Surface Pro 2 Graphics driver stops apps running

Hi,
We are having trouble with a Surface 2 Pro with Windows 8.1. Apps such as onenote, facebook and several others do not load past the splash screen(they appear open when swiping in from left).
The resolution of the tile screen appears to be lower than it should be, but all settings indicate a 1920x1080 resolution.
Disabling the graphics card fixes the problem, but causes several other undesirables. Rolling back the driver fixes the problem, but the default driver is insignificant and after every reboot/auto-update the apps stop working again. I have downloaded the
updates and service packs and manually installed the graphics driver, but the apps start to fail as soon as the graphics driver updates.
When the driver is disabled/roll backed more tiles appear on the home screen, even though the resolution is lower.
Does anyone know how i can upgrade the driver, without losing app functionality?
Regards
Chris

Hi,
I have ran all updates and it says its fully updates, and I attempted to manually install device driver 10.18.10.3345,
which I downloaded from the intel site but it was 'not accredited for the platform'.
Its the 128GB version. The problem only started after upgrading to 8.1. I'll post the event logs asap.
Thanks
Alistair Cameron

Close inactive apps in the background. No need to reset.
Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.

  • Surface Pro 3, Project Siena Apps, Need CSS for that form factor ASAP please

Now that the Surface Pro 3 is out, I really don't like the black bars that appear above and below Project Siena Apps.

  • How to stop apps running in background

I tried reinstalling MS Office 2011 but cant stop an app running in the background. It needs to stop prior to the install and I cant stop it.

    Install Basics for Office 2011
Not only should Safari be quit but all browsers and hidden Microsoft processes like the Microsoft Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent. To disable these applications:
    Log Out/In
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in and hold down the Shift key (this disables all startup items including the hidden ones)
    Restart after installing updater
Note for the MAU and MERP updaters you do NOT have to restart after updating. These are found in the root Library:
    /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/
    Why Restart?
The Restart after updater will force a file that stores the version info to update. This should happen automatically but sometimes it doesn't. The next updater will fail and you will have to re-install Office. The restart is a quick step that will save time in the long term.

  • Macbook 15" Pro Retina under Windows 8.1 is constantly overheating because of lack of Iris Pro graphics driver

This issue must have been raised many times already. The problem is that modern Macbook Pros under Windows are limited to NVidia graphics making Intel Iris Pro graphics unavailable. And Nvidia graphics in its turn produces pretty much heat, sometimes to the point when it "boils" on your lap.
As an answer to this i heard that Windows is somehow limited (i honestly doubt this in regards to Windows 8.1) and doesn't support dual graphics and other stuff. Well, then give users an option to completely turn off NVidia graphics and use Iris Pro only. Is this possible?

Unfortunately, there is no way to switch. It requires removal of the BC/Windows and re-installation in EFI mode. W7 has some challenges with EFI mode, but W8+ are much better. If you want to try the EFI method, then
    1. Backup Windows and all your files.
    2. Remove Windows using BCA (do not use any other tools) - Boot Camp: Remove Windows from your Mac
    3. Create a partition of the size you want the Windows to be, using Disk Utility. This should be a Free Space partition.
    4. Use the Windows Installer and choose EFI boot from the USB built using BCA.
    5. Install Windows. The Free Space partition will be split into a 128MB MSR and the remainder as MS Data which will become NTFS during the Windows installation.

  • How do I enable BitLocker support (unlock drive) in WinPE 5.0 (on Surface Pro 2)?

    Hi,
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 and I am running Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1.
I have been unsuccessful at building an image that provides BitLocker support.  I searched around the internet and found many posts.  Eventually, I ended up trying to build it with the various added packages I noted.  However, in the end,
none worked and this is the message I am getting after booting into my WinPE environment:
    manage-bde.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0xa20afa3b referenced memory at 0x0000013d.
The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Here are the commands I ended up using to build my WinPE image:
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-WMI.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-FMAPI.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-SecureStartup.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-EnhancedStorage.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\en-us\WinPE-WMI_en-us.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-Scripting.cab"
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\en-us\WinPE-Scripting_en-us.cab"
But even with all that included, I still have the same error about the memory.
Does anyone have a WinPE 5.0 x64 bootable environment working on a TPM-enabled machine?  If so, how did you build your custom WinPE environment?
    Thanks!

You have to install the MUI files as well... for English:
    dism /image:C:\boot\macrium\mount /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\en-US\WinPE-SecureStartup_en-us.cab"
This applies to any package that installs executables, it'll have a seperate MUI package that has to be installed or you get a non-sense error about memory that can't be read. Also, MS thanks for the wonderful error message, really went the extra mile to
    throw everyone under the bus.

  • WDS and Surface Pro 2

I have a Windows Deployment Server and I am using Windows ADK to load essential drivers onto my boot/install images.
I downloaded the latest Surface Pro 2 driver pack and used DISM to load drivers on to an offline boot image from a Windows 8.1 ISO. I then un-mount the image and load it onto my WDS server.
My problem is the Surface Pro 2 won't pxe boot into my Windows Deployment Server. When I PXE boot, it displays media present and then waits for user input to start PXE over IPv4. I press enter but it times out and then prompts for IPv6 (no error given) when
that times out it boots the machine into windows.
I had been successfully imaging Surface Pro tablets from this deployment server using the same methods, but we recently got in the Surface Pro 2 and I haven't been able to get it working.
I have the latest version of MDT installed but I'm not that familiar with it. When we first started deploying tablets I had attempted to create boot wims with MDT but I never got it working and decided just to use the WADK and DISM.
Any ideas on what I could try next?

I am running WDS on Windows server 2008 R2.
I am using a Type Cover 2 from Microsoft.
I am using the Microsoft Surface Ethernet Adapter. I loaded the drivers for the adapter into the boot image as well as the other drivers from the February driver pack.
    Thank you for your response.

  • Surface pro 3 error when printing to HP printers

I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 to replace my laptop. I love it except that I can't network it to printers like my old laptop. Since I am stuck using your printer app, it has been a disaster. I get error messages. The app can't find my documents, then I get error messages. Documents will partially print or I will get a message that the printer is offline. Is there a patch or fix for this issue?
    This question was solved.

    Hello @manon1,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having problems printing from your Surface Pro 3.
    I would like to help.
From what I have learned of the Surface Pro series, is that they run a full version of the windows operating system.
This means that unlike the RT versions, you can install software.
You should be able to install the same software that you would install on a notebook or desktop computer.
This would make it so that you do not need to use the app.

  • Why does firefox 7 crashes the system if Quadro NVS 135M graphics driver is installed?

Why does firefox 7 crashes the system with a Quadro NVS 135M graphics cards installed?
It happens immediately after opening Firefox on a two screen system. You get a message saying the Graphics Driver stopped responding, but that it managed to recover, but after a while the system freezes completely. You can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

I get this too on with my nVidia GTX460 card. In my case the screen goes black. It happens once every few days, and for a while I could not figure out why. I was forcing a shutdown to get the screen back.
But I put the computer to sleep and woke it up, since that restarts the video, and this let me see what was wrong. The only error message is it reports that Firefox hung. There is nothing else in the Event logs.
I'm running Windows 7 with all the updates from Windows Update, and my video driver is 285.62, but his also happened with the 260.26 driver.
I imagine this is happening a lot, but people aren't able to isolate the cause.
I'm looking for a fix, not a bypass.

  • Polygonal lasso tool not working with stylus on Surface Pro 2

    Hi guys,
I'm new here so please bare with me if I'm posting in the wrong place or don't make immediate sense.
Hardeware / software used: surface pro 2 and I'm running photoshop CS5.
Problem is a fairly basic one: I am trying to make basic selections using the polygonal lasso tool (using the stylus that comes with the tablet) but it simply will not work. All I get when I touch the stylus to the screen is the circle that appears then fades. If I attach the keypad and try using that then it works no problem at all.
Does anyone have any ideas as to whether there is a particular setting that I need to switch on or off e.g. something relating to pressure sensitivity (although not sure why this would affect this particular selection tool)?
I've searched the web and come up with nothing so far so any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for your time
    Scott

same problem on surface pro 3 !!!!
and i think quite significant, for lot of artists using polygonal lasso a lot (including me). How come that the stupid surface cannot work properly

  • Yoga 13 Graphics driver problem -BSOD

I am having a problem getting this frequent "graphic driver stopped responding..." message and a "video_scheduler.." BSOD after that. Something like this:
    Steps I did:
Did OKR. Clean driver. Lenovo driver. Windows update intel Driver. Latest Intel HD 4000 from their site. The BIOS version is upto date but I reinstalled again.NO luck. .I tried both Win 8 and 8.1 here. .. I tried all these possibilities..
Did clean windows install from a non-lenovo windows 8 image. Wiped SSD. Windows was fresh, clean and no bloatware. No Luck.  Updatet to 8.1 .. did all possibilities again.. no luck.
I called Lenovo Tech. They remote to the laptop and what he did is uninstall all graphics driver and use windows generic driver. He stopped auto windows update (since windows updates the driver). There's no error, but the laptop performance is horribly slow. Scrolling long PDF and websites is wavy and the HDMI port is useless.
Lenovos solution is unacceptable. The laptop is bassically useless.
Are you guys experiencing the same thing too? Do you guys know a solution. I really like the laptop but it is unusable.
BTW, I bought this laptop ~3 weeks as scratch and dent at their lenovo website. I wonder if there is a hardware problem for this.
    Also, the wifi sucks.. sigh

    Conclusion
16 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:
igdkmd64.sys (Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver, Intel Corporation)
If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.
