Suppress messages without opening

I used to hold a click and select a number of messages without opening them,on an old version.
Mail 8.1 does not seem to work that way ? Sorry to ask such a basic question but it seems too simple for Mail Help to understand ?!
Thanks

To select multiple messages in mail.

hold shift key

all the messages in between will be selected as well.

  • How can I delete a message without opening an adjacent one?

Before Yosemite you could delete a message from Mail.app without opening an adjacent message by holding option and clicking the garbage can.
However, in Yosemite, there doesn't seem to be a way to delete a message without opening (and setting the message's status to "read") an adjacent message.
I often don't have time to read all the messages in my Inbox so I'll quickly read some important ones and I'll leave the others as "unread" to get back to later in the day. Yosemite Mail doesn't seem to support this workflow anymore…
Anyone know a workaround; short of manually setting a messages status back to "unread"?

Ok, I'm answering my own question.  I made up a fake user name to get into my Palm Desktop and deleted profiles.  Then I went in with real user name.  All of my calendar entries were gone, but fortunately within the last month I had HotSynced and was able to HotSync again to get it back from my handheld.  I think I need a blackberry.  This stuff happens way too often.

  • How to view source of email message without opening the message?

In addition to Verizon Email, I use Windows Live Mail.  With Windows Live Mail I can view the source of a message without opening the message.  This way I can find out if the message is legitimate or spam before potentially getting hit with malware from a bogus message by opening it.  I can then set up a blocking rule so a bogus message from either the sender or the domain never appears in my Inbox.  I have not found a way to do this in Verizon EMail.
Is there a way to view the source of a message without opening the message in Verizon EMail?  Right clicking just opens the message which I do not want to do.

    computerbug,
You can get a preview of your email.  Log into the Verizon account and go to email > in the top you will see
    Conversations
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Settings
Click on settings < General settings > Display and you will see 2 options for email view.
(Preview is not available, if the resolution is less than 1024 by 768 pixels)

  • Delete message without opening

In other email clients and in Web based email I can delete a message without opening it. Is this an option for Apple's Mail?

"Ha ha! That's brilliant.... Uh, you ARE joking, aren't you?"
Roger Wilmut1 is not joking. Thunderbird works the same way.
"Do you presume that showing all the contents of a message in the lower half of the Mail window is different from opening a message in a second window?"
I believe what Roger Wilmut1 is trying to say is this:
Example - You may have a slew of messages however, only ONE you may wish to view. You can double click on that ONE message to open up in another window & just delete the rest.

  • How do I delete mail messages without opening?

I'm using Mountain Lion...before ML, when I had a mail message in my Inbox that I suspected might contain malicious content I could use multiple selection to delete it along with another email that was currently in the reading pane but no longer wanted. Mail would not show the malicious email in the reading pane after selection. Now whenever I select a message it's always opened in the reading pane. How do I select a message and delete it without opening it? This is a dangerous omission. Thanks.

  • [Linux] How can I see if there are new messages without opening Thunderbird?

    Hi folks
I'm working on Linux Fedora (20) and am wondering if there's any way to see if I have new emails without opening Thunderbird again. I usually have Thunderbird minimized and when a new email arrives, I get a desktop notification, which is great. But - if I'm away from my computer for a minute and an email arrives, I'll often not see it until the next one comes in.
On mac, the thunderbird icon would get one of those +1 badges. Is there any way to achieve this? For example have the title of the Thunderbird window tile change from "Inbox - Mozilla Thu..." to "[2] Inbox - Moz..." - or just leave the notification until I click it away.
    Thanks for any tips.
    Cheers

Thanks again Fabián, this add on is exactly what I need!

  • Why won't Mail won't look for new messages without opening up the app?

Mail doesn't automatically look for new emails until I open up the app. I don't get notifications and a badge doesn't show up. I always have to open the application for it to search for new messages even though I have it set to search every minute.

    Mail>Preferences>General:
    Check your settings.

Someone sent me a URL in a sms.  I want to copy it an put it in an appointment.  Everytime I touch the link it opens in Safari.  I just want to copy it.  Can I do that?  Thanks.

Tap and hold on the link, and a pop-up should appear. Tap Copy. If that doesn't work, tap the whole message and choose copy, then paste it wherever you want and delete the part that you don't need.

  • How to I restore the ability to view the contents of emails without opening

Several times I have been scrolling throuhg emails and the view of messages in my inbox will change so that I can no longer read messages without opening them.  How do I change this back?

    Two potential fixes.
    1) BE sure they are apps that you installed and didn't come with ios5
    2) Check your restrictions settings and be sure the "Delete Apps" isn't set to ON
Other than that, try resetting ipad (you dont lose anything) by holding power and home button until you see the Apple logo then let go. Once is powers back up see if you can delete again.

  • Spoofing ??  Delete eMail without opening 'Mail'

Can I delete a specific emails without opening the 'Mail' program? A company sent me an email saying I must log in to a certain web site. I don't want to do this, and want to instead delete this message. I did manage to move it to the TRASH so I can again use Mail. But if I attempt to open TRASH to delete everything, I get this pop up window that puts me in a loop.

What you need to do to avoid reading messages that have these types of popups embedded is go to Mail > Preferences > Viewing and uncheck "Display remote images in HTML messages"; and change the configuration of your Mail window so that selecting a message does not open it in the viewing pane automatically.
To do this, open Mail, look for the horizontal bar with the dot in the middle running across the right side of the mail window and double-click it to move it to the bottom of the window. From then on, as long as that bar is positioned there, you will need to double-click a Mail message to open it, so you can delete any message without opening it or reading it.

  • Delete without Opening Email?

I've noticed in the mail there is no way for you to just delete a message without opening it. As soon as you click on the message it opens right up. Sometimes there's emails that you know are junk an your unable to mark a box like AOL to just delete the message. I was wondering if there is any setting to change that?

you can collapse the message preview window. just drag the lower end of the message list all the way down. then you'd have to double-click on a message to read it.

  • How can I select and delete messages without T'bird opening each one as it is selected?

Well, that says it.... if I select a message, say, to delete it because the subject line says "If you open this message, your computer will be instantly infected with every known malware" - - woops! the Thunderbird setup just opened it.
-- I need to select for deletion without opening -- Am I totally missing something??

Under the heading of my "totally missing something", I had a suspicion that T'bird would guard against what I was concerned about.... Nice to have that confirmed.
Also good to have the F8 tip for future use.

how shall i fix and restore firefox as i am desperate please , please help....

    Does that Profiles/2tt76737.default still exist?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
