Support for viewing on a Mac - useful?

I've had about a dozen requests for a Mac version of my book in the week since it went live. I don't know how useful this might be for others, but it seems like it would be pretty easy for Apple to implement. I'll be making a feature request, but I'm curious if other people think this could be useful and expand the market a bit.

I believe this is expressly forbidden by the terms of service,  is it not?
On the contrary, your contract says that you are free to deliver your content in other means.
if the work is provided for free (at no charge), you may distribute it by any means;

multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

    but get:

FYI The misc zip files (jdk, imq, ant etc ) are unexpanded
    Any advice most welcome!
    Tim

Yes, I got this too when I tried that. I've analyzed the source for appserv.class. What Sun did was sneak in lots of classes into the tail end of the file and this class loads from itself. It's a ClassLoader. I don't see why they did this when they could have used a .jar. To look at debugging output, you can put the following command line flags on: -Dwizard.debug=true -Dwizard.debugClassLoading=true. Kind of interesting actually. To chase this further, one could hack the decompiled source to spit out the class files as it loads them so that they could be decompiled further, especially looking at the Linux implementation. Hopefully it could be stubbed out to work satisfactory enough.
What I've done to get the J2EE.jar is rummage through the "packages" directory. I found both SUNWascmn.zip and SUNWasu.zip to have useful libraries. I also observed the libraries end in .jar.pack. The PackageFormat.jar file contains 2 classes, one for packing and one for unpacking. Check out the class sun.tools.pack.Unpack. It'll display usage. I ran this against some jar.pack's of interest to me, notable j2ee.jar.pack of course and it decompressed it. By the way, the pack format is JSR 200 http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=200 which is supposedly in Java 1.5.
    That was fun :-)
But yeah... it really pisses me off that Sun doesn't seem to acknowledge Mac OS X as a Java platform for the language they developed to be cross platform. What irony!

  • What's the best App for cleaning/speeding up Mac using Lion?

Can anyone recommend an App for cleaning/speeding up my iMac and Macbook Pro, both of which use Lion?
Hard drive space is not really the issue, but I can't help feeling that my iMac is not as nippy as it used to be - my basic requirements are:
    1) Easy to use. I'm a competent user, but no guru.
    2) Will confirm details of what is is deleting, cleaning before it does it.
    3) Is reliable and won't crash or bugger-up my system.
    4) Actually works - as I said, don't really need to reclaim storage, but would like to speed up my mac
    5) Doesn't cost the earth.
You thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Cheers all,
    Simon.

Do the below and keep your boot drive below 50% filled and not more that 80%, that's about all you can do without a full reinstall of the OS.
    12: OnyX cache cleaning
Category: OS X, application and User account software related
Description: Gives OS X, application and user account caches a enema, lets then rebuild again new, resolves strange and unknown issues based on cache files being corrupted .
Only cache files are removed, not users data, files, programs or OS X. Some settings will be set back to normal in Finder and other locations. Spotlight will rebuild a new database.
Problems possibly resolved: Varied: Flash install issues, Dock/Finder/File issues, "ghost files", performance and privacy related
    Instructions:
Apple doesn't supply a easy method for the user to self clean the caches, thus we have to turn to third party software.
Use the free OnyX matching your OS X version and run all the initial checks, stop if any give a warning, you have a bigger problem. See #4
Run though all the Maintenance and Cleaning aspects (except don't delete the log files) and reboot at the end (must)
You must be through running all the maintenance and cleaning aspects as this is a "catch all" method and any number of corrupted caches may be responsible for your issues.  You need to REBOOT at the end of using OnyX. Canceling the in-between reboot requests is fine.
Read Step #13 and  perform the Verify > Preferences before rebooting at the end of using OnyX.

  • Lack of support for Google Chrome in forced-use email app

If this isn't resolved, I will cancel all Verizon services.  Am seeing a consistent decline in VZ services:
    1. ghosting and massive digital artifacts in HD programming, INCLUDING "Premium" channels
    2. HD set top box quality is very poor
    3. High pricing
    4. VZ has terminated use of preferred browser (Chrome, which is SECURE and much faster than any others) in new forced-use email client.
As expected, VZ is acting once again as if they were "the phone company".
    Not true.
Expect this post to be taken down quickly.

Going to side with Justin here as well (and those of us who have been here for a while know, like ourselves, that he isn't a Verizon employee)  ... the issues being described are indicative of a local inside wiring problem (poor cabling, loose connections, unterminated/noise introducing cable outlets, etc.).   Since the TV is indicating problems, it's likely also interfering with the MoCA signal to the modem which would result in internet issues as well.
I can second my experience with Chrome as well ... it works just fine with Verizon webmail.  Just tried it again to be sure.
If you are encountering problems, it would be helpful if you could be more specific.  I suspect the you have an anti-virus / malware product that is probably set to block certain kinds of traffic (like Javascript, etc.) that is potentially interfering.   The solution in such cases is to whitelist the Verizon site as a known location -- how to do that however is a function of your anti-virus/anti-malware product.
As for cost, I've been a customer for several years now.  My rate went up by $10 once in that time and I ended up rebundling my STB's and essentially negating that increase.  Compared to my cable provider -- who I continue to evaluate every year for cost/speed (while I like FiOS, I believe in fair competition and the best price / speed will always win my business) -- they are still the best deal for my money (don't get me wrong, cheaper or more bundle optons would be better!).  YMMV.

  • Client support for Intel Mac

Does anybody know if and when there will be support for MacOs on Intel Macs for the client libraries?

Unfortunately not many people who use Oracle also use Macs (let's face it, Macs are a small percentage of desktop usage in most business spheres). Combine this with the fact that the Intel Mac is a recent innovation and so currently represents a sliver of Mac usage compared to PowerPC, and you'll see that Oracle clients on Intel Macs must be quite low on the priority scale for porting.
I agree that this is frustrating for you and your clients, but Oracle have to make hard commercial decisions. One of those decisions is to favour the mainstream OS flavours over the niche ones. They never supported Macs until Apple switched to a Unix-based OS, because the previous OS would have been too much work for too lsmall a market segment. They never supported BeOS either, for precisely the same reason.
I guess they will eventually port the Oracle clients to Intel Macs, but not just yet. Still,Any word on MacIntel support? you're not alone.

  • STICK_CACHE_SIZE_EXCEEDED: Sticky cache can't be supported for 9th AP

    Hi,
it's possible to somehow increase the sticky cache? 9 APs is not enough.
    STICK_CACHE_SIZE_EXCEEDED: Sticky cache can't be supported for 9th AP.Client MAC 44:2b:03:55:f4:c0.
    Thanks
    K.

The controller appears to be configured with sticky key caching (SKC).
You can verify if a WLAN is configured for SKC with: show wlan wlan_id
With sticky key caching, the client receives and stores a different PMKID for every AP it associates with. The APs also maintain a database of the PMKID issued to the client.
In SKC, the client stores each Pairwise Master Key ID (PMKID) against a Pairwise Master Key Security Association (PMKSA). When a client finds an AP for which it has the PMKSA, it sends the PMKID in the association request to the AP. If the PMKSA is alive in the AP, the AP provides support for fast roaming. In SKC, full authentication is done on each new AP to which the client associates and the client must keep the PMKSA associated with all APs. For SKC, PMKSA is a per AP cache that the client stores and PMKSA is pre-calculated based on the BSSID of the new AP.
With sticky key caching the end device after completing full 802.1x authentication caches the PMKID for that AP. When it roams to the next AP say AP2 it has to complete re-authentication again. It caches the PMKID for this as well. Now when it roams back to the first AP it gives the PMKID in the re-association request. The controller uses this and realizes that the client is authenticated and just goes ahead with the four way handshake. So the client HAS TO authenticate to each new AP that it goes to.
Now this works fine in a small setup due to a limitation on the controller. The controller can cache upto 8 PMKID'S for each client. So the client can roam to 8 AP's again and again without requiring 802.1x authentication. However if it goes to a ninth AP this will required re-authentication (even if the client has previously roamed to this AP) as the controller will not have the necessary PMKID.

  • Web Service Support for WebLogic

Add Support for Web Services to WebLogic using IONA's XMLBus
For anyone interested in Web services, IONA has just released a free
technology preview of iPortal XMLBus, with support for BEA WebLogic 6.0
patch 1. You can download it today from www.xmlbus.com, a Web site entirely
    dedicated to Web services.
The iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview enables Java Developers to turn
existing EJBs and Java Applications into Web services. XMLBus is 100% pure
Java and installs seamlessly on top of the
WebLogic. It implements the W3C v1.1 draft specifications of SOAP and WSDL.
SOAP is the communication protocol used by Web services to traverse over
HTTP, SNMP, and FTP. WSDL has become the standard for describing Web service
    interfaces in XML.
XMLBus automates the process of turning Java classes into Web services,
ensuring that Java developers do not need to learn a whole new programming
language to turn existing applications into Web services.
Wizards guide the developer through the identification of interfaces and
methods the developer wants to become a Web service. The wizard deploys a
SOAP Listener and a WSDL interface for that Java Class, as well as Java
client proxy applications. The client proxy can easily be incorporated into
any Java Application to invoke the corresponding methods described in the
    WSDL.

This is fixed now. Someone had defined a Servlet for the web service in web.xml that was preventing the EJB container to kick in.

  • Has support for the iTunes Store been discontinued for G3s?

Both my sisters have a G3 iBook on which they run iTunes 8 (they can't d/l any newer version as it won't run on a G3). Just recently they have been unable to access the iTunes Store, all they get is a message inviting them to d/l iTunes 10. Has support for iTunes 8 / G3 Macs been discontinued? If so, what do my sisters do about their credit which they both have on the Store?

you're saying that I will have to buy their iTunes purchases for them (I will need their logins and passwords of course)
    You or someone, yes.
and then dump the tracks onto a memory stick?
    Correct.
That won't count as an 'extra authorised computer' for my account, will it?
Not for your iTunes Store account, no.
It will just mean that my computer becomes an extra authorised machine for their accounts?
    Correct.
But, what if I never choose to play their purchases - then there will be no extra machine needs authorising...?
Doesn't matter whether or not you play the purchases. Unless things have changed, your system will be authorized automatically when you purchase through their iTunes Store accounts. But since any given iTunes Store accounts can have up to five computers authorized, it shouldn't cause a problem.
    Regards.

  • No Raw support for Olympus e620

Cant believe aperture 3 does not have raw support for the Olympus E620. I am nearly ready to upgrade. Can Apple get there act together on this.

Harass the company - go to
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    select Aperture
and request support for the cameras that you use and want to be supported
Tell them you will have to migrate to LightRoom if they do not support the camera.
Now that Apple have moved to a new version of the Raw converter program they have little excuse for not adding these cameras.
