Support for Windows Server 2012R2 Hyper-V

Windows Server 2012 R2 is officially available from last week. What are the plans for 2012R2 Hyper-V Support on UCS platform /B200M3 servers/? Also Nexus1000V for SCVMM 2012R2?

Hi,
We have Windows Server 2012 R2 (x64) configured as Hyper-V Servers running a Cisco UCS. We use Cisco UCS B200 M3 Blade Servers with a VIC 1240 (including a Port Expander). It works just fine. I have also succesfully tested VM-FEX and SR-IOV.
I must add that there are only 2012 drivers, although they work properly. In case you have a FlexPod and use iSCSI. NetApp does not have a DSM driver (MPIO) to support 2012 R2 yet, so you have to use the Microsoft DSM driver.
I am also waiting for Cisco and NetApp to release updated drivers that officially support Windows Server 2012 R2.
I hope this information is usefull to you. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Microsoft support for Windows Server 2008 R2 on vSphere 5.5

    Hi, everybody.
I'm checking if Microsoft will provide support for Windows Server 2008 R2 running on a VM on vSphere 5.5 Update 2. So far what I've found at
    http://windowsservercatalog.com is:
Filtering vendor VMware and Windows Server 2008 R2, it shows vSphere up to version 5.0 update 1
    http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/results.aspx?&chtext=&cstext=&csttext=&chbtext=&bCatID=1521&cpID=2274&avc=34&ava=0&avq=0&OR=1&PGS=25&ready=0
    http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/item.aspx?idItem=c92e5cbd-9690-b62a-2ace-843390ac3ea4&bCatID=1521
Filtering vendor VMware it shows vSphere 5.5 update 2, but details only Windows Server 2012, not Windows Server 2008 R2.
    http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/results.aspx?&chtext=&cstext=&csttext=&chbtext=&bCatID=1521&cpID=2274&avc=0&ava=0&avq=0&OR=1&PGS=25&ready=0&PG=2
    http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/item.aspx?idItem=ef39c5b2-2f5b-5b73-08e2-c07fecdadcff&bCatID=1521
Does that mean Microsoft doesn't support Windows 2008 R2 on vSphere 5.5 update 2?
I'm aware Windows Server 2008 R2 lifecycle is close to EOL, but customer requires this specific version for application compatibility.
    Thanks

    Hi mdgrkb,
Products that have passed the SVVP requirements for Windows Server 2012 R2 are considered supported on Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and
Windows Server 2003 SP2 and later Service Packs, both x86 and x64.
Look this website the top left additional information:

  • Multi-Hypervisior Manager support for Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I am attempting to connect to a Windows Server 2012 R2  Hyper-V and am getting the following error message.
"Unable to Connect to host hyper01"
I have tested and can connect to a Windows Server 2012 without issue.  Checking the documentation for support and whilst Windows Server 2012 is not supported I wanted to ensure I wasn't making an error.
If it is indeed not supported at this moment, is there a viable alternative?
    Many Thanks
    Tristan

    Hi,
Windows 2012  R2 is not supported by MHM 1.x. Please take a look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-multi-hypervisor-manager-11-guide.pdf, page 9, "vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager Software Requirements" section.
For you convenience I'm pasting the list of supported third-party hypervisors:

  • PCNS support for Windows Server 2012 R2

I'm configuring PCNS for a multiple connected AD's.
PCNS is working fine on all AD's, but one.
The failing AD has Windows 2012R2 DC's.
I cannot find an official Microsoft statement on the support for Windows 2012R2.
The PCNS release notes don't mention Windows 2012R2 as supported.
    If tested the following:
    - connection to DC's are ok
    - Required ports are available
    - DNS Service Records lookup is ok
    - TargetAD permissions for FIM AD MA Service account are ok.
    It keeps throwing Kerberos errors:

  • How many licence for Windows Server 2012R2 in hyper-v cluster base on free Hyper-V Server 2012R2

    Hi
I build cluster consist 4 nodes (2 procesors, 4 core per procesor=8 virtual processors per node). I installed free Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on each node and created cluster.
I've got one Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. How many VMs (with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standrard as OS) can I run on this cluster using this DVD? 1, 2 or none?
    Thank you in advance
    Tomasz
    Kind Regards Tomasz

    The detail here is this:
You are asking about the 'virtual instance granting' license.
    - this only applies if Windows Server is installed on the bare metal with the Hyper-V Role added. (regardless of the edition)
    - this only applies to licensing, it does not limit the number of VMs that you can run.
    - If there is a cluster, all nodes should be the same edition to remove any licensing ambiguity.
This is strictly OS licensing for the VMs and has absolutely nothing to do with how many VMs you can run:
Most likely your hardware will run out of physical resources before you reach the maximums outlined here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj680093.aspx
If you have a cluster - there can be a maximum of 8,000 running VMs
If you have individual Hyper-V Servers there can be a maximum of 1,024 running VMs
Do the math - you would need a minimum of ~8 cluster nodes to touch that 8,000 number.  But as you add nodes, you don't add HA VM capacity.  But you can run a combination of HA and non-HA VMs up to a the maximum of 1,024 running VMs per node.
In other words, mix and match if you want to push the boundary.

  • Adobe Air 3.6 - Support for Windows Server 2008 R2?

    Hello all,
Adobe lists "Windows Server 2008" in the list of supported operating systems.
We tested our application on a Win 2008 R2 terminal server and could'nt find any issues so far. Is there a reason why Adobe does not list "Windows Server 2008 R2" (64 Bit) in the supported platforms list?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Antivirus for windows server (2012R2)

I have Symantec Endpoint Protection they have a server package and a client package it works very well for us here!

    Howdy,
So, I am learning a little late that it is not a good thing to install an AV on a server that was designed for a workstation, as it deeply affects performance due to on-access scanning, and other things.
There are several solutions that boast about good server performance, blah blah blah, but I was wondering what you fine people have experienced in the real world.
I am looking for something I can fine-tune and change settings like only scan on write, etc.  So far Kaspersky is looking nice, but again, I was wondering what you all are using and how you like it.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Server 2012R2 Hyper-V Are the VDI machines of a collection always running

    Hello
I got a Windows Server 2012r2 Hyper-V Cluster to run Windows 8.1 Guests on.
If I create the collection with 10 Guests, are these machines always running?
Or can I configure that only two machines are running and always when a user is connecting to a running  guest, one more guest is started up to be ready for the next user?
    Thanks for your answer,
    Juerg

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
In respect to your comment, I can say that you have Hyper-v cluster to run windows machine. As per my knowledge, cluster won’t shut down or power off. If we use PS to shut down our VDI, we need ask the helpdesk to startup our VDI manually, so the VM in VDI
must always running. As all know, there are many servers are running under single cluster, so if one fail, all the application will up on others servers, but the application can close by its admin, cluster cannot control this operation.
Based on my knowledge, for your other comment “one more guest is started up to be ready for the next user?” VDI admin need start up this VDI manually and there is no any option or feature which can ready the VM to be used by other users.
    Hope it helps to understand!
    Thanks.

  • Unable to install Network Adapter Driver for Windows Server 2012

    Hi,

  • Adobe Reader Enterprise for Windows Server 2012 (R2)

    Hi,
I want to silently install the latest version of Adobe Reader on a Windows Server 2012 server. When I want to download the offline installer at http://get.adobe.com/nl/reader/enterprise/ I do not see Windows Server 2012 (and/or R2) listed. Is the offline installer supported for Windows Server 2012 and/or Windows Server 2012 R2?
How can I get this to work?
    Thanks in advance.

The Technical Specifications are here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html
It doesn't mention Windows Server 2012.
If this is for Citrix or WTS you should get a distribution agreement and then also get the Distribution version of Adobe Reader.

  • Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking and Hyper-V.

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE
Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.
    It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.
I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below
    examples.
New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the
HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option.
Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.
Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Paul Edwards

    Hi P.J.E,
    >>I have teams so a bit confused as to the adapter bindings and if the teams need to be added or just the vEthernet Nics?.
    Nic 1,2
    HostVMSwitchTeam
    Nic 3,4,5
             HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    >>The adapter Binding settings are:
    HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    V-Curric
    Nic 3
    Nic 4
    Nic 5
    V-Livemigration
    HostVMSwitch
    Nic 1
    Nic 2
    V-iSCSI
    V-HeartBeat
Based on my understanding of the description , "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
HostVMSwitch " are teamed NIC .
You can think of them as two physical NICs (do not use NIC 1,2,3,4,5 any more , there are just two NICs "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
    HostVMSwitch").
    V-Curric,
    V-Livemigration , V-iSCSI ,
V-HeartBeat are just VNICs of host  (you can change their name then check if the virtual switch name will be changed )

  • What is posted availability specification for Windows server 2012? 2012R2?

I am trying to put together a high availability solution and I want to know what the availability 'claim' of the individual components would be. What is the availability specification for Windows server 2012 and Windows Server 2012R2?(for example 99.9%
availability for the O/S itself). This would be in a non clustered or Load Balanced state. Just a single server running the O/S.

    Hi,
SLA requirements determine how components such as storage, clustering, and backup and recovery factor into your organization. The term high availability is meaningless until you define how to measure it. IT shops measure high availability as the percentage of
time that systems are available, but the provider and consumer of high-availability services must agree on what constitutes availability and how the time is measured.

  • DPM Storage Pool on Windows Server 2012R2 iSCSI target Storage Spaces - supported?

    Hi,
for migration purpose we need more space for one of our DPM 2012R2 Servers.
And we cannot buy more space for our NetAPPs..
So our idea was to use an Windows Server 2012R2 as an iSCSI target and use Storage Spaces.
I remember something that using an iSCSI target on Windows 2008 was not supported.
Is this configuration supported when usinf DPM 2012R2 on Win 2012R2 and the target is Win2012R2 aswell?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    This talks about
Virtual DPM servers, but the same is true for Physical DPM servers when it comes to using .VHD(x) files for DPM storage pool.
Virtual DPM installations do not support the following:
    Windows 2012 Storage Spaces.
Virtual hard drives built on top of storage spaces.
Local or remote hosting of VHDX files on Windows 2012 storage spaces.
Enabling Disk Dedupe on volumes hosting virtual hard drives.
Using synthetic FC to connect to tape drives.
Windows 2012 iSCSI targets (which use virtual hard drives) as a DPM storage pool.
NTFS compression for volumes hosting VHD files used in the DPM storage pool.
Bitlocker on volumes hosting VHD files used for the storage pool.
A native 4K sector size of physical disks for VHDX files in the DPM storage pool.
Virtual hard drives hosted on Windows 2008 servers.

  • CR for vs2008 not connecting on Windows Server 2012R2

I have an application running on Windows Server 2008R2 which I urgently need to mirror on Windows Server 2012R2.
However, my crystal reports basic runtime for vs2008  version 10.5.1.0
and crystal reports basic runtime for vs2008(64) version 10.5.0.0  brings up the report but doesn't seem to connect to the
database  (it seems to be pulling in a null dataset)
What am I doing wrong?  [I tried opening all incoming ports, etc, etc]
    This is the web.config line:
    <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>
    [changing this crashes the application]

    Hi,
CR for VS 2008 does not support Windows Server 2012.
    See this article: http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?original_fqdn=wiki.sdn.sap.com&pageId=56787567
Currently there is only one version of CR which supports WS 2012, SAP Crystal Reports for Microsoft Visual Studio.
    http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824
You would need to upgrade to VS 2010 or VS 2012 and SAP Crystal Reports for Microsoft Visual Studio.

  • BDB support for Windows Vista, WIndows 7 and Windows Server?

    Hello,
I examine to use BDB on Windows, and I have a question.
    There's a description about supported OSs on the BDB reference guide as follows;
    Where does Berkeley DB run?
The Berkeley DB distribution includes support for Windows/95, Windows/98, Windows/NT, Windows/2000 and Windows/XP, via the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and .NET development environments.
Does BDB distribution supports for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003?
And it will support Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7?
I believe that BDB does not depend on specific function of Windows, thus there's no problem to support them...
    Regards,
    Akira

Yes, we have a plan about BDB support for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server. Once we are ready, we'll let you know here.
    Hi Vit,
For Berkeley DB XML questions, please go to the Berkeley DB XML forum at: Berkeley DB XML
By the way, I learnt there's a XP-compatible mode in Windows 7. You may want to try DB-XML with that.
