  • HT2499 why does my dvd player all of sudden say "supported disc not available" for dvds i have played in the past

My dvd player has been displaying "support disc not available" for all dvd's that i put in that just weeks ago were playing fine. ive tried cleaning the player and that did nothing...dont know what to do

I'm having the same problem lately.  I have a mid 2010 21.5" iMac with an internal SuperDrive running Yosemite.  I tried putting in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Giver" rented from RedBox.  Both spin sputter for a bit and then eject the disk back out.  So, it never mounts and no software (Finder, Disk Utility, DVD Player) ever gets a chance to see it.  Both play fine in a 15 year old DVD player, and my purchased copy of "The Dark Knight" mounts just fine in the iMac.  So, I have to assume that something is being done to the DVD's that rental companies are given to prevent them from mounting or something.
Not having any luck on Google trying to confirm that.
I guess I need to amend this.  Both DVD's play fine in a early 2011 13" Macbook Pro with the internal SuperDrive.  It's running Mavericks still and has a "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8".  The iMac has a "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H".  Not sure if it's the drive, the OS, or what (although I will say I'm fairly certain I was having this problem on the iMac before Yosemite, so it's probably not the OS).

  • CONSTANT "Supported Disc Not Available" message when trying to play DVDs

Does anyone have any idea what the **** is going on with Leopard!? Specifically, whenever I insert a DVD to play it in DVD Player 5.0, i almost always encounter the message "Supported Disc Not Available". At first I thought perhaps it was that I was trying to use some DVD encoded or burned with really new technology or something but then thought that that wouldn't be the problem since Leopard was just released and well after the most recent video DVD formats. Furthermore, the DVDs in question were released years ago. That said, what the **** is going on. I've verified and repaired disk permissions millions of times. I've tried restarting, shutting down and waiting then restarting...nothing seems to help. Can anyone advise?

Hi everybody, I have experienced that frustration also. I don't clearly know why the message appears, however I know that it happens with discs burnt form a computer (just like ronanocallaghan said). I haven't found a way to solve the precise moment, however THERE IS a way around it. When you open DVD Player instead of clicking on "Play" go to File > Open DVD Media. Once the dialog box appears select the DVD, select the folder inside the DVD most likely called "VIDEO_TS" and click open. This way the DVD Player will successfully find the movie or whatever you are trying to see. I don't know the reason but hey, it works. Another weird thing is that this just happens in the computer because if you try to play it in a DVD it doesn't give not error! Hope it helps and i'll keep finding the reason of why it doesn't work!

  • Why does the DVD player say "supported disc not available?"

So, regular DVDs will play and are recognized on my Macbook Pro, but I'm trying to play a recordings DVD (for a music literature class) and the DVD player says "supported disc not available." The DVD is supposed to work on my operating system since it's the newest one, but I don't know how to fix the problem! Please help!
    Thanks!

My Mac Mini doesn't recognize my Avengers DVD--it keeps saying "Supported disc not available." I've tried other DVD's which work, but not this one. itunes and everything else has been updated to the newest versions. Help? Also...It doesn't recognize the digital copy DVD.

I have ALL the exact same symptoms as on my home computer.
It sure sounds to me like something on the iPod is broken. If it's under warranty then I would send it back for repair. If not, check out some of the web repair services, such as iPodResQ etc.

  • One Step DVD in Mac OS X DVD Player = "Supported disc not available"

I created a few simple movies in iMovie HD 6 and burned them in iDVD 6 as One Step DVDs from the iMovie Project file using Verbatim 2x DVD-R discs. The final DVDs have no trouble playing in my standard component DVD players, however they won't play on any of my Macs. I get a "Supported Disc Not Available" error message when I launch DVD Player.
Is there a compatibility problem between DVD Player and DVDs burned with iDVD??

My version of DVD Player is 4.6.5 which works fine, but I don't EVER make OneStep DVDs. Check your version.

  • Supported Disc Not Available error

I have anew mac book pro that is about a month old now. I've never used the DVD player until today trying to watch a movie. I got an error message that states after I pop the DVD in : Supported Disc not Available
I've tried several DVD's and I have the same message with each one. I'm playing a cd right now while I type this. Any thoughts on this problem??

Hi - we have the same problem and I tried this fix but the repair permissions buttons are greyed out when I select the DVD Rom - if I change to the hard drive then they become active again.
Can you suggest any reasons why this is ? We are logged in with administrator rights - grateful for any assistance

  • Supported disc not available; i.e. imac not recognizing "burned" dvd

After using iDVD, and not being able to create a finished dvd from an iMovie project with my 1000mz iMac, I had to use my daughter's 1.4 gz iBook, and successfully burned a disc image.
After I burned a DVD from the disc image, it played fine in my home DVD player, and the iBook from which it was created. However, when I put the disc in my iMac, the disc was not readable within DVD player. I kept getting the following message:
    "supported disc not available".
Although the name of the DVD appeared on the desktop, DVD player could not play the contents of the DVD. After visiting the Apple store, the "genius" suggested the super drive in the iMac is very sensitive, and after age, may not read all discs.
    Now my question:
If i need to upgrade to a MacBook (so I have a faster processor to finish DVD projects), and the finished discs are not readable in my iMac, does this all make any sense? Is there another explanation as to why the finished disc was not readable in my iMac, yet was readable in 6 other Macs at the Apple Store? Could it be the media (I doubt), the super drive in the iMac, or the way in which the disc was burned using the iBook? (I used "Toast" to burn the dvd, not apple's "disc utility" .Any advice is most appreciated.

Is there another explanation as to why the finished disc was not readable in my iMac, yet was readable in 6 other Macs at the Apple Store? Could it be the media (I doubt)
Yes it could be the media....some drives don't like some kinds of media. You might find if you switch, things get better. I like verbatim. Is it a DVD-R or DVD+R? How old is your iMac?
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
the super drive in the iMac
Yes it could be that too. Could even be a dirty/dusty lens in the iMac. If it's not working now, I'd try a CD/DVD lens cleaning disk. Some users don't like these and think they can damage things, but not me. But use at your own risk.
or the way in which the disc was burned using the iBook?
Since it worked well in many other players, it sounds like you've got a pretty good burn. But I said pretty good. You can get better burns if you burn at slower speeds - I use Toast at 1X when I want the "best" burn. I doubt Toast is the problem though, just maybe the speed of the burn.
DVD compatibility is still not where it should be for home computers, Macs or PCs.

  • Time Machine Not Recognized After Clean Snow Leopard Install

I've searched for this particular question.
I was unhappy with Snow Leopard dragging. I wanted a clean install. I did not have the original snow leopard installation for my computer, so I got a different snow leopard DVD. This has apparently caused problems with time machine.
The clean install in complete. I am now ready to migrate my Time Machine backup onto my iMac24". However, Time Machine is not recognized--at least not in the way I want.
When I plug my time machine HD into the USB, snow leopard asks if I want to use this for future back-ups. I decline, because I specifically want to restore what has already been backed up. The HD is visible as an external device--and I can in fact see the raw data of my time machine backup stored in folders.
However, when I enter migration assistant, time machine is invisible. On the page where I am expecting to select time machine, I instead get a perpetually spinning circle icon.
I suspect time machine is "linked" to the prior snow leopard operating system, rather than to the computer ID. Obviously, this is a bit of a mistake on my part. However, I'm already into the breech and I've got no choice but to go forward.
Please advise how to redirect my time machine to its new master (same computer, different snow leopard registration)?
    Thanks so very much.

Retail disk? Yes, it was the snow leopard CD.
I used a single license snow snow leopard CD install the first time around, when snow leopard was first released. At at that time I "upgraded" my system from leopard.
This time, I used a different physical disk with snow leopard with a family license. This time I did a "clean" install in which I first erased my hard drive using disk utilities.
There were no problems with the installation.
As I say, my time machine hard drive is "recognized" by the computer as an external drive. It just is not recognized when I utilize the migration assistant. It is also "recognized" as a time machine, but only as a potential time machine for prospective use to update going forward, whereas I want it to open up as a time machine for my iMac that I just wiped clean yesterday.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • My Macbook Pro will not play a Disney DVD (Howl's Moving Castle). It says supported disc not available but it plays on my cousin's Macbook Pro.

Basically my macbook pro will not play this one DVD. It is a dvd that is fresh out of the package that I order from amazon and it is the second dvd that I have tried. Amazon sent me a new dvd when there were problems but both are not working but my laptop will play all other dvds, including the bonus dvd that came with the dvd i am trying to watch. I tried playing the dvd in my cousin's macbook pro and it worked. I already repaired discs permissions and restarted my computer but i cannot get this dvd to play for the life of me. When I put it in the disc drive the laptop buzzes for a few seconds then spits it out. When I open dvd player before hand and hit play it gives the message "supported disc is not available"

The laptop is about 2 years old, and I watch a lot of movies on it. I would think I had set the region but I could be wrong. I'm in North America wouldn't that be the preset? Also, how would you go about changing or double checking that. Also if a movie was from a collaboration of disney and studio ghibli (japanese studio) would that mean I have to change the region just for that one movie? It would be weird if it were that way because I have another movie by disney and studio ghibli, and it plays, for that matter so does the bonus feature disc that came with this movie....

  • MacBook will not sleep automatically since Snow Leopard install

Hello. I am having a serious issue with my MacBook since upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, 2.4 GHz) will not go to sleep automatically anymore. If I select "Sleep" from the Apple menu it will sleep fine. However, it will not sleep according to my Energy Saver preference pane which says sleep at 1 min each (Display and Computer). Another thing to keep in mind is that my display sleeps perfectly normally. However, the computer itself will not sleep.
Here are the things that I have tried so far:
    - Reinstall 10.6.2 combo updater
    - Remove Energy Saver preferences and entire System Configuration folder
    - Made sure that no hardware or software is interrupting sleep
    - Reset PRAM and SMC
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.2 with ALL updates and firmware installed.
Please help me figure this out as it is a serious issue. Thanks.

  • I have a macbook pro OSX 10.5.8. My DVD player software 5.0.3 plays all DVDs without a problem. When I load a DVD from Netflix it shows that "the supported disc not available" on the blank, black screen?

I contacted Netflix. They are unfamiliar with this problem. Anyone have any experience with this problem

I have the same problem. I put a Dexter dvd from Netflix in my Macbook pro 0sx leopard. Nothing happened. Dvd player did not recognize the disk. To check whether the Dexter dvd was damaged, I put the dvd in my PC and it worked without any problems. I then put another dvd disk (Kubrick's Shining) in my Macbook and it worked fine, so there must be something in the Dexter dvd that messes up the Macbook. I've seen other posts specifically citing that the Dexter dvds do not work on the Macbook. This looks to me like a Showtime problem.

  • Dvd error message on mac supported dic not available?

Commerically available but ordered via Amazon  CD or DVD gives me this error message  "supported disc not available"

Not sure of your precise question, but if your Mac is having trouble playing a commercial DVD (video) and having trouble with audio CDs, then it sounds like a hardware problem, ie, your optical drive (CD/DVD) isn't working right.  Are you trying to play a DivX disk?  BluRay?
This forum is focused on creating DVDs with iDVD software.  Other forums focus on hardware, playing DVDs with Apple's DVD Player, etc.

  • Supported Disc Not Aavailable - a conclusive test

Here it is a nutshell. If I create a DVD on DVDSP4 and burn it from there, it will play fine on DVD Player. If I build to a folder and then burn the contents of those TS folders in TOAST 6, I get a disc that plays everywhere except DVD PLAYER - the error message showing "Supported Disc Not Available".
Now I need to work on the variables of Toast so that this does not occur - or try burning the TS folders thru another avenue to see what happens there.

Thanks for replying. I'm using Toast 8. Because I was adding a pdf I was under the impression that I should choose the "data" option and I have the "mac and PC" choice. So I dropped both my pdf and my video and audio folders in this window. Then I went to the "video" window where it says, "Drag video files into this area." I again dropped just the video folder in there.
Lastly I burned at a 2x speed on 8x dvd.
