Supported Hdd capacity (CPU1.2GHz)

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please excuse if I've posted this in the wrong place.
I need to replace the hdd on my iBook which currently has a 60Gb Hitachi travelstar Hdd (Hitachi IC25N060ATMR04-0).
I would like to replace this hdd with the largest suppported hdd I can, but have been unable to establish what is the upper limit for this specific iBook. Other posts I've seen suggest no limit, others suggest 120Gb.
Any body know what is the upper limit of the hdd, and would it help to update the firmware to increase the supported capacities?

Hi steeren,
Welcome to the Discussions.
The limit of the ATA-6 bus (144,000,000GB) is well over the size of any drive manufactured . Unless there's a limit placed on the bus by OS X I'd think the largest available would work.

  • Max supported HDD capacity on T2130CS

Hi there! I was wondering what the maximum hdd a toshiba t2130cs can support. Could it support up to 30gb? Thanks.

    Hello
I dont think that the 30GB will work anymore on this unit.
The 30GB HDD is more expensive as this TE unit ;)
    Buy a new notebook ;)
This is a Toshiba driver page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
There you will find a BIOS version 5.3 form 17/12/02. You can upgrade the BIOS.
Maybe a 2GB will work but please understand 30GB is not possible!!!

  • 648 Max: HDD capacity only 2GB (should be 30 GB) in WinXP

    Hi!
I have a problem that seems to be related to my new 648 Max motherboard. Windows XP doesn't recognise the full capacity of my HDD.
The HDD is about two years old (IBM Deskstar 75 GXP, 30.7 GB). Everything seems to be fine when i boot the computer. The motherboard BIOS recognises the HDD correctly. However, when installing Windows XP, the HDD capacity is limited to 2 GB.
There were no problems using the same HDD in Windows XP with my old motherboard.
    Anyone have any suggestions??

If you use A win98 startup disk and use FDISK how big does it say the disk is and are there any partitions on it ?

  • Finder not updating HDD capacity

    Hi all,
    I have a MacBook Pro 2,4Ghz running Leopard 10.5.8
Today I have moved worth 60GB of data to my external drive, but the HDD capacity has not changed. If I go on Macintosh HD -> Get info, the used and available information has not changed from before moving those 60GB to an external drive.
Before you ask, yes, I made sure I was moving and not copying and my thrash is empty.
    Thanks for your input!

Yes - the FileVault encrypted disk image that holds your home folder contents will not shrink down automatically when you delete files from it - it needs to be "compacted" to free up the space on your HD.
In Tiger, you are offered this prompt on logout:
I'm not currently using Leopard, but from this article:
    *Leopard's FileVault*
    http://www.technowhat.com/files/01cf0213092dcb31fc83e7f91810dcb3-41.html
In Tiger it prompted if you would like to recover space or skip this process. I found many of my users would select the “Skip” option because of the length of time this would take. It wouldn’t be unusual to see a Tiger system take minutes to finish this process. In Leopard there is no prompt. The recovering option is performed regardless of the user’s feelings, however the process is also significantly faster completing within seconds.
In Tiger, a laptop computer would only offer to recover the unused FileVault space on logout if the AC power adapter was connected. I don't know if you need to do this in Leopard.

  • Qosmio X300-11W - HDD Capacity and RPM

    Hi all,
    Quick question.
What is max HDD capacity and RPM for x300-11w
I wish to change my hdd but don't want to make mistake.
    Thanks

Virtually all modern SATA based laptops can take any size HDD. The previous limitation was LBA48, which was limited to 137GB. The next limit is something like 8 Exabytes.
The two things you need to be aware of is:
    1) Rotational speed. 7200RPM drives will work in any laptop, but they get hotter than 5400RPM drives. The X300 is a large machine, so a 7200RPM drive will be fine. If it was a compact portable laptop such as a Portege, 7200RPM may not be a good idea, unless the drive is generally a cool running drive.
    2) Physical size. Some HDD's can be 12mm or higher - especially if they are of large capacity. Measure the original drive, and ensure the new drive has the same height.

  • Does Tecra A7-248 support HDD viewing?

    Hello all.
I'm going to buy a laptop in next 1-2 week but I can't choose that Satellite A100-912 or Tecra A7-248.
Would you advice one of them and does Tecra A7-248 support HDD viewing?

yes i mean the notebook with HD DVD-ROM which is able to play HD DVDs. For example A100-912 has "HD to go" logo screen's top of right corner. You can see it from this link http://notebook.cz/clanky/recenze-notebook/2006/toshiba-satellite-a100-912/20_s.jpg

  • Which HDD capacity Satellite A20 S-103 supports?

Hello everyone and sorry for bad English ;)
I want to upgrade my Laptop's HDD but I am not sure which maximum size notebook supports?
    It's a Satellite A20 s-103, with Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz.
Can you help me about it?
I am thinking on buying a 160 GB Samsung HDD! :)
Its very important question for me, and I could not be able to find an answer yet.
    Sincerely! :)

    Hi
For me the upgrade of the HDD to the 160GB is questionable.
Im not sure that the BIOS will recognize such big size.
I know that the notebook should recognize the single sizes like 30GB, 40GB, 60GB or 80GB.
Of course you could try to connect the 160GB and it would be very interesting to know the results. Please report the details...

  • Compaq Presario CQ61 - New WD3200BPVT HDD - Capacity incorrect

The original 320gb Hitachi Travelstar HDD died in my Compaq Presario CQ61.  I have just replaced it with a 320gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue (WD3200BPVT).  Using my original Windows 7 recovery discs I have now got the notebook up and running.
However, my issue is that explorer says that the capacity of my new disc is 67.9 GB.  Where has the other 250GB gone and how do I get them back ?

Possibly this is partitioned or not partioned at all. I would strongly suggest to call the tech support and run the recovery process one more time with them on the phone.

  • Upper Limit On HDD Capacity For QS G4 2001 Model W/PCI ATA133 Card?

    Hey Everyone,
I currently have a Tempo ATA133 PCI card installed in my QuickSilver G4 2001 system (http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_ata133.html). To address capacity issues, I'm considering adding a very large 500 GB, 7200 RPM ATA133 Hitatchi HDD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822147008), which would connect to this PCI card.
Does anyone have reason to believe this configuration would cause issues, or if there's an upper limit on the amount of HDD space a PCI ATA133 card can support?
My feelings are that this configuration will be fine, but I'd like feedback before I proceed.

Good information bhgdfh! I'll have to reinstall OS 9 it seems to load the firmware, which is fine. If I end up buying the drive, I'll post the results! Meantime, I'm keeping the question unanswered in case anyone else has additional input.

  • HP compaq nx6110 hdd capacity

Hello people,,I need your help, I'm in the market for a larger capacity HDD to replace the current 40 gigs.
What is the largest hard drive capacity I can upgrade in this HP compaq nx6110 system?  I have the latest bios upgrade-f15.
I realized that ram upgrades get most poeples atention but not hard disk drive, you can't even find hdd upgrade adviser utility unlike ram upgrade utilities.huh?
    Thanks.

As long as the bios supports 48bit LBA (most likely that model does), then you can use any size PATA hard drive.
Otherwise you will need to limit it to less than 137gb
You can test your bios with this utility to find out for sure.

    More info on 48bit LBA

Looks like it does not support 48bit, similar model here

  • Max Support HDD?

I was just wondering, what is the largest storage size supported by the Macbook Pro 15 inch? I am kind of new to Macs and used to PC's limitations. Not sure if the Macs have these same limitations. I know you can get it shipped with a 500GB HDD which is what I have, but is that the largest supported drive?

The maximum disk size that OSX 10.4 and above can handle is a cool 8 EB. That's 8 Exabytes, as in approx. 8 million terabytes.
More to the point, if you are asking about the +internal drive in a MBP,+ at this point you should go with the options from Apple and not buy your own hard drive to put in. Search the Forum, you will find a huge thread about problems people have had putting in their own large capacity hard drives. The situation will get fixed at some point but for right now, sticking with the Apple options would be the sensible decision.
No such worry with external drives (Firewire, USB, eSATA) - get however big a drive you want and can afford.

  • Time Capsule External HDD Capacity

    Hi,
Latest Time Capsule  how much capacity of external USB HDD will be support.
    Thanks,
    Prem

As big as you can get.. 4TB is now readily available.
But I do not recommend using multiple disk raids as they are often not able to work.
You can use multiple disks.. you will need a powered hub anyway.
WARNING.. it is USB2 and it is slow.. about half the speed of the same drive plugged into a computer.
That is just the nature of handling files over networks to USB. It may not be noticeable from wireless.. but from ethernet the internal disk is much faster than USB. So you don't need fast disks.

  • More HDD Capacity for UCS C240

Dear All, I would like to see your advice
The UCS C240 I configure in CCW contain 24 Drive backplane,
my requirement will be 3 unit of 500G HDD (Raid 5) + 21 Unit of 1TB (RAID 5) = Total already 24 drive.
Since UCS C240 do not have more then 1TB SATA drive to choose in CCW, I am also unable to located any SFF Drive for 2TB or more.
In my situation, what if I would like to expand my disk drive capacity in the future?
(Actually I prefer to place 21 Unit of 2TB of more instead of 1TB, but the maximum capacity I can choose only 1TB)
Hope to have your advice, thanks

    Hi Calvin ,
According the specification for a UCS C240 SFF the maximum capacity for a hard drive is 1 TB.
Actually there is no hard drive with a higher storage capacity than that on that UCS model.
    Please check in here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10493/C240M3_SFF_SpecSheet.pdf
There is another model of the UCS C240 (High Density) which support hard drives for 3 TB:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10493/C240M3_LFF_SpecSheet.pdf
    Hope this helps.

  • Maximum HDD capacity for Core Duo MacBook?

With both OS X and Windows installed, I'm running out of space with the 80GB HDD my Core Duo (not Core 2) MB came with and I'd like to replace the original drive with the 200GB drive that the new MacBook Core 2 Duo can be ordered configured with. But I was told by a person at the local (non-Apple) Mac store that the Core Duo MB, unlike the Core 2 Duo MB, has a storage limit of "120 or 160 GB, I think".
This does not make sense to me. One would think that the addressable storage limit is a function of the OS, the CPU, and the bus width, not affected by a relatively minor (?) difference in CPU details. He acknowledged that although the physical form factor of the 200GB drive is the same as that of the 80GB (after first thinking that the phrase "physical form factor" meant a functional limit, thus calling his expertise into serious question), there is some sort of functional limit. He cited the example of the G4 desktop, which can hold 2TB of storage as 4x500GB HDDs, but that if equipped with 4x750GB drives, still recognizes only 2TB. I think this limit is a result of the basic architecture of the CPU and buses. To further muddy the waters, he said there's a limit on the size of the internal HDD even though a much bigger outboard HDD can be recognized "because the internal drive is wired right into the computer". This sounds really bogus to me, but I'm not quite confident enough that I'm ready to order that 200GB internal SATA HDD from Other World.
Can I go ahead and order the 200GB and know the whole thing will be recognized?

According to the specs - the 200G should work. Like First Magnus said - 200G drives are fairly new - heck, 120G SATA drives are fairly new for laptops. Look around - you should find something. Newegg has them one (Toshiba) for $259.00. With them being new, they'll be tougher to find, so the net is probably you're best choice right now. I know the local stores around here don't carry them yet. Best of luck...

  • Maximum HDD capacity for HP G7035EA

I wish to replace a faulty HDD in a HP G7035EA laptop.  What is the maximum capacity the BIOS will permit me to use ?

It is a SATA drive so there is not a BIOS limitation. Make sure you have ahci or "native SATA" enabled in the BIOS (if that option is even there). I know they now make at least a 640 gig standard 9.5 mm thick 2.5 inch wide laptop hard drive and you can definitely use one of those.
