Supported Graphics Card?

I am considering upgrading from Final Cut Express HD to Final Cut Pro X. My MacBook pro is a few years old, and so I've been checking carefully to see about compatability. Can anyone tell me for sure whether or not this graphics card is supported: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB. Thank you!

Thank you. I had previously read the technical requirements, but what prompted my question was this listing at the end:
The following graphics card is OpenCL compatible but does not meet the VRAM system requirement for Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4.

FAQ for supported Graphics Cards?

Hi all, I have a question about my old MacPro.
Version 1,1 currently running 10.5.6 and an Nvidia FX4500.
My boss just dropped an FX 4800 on my desk, but doubt it'll work. Had the same issue with an FX5600 about 6 months ago.

Apple does not have the 8800GT, and it has not for months for 1st gen Mac Pro owners like us.
Your best upgrade is ATI 3870 or 4870.

Is there any official list of supported graphics cards for HP motherboards (specifically HP IPISB-CH2 (Chicago))?
I've been trying to upgrade my graphics for MSI GTX 960, but found out the MB's BIOS (v. 7.12) is incompatible and there's no BIOS upgrade available that would solve this problem. I have returned the 960 and wanted to try the GTX 660, but a few people told me they've also been having BIOS compatibility issues with this one.
The only info I found was that the MB "Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards" (source: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02854392 ) - which is a very insufficient description (as the GTX 960 meets it and doesn't work anyway).

There are three versions of the motherboard, in the official web site can see that detail parts, desktops using IPISB-CH2 (Chicago) from factory, and video cards are installed on them.

You will have to switch the sound Playback from Speakers to the Digital Audio output.
Disconnect the speakers from the default output at the rear of your PC. Sound will be output through the HDMI cable to the device it is connected to if the video device has HDMI sound capability. If you have it connected to an HDTV it should not be an issue. All you will have to do is use the TV's menu to accept the computer input instead of cable.

Photoshop and Lightroom freezing with supported graphics card

Good Morning,
I'm looking for some help to correct a problem. I'm sending this request to Adobe, Asus, Corsair, and Intel. I'm a professional photographer and this is my new computer to support the Nikon D800.
Problem:
When working in both Photoshop (CS5) and Lightroom 4 my computer is freezing and I'm having to do a kill restart to unfreeze the computer. This is happening when doing simple processes like panting with the air brush in Photoshop.
I have to correct this issue it is my livelihood. Which of the components do I need to replace and with what specifically?
Computer:
i7 3970k CPU Intel
Asus Sabertooth X79 motherboard
Corsair 8- 8GB for a total of 64GB of ram (un-buffered)
Two drives both Western Digital
Graphics card is a Adobe supported ASUS GeForce GTX570
Windows 7 professional
Attempted corrections:
Up dated graphics card drivers, and Windows, check and unchecked Open GL Draw but it freeze in both setting. Follow all of Adobe's set up guide lines. Follow the recommendations from NAPP. Had some bad sticks of ram waiting on Corsair RMA replacement. Computer has 16 GB of ram in it at the current time but the freezing characteristics are the same with 64 GB and 16 GBs of ram.

I am running Win 7 Prof on a Xeon processor with 12 GB RAM. Occasionally I experience random freezes of my system but as far as I can tell neither Lr nor Photoshop are involved.
I never found a cause since my Event Viewer does not give any error messages.
I have searched the Win 7 forum at http://www.sevenforums.com/#windows-7-help-support

They say they fixed it with a hotfix but it seems it still does occur. My last freeze was on May 3, 2012.

Does Compaq Presario CQ42 series support Graphics card?

It has a graphics card or it would not show anything on the screen. It is just an "integrated" card not very good for games. Sorry to say you cannot add anything ese. The graphics chip is soldered to the board. And there is no expansion slot for a video card or any other place to put one.

I am currently using a ASUS HD 6950 Direct CU II graphics card and the OpenGL rendering (not sure of the exact term) features are not supported.
I am therefore intending to upgrade my graphics card and I see a list of supported cards here - http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/tech-specs.html however even the latest GeForce GTX card is quite old (580) .. I am looking to get the - "KFA² GeForce GTX 660 Ti EX OC 3GB"
Is this Graphics card fully supported with After Effects CS6 ? Any body know?

You mentioned in your first post that Keplar cards have teething issues... however I have read elsewhere that the latest update of AE (11.01?) addresses this?
Are you able to confirm whether or not the aforementioned card will, after the raytracer_supported_cards.txt hack, allow GPU Ray-tracing and CUDA ?

MSI G41M4-F supported Graphic cards ?

I just bought an MSI G41M4-F M/B, and i am going to get a new graphics card. The M/B supports only PCI - E 16x, all the graphic cards i can find require PCI-E 2.0. I tested a friends card (PCI-E 2.1) and it did not work....

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!!!! I have eight (8) of the ThinkCenter M57 6072 HDU running BIOS 2RKT64AUS. I have E8400s in a couple of them @ 3.0 GHz from the stock E7200 2.66GHz. Paid $65 each of the M57s at an online goverment surplus site. The machines are used by our kids for general homework and League of Legends, Warcraft, etc. The onboard graphics would not run these games. Purchased a ASUS Radeon HD 5450 Silent 1GB DDR3 64BIT PCI-E DVI-I HDMI HDCP Passive Low Profile Video Card for about $35. ***FAILED TO POST***. Purchased a VGA GIGABYTE|GV-N640D5-1GL RTL (NewEgg or NCIX) and it installed, posted, booted, and graphically scored 7.1 on Windows Experience Index and over 1300 on Perfomance Test 8.0 from Passmark Software. Card cost $100 (not on sale) Also purchased a pair of non-matching GT630s (~$65-100) and a GT610 (~$55) to try along with the GT640 but when they all came I started with the GT640 and never looked back. RMAd the others and bought six(6) more GT640s; only six(6) because I killed one of the motherboards updating the BIOS with the E8400 installed!! Only Flash with the correct CPU in I guess. I also intalled a ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT Dolby Digital DTS 105DB SNR W/ Headphone AMP for $35 and it went in the available PCI slot and now these machines rip and scream. The slowest part of these machines is the memory and the HDD. Easy to put in a nice SSD if someone wanted. And I might experiment with the E8400 machines with some faster memory. A55M-P33 and support for non-graphics cards in PCI-e x16 slot.

Does this motherboard support using an LSI raid card in the x16 slot, or does it only support graphics cards? I am building an Unraid box and would like to use the slot for an x4 or x8 raid adapter in IT mode.

Well wait around and see if anyone else post's but if you do a quick search of pcie raid controller you will find varying results. All the results I found were with Intel boards though so all I can say is no guarantees.

Premiere will use just about any graphics card to write to the screen so you may see what you are doing
For hardware MPE you must use a specific nVidia card... or a non-supported nVidia card with a small hack

So I am starting school and I wanted to make sure the laptop I buy is supported fully. I was looking at the list of supported graphics cards for After Effects and i noticed that the 700s and 800s are not listed. I am thinking it may be that the list is just out of date (I hope)

Any other cards may or may not work for GPU accelerated effects in AE using the Ray-traced rendering system, but this rendering engine is obsolete and will not be undergoing any further development.
A better list to look at are the Mercury playback supported cards for Premiere Pro.

Graphics card Mac Pro (Early 2008) What is supported

I desperatly need a new Graphics Card for my Early 2008 Mac Pro.
Bellow are the listed and supported graphics cards from apple site.
None of the cards listed for early 2008 is possible (Very hard) to get here in Norway.
I've read some treads here saying that ATI Radeon HD 5870 will work on Early 2008 Mac Pro.
- Can someone please verify that this will work?
- On the Note for early 2009 The radeon HD 5870 card requires Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later and it requires the use of both auxiliary power connections?

I have 27 Apple Mac Pro's (between work/office, home, and clients), and have four Apple Mac Pro's (just at home) and I have purchased the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards (7970PE53GHZ) for each of the 27 computers and the graphics cards do work great in all of my Apple Mac Pro computers (2008, 2010, and two 2012 Apple Mac Pro).
The only problem is that I have to boot directly into Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 to use the graphics cards because Diamond/Radeon/AMD have not released graphics drivers for the Radeon 7970 for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion (as of yet?)

Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will release updated graphics drivers for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion, and I believe the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card is probably the best graphics card out on the market (based on it's price/performance), the only problem/issue is there are no OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers for the Radeon HD 7970 series graphics cards yet.
Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will work on developing and releasing OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers.

Can I use an external graphics card over Thunderbolt?

Could anyone please tell me if I can use a graphics card with a Mac Pro 2013 over Thunderbolt using an expansion chassis? I have read that OS X doesn't support graphics cards over thunderbolt, however I've also read things that indicate it is possible.
I'm thinking of the using NVIDIA K5000 for Mac with aMagma Thunderbold to PCIe Expansion Chassis. Any help or advice appreciated. Thank you:)

An important deficiency remains. You don't get near a 16x slot worth of bandwidth, so transfers to/from the card may be slow. But if you want this for GPU computation, it may be workable (if expensive).
