Support for multiple external editors?

I, like many people, use more than one tool, sometimes on a single picture and sometimes "right tool for the right job." Aperture seems to only allow one tool to be set, when a drop-down with all of the established external editors would obviously be better. Have I missed something or is there no provision for this? It's a pain to have to choose a new e/e each time, defeats the purpose of having a hot button for it.

You can either:
Modify the 'Aperture Hot Folder' Automator application so that instead of importing any images dropped into the folder into Aperture, it opens them with PS. Then do
an 'Export Masters' to that folder.
Do a 'Reveal in Finder' against the master and then right-click the master and select 'Open with Photoshop'(or DXO, DPP, etc) which you should be able to achieve with a folder action (similar to above).
I use the first technique (to open RAWs in DPP to check Focus Points) but haven't implemented the second. I think it should work, but can't guarantee it.

  • Add choice of multiple external editors

    The 1.1 enhancements do make LR more usable, but please add more context menu slots (via Preferences) for multiple external editors.
    I frequently use two very different tools for localized image editing on TIFFs because they are radically different tools for solving different problems. To choose the un-preferenced editor, I have to first go to Preferences dialog, change the application selection, close the dialog, then launch the editor, then switch back the next time I want to use the first external editor.
    I doubt that I am the only Lightroom user with more than one non-Adobe editing tool (noise reducers, sharpening tools, re-sizing tools, etc.)
    I have no intention of using Photoshop; the fixed slot for Photoshop is wasted on me and probably many other users.

    From my comment in another topic:
    [Only allowing a single external editor] is an issue even when using Adobe products. I use Photoshop Elements as my editor and don't have CS3, and LR forces me to use the single "External Editor" spot for the Elements editor.
    I wish they'd recognize Elements as my primary external editor and let me call Neat Image (digital noise reducer) as my secondary editor directly from LR. As it stands, I have to open in Elements editor, then choose the Neat Image filter.
    I know I could specify NI as my external editor but I still need the Elements editor for touch-ups.
    Thanks to the Adobe Lightroom team for reading these feature requests and seriously considering them.

  • Feature request: Support for Multiple Libraries (like in iMovie)

    From the threads, I can tell this topic was raised by many for many years. I would like to propose support for multiple iPhoto libraries -- or more specifically, the ability to distribute media across different storage devices.
    There is a huge gap between my spacially limited MBP 250 GB SSD and my external 4 TB HDD. I am aware that I can juggle two separate libraries in iPhoto but it's just not practical and the moving of media between the libraries is not a simple drag and drop effort but involves exporting and importing with me having to clean up on one side or the other.
    iMovie has had support for several libraries for a long time presumably because the sheer size of media in the video realm gave the iMovie team little choice.
    I can't be the only one having this itch, right?

    Again, you need to clarify your terms
    Aperture can move master photos files around. With Aperture you can write additional metadata to the original file.
    You don't need multiple libraries to thematically arrange photos, though. A simple keywordign system will do that.
    So in Aperture I don't have to restart into different libraries?
    You can have all your photos in a sinble library with the master files stored off-disk easily. You can relocate them from disk to disk too. However, if you;re doing presentations that is probably not necessary if you generate good quality previews. I'd ask about these things on the Aperture forum for more.

  • Support for multiple libraries...?

    Hi, I have a question as how is the best way to manage y music libraries given my usage scenario.
    First let me set the context of what I have. I have over 35GB of ripped music, that resides in an external drive. Currently this music is available through my iTunes application, but it is NOT part of my lybrary (meaning I imported but did NOT copy it into the library). I do NOT want to have 35GB of music in my notebook's HD.
    My iTunes library is in my local HD (music folder). This is a small file that basically has the 'podcasts' and the 'artwork'.
    What do I want? I would love to keep all my music and videos on the external drive, and have my podcasts in my local HD. This way when I am on the road, I can update the podcasts, without having to carry with me all my music.
    This all works fine the way I have it now, except that every time I rip a new CD or buy music from the iTunes Store, they go to my local HD and not my external drive.
    Any ideas on how to work this out? I would love support for multiple libraries, but I don't thnks it's possible as far as I looked into it.
    Thanks SO much!

    This all works fine the way I have it now, except that every time I rip a new CD or buy music from the iTunes Store, they go to my local HD and not my external drive.
    Set the 'iTunes Music folder location' (Preferences>Advanced>General) to the music folder on your external.
    The next time you rip a CD or purchase music, it will be stored there.
    Note: the 'iTunes Music folder location' is not the folder where your music is, but the location where iTunes stores imported music (and added music when 'Copy files to.....' is checked)
    If you ran iTunes once with your external drive not attached/mounted, this location is reset to the internal drive.
    iTunes 7 has support for multiple libraries. Press and hold the Option-key on launching iTunes until a window pops up which asks you to choose a library or create a new one.
    Libra and iTunes Library Manager both work with iTunes 7 and older versions. They also save the preferences for every library you created.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 - support for NTFS external drive?

    Hi,
    Another "newbie" question here... we have just installed Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 on a Dell box and now we want to install some Template VM's that we downloaded. The problem is - they are on an external Hard Drive that is an NTFS drive.
    So - when we connect the drive it's detected ok - but we can't mount it as the NTFS filesystem support doesn't appear to be installed as standard?
    If it isn't - how/where do we get NTFS support into the Kernel?
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bren

    Hi Bren,
    unfortunately as far as I know native NTFS support is in RHEL/OEL 5.4. And since Oracle VM is based on OEL 5.3 there is no direct support for NTFS.
    However there is an "unofficial" and probably not supported possibility to install FUSE and get NTFS3g to get what you want:
    Point the yum update server to OVS 2.2.1 and OEL 5.3 (on which OVS is based) on public-yum.oracle.com:
    # vi /etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-el5.repo
    [el5_u3_base]
    name=Enterprise Linux $releasever U3 - $basearch - base
    baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/EnterpriseLinux/EL5/3/base/$basearch/
    gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-el5
    gpgcheck=1
    enabled=1
    [ovm22_2.2.1_base]
    name=OracleVM 2 - 2.2.1 - $basearch - base
    baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleVM/OVM2/2.2.1/base/$basearch/
    gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-el5
    gpgcheck=1
    enabled=1
    Then you are able to install gcc compiler, which is needed for FUSE:
    # yum install gcc
    Insert the OVS Server CD or use the OVS repository from public-yum to install the develop kernel:
    # yum install kernel-ovs-devel
    Download the required FUSE packages and NTFS3g:
    http://ntfs-3g.org
    http://fuse.sourceforge.net/
    # wget http://marush.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ntfs-3g-200944-el5i686.rpm
    # wget http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/fuse/fuse-2.7.4.tar.gz
    Install Fuse:
    # tar -xvzf fuse-2.7.4.tar.gz
    # cd fuse-2.7.4
    # ./configure
    # make
    # make install
    # modprobe fuse
    # cd ..
    Install NTFS3g:
    # rpm -Uvh ntfs-3g-200944-el5i686.rpm
    Then you should be able to mount the ntfs filesystem:
    # mkdir /ntfs
    # echo "/dev/sda3 /ntfs ntfs-3g defaults 0 0" >> /etc/fstab
    # mount -a
    Note however, that this probably is not supported.
    So mounting the drive on a windows computer and copying the files via. pscp might probably be the easier and supported way...

  • Support for Multiple Hierarchies defined for the same GL Segment

    Hi,
    In our eBS setup, we have multiple hierarchies defined for a GL Segment.
    OOTB, BI Apps 7.9.6.3 provides support for 10 Segments, and it's corresponding Hierarchies (1 Hierarchy for each Segment).
    My question here is whether OOTB BI Apps 7.9.6.3 supports Multiple Hierarchies for the same Segment?+
    Thanks,
    Ab

    no it is not supported OOTB as of today
    you need to customize ETL mappings and OBIEE metadata to include hierarchy identifiers from the EBS segment definitions.
    Then you have to consider that filtering a hierarchy identifier becomes mandatory during query execution to avoid aggregation of duplicated values.

  • Mailman v3 implementation of support for multiple domains

    Mailman has evolved to support listserve names for multiple domains (think VH for listserves). At what point can we see Apple roll this kind of management into the existing product? It would be fabulous to give VH clients the ability to have their own 'branded' listserve experience rather than one with our default domains
    Server Group -- please update Mailman when more pressing bug fixes are out of your way. Thank you!

    Alex,
    Thanks. I know that it can be done via the CLI, but once again we see where alterations done in the CLI will immediately require abandoning the SA as an admin tool. We're trying to encourage Apple to not create this paradox, or rather, to evolve the GUI admin toolset. I was recently at a Leopard Server tour seminar where the field engineer and I discussed this very feature. His comment to me was essentially 'many of the tools in the Server are based on open source projects, so you can simply download the latest update, compile it and configure it for the server ... but you won't be able to use the admin tools we provide." He's accurate, and if I was the only one admin'ing my machines, that might be a temporary solution to this particular small issue. But it immediately brings to mind the reflex question of 'so why did I buy Leopard server?
    This is a matter of Apple needing to provide sufficient resources to the Server group to grow the product. Whether that means some new hiring, or not pulling engineers off for other product lines, or a different management paradigm. We shouldn't purchase a server product that is touted as an enterprise-class solution when it may only have a bare framework for the offered toolsets. If growing the toolset to match what is already offered in the open source world (for that particular product) requires abandoning the server tools, then there's a bit of a vision problem with the Server product.
    Sorry, -- I didn't mean to get on a soap box. You and I are here to learn and help others. I know you aren't part of Apple any more than I am. I do hope Apple engineers are given some time to peruse this board and mine it for ideas, or gauge the effectiveness of their solutions based on the questions and solutions posed here.
    With Mailman 3 so far along in development (VH support was added in October), is Apple culling the very best from it for their user base (and adjusting the SA toolset accordingly)?

  • SCUP 2011 support for multiple SCUP console users

    Will Microsoft or does microsoft have a solution to allow for multiple users to upload catalogs and install and use the SCUP 2011 console on workstations? Will SCUP 2011 database support multiple users now or in the future and is it supported? thank you

    I cannot speak to what may lie in the future, but this is what we do to have multiple users in the console. We are just now starting to evaluate SCUP, and this works for a handful of users so far.
    Install WSUS admin console
    Install SCUP 2011
    Copy Scup2011.exe.config to
    c:\Program Files (x86)\System Center Updates Publisher 2011

  • Still no support for multiple users!!

    The only reason I recently updated to 5.0 is I was anxiously awaiting the addition of multi-user support to my Lenovo A10-70 tablet. I had bought it for my young daughter after she broke the screen on her Nexus. Well, without support for User Accounts, this tablet is useless to a parent. I cannot believe a large company like Lenovo does not offer this with its Android tablets!  Mark, Cleo, Serene, Lenovo admins - I hope you are reading this. I am also posting this on Amazon where I bought my tablet. Such a shame - great hardware but such poor software choices. P.S. Major issues with the new update to Android 5.0. WiFi does not stay connected. Many Google apps will not run, including Gmail!

    Multi-user support is not common in tablets - so far, the ONLY tablet I have found with solid multi-user support is the Galaxy Tab/Note 4 (and even it has issues if you mis-configure it).  (Why do I refer to the Tab/Note 4?  Yes - the Note 4 is a phablet, and is typically sold via providers AND has a taller resolution than the Tab 4; those are, in fact, the ONLY differences between the Tab 4 and Note 4.  They have common features otherwise, and even their updates are released simultaneously.)  Lenovo even did the same thing with the A-series - compare their phablet models (G, GV, and H) with their wireless-only F models - you'll find so many commonalities it's not funny.  It's the phablets that are getting all the update love (especially when it comes to Lollipop); tablets (F subseries), not so much.Also, phablets are huge in Asia and India (look at sales of the G, GV, and H - the forums HERE are also rather obvious in those reporting successful updates - they are all from Asia or India); Lenovo doesn't push phablets in Europe or North America.  (I have no idea whether it is provider resistance or not.)  If you want solid multi-user support as a parent, look to Samsung (simply because they actually implemented it properly, which most tablet OEMs aren't going to be bothered with - it's not a knock specifically on Lenovo, because it's not specifically a Lenovo issue). On the Lollipop update issue; how many of us are still soldiering on with the same amount of storage that our tablets came with?  (I'm referring mainly to us F-subseries folks.)  The thing about the F subseries is that they all have small - if not downright miniscule - amounts of usable eMMC storage; out of the 8GB of eMMC storage the device has, only half that - 4GB - is usable from the start.  And every app you install, and assorted things that go along with it, eats into that.  Look at the size of the UPDATES that are being reported; S000023 alone is nearly 200MB.  The big combo updates - and if you're coming merely from S000020, which is the North American starting place for the F - you're talking nearly a gigabyte just to get to S000027 - do you have that much usable storage?  We may well have to bite the bullet and install medium or large (16GB/32GB) microSD cards in our tablets just because of the update-size issue.  (It's not like 16GB microSD cards are all that expensive, even retail - I see them at the local Best Buy for - at worst - $15 for SanDIsk Ultra - that's the high end brand of microSD card.)  We may be getting those "you have the latest version" due to available-space constraints - I've seen it happen on space-coinstrained WINDOWS PCs often enough.

  • Supposed support for Multiple Libraries in iTunes 7

    Come on Apple, your website says iTunes 7 supports multiple libraries in multiple locations, yet there is no way to enable a second library or create additional libraries through iTunes. Is this just hype about the tedious manual workaround of not having iTunes copy everything to one location? When will we get true multiple libraries? This is sorely missing functionality for anyone with a harddrive smaller than 250GB.
    Quoted from http://www.apple.com/itunes/overview/
    "Multiple Libraries
    Build your collection over multiple libraries, and keep them on different hard drives to save space."

    I think there are a large number of us who are in the "for some reason" category: we want to have our libraries split across multiple HD's.
    Here's my exact scenario:
    I have a small portion of my library stored locally on my PowerBook for when I am on the road (~30GB). I have the bulk of my music collection stored on an external drive at home (~160GB). I have another set of tracks that are works in progress that my band is in the process of writing/recording, stored on a 2nd external drive at our studio (~10GB). I want to be able to plug in any of the external drives, and have access to that content whenever I am at home or at the studio, without having to change the local library stored on my PowerBook.
    Consolidating the library does not help at all in this scenario - not only does the complete library not fit on my PB's hard drive, but I also don't want the reverse, which is to consolidate to one external drive which I'd then have to carry around everywhere. iTunes should be smart enough to recognize different library files concurrently, and store the import/organize settings per library. I guess that's too much to ask...

  • How Can I Setup Multiple External Editors In iPhoto'09? (8.12)

    My daughter has cortical visual impairment and we are trying to modify photos so that she can get more out of them.  Just about everything we need to do can be done in one program like photoshop but it can be tedious and if you know anything about caring for a disabled child then you know that we simply don't have enough time and when we do have a few minutes we're exhausted.
    Our daughter is 11 now and we are really excited about improvements we are seeing in her sight and demonstrated understanding of her environment, we want to build on this.
    Currently we make photo cues for communication (they all need black backgrounds), line art of everyday obects so she can choose correct colours and then colour them, and we want to start emphasizing objects in some photos by reducing or eliminating surrounding colour.
    If you think you would like to volunteer to do any of this editing for us you can visit her (outdated) website for more some more info and an email link:
    Creative Independence For Celeste Society
    When we want to edit photos I would like to start from iPhoto and choose to edit from Photoshop, iSplash, linesmART, etc.
    Currently I right click and then drag the image file onto the other program icon (or the open file dialog of the other program) but when we do it this way the photo is not automatically updated in iPhoto, it needs to be imported.
    We would really like to keep using iPhoto to manage our files.  I joke that my wife and technology are not freinds, but really its not her fault; we have too much going on to remember a bunch of steps to complete a process and a different but similar bunch of steps for a different process, we need a simple one-click solution.  Maybe there is a plug-in I can install?
    I'm reluctant to try seting up an applescript/automator/workflow solution myself because I've tried those in the past and it just seems like Apple has more good intentions than follow through in that department, other users always seem to find a way to break them.

    As someone who parents a profoundly disabled daughter (see: http://www.rettsyndrome.ie) who just turned 12, you have all my sympathy. That said, there is no way to set up multiple editors in iPhoto. It can only use one at a time.

  • Macbook Pro support for two external displays

    I keep seeing articles since yesterday stating that the new MBP retina display supports 3 external monitors and the new Macbook Air supports two (through just one ThB port?) but how come no one says anything about the new regular MBP's support? If the Air supports two isn't the regular MBP also supposed to be able to work with two external monitors?

    USB video has performance limitations, but it's fine for stuff that doesn't involve fast-action video.
    ah yes, sorry, the new USB 3 now supports speeds up to 5 GB/sec so it may become suitable for AV use. Actually, only ThunderBolt (and HDMI) has higher speed than the USB 3 port.
    but I just found this page here at the Apple support, which states that the Air and Pro both support 2 displays and the retina MBP one more through the HDMI port, so I guess now it's official
