Supprise Formatting got rid of Photos- Any chance of recovery?

I acciddentally formatted my mothers' iPhone, therefore I lost my pictures. Beforehand, an attempt to save a back up actually failed, I didnt pay attention I must admit...but surely there is a file that stores this information on, even if its only a temp or cache file, so I can get them back?
What I dont get also is why some of the photos are actually saved on the iPhone, 19 were kept by the iPhone and the 180+ were deleted.
(The iPhone is a 8G 3G model)

Where do you have the original photos that you put into the iPhoto library? As long as they are still in your Pictures folder then all is not lost. As for recovering the iPhoto Library file see the following:
Basics of File Recovery
Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Daughter lost all contacts and pictures. She is crushed...Any chance for recovery?

        MeAndCoke,
So sorry to hear she has lost all her contacts like that. Sounds like you are saying the device completed a factory reset on it's own. Is that right? I'm afraid unless the contacts and media were backed up somewhere prior to this happening they would be gone. Let's prevent that from occurring in the future and protect your contacts and media! You can set up backup Assistant Plus Contacts to back up your contacts: http://vz.to/1s5IAzj . Use our cloud service to back up your media: http://vz.to/1s5IDv5 .

To save space on iCloud, I got rid of my Photos app. How do I get it back? I am using Mavericks OS.

This is nothing to do wth iCloud, you deleted part of the OS X system files/apps, you need to reinstall to get it back.
In future DO NOT delete any of the apps that come with OS X.

  • TS3991 A Pages document in the cloud corrupt - any chance of recovery?

I have been using Pages on my iPad with iCloud syncing enabled, it worked reasonably well for me until today. When I tried to access one of the documents on my Mac and download it from iCloud.com, I got a notice that there is some sort of version conflict and I should pick one of two possible versions to keep. I selected the more recent one, after which I received a message that the document can't be downloaded. I rushed back to my iPad to open the document and copy it somewhere, but alas, the change had already synced back to the iPad and now I can't access the document on the iPad as well. My last idea was to open Pages for Mac (which I have but rarely use, I'm more of a Word guy) to see if the document hadn't been saved there. The iCloud menu shows all of my documents, this time with file sizes as well, but the problematic one is only 2 KB in size (others are 20x bigger) and of course refuses to open. Something very bad happened to the document, I don't know how, but it was a very important document and if there's no way I can restore it, I'll get very mad at Apple and the whole iCloud "convenience". Is there any way to restore the document to its previous state?

What and where is the iCloud backup zone? Can you please describe that for me?

  • [Solved]Accidently rm'ed my home folder. Any chance of recovery?

Hey, I just removed my home folder with rm. This was on purpose, as I was planning to mound another partition as my home folder. However, I forgot that that partition was mounted inside of home when I ran the command.
I have most of my data backed up, but I'd rather not have to reinstall the system to get the config files back, on which I spent a fair amount of time.
Any way to get the stuff back?

Luckily (or perhaps not), I am unmarried, so that, at least, will not be a problem.
extundelete missed a lot of the bigger files (movies and music), but it looks like it got all of the config files that I was worried about.  Probably not the best serious recovery tool for getting back large personal files on a lost disk, but it worked well for what I wanted.  Photorec was able to get a lot more, but it wasn't sorted the way I had it, and it's nothing that I particularly miss, given that I am pretty good about backup of my personal data.

I did not use ICloud or any storage and did not make any sync before.
Is there any Trash Can in Iphone in order to find them? I am dumb and I did not think about save them before connect to PC.

Your photos are gone.  They were wiped when you restored your phone.  There is no "trash can".
You obviously don't understand how to use the iPhone properly.  Attached is a link to the iPhone User guide.  I suggest you read through it to avoid data loss in the future.

  • Any chance I can recover the photos and other things on iPad after installing iOS7

After installing iOS7, my photos, all apps/games had gone.  I can see the photos from a data recovery programme but couldn't recover them.  Any chance that I can restore the previous version and recover all the data?
I didn't back up as I have changed laptop recently too, so the last back up time was long time ago.

I updated on iPad.  As I had new laptop, so I didn't back up anything on the new laptop, the old one was long time ago, so photos taken recenlty had all gone.  I can see the photos from a data recovery programme (trial) but is there any way to recover them without buying the programme?

    >> It would be a great help while browsing, Thanks!

    It's not the router.
I have several pre-Intel Macs with 10.4.11 and most were fairly fast machines in their day. We also have 50MBps cable internet. All our G-series Macs are "dial-up sluggish" with anything on the web regardless of browser, yet running a download speed test shows they a connecting at a fast rate.
Watch the browser status bar during page loads--I think there is a clue there. All the bacjground ad sharing and tracking stuff---google analytics is a heavy hitter--are apparently not optimized for the G-series and much of what you are waiting on is that type of third-party dreck phoning home. You can't fix it--web developers embed this stuff. Money, ya know!
The browser TenFour Fox tend to stall less than Safari or FireFox on the older Macs. It somehow tricks websites to seeing it as an Intel Mac version of FireFox. Still not blazing fast but a big improvment.

  • Any chance that Aperture 3 soon will support the RAW format files from Leica V-lux 3?

Any chance that Aperture 3 soon will support the RAW format files from Leica V-lux 3?

Were all just users here no Apple employees so no one can say (and if Apple was here they wouldn't say either)'
It's just not the type of information Apple gives out. You can go  to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to let them know you want his camera included. But when that will happen is anyone's guess.
One strategy you can use for the time being is to shoot RAW + JPG (assuming the camera has this mode) and import both as a RAW+JPG pair making the JPG the master. Then when the RAW support comes out you can switch and make the RAW the master and process the file.
There are other ways to deal with this until the camera is supported. Post back for more info.

Removing strange software can be a task.  The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item.  Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall.  Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on removing software and dealing with spyware and malware.
After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software.  This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon.  After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon.  Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.

  • Had to erase HD, is there any chance in recovering iPhoto photos

Had to erase my hard drive and was unable to back up, is there any chance I can recover iphoto photos? I was able to copy most of my hard drive to an external but am unable to locate if there were any photos that made it.

File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

When I went and connected my phone to my laptop and hit restore and it got rid of everything my photos my contacts everything and I don't know how to get the stuff back and if you need to know I have an IPhone4S

I take it you were replacing an older iPhone and this was the first time you plugged it in? If so, that's what happens. It restored the backup of your old phone. A backup of the current phone is not made in those circumstances.
If that's not what happened, you need to clarify.
