Supposedly OpenGL driver isn't working

I just did a fresh install of Arch on my friend's unused machine, installed KDE, installed a few deps that I thought would get everything up and running quickly, and installed Steam. I installed Garry's Mod without problems but running it gave me the error:
Could not find required OpenGL entry point 'glGetError'! Either your  video card is unsupported, or your OpenGL driver needs to be updated.
I have installed mesa and a few other drivers I believe, rebooting hasn't helped, etc. My GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 6450.

Post the full steam log. I've run into several issues where that was the most obvious error, but where there were actually underlying errors too.
Also make sure you have the relevant 32-bit drivers installed also.

I think not.   You will need to order a disc from Apple quoting your serial number, as many of these discs are machine specific.   So unless you can get your drive working I think you will have to take a trip to an Apple store.
Indeed, you have an old computer that may not be worth the cost of repair ... but it is still worth seeking Apple advice and a visual inspection.   It just might be something not too drastic.

Buy or borrow an external USB optical drive.
See the confirmation email or covering letter to obtain the serial number. If you have lost it, contact the supplier.

I have the disc for Ps elements 6 for windows, but my DVD drive isn't working. How can I download with my serial number?

I'm afraid there is no place to download photoshop elements 6, that i know of anyway.
(unless you had bought it from adobe as an download, then you could possibly log in to your account and download pse 6)
What operating system are you using?
Do you have another computer with a working dvd drive or do you have a flash drive, camera card.
USB dvd drives are dirt cheap, so if you live near a computer store, that might be an option or if you have a friend that has one you can borrow.

  • Disk drive isn't working, Macbook keeps freezing, what's going on?

I've had my laptop for about 2 years now, it's a Mid 2010 model Macbook Pro. I didn't have any problems with it until about 3 months ago. It started freezing randomly, and would give me this box in the middle of the screen of random colors/pixels. There is no input from trackpad or mouse, but everything keeps running. The screen freezes, but skype calls continue, youtube videos keep playing the sound, spotify will keep running, etc. It will do this randomly. For about a week it would do it a couple times a day, but then it stopped for weeks. It now does it randomly. The only way to fix it is with a hard shut off.
I also noticed that my Disk drive is not working. It does not recognize disks- blank cd-r, Cds.... It only seems to play dvds... It makes the sound like the drive is starting up when I try to play a cd, then shuts down immediately. It does this three or four times, then ejects the disk.
Has anyone else had issues like this? What can I do about the freezing?
My macbook pro seems to be running hot when I'm on sites like tumblr that have a lot of pictures or gifs. It never did that before. What's going on?

  • Internal DVD Drive isn't working... must install Windows via Boot Camp

My internal DVD Drive has died. Just keeps ejecting every CD or DVD I put in it.
*The real problem is that i need to install Windows via BootCamp...*
I've already defraged my Hard Drive and partioned it for the Windows installation
But even using an external USB DVD Drive I couldn't get to boot up from it
    to install Windows XP SP3.
BootCamp lets me use the windows disc that is inside my external DVD drive
and it even restarts... but after the restart chime, and the grey screen, it doesn't
start the windows installation... it continues to boot to my Mac partition.
(i've tried to manually change the boot disc in System Preferences, but it was in vain)
I also tried to use another Mac's DVD drive in Target Disk Mode... no results.
I even tried to Copy-Paste the entire file system of a Windows installation from a BootCamp of a friend but had no success making it to work.
*Is there any way I can install Windows with my external DVD drive?*
Because I don't have the cash for buying a new one right now...
And I really need windows installed via BootCamp...
    Thanks in advance,

For this problem there no alternative > I bought a new internal DVD drive and then I was able to install Windows via Bootcamp.

  • My CD drive isn't working?

I was going to insert a regular CD to burn music onto my computer and the drive took the disc in, made a funny sound, and ejected it. I retried and this time is was sort of resistant to take the disc in. I've tried all the trouble-shooting and restarting there is to do and it still doesn't work. Of course Apple Support is down; does anyone know how much it is to get this fixed or if it is even fixable? I'm still under my warranty. If it's too much trouble, would buying an external disc drive just be easier?

If you're still under a warranty, then get it fixed. It doesn't matter how much it costs if you're still covered as long as you can live without your computer for a few days.
The optical drive in my iMac recently died, but it's more than 3 years old so I'm no longer covered by AppleCare. Local repair shops all quoted about the same price to me: About $170 for the repair and $100 for the part. I could find the part myself for a little bit less but that still would have stuck me with a $250 bill since the repair itself requires surgery I'm not prepared to do myself.
So I purchased an el-cheapo USB CD/DVD reader (since I have other Macs around that can burn discs) for about $20. If I needed a reader/burner unit, it would have run about $50.

  • I used up my two downloads for my standard CS5 suite, my backed up program on my external hard drive isn't working. My serial number says it is invalid, what do I do?

I purchased the standard CS5 suite (photoshop, illustrator, in design, bridge) student package for my laptop (through a download process, not dvd, in which I had two downloads). I used my first one, that followed with my hard drive crashing. I used my second download, and then I had an accident with my laptop and had to purchase a new one. I backed up all of my programs onto an external hard drive and I just tried to re download adobe programs using that. When i enter my serial number it says it is invalid. What can I do? Live chat will not help me because I do not have the current CS6 or CC.

Double-check your serial number here: Find your serial number quickly
Serial numbers will sometimes become invalidated if they were hacked and made available on the internet.

  • My CD drive isn't working properly

for the last week whenever I put a cd or dvd into the drive it takes it for about 10 seconds before it spits it out. I can hear that it's not even starting to spin the disc inside, no disc icon shows up on my desktop either so it's not even starting to read or recognize that there is a disc inside there.
I've had this laptop for almost 4 years now, does anyone else have this problem and have any idea how to fix it?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

They were pretty marginal CD/DVD drives to begin with, so 4 years later this is not surprising. Mine is 3 years old and acts like an old granny a fair bit. If you don't need to to this portably a lot then buy an external drive like a LaCie Porsche.
They don't cost much and they are so much faster you will appreciate the improvement. No more 1X DVD burns for example.

  • My CD drive isn't working anymore

    Hi to all.
I've had my Macbook pro for about...4 or 5 years now.
I'm trying to copy some music from CD's i recently bought but for some reason my CD-Rom drive just keeps spitting CD's out. I put the CD in, and it spits it right back out without it even trying to spin the CD... Then I put it back in and it spins for literally a second, stops, and spits the CD back out.
I finally took out the CD waited a few seconds and put it in again and it finally took the CD. I thought it may have just been that CD so i shrugged it off, but when I put in the next CD, the exact same thing happened.
Has this happened to anyone else before? and does any one know what might be wrong and if their is a solution to this, how would I go about fixing this issue.
I'm having to copy the songs onto my PS3, then put them onto an external HDD then transfer them over through the external HDD. As you may have guessed.... it's EXTREMELY annoying.
