  • Password vs. SureType = INSECURE in AppWorld 3.1.0.56 (BlackBerry ID?)

I downloaded AppWorld 3.1.0.56 and successfully updated BlackBerry ID.  (No problems there, unlike for many others here).
However, now when I log into AppWorld (maybe this is actually BlackBerry ID?) the password field shows up in clear text (even when the "Show password" box is not checked).  Not the most amazing from a security point of view, but much more annoying is that since it displays in clear text, SureType tries to be clever about turning the password into an English word.
Choosing actual words for a password is also a bad idea, and in fact I have chosen passwords for all accounts I use on BB to use only numbers or the leftmost of two letters so that I can type them pressing each button once (with ALT for the numbers) - but that only works if SureType is not enabled (and generally for passwords, SureType is disabled and multi-click mode is used).
As an added insecurity bonus, I suspect that at some point I might end up teaching SureType to recognize my password, meaning that it will show up in its dictionaries - also not good.
When will RIM fix this problem for SureType phones (ideally including the touchscreen ones in SureType mode but I would be happy with a fix for just Pearl)?  The password field should have a conventional *****x password display where only the most recent character is visible for a second, in multi-click mode, with SureType turned off by default.  The current mode is insecure (even on non-SureType phones, clear-text password display is a bad idea) and extremely annoying for SureType users.

I've heard nothing in over a month, so I checked to see if there was a new version of BBAW.  I downloaded 3.1.0.60, but still have no icon!  Can't somebody help?!

  • Can't get "suretype" to stay on

When I am texting or sending a BBM I have to reset my touch screen to "suretype" every time. I have a torch 9800 and prefer to use a reduced keyboard in portrait and suretype is much easier to use.

If this doesn't help, then there may be something else at play. What OS version are you running on your phone? To get this info, go to Options > Device > About Device Versions. Its the number listed after the v (e.g. 6.0.0.526). I'll check to see if this issue has been reported for others on the same OS, or will see if there is an OS upgrade that is available that may help.
Alternately, you can reload the software on your device. To do this, follow the steps in the following link and assuming that the problem is a software issue (which I expect it to be), this will get you back up and running:

  • Texting on iPhone - SureType hack/app?

So as some of you know, the iPhone is finally coming to Canada and I've been holding out and waiting so I don't have to mess with unlocking one. The LG Vu has just been launched on Rogers and raised a couple questions as far as txting goes, I haven't found much info when I googled it...
Is Qwerty the only layout option to text with? Is there a T9 option? Lastly, is it possible with the ability to write new native apps now, that someone could write something that would allow a SureType typing layout like a Blackberry Pearl?
The reason I'm asking is I've had a Pearl for about a year and a half and LOVE the keyboard, but it's inevitable I'll be getting the iPhone. I have fat fingers though and love the SureType layout. I know the Vu has the T9 option and I see the new HTC's are getting SureType, any possibility of adding this to iPhone anytime soon?

This link should answer some of your questions.

I guess anything is possible with 3rd party software as long as it meets Apple's approval.

  • I cannot change my input language from multitap to suretype.

I've tried going to language under device options and switching the input language, but under input language options there is English (United Kingdom) and English (United States), no "ensure multitap" or "ensure suretype." I tried going to the body of a text message and email and opening the menu and clicking on "change input language" but once again my options are English (United Kingdom) and English (United States), no "ensure multitap" or "ensure suretype." I also tried going to the body of a text message or email and holding the * key for 2 to 3 seconds and still nothing happened.
I just got this new phone two days ago and when I inserted the battery and turned it on it was on suretype. This is what I wanted. Last night I locked the phone when I went out to dinner and when I unlocked it after dinner I went to reply to a text and it was in multitap mode although I never changed it. Now I can't change it back. Please help!
    [email protected]

To switch from multitap to suretype and vice versa you need to be in a field where you can type text.  Then hit the menu key and select "Enable SureType" or "Enable MultiTap."

  • Disabling certain SureType words on the 8220

Anyone know if there is a way to disable certain SureType suggested words?  In general I like SureType.  It has made my SMSing much faster and I usually do a whole message without looking at the screen and then go back and proofread before sending.
Where is the thing coming up with some of its words, though?  I regularly SMS my wife and in so doing, I use the word "sweetie" a lot.  It seems that for a long time, the device came up with "sweetie" as the primary choice and everything was fine.  Lately it has come up with the word "sweetir" EVERY TIME and I have to go back and choose the word I actually want.  Come on!  Is "sweetir" even a word?  And even if it is, isn't the device supposed to learn which words a person is using more frequently and start using them?  Why isn't mine doing this?  It is getting really annoying and it would be nice to remove this made-up word from any dictionary the phone is using.
    Thanks for any help, anyone.

Ummm... no, it won't. You CANNOT type the words "Acura" or "Lexus". Mashing fingers? Deliberate and slow key presses will not let you type the words. For "Lexus", you CANNOT TYPE THE "U". For "Acura", you CANNOT TYPE THE "R".
Try it! Try even skimming over the keyboard (hold down your finger to go over different letters" after typing "Lex", and you will find that you will not get the option to type the "u". A similar situation exists for "Acura".
I'm running the latest software- is it different with an earlier version?

  • SURETYPE DISABLES ITSELF!! 8110

Tried posting this on another blackberry forum to no avail:
I've discovered my SureType disappears only after typing emails! When writing texts its there and for the initial email its there, but once its sent my SureType goes away even though under language input options the box is still checked!
    More background:
I have the latest OS version and have verified my suretype box is checked in the application loader on my blackberry desktop assistant.
Sometimes when typing messages (including in messenger) or e-mails (NOT when in the browser or entering passowrds) my suretype suddenly disables! No warning at all, I've checked my options- language settings millions of times and turned my phone on and off, connected it to my pc over and over, but the problem still occurs
The only solution I've found is to "fake out" my blackberry by going to options- language and changing it to English (rather than English-US) then the Input langauge to English US Multitype from simply English US THEN ensuring the predictive text box is checked under input options THEN I have to return my language settings all back to English US and resave it (YES I return my input language back FROM English US multi to simply English US)-
My solutions only works for 5 e-mails or texts before the suretype disables itself AGAIN despite all the language settings saying otherwise...what's wrong with my phone? It's only a month old- This is so frustrating especially when it happens unexpectedly and im in a rush to type-
SO long story short even though all indications point to suretype being enabled and functioning-I am at the will of my blackberry as to whether it actually works out-

Hi there ,  I looked into the different ways you can use your Notebook to see if the function of putting the HP ENVY x360 on its side in Laptop Mode was possible.I found a document called HP ENVY x360 Convertible PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. If you take a look under External component identification on page 7, you will see that it gives you three modes that this particular model can be used in. I also found that the tilt sensors and dock are not going to allow you to use this particular Notebook in the function that you would like because it is a model that allows you to have tablet capabilities.  I want to thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums.  Have a great day!

  • Does my new Curve have suretype?

I think suretype is the term I'm looking for, if not, please forgive me.  I just got a bb pearl flip.  I'm not crazy about texting on the pearl but really like the suretype.  Does the curve have this feature? I thought it did when I first got it a few days ago, but might be mistaking...  If it does have suretype or what ever it's called that gives you a list of words.
    Thanks again, mimi

  • SureType spelling priority: can and van

I have a Pearl 8130.  SureType prioritizes "van" over "can" in automatic spelling.  This is just plain wrong.
I tried putting "can" in the custom dictionary (in hopes of getting it to have priority over "van") but it rejects that because "can" is already in its dictionary.  This is driving me crazy.  Does anyone either know how to fix this or to submit what is clearly a bug report to RIM without having to resort to "pay per incident" tech support?
    Thanks,
    - bill.

I had the same issue with 'as' and 'St'.  What I did was type a,s a few times.  Each time I would get the options to pick from.  After about 3 or 4 times picking 'as', it became the default.  That's how Suretype 'learns', I guess.
I hope it works for you!

  • Text input options missing

I update the software on my pearl so that I could send and receive mms msgs figured out how to turn off the auto text before but now it wont turn off I am so used to typing the old way how do turn this feature off it takes me to long to text.

    Maybe this is helpful:
When in editing mode and only then, e.g. when the cursor is within the text area of an SMS or when editing a name in the address book, you may switch between the two typing methods "Multitap" and "SureType":
How to? When in editing mode, select function menu (using key left of track ball) and in this menu scroll down to Enable Multitap / Enable SureType. The one currently active is shown. Mark it and select by pressing the trackball. This changes the mode and gets you directly back into the edit area, precisely at the cursor position you were before.
There are add on applications which do not provide access to this switching although they need and offer alphanumeric entries. (I have this Vodafone Navigator which drives me nuts when entering street names with SureType on). Unfortunately then, temporarily I have to enter any BB editing application, switch typing mode there and the come back to that application.
    Try this and good luck!

on one side, you have your device. Its OS needs to be at least 4.5.

I would get the curve 8330, keep in mind its not a computer, its  a BlackBerry.  Yes you can open websites, but it will not work as smoothly as a browser on your computer. Might be easier to type for you.
If someone helped you give them kudos. Research all info!

  • Re: SD Service

    Dear all,
Urgently require advice on configuration and how to achieve the desire results.
    The scenario is like this:
    1. The company is selling a service to a customer. (Create a Sales Order)
    2. The company then found out they do not have the capability to provide the service required, so external procurement is required (trigger a creation of PR through Schedule Line Item).
    3. Then create a Purchase Order wrt to the PR created automatically through the Sales Order.
    4. Then create a Service Entry Sheet with reference to the PO.
    5. Perform a MIRO for the service once accepted and completed.
The problem now is that, the configuration for the Schedule Line Item is facing such complications: -
    1. If the Schedule Line is configured with Item Category = Service and Acct Assignment Category = 3rd Party Service, during the creation of Sales Order, I hit an error where I am unable to enter a Material Number, and as such, unable to determine a suitable Item Category to trigger the Schedule Line.
    2. If the Schedule Line is configured with Item Category = Third Party and Acct Assignment Category = 3rd Party Service, material is allowed to be maintained, and PR is created automatically once Sales Order is saved, but the PR is created with reference to Item Category that is relevant for material (not service) and as such, no service entry sheet creation is possible.
Please advice in details how to achieve the scenario mentioned above via configuration.
    Thanks.
    Best rgds.

lol, wait a minute.. you got it off your brother. ok. It is always nice to have all the information.
So, no matter what SIM you place in the 9520, the internet and stuff works, but no phone calls can be made.
Are you using a SIM of the same service provider as the device is branded to?
Is the device unlocked for using on a carrier other than the one to which it was branded?
To determine if your BlackBerry is already "unlocked" or not:
    1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.
    2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.
        * If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx, 81xx, 91xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.
    3. Look for Network in the list.
    4. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier.
