Suppress select audio frequency

I have an old cassette tape-recording, recorded from the BBC radio.  I have recorded it in garageband, but the original recording had a high-pitched whistle, caused, I think, by noise from a nearby TV.  Many people would remember that annoying whistle that we used to get on radio from local TVs. Does anyone know what that frequency is, and how I could supress it in GB?  The visual EQ window only seems to allow adjustment of a broad band of frequenies.  Thanks, Keith

Hi isteveus, thank you for this informqtion.  How do I access AUGraphic EQ please?  I think your estimate of the frequency is about right, as to me it is high-pitch, but still audible.  As I am now 70 I doubt if I can still hear any higher sounds - not like the 22 kHz of my youth!  Keith

  • Audio Frequency Spectrum

    Hi,
I'm looking for an FCE feature (3.5), or a Soundtrack feature (1.5) that allows to display the audio +frequency spectrum+ of a selection of an audio clip. My purpose is to analyze frequencies for a section of audio (e.g. a voice or a noise), identify a frequency range to fix, and modify its gain by using the standard FCE +3 Band Equalizer+ filter or the +AUGraphic EQ+ filter (or others).
I can already use these 2 filters, but without a preliminary analysis of the spectrum I have to guess the frequency ranges. Of course the best solution would be to have a dynamic real time display, during audio playback... (BTW iTunes has something like that in the top center of the main window: it's just missing precision and details about frequency values, and dBs... - not really useful).
I found something close to my needs in Audacity: the problem is that it is not integrated with FCE and that it is a static display. Or at least this is what it seems to me... I might have missed something.
Does an audio frequency spectrum display exist in FCE HD, or in the bundled Soundtrack ?
    Thanks a lot
    Piero
(since I didn't find any mention of this kind of display in this forum or in the Soundtrack forum - frequency or spectrum search do not return any topic - does this mean I'm looking for something that does not make sense... ? or are there other ways to do what I'd like and I described above ?)

    Thanks Ian and Tom.
Yes, the Fourier Spectrum Analysis is what I need, and Sound Studio is providing it. I'm trying to figure out how to make the best use of it. In fact I hope there is a way to display it in real time, so I can see the frequency picks moving. That would be very helpful.
In any case thanks for your help.

  • Error message: "the previously selected audio interface is not available"

    HELP?!?!?!?!?
I'm stuck, and I can't go forward. Here's my issue:
I've bought a Focusrite Saffire LE, a simple firewire audio interface, for use with my Logic Express 7 (with all the latest updates). I run the setup assistant and select my saffire as the audio interface to use, and then when logic runs I get the message "the previously selected audio interface is not available" and it defaults to my Macbook Pro's internal microphone and speakers.
Just for sanity I've tested the audio interface with garageband and it's fine. My other audio apps aso run fine using the saffire as the audio interface. The setup assistant for logic has no problem finding the saffire, so why does it get rejected as soon as logic starts?!?!?
Please - this is driving me crazy.

I asked Focusrite for some help, and they said it should work (which I knew) and made some suggestions. Here's their email:
"Saffire LE should work fine in Logic Express.
Try resetting your logic preferences. Go to Logic > preferences > initialise all except key commands.
Do you still have the same problem?
Do you have any other firewire devices attached?
Have you had any other interfaces installed in the past?"
All good suggestions, but so far no luck.
Has someone else got the same config as me? (15" Macbook Pro and focusrite saffire le)?

  • Selecting audio output from iPhone - bluetooth or dock?

    Hi
I have a problem selecting audio output on my iPhone 3GS with my incar system
    Set up:
Dension ipod dock connected direct to CD changer port on Radio
    Bury Bluetooth hands free device.(CC9060)
My preferred option is to have the Dension play my audio.
However when I turn on the iPod function on the iPhone, the audio defaults to the Bury hands free system and tried to stream the audio via bluetooth which the phone cannot do.
On the bottom right of the screen on the iPhone, I see a speaker icon - I click on this and I get the option to select the iPod Dock or the CC 9060 (Which is the Bury Hands free)
I can select the iPod dock and teh audio plays fine, however, how to I force the iPhone to always use the iPod dock and not the Bury hands free.
From what I can tell, its not the Bury which is forcing teh choice - its the iPhone, but I cannot see anywhere where there is an option to choice the iPod dock as the default audio device.
    Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Glenn

    Found a quite probable fix.
I've took my dock station under big lens and noticed a stuck contact -- they are supposed to be somewhat movable. So I pick a real small screwdriver and unstuck the contact.
    Issue is apparently gone.

  • How to get audio frequency

    hello
    This is sudhakar
working as a programmer on Java
now we are implementing audio recording and playing..
but here we are facing one problem..
    that is .
how to get the audio frequency...that is pitch but
it variate the pitch which during the play...
if any sample code please send them..
    j.sudhakar

If you want to implement an amplifier like most Players have,
that's not that easy. You will have to look for "Discrete Fourier Analysis" I think. You will have to deal with imaginary values (that is the square root of -1), if you want to write the functions up from the scratch.
Perhaps there are some prewritten function, you can use.
    Good luck

  • FS7 audio Frequency Response 50Hz - 20KHz?

Hello guys, I'd like to point out an issue that I couldn't find on the forum regarding the audio frequency response.I've always worked with pro camcorders that recorded 20Hz to 20KHz, which is the standard frequency us humans can hear. So I was surprised when I saw in the FS7 manual that the audio Frequency Response is 50Hz to 20KHz. Is this a typo? Or is the camera actually limited to 50Hz for the lower freqencies?I would assume that the internal mic would be limited to that range, yes, but not the internal recording of the sound? Why limit the camera to 50Hz? Any light on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks!

The tests I posted are for the mic inputs, not line inputs. I did test both, but since I often run & gun and cannot support all the extra gear to make the FS7 mic inputs on  a par with Sony's EX3 mic inputs, I'm requesting that the high pass filter added with firmware 2.0 be removed in futre updates. We have the wind filter already. No additional filter is needed. While Genelec monitors are pretty good, they're not noted for deep bass response. Most studios use the ubiquitous NS10, which are only good to 80hz, which is why few people notic the deficiency. The custom built system in my screening room has a -3dB point of 7hz. I noticed that even piano sounds thin on this camera. that doesn't surprise me,  since the rolloff starts at 200hz. All I'm asking for is the same quality I'm used to with my EX3's mic inputs. Only 0.5dB down @ 20hz and no thinning of the midrange. When I do large budget orchestra shoots (rare) I use 24/96 sampling, 8 channels and large diaphragm studio condensers. My recordings earned critical praise from Peter Aczel at The Audio Critic. I was a sound engineer for 4 decades before I got my first digital camera. In addition to that, I was consulted as an independent expert on infrasonics for chapter 17 of Ethan Winer's THE AUDIO EXPERT, published by Focal Press. I was responsible for the information on subwoofers and how they operate. Acoustic and speaker design share a long history with me, and my 'day job' is amplifier design, modification and repair. I'm too intimately aware of what's going on in the signal path of an audio system and when modern digital systems deviate intentionally from DAT-quality, it really bothers me. I made a big deal about this in 2007 with the Sony HVR-V1U, and Sony must have listened, because they got it right with the EX1 and EX3 cameras. But sadly, they've reverted to these games with the FS7, though not as badly as 2007.

  • Unable to+decode+or+import+selected+audio

Looking for a solution.  I am running windows 7, adobe captivate 4.  I have attempted to convert text to speech, I get the error unable to+decode+or+import+selected+audio.  I have gone to the supplied library same error.  I have taken a mp3, changed it to 16 bit rate, made the file very small same error.  I am running out of options.  I have also reinstalled captivate.  I also have CS5 running on the machine.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Re-install the Neo-speech installer and try the workflow.
    Regards,

  • Selected audio and video devices may not match

Hello - I was able to Print to Video w/no problem, from my Mac Book Pro, to my Panasonic PV-GS320 w/no problem. Now, all of a sudden, when trying to do this, I get this msg.:
'The selected audio and video devices may not match. Please verify that the a/v outputs are externally routed to the intended device(s).'
Not sure what happened, or what changed, but here is my setup:
Sequence & Capture Presets are both: DV NTSC 48 kHz
    Device control preset: FireWire Basic
Video Playback: Apple Firewire NYSC (720 x 480)
    Audio Playback: Default
Like I said, I don't know what got changed, but, it was working before - hope someone can help, thanks so much!!
    Kristina

I think I found the problem...I had forgotten to switch my Device Control Preset back to FireWire, from the previous non-controllable - thanks so much!

  • ... Separate/select audio channels ...

Is it possible to select audio channel for monitoring ?
I have some footage with interview and the journalist need to listen only channel 1 (microphone) and mute the channel 2 (camera built in microphone).
As the same in XDCAM Transfer.
    Thanks

Final Cut Server (and XDCAM Transfer) aren't set up to adjust what has been recorded (there's not even a volume control).
Just open the computer's Sound system preference pane and pan the output all the way to the left.
Of course if you are going through a mixer you can just mute channel 1, or if you're wearing earphones take the one out of your right ear...

  • M Audio firewire solo with yosemite - 'The previously selected audio interface is not available'.

Hi, I recently bought a new mac mini with yosemite OS. I plugged in my M-audio firewire solo and (after a bit of trouble) finally managed to see it appear in GB. then moments later a dialogue box appears with 'The previously selected audio interface is not available'.
There doesn't appear to be any update drivers from M-Audio and the CD that came with the interface also does not work?
I can't find any information with this problem. Can any one help?

Oops. . . A loose lead connection may have been the problem, although still not receiving a signal?

  • Get Total Duration/Length of Selected Audio Files

    Hi there,
How can I create an AppleScript that adds the total length/duration selected audio files.
I know how I can get the duration of a single file, doing this:
    set a to choose file
do shell script "afinfo "&quoted form of (posix path of a)&"|grep duration"
But I wanted to have the total length, if possible in minutes, of all selected audio files.

There are numerous approaches, but since you've already started with afinfo, I'll keep with that.
The first step is to extract the actual duration from the afinfo output:
set duration to (word -2 of (do shell script "/usr/bin/afinfo " & quoted form of (POSIX path of a) & "|grep duration")) as number
now you can just wrap this in a loop, adding up the numbers as you go. This will end up with a total number of seconds, and a little math gets you the minutes:seconds format:
    -- initialize our counter:
    set total_duration to 0
-- note you can now select multiple files
set file_list to choose file with multiple selections allowed
    -- and loop through them
    repeat with each_file in file_list
              try
set this_duration to (word -2 of (do shell script "/usr/bin/afinfo " & quoted form of (POSIX path of each_file) & "|grep duration")) as number
                        set total_duration to total_duration + this_duration
              end try
    end repeat
-- now convert your seconds to minutes:
    set num_minutes to total_duration div 60
set num_seconds to total_duration mod 60 as integer
    display dialog "Total duration is " & num_minutes & ":" & (text -2 through -1 of ("0" & num_seconds))

  • Mac OSX 10.8.2 Core Audio Frequency Selection Bug

Have posted a youtube video of the problem with details of the issue. http://youtu.be/j2jljzDTBaU
    Anyone got a resolution?
    Thanks, J

After working on this case with a senior apple tech firstly I have to say I'm very impressed with their ownership and support. We've narrowed the problem down to the USB 3.0 Hub. I've replaced it with a Belkin 7 port powered USB 2.0 HUB F5U237 rev 3 and I can now switch frequencies all day long if I like Now I dont know if the problem is related to this particular Targus Hub or the Macbook Pro's USB 3.0? I'd still like this resolved as I'd like to be able to use the USB 3.0 Hub for HDD USB 3.0

  • My software will not let me "cut" selected audio

I am running windows 8...Lenovo computer...plenty of disk space etc.
I used the following activation code to install Adobe Audio 3.0 on this computer.
    -------------------- [removed]
Installation process went fine...but when I open up a file to edit,...I select the portion of the audio I want to "cut" but when I right click or go to the edit menu, the CUT option is not highlighted so I am unable to select it.
Do I have a corrupt file?  Do I need to Re-install?
    What is going on?
    Thank You for your help.

These are public forums, so I have removed the serial number and phone number you included in your post.
Did you have an earlier registered license for Audition 3, before installing on your new system?

  • Changing Audio Frequency/Format

    Hi,
I have video with 48KHz and 32 bit audio, and an external audio source (clip mic recorded onto a digital voice recorder) with 44.1KHz 16-bit audio.
Is there a way I could change the frequency and/or bitrate within Final Cut (or elsewhere) so I can sync the video and external audio with ease?
    Thanks!
    Rob

if you have Final Cut Pro you have automatically have Quicktime Player Pro and if you have Final Cut Studio (from FCP5 I think) you also have Soundtrack Pro.
But iTunes can do this also for you...

  • Marking in and out only selects audio.  I need both

I'm sure this is very fundamental but I can't figure it out.
I've been editing a lot of home movies this weekend when suddenly my IN and OUT buttons are behaving differently in the time line. They are only selecting (affecting) the two audio tracks and not affecting the video track. Why?

Make sure the VIDEO tab is connected in the Timeline patchbay for the track where you want the video to go.
