Support of RAF-files - Fujifilm FinePic S5000 camera

Hello
I had got some images from one that have a Fujifilm FinePic S5000 camera. If I imports the RAF-files (Fujifilm RAW-format) into Capture but it seems that Capture doesn't support RAF-files. Will Capture support RAF-files in the future?
I have tried to convert the RAF-files to DNG-fles by using Adobe DNG converter but the result is the same. I believed that Adobe DNG converter could convert all known RAW-format to DNG also RAF-files from a Fujifilm FinePic S5000 camera.

Per an interview with a spokeswoman from Fuji, they have indeed provided Apple (and Adobe as well) all the needed technical information in order to support the RAW files (i.e. algorithmic information created by Fuji for the non-standar filter array, etc etc). Please don't spread any more misinformation about it, it's already been flamed to death on all the online camera forums. You can still choose to 'blame' whomever you wish about why it's still not supported by Apple, but you can no longer reasonably assert that Fuji hasn't done their part by providing them what they need. Nondisclosure agreements were signed as well.
Having said that, I find it ridiculous at this point that it's not supported, for several reasons, some being the seemingly similar Fuji users who also use Aperture as well as the opportunity here for Apple to take some market from Adobe (who as of yet are not producing very great output files for Fuji X-trans). Apple was/has been at a disadvantage to Adobe for a long while now, and being an outsider, I presumed Apple would want to take advantage of this (and any similar) opportunity to grab some share from Adobe. I was well wrong, and it seems that other lesser-known-used companies are now doing just that.
Well good on them. I for one will be looking at any/all (new)comers and will certainly be going with the best of those. Sorry Apple, you lost another one. There was a real competition, for me, btwn Aperture and LR4 up till this point. You'd have to pull a rabbit out of your hat to keep my Aperture biz.

  • CS5 won't open RAF files from FinePix HS10 & Camera Raw 6.3- Is there something I'm missing??

    Ok-
I've bought CS5 Extended and then updated it (including the Camera Raw 6.3 update).
I am using a MacBook Pro (and an iMac also).
When I try to open the RAF file I get the message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Yet the release notes for Camer Raw say that it will open FinePix HS10 files...
So I then decided to try a manual install of Camera Raw- I get the same message.
I have checked with other HS10 users and their PS does open them.
Is there something obvious that I am missing- or is there a problem with the camera raw or the photoshop cs5??
    Hope someone can help!!

I didn't realise that the Camera Raw won't work in 64bit mode. Converting to 32bit enabled the files to be opened.
Actually, that's wrong. Camera Raw 6.3 WILL run as a 64-bit plug-in when hosted by Photoshop CS5 if CS5 is running as a 64-bit app. It'll run as a 32-bit plug-in when hosted by Bridge or Photoshop CS5 set to run as 32-bit.
So, there's something else going on here....
How are you trying to open the raw files? From within Bridge or the Finder? How did you update Camera Raw to version 6.3? From the updater? Is ACR 6.3 in the correct install location? main Library (not the User but root), Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin
Can you open raw images from within Bridge? Have you tried to view raw files with Bridge before you updated Camera Raw? Have you trashed the cache foe the folder? In Bridge under Tools/Cache/Purge Cache

  • When will Aperture have support for RAF files from the new Fuji XPro-1?

How long does it normally take to get the RAW file format updated? Fuji say they sent the file details to Apple many weeks ago. This is a camera being given fantastic reviews in all professional magazines worldwide - but I'm stuck with an Aperture folder full of "unsupported image format" files.
Really annoying as I use the full suite of Nik plug-ins so I can't do anything with these files until Aperture is updated.

  • Opening raw file (.raf) from Fujifilm x100s with Elements 10

    Hi -
I am unable to open .raf files created by my new Fujifilm x100s camera. I have PSE 10. According to Help --> Updates, I have the most current versions of everything installed. My ACR Version is 6.7.0.339.
I see references tro Adobe Camera Raw version 7 but it looks like that version is not compatible with PSE10, only PSE11.
Sticking with PSE 10, what is the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw that I can use and that will support opening .raf files from the Fuji x100s? I'm afraid to attempt installation of ACR 7 without assurancesd that it will work with PSE10.
    Thank you for your help,
    Frank

Hi Frank, you need camera Raw 7.4 which is only available for PSE11. Consider upgrading or wait for PSE12 to be launched soon. If you regularly shoot raw try Lightroom with PSE10 as your external editor.
Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in PSE10 (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.1
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Photoshop Elements 9 doesn't accept raw files (Raf files) from my camera Fi X20. What's the solution ?

I made all the available updates for Photoshop Elements 9.
Cuurently, the available Camera Raw Version is 6.5.0.216 and this version doesn't support the RAF files from Fuji X20
I would like to find a solution without changing the version of Photoshop Elements ?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Convert your RAF files to the Adobe raw format DNG. After you install the app, it’s possible to convert a whole folder of RAF files with one click.
    Windows download (exe):

  • DNG Converter Doesn't Recognize RAF Files

I work in RAW with a Fujifilm X-E1, and Photoshop CS3. Since I got the camera almost a year ago, I have been successfully able to convert RAF files to DNG files using the Adobe DNG Converter so that I can use the files with CS3 - until I downloaded the latest version of the firmware for the X-E1.   Now DNG does not see the RAF files, so I can't convert them.   When I point DNG Converter to the folder with the RAF files downloaded from the camera, Converter says "No items match your search," but the files are definitely there.   I am using the latest version of DNG Converter (8.2).   What is wrong?

Actually I found the problem in an earlier post.   If I point DNG Converter to the correct folder, it will convert the files in the folder even though it doesn't show the individual file names on the screen.  Silly programming, but that's how DNG works now, I guess.

  • Fujifilm X- t1 camera

Does Photoshop Elements 12 support Raw for the Fujifilm X-t1 camera

it should but you can always download a full trial version of pse12 and try it out.  you also get instaNt updates for any new cameras that might have been released recently.  To get updates for the product, you need to go to:
    Help >> Updates
PSE12 is the latest version and it gets updates every 6 to 8 weeks or there about.
    Good luck.

  • Fujifilm X20 - RAW (.RAF) Files support

I have just purchased a Fujifilm X20 camera and was surprised to find that RAW (.RAF) files taken by it are not supported by Apple Aperture. Seems that X10 users are still waiting for this to happen as well. This is hugely disappointing as the supplied Fuji software is just sooooo PC. Does anyone have any idea at all when such support will be forthcoming? Surely if Adobe can issue the needed updates to camera RAW (not yet for the brand new X20) then Apple should be able to do likewise. Aperture is a Pro application and should receive pro support.

    RJ,
I am still testing what my favorite presets are. So, any advice might be ill advice. Jsut try a few shots and play with highlights, shadows, lights, darks, noise reduction, clarity, vibrance, and color saturation. For most of my shots so far, I use: NR (Lum) set to 10, lights +15, darks -15 (resulting in a modest S-curve). One reason is that I prefer detail instead of lack-of-noise. NR will increase when ISO rises. Highlights and shadows to your liking. Same for color-specific saturation. Otherwise LR default (incl sharpening en color NR.
I hardly do anything with WB because it is usually OK.
The basic message is: be conservative in your PP!
One thing to keep in mind: shooting ETTR is recommended. Don't use DR400, DR200 at the most.
Out of curiosity: Will you be using Aperture as library for the jpegs resulting from the LR conversion? Have you considered using LR for all your X20 photos and Aperture for your dSLR?

  • .raf files from a Fujifilm XE-2

Does PSE 12 support .raf files from a Fujifilm XE-2? These are raw.

You need the most recent ACR 8.3 plug-in update.  Do Help / Updates in PSE Editor.

  • Lightroom 4 on a MAC and Fujifilm X-Pro1 - can't read the RAF files

When I open the import dialogue the thumbnails are greyed out with "preview unavailable for this file".  I continue with the import, which fails, and the message that comes up is a list of the files and "The files are form a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (10).
My Lightroom 4 is an upgrade from Lightroom 3 (I upgraded because I thought the issue was with the versio of lightroom I was running).
Is anyone else having issues with RAF file support?

Wow.  Not the answer I was hoping for but at least i know know I have to return this camera.  I am a little surprised that Fujifil would ship a camera when the raw format can't be utilized.  Thank you for poiting me in the right direction Dorin.

  • How do I import Fujifilm X T ! RAF files into Lightroom?

    Fujifilm XT1

This is crazy. Why haven't Adobe addressed the camera RAW update in an update for LR 4 users? I'm really starting to hate Adobe as a company these days. Forcing users to update to version 5 when v4 is perfectly good, just so people will subscribe to the bs CC services is outrageous! It seems that one is either heavily discouraged from downloading a stand alone version of LR 5 on the Adobe site, or it's just not available at all, unless you go to Amazon and such.. I'm already looking for alternatives to LR at this point, based on principle alone. I mean, I'm not a paranoid person when it comes to cloud based anything, but it's just not worth the effort to spend $100 a damned year when it's not my profession and I'm not making money from photography.  Why all of a sudden is a stand alone version so threatening to the LR business model? Hell, if you're going to charge as such, I want to see better cloning tools such as those found in freegin' Elements or PS, like content aware capabilities. If you're forcing people to spend money, then take that cash and dump it into your devs hands for better tools for ferk's sake!
As an X-T1 owner, I've already adapted the stand alone dng converter tool into my workflow, but it's the most tedious waste of time, ever! And from what I've seen with LR 5.4, the native RAW conversions for the RAF files look like absolute CRAP. So why even bother getting it for that reason? For years I was able to update my versions of LR for $99 at MY chosen time and convenience, and now that option seems to be gone, and would have to pay $135 over at Amazon if I want the stand alone version minus the CC nonsense. Honestly Adobe, I truly hope that another company comes along and whoops the hell out of LR. Which is entirely possible. PS, maybe not so much, but I can still hope. Maybe then you'll realize how arrogant and slimy your sales tactics have become.
