Hello, can someone please tell me what is the highets version of AIX and Solaris Unix that Oracle 9.2.0.1 can run on?

Assuming you have a Metalink account, there is a "Certify & Availability" tab along the top that takes you to Oracle's compatibility matrix. You generally want to read through those notes because there may be caveats (i.e. everything by product/feature X is certified) or addenda.

Non supported camera and old Imovie version question?

I have a multi part question. First, I have an Ion Video camera that appears to not be supported by IMovie. But I also have an old version of IMovie 8.0.6 because I've never used it up until now. When I upload my video's, Iphoto automatically opens and they go into there. I want to be able to use IMovie to edit, add music etc. I've never really manually imported or exported things on my computer and don't know if that is how I can get them over into IMovie or what. I've tried muddling through trying to do that, and apparently I'm doing something wrong. When I hook up my Ion camera directly to my computer the videos won't go directly into IMovie for some reason. I've tried dragging the videos from iPhoto into IMovie and that won't work either. Can someone tell me detailed instructions on how to exactly do this or what I need to do to get videos into IMovie. What if my video camera isn't supported?? I need to learn how to do this fairly quickly. Thank you

So I assume you have the clips in you event browser that were imported from your old digital camera.
And when you play them fullscreen, they look bad.
The point of a DVD, is to play them in a DVD player, usually a TV which is an even larger screen, AND
the problem is that conversion to the DVD will further degrade the quality. It will look worse.
what you need to do i think is to go ahead and make the movie (project) but plan on exporting it to a form that works well on a smaller screen, an iPod might be perfect for that. Or you could play it on your computer screen but shrink the movie (do not play full screen). Most of these will play with QuickTime and you can pull the QT playing screen to be larger and smaller by using the corner thingie in lower right hand corner of the screen.
So, make your project, and you will be exporting it ("Share" menu) as a QT file and playing it as a QT file, not a DVD. If you use Share menu, pick Export Movie and pick the highest resolution it allows and export it to your desk top, you will end up with your movie in a form that you can play with QT.

SAP on AIX vs Solaris

Experts,
I am making a comparative study between AIX and Solaris to make a business decision to roll-out SAP. Which one of these scores well when it comes to running SAP applications? AIX or Solaris? Please share your experiences. Thanks.

Hello Yasin,
I worked with the 2 OSes and I must say that IBM virtualization options (LPARs) are quite impressive and easy to manage. It gives you great flexibility to share your hardware between isolated O/S images.
The Solaris zone concept is nice but not as flexible in term of isolation. One thing we discovered when working with Solaris zones is that you can have a filesystem used by 2 zones at the same time and you can't see it from the zones themselves. Only the global zone can give you a hint on this (I must admit that I am not a zone specialist and I quote a Solaris admin on that)
One drawback I see with AIX is that it has many "features" that make it a little bit apart of the other Unixes. We got for example a SAPINST failing because the filesystem mountpoint (which was created by smitty) had authorization root:sys when filesystem was unmounted. When mounted authorizations were correct (<sid>adm:sapsys). It was possible to read/write files inside it but the command pwd returned an error! AIX is filled with quirks like that.
As other said, it's more a "political" (vendor accointance, cost negociation) or "based on existing knowledge" choice anyway.

Which 10g release supports Solaris x86 version 10?

I downloaded Oracle 10.1.0.3 for Solaris x86. When I installed it, I got error, saying I can only install this version on Solaris 9 x86. Do you have any idea which Oracle 10g version supports Solaris x86 version 10?

If we believe metalink, Oracle 10gR1 is already certified for Solaris x86

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 10g

Certification Note:
Install Information:
o 1. Execute runInstaller with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.
o 2. Select 'Do not create a starter database' when installing Oracle 10g.
o 3. During installation, the warning message 'SUNWsprox package not installed' can be ignored. Press Continue to resume the installation.
o 4. Download and install patch 4186426 from metalink.oracle.com after installing Oracle 10g software.
o 5. If you have an End User Solaris 10 distribution, install the SUNWuiu8 package prior to installing the 10g client.
Have you run installer like recommended in point 1 ?
For 10gR2, you need to wait december for certification.

I have a W2K3 server where the volume is. It's a new Mac with OSX 10.8 and is connecting with AFP (I don’t want to move to SMB yet). There are older Macs with lower OS and all of them work fine. I have checked all the basic stuff and it is set-up correctly (hosts file on Mac, network, etc.).

I have developed a plugin using acrobat sdk 8, which works on both Acrobat 8 and 9. I have seen acrobat sdk 10, it has changes in the signature of the APIs.

Well, Adobe no longer supports Acrobat & Reader 8 – so you're on your own there.
However, there are no technical reasons that you can't develop a single plugin to support Acrobat 9 & 10 (or Reader 9 & 10). Many developers do it every day.

Currently i am trying to install SCOM2012R2 with SQL 2012 SP1. When i proceed with SCOM installation, getting an error

SQL Collation i selected as per System Center2012 guide SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

How do I make Read and Write 10 Gold work with Firefox? I have the latest Firefox 10.0.1 but it keeps saying "Please upgrade your version of Mozilla Firefox. The minimum version supported by Read&Write is version 3.0."

I just loaded Moxilla Firefox on my Windows 7 PC today and tried to use my Read and Write 10 Gold text help software but it just does not seem to work with this browser (works fine on Internet Explorer) as it keeps saying "Please upgrade your version of Mozilla Firefox.
The minimum version supported by Read&Write is version 3.0." but this versions is higher than 3.0!

Latest Version of OFA supporting Informatica and DAC

I was trying to find the latest version of OBI Financial Analytics Applications.
and i came across this link.

after going thru various documents here what i understood is that in the latest release of OBI i.e. 'Oracle Business Intelligence Applications 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7)' Oracle is no more supporting Informatica and DAC configuration but it's replaced by ODI and ODI studio.
Oracle is supporting informatica in N-1 version which is 'Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Version 7.9.6.4'.
I understand if we go with latest version there may not be much help available for installation, configurations and may be known and unknown bugs.
Request experts if you could please confirm this? and what will be the best decision to go with 7.9.6.4 or 11.1.1.7 version??

ODI is not yet supported for any of the BI Applications.
The target is CY 2008 for one of the Analytic Apps to be able to use ODI.
We will continue to support Informatica going forward and recently renewed an agreement with them.
To your other questions:
1. No, INFA 8 is not yet supported but probably this CY.
2. There are some documents that cover migrating and DAC Repository, etc. Yes this process needs to be improved but it is almost impossible to capture mechanisms that could compensate for every possible choice a customer could make.

When will new version 4.0.1 support Norton? Everytime new version is issued, it never supports Norton and we're never notified when it does!!

Everyone has some version of spyware, malware, anti spam protection....mine is Norton 360. Every time new version of Firefox comes out, we're told it doesn't support Norton and we're never notified when this will be rectified. Why is this?

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
