Suppress section when exporting or sending to printer

<p>Hi,</p><p>I haven&#39;t been able to find anything in the help, kbase etc. so I thought I&#39;d ask here - is it possible to suppress a section ONLY when exporting or sending to a printer?</p><p>I have been using the webelements functionality and added a mini-dashboard to my report (as a separate header) - and onscreen everything is great.  But I don&#39;t want that &#39;dashboard&#39; included in the output when I send the report to the printer or when I export (e.g. to PDF where it shows up as HTML tags).</p><p>When I looked to see how to suppress a section, i couldn&#39;t find anything about those particular conditions at all - or am I missing something?</p><p>Or do you think there is a way to &#39;trick&#39; the output by using sub-reports somehow - I haven&#39;t really used them so I&#39;m not sure how they &#39;interact&#39; with the main report or what is exported etc.</p><p>Any ideas/suggestions welcome....:-)<br /></p>

<p>to get your suggestion heard, check out the customer experience portion of the business objects web site at <a href="http://support.businessobjects.com/contact_support/customer_first_feedback.asp">http://support.businessobjects.com/contact_support/customer_first_feedback.asp</a></p><p>i know that others have requested this but the more that request it i think the better...i&#39;ve requested this feature myself.</p><p>regarding the webelements issue, what you can do is put your webelements controls on a separate report, or "jump page" that acts as a custom prompt page for the report. the user first opens up the jump page, and then applies the desired values and the submit button or link will hit the target report that does not have any controls on it. this way you still have a custom parameter page but the target report is printer friendly and export friendly.</p>

  • Lines when exporting to PDF (in print)

    Hello,
I have an indesign document with several transparent layers (light grey layers).
They all show fine on screen, and print perfect here. But when sending it to the printshop I ran into some white hairlines.
When exporting to PDF X/1a I get loads (transparency flattened), when exporting to PDF X/4 I do get a slight edge (in white) where the gradient transparency ends.
I do believe this issue is at the printer end, but 'yes we use PDF' was the only input I got from them.
Again, they print just fine on my home printer, but don't with the 'pro' printing company my company uses :s
Any advice, besides exporting to tiffs on those pages?
    Thanks!

I could paste the graphic with fade in photoshop and match the background.
The think is, the front cover for example has more transparency and layers and prints just fine.
Does stitching occur more on lighter objects and backgrounds?
I obviously can't trust the printer we're using to handle the flattening so we'll have to use a workaround.
    Thanks

  • Colors are printing incorrectly when exported to PDF but print fine from InDeisgn and Photoshop

Documents I create in Photoshop and InDesign and export to PDF print in different/wrong colors. The colors are fine when printed directly from Photoshop or InDesign, they look correct when viewing the PDF, but change when printed from the PDF (specifically blues print as purple). How do I fix this?

This really sounds like a color management issue.
How are you creating the PDF files from InDesign or Photoshop? We recommend using the PDF/X-4 settings for proper printing from Acrobat or any direct PDF RIP/printer.
Also would like to know what type of printer you are printing to.

  • Sound is lost when exporting or sending to iDVD

My project has sound in iMovie (8), but when I (a) export to Quicktime, or (b) send to iDVD, the sound is lost. I presume that some box hasn't been checked, but I've no idea what it can be

Well, I did this: I made a copy of the project, and then exported to Quicktime, and the sound was there! Then I sent the duplicated project to iDVD, and the sound was there as well!
This is not really satisfying, because I didn't discover what the original problem was - unless it's just a 'feature' of iMovie 09 that some projects need to be duplicated in this way.
(By the way, I've read that there are three check boxes in Timeline view (and that they all need to be checked), but I've no idea where they are.)

  • Errors when sending a print job via samba with CUPS 1.4.6-3

Hello people, this is my last resource i made the things posted in the wiki for CUPS and CUPS via samba and CUPS specific problems and cant find the solution.
When i send a print job using  HP LaserJet Professional p1102w with driver hpcups 3.11.5, requires proprietary plugin i recieve this message in localhost:631

if i change driver to hpijs, 3.11.5, requires proprietary plugin i recieve this message in localhost:631
    "Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE"
the hp-plugin is installed, in fact i have to change the link from python 3 to phyton 2.7 to work properly.
the uri for the printer is the form smb://username:password@domain/hostname/printer_name also tried smb://username@hostname/printer_name and smb://username:password@hostname/printer_name

  • Why do I get white lines surrounding transparencies when exported as a PDF for print - Indesign Vers

Why do I get white lines surrounding PSD or Tiff transparencies when exported as a PDF for print - Indesign Version 9.2?
I recently upgraded creative suite - now I am having issues with white lines surrounding any tiffs or PSDs when exporting for print.
I initially thought it was an acrobat viewer problem, but it seems to be effecting print. Please let me know if anyone knows the answer to this problem. thanks!

PDF settings? Flattener settings? Overprint and trapping settings? You need to be much more specific. Eitehr way, ask in the ID forum.

  • ID CS5 Disable background printing when exporting pdf

Is there a way to disable background printing when exporting to pdf in InDesign CS5?
I really prefer the way pdf-export has been done in the foreground as it has been since InDesign 1.0.
An option where you could choose between forground and background printing would be nice since I'm pretty sure there are people out there who want background printing. Why else would Adobe all of a sudden make this, in my opinion, stupid change?

For the record, exporting PDF has nothing to do with printing from ID. In theory it was made a background task to improve your efficiency and productivity (at the request of users, by the way), since a foregorund export stops you from doing anything else while you wait, but the background export allows you to work on things at the same time.
Most of the time this actually works well. There was a bug that showed up under certain circumstances (squashed in the last patch), and some reports of export failure with other files as well that are not related to the bug. Though I was one of the first to report a hang during export, I've not seen one in at least six months, maybe longer, and none of the files that originally failed do so now. If the reason you want the foreground export is to see a progress bar, which I miss, you can open Window > Utilities > Background Tasks to see it.
If you'd like this to be a user preference in a future release, file a request at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • Image aliasing when exporting print PDF at 300 ppi (bicubic downsampling)

    Hello,
i am trying to describe a problem which persists since version CS3 of InDesign. It's about aliased edges in images in a certain angle; occuring when exporting the brochure as PDF file (at 300 ppi). The placed images are always at a higher quality than needed (for example 780 ppi effective). The aliasing is not there when opening the original image files in photoshop (viewing at 100%).
    The PDF export settings are:
    - Compression: Bicubic downsampling to300 ppi for images above 350 ppi (for color images, grayscale images and monochrome images)
    - Crop Image data to frames
    - Marks: Crop Marks and Page Information
    - Output: No Color Conversion
    - Advanced: Transparency Flattener: High Resolution
    - Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
    - PDF /X-3:2002
    Below are two screenshots
    - The left one was the original image, downsampled to 216 mm in width using automatic bicubic downsampling
    - The right one is the result when exporting a InDesign Document with the same width to a PDF with the mentioned settings
Downsampled in Photoshop CS6 to 216 mm width
Exported from InDesign CS6 with mentioned settings
I have no clue what happens here, but it looks like the internal downsampling of InDesign CS6 is not very good.
When i write a PostScript file of the brochure and put it in Distiller (with the same PDF Preset as above), the image looks like the one made with Photoshop. So this problem has to lie somwhere deep in InDesign or it's settings.
    Anybody with similar experiences?

Something about your test looks off. The export from ID and export from PS PDFs are both zoomed at 1200%, but the export from ID vrsion is 90% smaller.
Yeah I noticed that I actually had the image in InDesign scaled @ 90%, so the effective ppi was around 650.  I get the same jagged results when I use anything other than a 300 or 600 effective ppi.  Whereas if I use a 650ppi image in Photoshop and export to PDF, it downsamples smoothly.
    Rob Day wrote:
The diagonal lines in your test are 1 pixel so at 300ppi to an offset press at 150lpi, the lines would be less than a halftone dot so I'm pretty sure you would need a loupe to see any difference. Maybe with a stochastic screen there would be better resolution but still difficult to see. So if the printing is that good I would just export without down sampling. With disk space running at 15 cents a gigabyte there's not much to gain with a downsample.
It becomes noticeable with some images more than others, but I'm printing a lot of images of buildings and drawings with sharp lines that converge to a point, or are distinguishable in the full size image but indistinguishable when downsampled.  This can introduce distracting patterns when they aren't downsampled smoothly, something like this:
Unfortunately the printers near me aren't very good, so I'm having things printed online, and this particular printer (blurb.com - for a small job) won't accept large PDFs without compressed/downsampled images :/  I'm making 300dpi versions of the really crucial images for the time being, but I'm hoping there is a better solution!
The other issue is exporting the PDF for use on the web, either as a download or on an online PDF viewer like issuu.com.  The two PDFs on the right side of my test look much better in these situations.  Is there any disadvantage to using Distiller to make my PDFs for this purpose using the Device Independent setting?  I don't have any special interactive elements.

  • CS4 crashes when I send to print and pen tool loses the ability to keep the attributes of a multi-stroked line.

Using Illustrator CS4 (can't upgrade because the office I am contracted with will not upgrade) on a Mac running Mavericks 10.9.5 (just upgraded from 10.6). CS4 crashes when I send to print (I've been saving as a PDF and printing that). Also, the pen tool loses the ability to keep the attributes of a multi-stroked line.

Thanks, Larry. I should have remembered the "…Basic Appearance…" thingy. I've tutored enough people in Illustrator—it just never occurred to me. As for the printer, I'll give that a shot. I'll fumble my way around in that; not sure exactly how to go about doing it, but I'm game. Thank you for your help.   — Jim

  • Objects missing when exporting to PDF, but show up when printing to PDF

Hi - I'm working with someone, both of us in InDesign CS4, and she has some documents that cause a few random objects to just go missing when exported to PDF (same on my computer). But when printing to PDF, they show up fine. They also show up fine if we recreate each individual object, but that can end up being a lot of work. She prefers to export to PDF because of quality. I'm drawing a blank on this one!
The attached file shows the issue. The green blocks just don't want to show up when exporting.

    Peter -
The links are just the PDFs of the black and white portions and don't really matter too much since they show up fine when exporting or printing to PDF. Our main concern is the green blocks, which are indeed the green areas of the plan you pointed out. They are actually separate objects created directly within InDesign that can be moved and adjusted.
I just updated to 6.0.4 and that didn't help. I wonder if this may be a variant of the bugs I was reading about with master pages and certain things not showing up when creating PDFs or printing (even though none of these things are on the master page)?
    Thanks

You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

  • Why are the images on my screen in InDesign so crisp/clear and when I export to PDF to print they are blurry?

Top Picture is while the program, bottom is when exported as a PDF

    Hi Kathdepew,
You are checking the PDF in Preview, please look it at Adobe Reader/Acrobat. Preview is not a recommended soft-proofing application.
Also, check you PDF export settings, it seems the images are being down-sampled. To know better, export the PDF with "High quality presets" and then check.
