Surface on windows 8.1 + external display

I am using the Surface Pro as a 3rd screen to 2 x 22" monitors. The problem I am having is that if I dock the surface, my menu bars on the external monitors display large, while appearing normal on the Surface screen. I figured out that this was due
to display magnifying the menu items to a 150%. When I go to Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Display, I have an option to change the size of all items to smaller. This option works out well for the external display, but makes
the surface screen unusable.
Is there any way to have "Change the size of all items" only change it to smaller or larger on one specific screen? That was my expectation for this feature, since I also get a checkmark option to "Let me choose one scaling level for all my
displays", but it does not seem to be working. The only work around I currently have is to change the surface resolution to something lower.

Hi,
If I remember correctly that is a problem related to changing the Text Size to one of the below options.
Medium - 125%. This sets text and other items to 125% of normal size.
Larger - 150%. This sets text and other items to 150% of normal size. This option appears only if your monitor supports a resolution of at
least 1200 x 900 pixels.
If you change this does it work then?

  • MacBook Air - windows 7 / Bootcamp - External Display NOT WORKING

I run Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on a 9/2011 MacBook Air, how can I run an external display? Settings only give single display option there seems to be no way to either just display on an external display or to extend to an external display. Is this a bug?

You also may want to post in the Boot Camp forum, there may be some MBA users that can help you.

  • External display won't work on Window

Hi can anyone please help me in this? when I using window XP, my external display won't display out but when I'm using MAC OS X it work well, why? please help... Thanks

I can only help if you are using an NVidia graphics card, as with that you can use the NVidia Control Panel to setup the external display.
    Connect the display
    Start NVidia Control panel
    Select the Display icon
    Then select Change Display Configuration
There you can set the resolution, extend the screen or create a copy et.c.
    Hope that helps...

  • Satellite A300-202 - External display turned a strange color

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A300-202 with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650, and after upgrade from vista to windows 7, my external display turned a strange color, seemed to lose the red color. Never show the white color, in which should show the white color shows the color blue.
I have uninstalled and installed again the graphic card drivers and update the new drivers but dont solved this trouble. My external monitor it's ok because I have tried with other laptop and don't have this trouble. I have also tried my laptop with other monitor and have the same trouble.
Anybody ever had this problem, someone who can help me?
    Thanks,

    Hi Xardas,
Yes I have problems only with the external monitor.
I tried both. Now I have the new beta version to the windows 7 64bits, downloaded from the amd/ati site, but I have tried also with the version available in the toshiba drivers page to my A300-202, and had the same problem.
Yes I have installed the new version of the BIOS too.

  • No external display through thunderbolt on 10.6.8

Ok so I have a 2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) and I use a mini displayport to HDMI adapter to connect to my tv or external monitor. It used to work fine (a few months ago) but now it doesn't do anything when I plug it in, but when I pull it out the screen flashes blue for a second. This is all under 10.6.8. I triple boot this machine and under 10.7 and Windows 7 the external display works fine. It also works fine with a 2009 MBP 5,5 that is running 10.6.8. The only difference I see is that the 09 MBP is actually mini displayport whereas the newer has thunderbolt and under 10.7 there was an EFI update and I think a thunderbolt update that wasn't offered under 10.6. My question is can I somehow get the external working under 10.6 with a software tweak/fix?

Thanks - this thread does address the MPEG problem but I still have no sound whatsoever on any program or the system. If I try to preview a music file in the finder with no other program open there is no sound as it won't play. iTunes just crashes when opening with this error:

  • Connection to external display does not work under windows bootcamp, with a thunderbolt to vga adapter.

Hello guys, after searching a lot in the forum for an answer to this, I could not find a solution so this is the reason for this post.
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011 I think) running MacOSX Lion and I have installed Windows 7 64-bit through bootcamp (version 4.0).
Everything works fine except that I cannot connect my external display through my thunderbolt-vga adapter.
The external monitor shows only the boot screen of windows (the one with the windows logo) and then, when I get into the login page it goes blank.
After reading the forum, I have done several things in order to fix this problem such as:
Restarting the macbook with the thunderbolt device connected to it.
Updated to the latest ATI drivers through bootcamp.
Removed the graphics driver and re-install it again.
I have tried to identify the external monitor through windows 'screen resolution' tool (attached photo).
    but still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea on what else I could do in order to fix this? By the way, I find it very frustrating that Apple does not have a stable solution to the problem with devices that are connected to the thunderbolt port.
    Thank you in advance

and here is the attached screenshot

  • MacBook Pro cannot connect to external display (projector) under Windows

Our office has got one of those lovely new 13" MacBook Pros and we cannot figure out why it cannot connect to either of our 2 projectors with Windows 7.
We have an older MBP with NVidia graphics that connects just fine under both OS X and Windows. And this machine connects fine under Snow Leopard.
There was a recent Thunderbolt chipset update and we applied that; on the Windows side the Intel driver has been updated but nothing happens. Have also zapped the PRAM to no effect.
To add another wrinkle: I just connected the MBP to my Cinema Display and the external display shows fine in both OS X and Windows--Windows didn't even require me to go to the control panel.
This leads me to two thoughts: either it is something with the Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (hard to believe, though, since it works for OS X) or it is something to do with the native resolution of the projector (equally hard to believe, as changing through various settings in Windows NOTHING happens on the external projector--it doesn't blink, go back or anything.)
    Any ideas?

I wish I could find the discussion, but I cannot.
There was a discussion about the Windows 7 driver for the Thunderbolt port.  The conclusion I believe was that it only outputs digital signals, not analog.
    The other conclusions were:
A USB-VGA adapter adapter bypasses this limitation because the driver is in the adapter itself and works regardless of the OSX/Windows operating system in charge.
Run Windows under VM, where OSX is in charge and can create analog output through Thunderbolt
If only I could find that thread ...

  • Can I use External Display on a Window 7 64bit 13" Macbook Pro Early 2010

I have a 23" LED LG Monitor , It has VGA Cable , RCA Cable and HDMI Plug (but no wire). I am asking now if whether I should need a VGA Cable or a RCA Cable or a HDMI cable. I know there's the Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter. Should I get that? And does window 7 64bit professional bootcamp support any external display? If not , is there another way to get it working.

You should be able to hook it right up just like if it was a "normal" Windows Laptop.
Windows would be the one to set it up with. Make sure you've updated Boot Camp.
You probably should use an "Apple Mini Display" port -to- HDMI adapter as that should give you more display options, etc. (I'm not sure how high the 13" can go on resolutions, HDMI or VGA may not matter?)
You MAY have to use a separate sound cable between the laptop and monitor as some HDMI -to- (whatever) adapters don't carry the sound signal via an "adapter".
The next choice would be a Mini Display port to VGA adapter.
You may want to also ask this question in the "Computing Hardware/MacBook Pro" area as they may have more info?
    Hope this helps...

  • Safari window will disappear if dragged from a tab to an external display

Try opening a Safari window and add a new tab, then drag that new tab to the external display (e.g. Desktop 3) as a new window, it will disappear when you release the drag-and-drop.  I think this is a bug of Safari 7.0 on Mavericks 10.9.

    Two steps work-around:
    1) Drag the tab out to the same display.
    2) Then drag it again to another display.
Of course it's a bug.  Please report it to http://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html.

  • Windows 7 Bootcamp and Thunderbolt to VGA Adapters for External Displays MacBook Pro i5?

Is it possible to connect an external moniter to a MacBook Pro using a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter in Windows 7 (professional)? I have tried and tried, when booting, both moniters (both laptop and external) show the "Starting Windows" page, but the external blacks out on the user selection screen. That gives me hope... is there a driver out there that will let me use the external display in Windows 7?
    MacBook Pro
    i5, 4gig, 750gig.
    Windows 7 Pro
    Mac OSX Lion
    LG Flatron Wide
DisplayPort to VGA adapter (not apple brand, purchased on eBay).
    Thanks.

You shouldn't require a driver.  I would try booting as usual, then plugging in your external display.  In windows, you can hit "command-P" to toggle between your external display options (mirror, extend, etc.).  Once you do that, you should see the new display show up.

  • T60 2007-FUG ATI X1400 Windows 7 64-bit projector and external display problem

I have Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise on my T60. I have tried to install many different ati drivers, but nothing seems to work. I cant use a projector or external display via VGA port. I heard that if I boot with a projector then it works ok.
I have installed Ati Install Manager and so on. I have uninstalled drivers etc. I have search forums. I installed all updates from Lenovo site. BIOS is up to date. I installed X1400 driver from Windows update site. Driver date is 1.12.2008. I cant update it. Everything else works super.
    What to do?

Looking at the ATI drivers on the T60 support site, I do not see one that supports Win7....don't know if there is a plan to.
You probably have basic functionality with the Vista driver, but I would not imagine that all options will be available.
If you cannot get the external VGA port to work through the Catalyst Control Center, then I would would chalk it up to a lack of Win7 support.

  • External Display Flickering/Blanking out on Windows 8.1 Boot Camp

OK, so I have a MBP 15" Mid-2012 model running the latest versions of Mavericks and all software and drivers on Windows are up-to-date. I am using my external display through an Active HDMI adapter for Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt (one that broadcasts audio as well as video).
So, this adapter and image seems to work perfectly fine on the Mac side, however, when I flip the switch to Windows 8.1, the external display goes haywire and goes blank and flickers with occasional lines and static across the screen. Image comes back every few seconds and then will suddenly lose signal.
I've been reading around the internet and I've seen that this could be a hardware issue in that Intel never put support for Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort on their chipsets for Windows, not a driver issue.
How screwed am I? If not so screwed, what steps do I need to take to attain functionality of the external display while running Windows 8.1 through Boot Camp?
Note: my Mac does not come with an HDMI port already installed like current Macs. This was the last high-end Macbook Pro to have an optical drive installed on it.

From Tech specs for your machine MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) - Technical Specifications
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory (15-inch 2.3GHz configuration) or NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory (15-inch 2.6GHz configuration) and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
From the Intel downloads, there is a new driver for HD4000...
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProdId=3712
It may be worth a test.
    From Nvidia website...
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/77228/en-us
On a later rMBP, I can connect three displays via TB at full resolution.
One suggestion is to try a Display-miniDP cable, instead of a converted HDMI signal, if the monitor will accept a DP connection.
If it works correctly on the Mac side, it would be a driver issue, since the hardware supports it with one OS, but not the other. The effects you describe indicates that some pins on the HDMI are not getting correct signals to maintain image refresh rates or pixel sync. When you use the current connection, does the Control Panel -> Displays detect the model and name correctly? If not, the EDID detection is failing.

  • External displays - browser window position when disconnected display

I'm using a laptop, connecting one or two external displays, - one using the HDMI port, second using an USB "dock station" (Toshiba standalone). Second screen normally to the right, third screen (usb) above the laptop screen.
Often when I have disconnected the USB external display, my Firefox browser window are still "on the third display" - position as if this display was still active.
Even if I quit Firefox and restarts ( or even restarts windows ) the same position window is retained. The only way to fix it (when the USB connected display is not available), is to change the window position of the second (HDMI) display to cover the area of the USB one, then move Firefox window to my main laptop display, and then reposition the second screen back to the normal.
Normally, I expect applications to automatically reposition the windows to the available display(s) under the conditions that an extra display is removed. However, this seems not to happen with Firefox. It's inconvinient, but possible to fix with the second screen available, but I'm lost when I am not able to connect an external display ...
Is there any solution to this? Is it possible to change (reset) window positions directly in RegEdit ??

    Dear varkgirl:
Thank you very much for your help and valuable suggestion.
I've tried your suggestion but ran into some problems. The links I am trying to open in another window are actually PDF files that the viewer can download from my website.
Since I was having problems I decided to try something else. After publishing the website to my desktop I then opened the pages where the links are in Dreamweaver. The layout view is great and displayed the image just the way it appears on the browser's window. I first selected the "link button" to the file and then in the inspector windows (bottom of the page) I chose under target the "_blank" option. This tells the software that the linked page or file is to be opened in a new blank browser window. I then saved the page (re-saved it over the existing file) to incorporate the changes. After this I proceeded to navigate through the website and everything works great.
Thank you for your help and suggestions. I just thought I would post this here in case it may be of help to you as well as others.
    Best regards,
    Joseph Chamberlain

  • Thinkpad Edge S430 - Windows does not detect external display connected via HDMI

On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update.
The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager.
NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration.
Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue.
Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.

  • How do I enlarge the "presenter notes" window when running my presentation on an external display?

In the latest version of Keynote, the "Presenter Notes" window is a small horizontal field at the bottom of the presenter's computer screen.  Only 3-4 lines of text can be seen.  This means that when you have a few paragrahs of notes, you have to scroll through them as you are presenting.  This is very cumbersome.  In the previous version of Keynote you could change the relative size of the slides versus the "presenter's notes" boxes when running a presentation on an external display, but in the new version, I can't find a way of enlarging the "presenter's notes" field.
Also, in the new version, the preview slide doesn't show the initial text on the next slide if that text emerges as a "dissolve in" build when you advance forward through your slides.  I always have the initial text on my slides automatically "dissolve in" after each slide transtion.  But in the new version of Keynote, when in presenter mode, I can't see any of the text on the "next slide."  This makes it difficult to anticipate what slide comes next . . . without going to the Navigator.  Does any one have a solution for this?
    Thank you.

I figured it out with the help of a post from a few days ago.  Although posted for a different problem, I followed these steps from Cornelia-I and it worked like a charm:
You can change the link of LR to the images from the network drive to your local drive, best done on parent folder level: right-click the highest folder in library left panel, and choose update storage location. In the opening dialog window point it to your internal folder.
