Support timeline for OS X

Hi all,
This has been asked before, but it went unanswered, so I'll give it another try.
Has apple disclosed a timeline for OS X support? I do not mean phone support, or applecare, I mean continued security updates. I use 10.3.9 and security updates keep on coming. Will this stop sometime? Do users of previous versions still get updates?

Although Apple will continue some limited support for older versions of OS X in the form of security updates, there will be no further incremental updates for older major versions after a new major version has been released. When 10.5 is released there will be no further updates past 10.4.x, but there may be security updates for 10.4.x for some period of time. Since the release of Tiger Apple has provided two or three security updates for Panther but none for any earlier version. It's reasonable to presume a similar pattern into the future.
However, only Apple knows. No one here is an authorized representative of Apple so anything we assume here is purely speculative. Speculation is considered an inappropriate use of the Discussions according to Apple's Terms of Use.

  • Is Illustrator host adapter support available for HTML5 extensions?

    From what I can see in the extension builder 3 install, a JavaScript host adpater interface is only available for Photoshop.  Is this correct?  If so, is there a timeline for the availability of host adapter support for Illustrator?  This is a critical need for us to be able to transition our Extensions from the Flex framework to the new HTML5 framework.

  • Timeline for Flash with 64 bit operating systems

    Has there been any timeline for when Adobe will put out a version on Flash Player that works with 64 bit operating sustems? I looked around the site and forums and couldn't find anything on it other than the fact that it was going to come out after Version 10. Approximately when might that be?

    i thought the 10.1 version (beta 2) was to support  64 bit browsers..  Even on Windows 7 and windows vista.  Many Computer manufacturer's are now pushing the 64 bit versions of the microsoft operating systems which come equipped with the default internet explorer 64 bit version. 
    When will this version be available for download on windows 7 64 bit?
    And if it is available (even as a beta) where can I download the flash player for 64 bit operating systems and browsers.

    Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.

    Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
    It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
    Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.

    This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
    I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
    There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

    I tried to re-install and got the following message:  iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 1114)
    Does this mean I have now lost everything?

    I went to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 and did a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. You MUST follow the directions here exactly...it's more than just iTunes that must be removed, and it MUST be done in the order in which the support article says.  I followed the exact instructions, and iTunes is back on my machine (no more C runtime error) and you do NOT lose your music...it's all in my library, as it was before.

    Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    As a relatively new apple user, i find it difficult to understand as to why apple doesnt support whatsapp for ipad. I am mostly on the go and carry my ipad for business purpose, and as you know, these days social networking is an intergral part of our lives, i find it perplexing as to why ipad doesnt support whatsapp. Almost all of my collegue's and friend are using this, it becomes increasingly diffcult to multitask between a phone and an ipad.
    Could Apple kindly make it available for users. It would be really convinient, especially for people in the age group 50+ who would like to be in touch with their families regularly.

    Whatsapp is meant for phones, authenticated via the voice carrier link. That's what the developer (nowadays Facebook, who bought the company) decided to do with their app. Hacking that design sounds dangerously against the TOU for discussion in these forums.
    You can always search in other message boards outside Apple's regulations for what you want. Regardless, you will need an iPhone to authenticate and activate you Whatsapp account.

    According to your description, could you please post the summary and detail logs for further analysis? By default, the logs can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
    Usually, the error occurs when the Windows Installer Service is not running or the Windows Installer registry settings are corrupted.  I recommend you reset the Windows Installer Service settings in the registry and restart the Windows Installer Service,
    then reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2. For more details, please review this similar

  • AC 5.3 Release Note Inquiry - Is it included in an Support Pack for AC5.2??

    Hi Everyone,
    In release v.5.3 release notes, SAP noted that the logical validation of "not to allow approvers to approve their request" has been added. 
    Does anyone know if this functionality was included in a Support Pack for v.5.2 version?  Or would we have to upgrade to v.5.3 to benefit from this functionality?

    When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
    Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
