Supporting both Oracle clients 10 and 11

Hello,
We have to deploy an application to different client computers - each could have Oracle client 10 or 11.
We don't want to ask users to change to another Oracle client, but we can ask them to install ODP support for their client.
My question is: is ti possible our application to be compatible with both Oracle clients (10 and 11)? How to achieve that?
Or it should detect client version and somehow use different ODP?
Thanks

The first thing to do is to go to the organizer preferences>media analysis and be sure the auto analyzer is turned off.

  • Oledb and path length - Oracle client and networking components ...

    Hello,
    I've been suddenly getting the
"Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation."
error when trying to connect to an oracle 9.2 database using the msdaora oledb provider.
"..ora92/bin" is in my PATH environoment variable and the hints about setting read and execute permissions on the ..ora92/bin direction didn't work for me. However, what did do the trick, was reducing the length the PATH environement variable to under 182 characters.
Anybody else seen this that can explain what's gonig on here?
    Erik

    Hello Kamal,
    Thanks for your reply
    My system looks like this:
OS: MS Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
    msdaora version: 2.81.1117.0
This problem has only recently surfaced, but has now appeared on at least two other systems as well as my own. Any system changes must have happened on all three systems. I have "automatic updates" setup on my computer and they maybe setup on the other computers - could the be responsible for breaking oledb?
    Other things I have tried:
The Oracle Oledb provider is also not working. It gives me the error:
"OraOLEDBpus.dll: the specified module could not be found"
When I reduce the size of the PATH variable it works too.
I am always able to run executables from the ../ora92/bin directory. So the path is only being wrongly interpreted by the Oledb providers.

  • What is an Oracle Client and why is it needed

    Hi,
I have an application that is using an Oracle database as data source. Application and database is located on two different servers. Now I will move application to a new server and to do this I need to install an Oracle client and install this on the new application server. From my understanding this Oracle client is needed to make it possible for the application server to communicate with the database server. I wonder if someone can tell me more about this Oracle client, functionality, role and why it is needed?
I have been recommended to install the Oracle client 10g version. Where can I download this together with instructions of installation process?
FYI - database used is Oracle 10g EE.

Third-party products (and Oracle's own too) need certain Oracle DLLs in order to connect to the database. This set of files is called the Oracle client. You may also want to learn about tnsnames.ora because you need to edit it in order to use Oracle client to Oracle database.

Yes! By all means, you can.
You will just have to install Oracle under different directories for different versions and set the ORACLE_HOME accordingly.

  • Oracle client and... Forms&reports client?

Hello, to all; may be you could help me:
I have installed a Oracle 9.2.0.6 database in PC-1, in PC2 I want to install the oracle client and the forms and report client... (I mean, PC2 is the PC where I will copy my Forms 6i client/server application and the idea is to put an direct access icon on the desktop to a .fmx... to be able run my application)
I've already insalled the Oracle client, only runtime version (I think 9.2.0.1, which was included in the oracle database installation cd's) but .. I need one more thing.. because I can't execute forms.. I need ifrun60.exe I think.. Where is it? Is there any forms & reports 6i client or similar? or is necessary to install the developer 6i (I don't think so.. but...)
    Thank you very much
    Jose.

I was reading lots of post and I've seen this two from 2001 related to Forms 5, I suposse they're applicable to Forms 6i?

Which version can I install as a pure client version of Forms 6i on a light desktop ? Is there a Forms client runtime like there was with the versions 5.0 and earlier, which we could use just to run a Form, without using any web server, Forms werver, nor using the extra/inter/intra-net ?
    Thanx for your help !!

Yes there is. Just choose Form/Report Server installation and choose customs. There you can choose Form or report runtime only (under Forms and Reports tree node) and click on install!
Remember to choose customs install so that oracle installer bring you the list of the component.
Do you agree? Could it be just begin the Forms&reports installation and after that.. Chosoe custom.. an choose to install runtimes?
(I'll try tomorrow and I will say the result here) I hope it works!!

  • ZAV, Oracle client and applications

    Hi,
    I have a old client/server software that need a Oracle 9.2 client.
As a test I have created a new snapshot, installed and configured Oracle client and the actual application on Windows XP, second snapshot, did a few changes and built the project.
First I test this on the same build machine - working fine. Then I test the file on a clean Windows XP machine, working fine, started the same test on a clean Windows 7 machine - working fine.
But when I test on a standard Windows 7 machine (with Oracle 10g client) it does not work.
The big question is how to isolate Oracle 9 client from other Oracle client resides on the host machine, or have I isolated too much (I created a cmd link within the virtual application and when I try tnsping within the virtual machine I get time out error.
Does anyone have any luck on virtualize Oracle 9 client and run it on machines with other Oracle clients on?

I am using several Macs running Yosemite. I was recently “upgraded” to Xfinity’s new cable modem which can support both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz networks at the same time. Actually I can connect to the internet over both with a satisfactory bump in speed for the Ghz. However when I connect to the 5Ghz the Time capsule disappears from the Airport Utility and claims to be Not Found. Is there something I have done wrong or just a Yosemite Teething Problem

First restart your mac and try again.
    It could be
that the router and the TC are interfering wirelessly with each other.
You can check this by pressing the option key while clicking on the wireless icon on your screen
    Open Wireless Diagnostics
    enter your user password
    Press CMD 4 then Scan
You will see all the wireless channels being used in your location and you can check if they are on the same channel
Make the SSID for the TC simple like MyTC
    Set 5Ghz to auto
    Update the TC
    Try again

  • Can a single Access Point support both bridge mode and Access Point mode at the same time

    Hi Guys
Does anyone know which access point can work in both bridge mode and AP mode ?
    Cheers

Well what are you trying to cover. If its really a large outdoor area, then look at the mesh AP. Those require a WLC. Autonomous or stand alone ap can perform bridging on one radio and client access on another. You can also look at AP that support indoor mesh that also controlled by a wlc. If your putting APs outdoors, then look at the outdoor mesh.

  • Oracle Client and SqlPlus on Mac Os X Leopard Configuration Script

    Hello,
I have just written 2 bash scripts for the installation and configuration of SqlPlus and the Oracle Client v10.2.
The first script MacSqlPlus.sh install the client set the environment variables, the second TNSconnectMac.sh help to configure the tnsnames.ora. They can be found here

    http://www.danilovizzarro.it/script/TNSconnectMac.sh
In order to have them working it's required to download the oracle client basic lite and SqlPlus in the /var/root directory.
A step-by-step tutorial can be found here http://www.danilovizzarro.it/?p=10
Soon I will try to upload a demonstration video.

It is possible that there could be data corruption, because this is not a tested, thus not supported, setup. I hope that helps!

  • Trying to create an abstract service that supports both DataService(LCDS) and RemoteObject

I am trying to create a generic service processor in ActionScript that would be able to use a DataService(from LCDS) or a RemoteObject, depending on a property setting. The intent is to be able to change a setting during installation to control whether DataServices would be used, or RemoteObjects. I understand that the server side logic would need to be written differently for each of the implementations.
The challenge is that accessing a DataService is synchronous, but a RemoteObject access is asynchronous.
For the synchronous access, I can just call a service and return the result directly to an object which can be passed back to the client.
For the asynchronous support, extra code must be written on the client side to listen for the return of a requested result (for example, the results of a database quesy). This code must be placed outside of the service itself, thus making the generic service non-generic.
Are there any examples available that accomplish what I am trying to do?

Hi. As far as I know both DataService and RemoteObject are asynchronous APIs. If you call a DataService method such as fill() or call a method on your RemoteObject, code in your Flex application will continue to execute and the result from the RemoteObject or DataService request will be received asynchrounously. I don't believe there is any way currently to make synchronous or blocking calls in Flex because of the Flash Player's execution model.
How are you planning on using the DataService and RemoteObject in your application? Is it to do something like populate a DataGrid? Do you plan on updating the data retrieved from the DataService or RemoteObject such as adding, updating or deleting records?
The DataService API is much more powerful than the RemoteObject API, in that if you bind an ArrayCollection that is populated from a DataService to your DataGrid, when you update data in the DataGrid, the data on the server is updated and all other clients that have the same view of the data will also get the updates. You don't currently get this functionality with RemoteObjects.
My point here is that if you wanted to write an abstract service that supports both DataService and RemoteObject and you need to be able to add, update or delete records you are going to need to write a lot of custom code to listen for collection change events when data on the client is modified and translate these change events into RemoteObject requests. Even if you did do that, other clients would not get these updates.
If all you want to do is something simple like populate a DataGrid with data from the DataService or RemoteObject, then sure, writing an abstraction layer on the client that supports both of these wouldn't be hard.

  • How to show a picture both on client and server at the same time (X11?)

    Hi Guys
I want show a picture on my client as well as on the server(in another location) at the same time, pretty much like showing something both on laptop and on a projector. Assume I have a picture sssss.jpg on the server A1, if I want to open that picture to my client, I can simply to do the following from client A2:
    xhost A1
    telnet to and login A1
    setenv DISPLAY "ipaddress of A2":0.0
Anyone can direct me how to show picture the client that I am sitting at an also show on the server at the same time?
    Thanks

VNC would let you do that. With a shared connection, both machines could run a VNC client to the same session.
