Support to Xquery 3.0 Specification

I would like to know, is there any plan to include support for the new version of XQuery 3.0, the final specification is available since four weeks ago, it would be good to use new features of XQuery 3.0 in OSM
Features like Try / Catch, Dynamic Function call, and others

XQuery 3.0 is supported by commercial versions of Saxon, however we don't support that version of Saxon and do have have any plans to upgrade to in the next patches or release. Saxon libraries are remediated libraries and currently we don't have any plan to replace them or otherwise, unless we find a compelling requirement to do so. There is no support for anyone who wants to swap out and use a newer version of Saxon, we only certify against the given version that we support. So unfortunately, I don’t see any way to support the try/catch expression in XQuery in OSM at this time.
I would suggest you to please log an enhancement request via support.us.oracle.com so that we get this requirement included formally in our list.

Why no support for GeForce GFX 750 Ti specifically?

Today I received and installed my brand new GeForce GFX 750 Ti, specifically bought for being able to use After Effects properly. My last card was an ATI/AMD FirePro which has no CUDA and thus couldn't use Ae. So I was using it CPU only! Which is total madness.
I was extremely disappointed to realize that my new GPU also isn't used almost at all, and that it's just as slow as my CPU-only! There is... no difference. I expected the difference to be like night and day.
Yes, I have the latest correct driver.
Yes, I have verified that other things using the GPU indeed are much faster.
I have looked through all the settings in After Effects and tried to make it use the GPU, but it just won't. I then saw on some page of compatible cards that Adobe lists all of them except for my card (basically). I didn't believe my eyes. I had no idea such a list even existed, and I especially didn't think that "certain models" of the same brand and model series of graphics cards would not be supported. It makes no sense. Both weaker and more powerful cards in the same damn series are supported, but not my card specifically? That's... unbelievable.
This has got to be a case of them simply having not yet tested my card well enough to call it "support", but it still sounds fishy to me as my card definitely has CUDA and is rather powerful. Much more powerful than other cards supported. It doesn't make sense to me.
Of course, I have it set to "use GPU anyway", but again... it doesn't seem to be used. This kills me. What is preventing Ae from using my card?

That's not the same thing at all. Grumpy Man Leroy has no control or anything to do with the sidewalk outside of his property, but if you are purchasing hardware specifically to be used for a piece of software, it would make sense to check the technical specs of that software. This is not absurd; it is common sense. I wouldn't go buy a new engine for my Jeep Wrangler without checking to see if that cool Corvette engine would even fit with the rest of the powertrain in the Jeep. Even a quick check of the AE tech specs page would have told you about the graphics card requirements.
As a side note: There are a lot of (much higher-end) software packages out there that are a lot pickier about their hardware than After Effects.
But let's let the past be in the past. Let's try to solve your problem. (Is returning the card and getting a proper one out of the question?)
Assuming you can't exchange the card, what version of After Effects are you using? As I hope you know, AE really only uses CUDA on the GPU for one thing: acceleration of the ray-traced renderer.
If you're using CC, you can ignore the ray-traced renderer completely. There is a version of C4D that ships with After Effects now (which is huge news). It renders better (and faster) than AE's ray-traced renderer. It's a much, much, much better way to do 3d in After Effects. Make sure you update to the latest version (12.2.1.5 is the latest on as of today).
If you're using CS6, what exact version number are you using? Perhaps updating to 11.0.4 will fix your problem.

You have a number of options. You can use the built in Screen Sharing application, you can purchase Apple Remote Desktop for each user, you could look at 3rd party tools like GoToMyPC or if you are looking to replace Terminal Services look at AquaConnect.
The tool you use will be determined by what the users have at home. If they are also using Macs, they can use all the native tools. If they are on PC, they can use either a VNC client or many of the 3rd paty tools.

SAP support for country-specific legal requirements

Just wondering if anyone could clarify how does SAP support work for the country-specific legal requirements. I'm sure in every country some new laws come to life regularly that affect the SAP customers and their ERP systems.
Case in point - on July 1st Mexican authority SAT decided to ask businesses to send them some XML files with some GL account information ('Anexo 24' - see the announcement in Spanish here). The deadline for the first file submission is October 2014.
This clearly affects every single SAP customer in the whole Mexico, as well as potentially many North America customers who have manufacturing facilities there. So would it be reasonable to expect SAP to come up with some standard solution? XML file extraction doesn't seem to be incredibly complex to me (although I might be off).
Another question - how would the customers know that SAP is aware of new laws and is taking some action? Could there be an announcement posted somewhere? There is a website for SAP Latin Americabut the latest announcement there is from June and nothing else is on the home page except for the HANA ads. (My Spanish is limited to "dos cervezas por favor", sorry if I missed something.)
In absence of such communication, naturally, the only option the individual customers have is to send a message to SAP. And that's where SAP replies with a copy/paste text (we got the same exact response as another SCN member here):
Feel free to maintain this incident opened, but contact us in the next three weeks, then we will be able to confirm if this legal requirement will be supported by SAP.
I'm confused - "IF"?! This is a legal requirement, there is no "if" for the business. Let's see if I got it right - we wait for 3 weeks, then SAP decides "nah, not gonna support that" (by the way, why is it on the customers to contact support again?) and every SAP customer in the whole country will have to scramble their own resources or pay for consulting (on top of SAP maintenance fees) to deliver the same exact set of programs on their own in under 2 months?
It could've been just an unfortunate choice of verbiage by Global Support, but I'm curious - is this really how the support for legal requirements supposed to work?

Having been part of the SAP Globalization Services in Brazil, I understand a little bit of that process.
A few comments:
1) Localization of SAP solutions to country-specific regulation is under the responsibility of an area called Globalization Services. You can find more info about what they do here:

2) Typically, those country-specific requirements are discussed in much details on the local ASUG chapters (at least that's how we did it in Brazil). That's why it's usually hard to find material in English, but I'd say that your local IT/Biz people in Mexico should be regulars in their local ASUG meetings, specially if they have a specific chapter to discuss Localization matters.
3) I found out this note with more specifics about "SAT Anexo 24".

Suggestion if you want to speed the analysis up: reach out to your commercial contact in SAP.
4) Regarding your statement about the time it takes for the analysis & delivery to take place.
As an SAP customer, you have all the right to complain about the service level you're getting, it's just that, having been on the other side of the table, I know some facts that sometimes may be taken for granted. For example, SAP do not have infinite maintenance resources. I do understand that all customers pay maintenance and need to have their demands addressed, but SAP does not have a bench of developers available for whenever a new demand appears. If there is a new demand, they need to estimate the efforts and accommodate it into the development resource planning.
5) From a legal perspective, there is a difference between Legal Change and New Legal Requirement. The latter, if differing too much from the initial purpose of the acquired software, might not necessarily be required by the Software provider to be fulfilled within the maintenance scope. I'm not saying that it's the case for this Mexican requirement, I'm just saying there is this possibility, generally.
My personal recommendation: get your local Mexico people to be closer to the SAP Mexico team. They are usually responsible to publish information about such local requirements and the SAP release plan.

OSB: How to recreate reusable XQuery functions

OSB's XQuery implementation does not support the XQuery "module" which allows the creation of a function library so how can OSB provide function re-use?
I know you can create XQuery transformations that can be called but these always need a "body" that makes a specific call so I'm finiding I have to copy useful XQuery functions from one transformation to another. Ideally I should be able to call an XQuery function external to the transformation.
Does anyone have any pointers on this or is it a fundamental limitation of the OSB XQuery implementation?

What we did is creating a seperate project in which we use most of XQuery stuff, using SaxonSA library to run and validate the queries.
This project adds the following possibilities for xqueries:
- Schema validation of XPath used in XQueries (including namespaces)
- XQuery syntax validation (with errors at the exact line and position where it fails.
- Allows the use of modules
- Reqression testing XQueries
Regrettably we can not do Java callout's from XQueries as this is not supported on the ESB.
We also build a simple 'flattener' that takes a module based, schema enriched XQuery and then generates the XQuery that can be used on the ESB itself. The flattened query is also regression tested.
Although it was quite some work to make it, it already has paid back the initial costs of the project in the second or third project we did. We since then have enhanced the project so it also can do regression message flow validation on the OSB (we already had valid input and output messages).
The tool also greatly improves the stability of the code on the OSB, and reduces development time as we can build the XQuery from a unit test environment that will point out typos and other xpath related problems.
We do have some fairly complex xqueries on the OSB, the number of xqueries in the project at the moment is 187 with 250 unittests.
So, if Oracle is not going to include it in the OSB itself (which seems lilkely at the moment), you can build such a system yourself !

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw - PostScript support?

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a new printer/scanner/copier(/fax is a nice to have, but not mandatory), and I'm deciding between the following models:
HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw
PostScript support is important for me, and I know that the 175 has this. However, I'm not sure about the 177, even after digging through several web pages and documents. Here's what I found:
- The main specs page for the 177 says that it supports "PCLm". I'm not familiar with this PCL variant, so I don't know how it compares to PCL5 or PCL6, etc. I was unable to find more information on "PCLm".
- The "Software Included" section of Page 2 of the PDF datasheet for the 177 mentions "HP PostScript" driver. This is the only place where I've seen any potential indication that the 177 supports PostScript. This section also mentions a "PCLmS" driver. I could not find any further information on "PCLmS".
- The for User Guide the 177 only mentions PostScript in a section that refers to ePrint. However, it does not imply that the 177 itself supports PostScript.
- The Product Specifications page (in the Support section of the HP site) for the 177 has a "Printing Specifications" section which lists only "PCL3 GUI" next to "Device languages".
I'm guessing that the 177 does not support PostScript, but does anyone have any more definitive information? Also, is there a description of PCLm / PCLmS somewhere?

How to add all namespaces in root node of xquery transformation result?

CS4 license marooned on my dead / inaccessible computer. Online Support goes in circles. Can't elevate to human by phone, or by chat. Chat link grayed-out for me. Now what?

Following Contact Customer Care did not lead me to chat option that I could spot. I'm sorry if I missed a link that is obvious to everyone but me. Maybe I just need that link pointed out to me more vigorously.
By the way, this link, What are my contact options? has a chat option, but it is grayed out (at least for me) so that's a dead end.
So, please explain to me (like I'm a bewildered child) how to get to chat support. I am unable to fill in logical gaps by myself. :-/

Incidentally, I gave her a detailed description of my deactivation problem too. Shivangi responded by directing me to use the same link that goes in circles! I am unable to get online or phone support from Adobe. I need to deactivate CS4 from a dead computer. Adobe online help is defective because it puts the user into an endless loop making it impossible for me to find a solution, and impossible to get support. Please remedy the defect and please call or email me to manually update Adobe's activation database. (Phone and email address redacted.)
I own a copy of CS4 that is marooned on dead computer. Consequently, I can not deactivate that copy. I know that a single license for Adobe CS4 only lets me install the application on two computers, of which I can only use the application on one computer at a time.

Not to sure what type AVI files they are, the storage devise is at present offshore on a job.
Can you clarify, if you edit/import video footage with adobe premiere 10 and then create a file, the file or the original raw footage is not stored on computer for re-use, if it is stored, is it stored in the original format.

Sorry, I assumed you were using 12c. OSB 11g supports the XQuery 1.0 W3C Working Draft from 23 July 2004 and also does not include the castable expression. OSB 12c supports the full XQuery 1.0 recommendation (including the castable expression).

XQuery equivalent of SQL "Group by"

If I want to return a set of documents from a collection, grouped by a certain criteria, is it better to use
1. fn:distinct-values() and then use an inner for loop that returns the documents matching the current distinct value, or
for $dv in fn:distinct-values(fn:collection()/foo/bar[some-predicate])
for $d in fn:collection()[foo/bar[$dv]]
return $d
2. use a single for and order-by
for $d in fn:collection()/[foo/bar[some-predicate]]
order by $d/foo/bar
return $d

Based on that, it looks as if distinct-values is the best approach. However, I would like to know for sure. We are using 2.3.10

Hi Chelliah,
As far as I can see, your two queries will only differ if there is more than one "foo/bar" in each document. If there is, then the second query will cause a runtime error.
The more usual way is to use distinct-values(), but both ways are a bit of a kludge in my opinion - the XQuery 1.1 specification is expected to include a proper "group by" operator.

Adobe DNG files not supported in Aperture 3.1.2?

Those of you that follow this forum may have read my previous post - https://discussions.apple.com/message/15009745#15009745 - about RAW files from my old Windows machine whice look fine in iPhoto, but when I imported my iPhoto library into Aperture 3 they have this red haze over them like a flash coloured gel.
As I said, the older files came from my old Windows machine, where they had been stored in Photoshop Elements, and in the past I had converted them from Canon's .CRW file format to Adobe's .DNG format. I've just checked in Aperture, and it is indeed only these which are washed out - all of the Canon .CRW files look fine, it's the Adobe .DNG files which are a mess. I'll hazard a guess that Aperture doesn't support the Adobe .DNG format I have and that is the issue, but why they are supported in iPhoto and no the professional app I can't imagine. A call to Apple tomorrow morning is in order to sort this one out I think unless any of this excellent forum's followers can offer help. Has anyone had a similar experience importing .DNG files into Aperture 3? I should add that they bad either form the original import from iPhoto, or directly importing into Aperture.

As I said in the post this provides some useful background information, but I can't imagine that iPhoto uses a better DNG converter than Aperture (although perhaps older, so maybe that's why I can see the files okay in iPhto and not Aperture?). As for my OS, it's the latest version, I've done two software update checks this week so would for sure have run that when it came around, but I appreciate yours and others thinking on this problem of mine.

Since installing Snow Leopard, FCP doesn't support second display

I'm running the new Mac Mini and have an LCD TV connected to the second port. I could edit before in FCP and the second screen would display whatever I selected in FCP (browser or canvas). Now it's not working. In View --> Video Playback, the second monitor isn't available.
Does anyone else have this experience?

Not sure if it will work for Youtube, as Youtube is a blend of HTML5 and Adobe Flash, but here is how to set Realplayer as the default:

It may have better luck working with any video that is MPEG-4 since Realplayer adopted that format.
http://www.flip4mac.com/ offers support on Quicktime for Windows Media videos. If that plugin has not been updated for your current operating system, that may be the source of your other problems.
Microsoft Silverlight offers additional video support that is operating system specific, which you'd need to check the version is compatible with your operating system.
