Surface Pro 3 no pen pressure in CS6?

I have just purchased a Surface Pro 3 and have downloaded Adobe Suite, particularly to use Photoshop CS6.
However, I have no pen pressure in Photoshop CS6! It's incredibly frustrating!
I can draw with the Surface Pen, but there is no pressure sensitivity - even when I switch sensitivity on. (I am experienced using Photoshop and understand how to use these functions).
The Surface Pen seems to be working fine in all other applications.

You say the pen is "working fine" in all other applications, but does this mean you're getting pressure sensitivity in other applications?
I just got a SP3 a couple of months ago and as I recall, once you calibrate it and pair it the Surface Pen will function, but without pressure sensitivity. After doing some research I ended up downloading and installing the N-trig Wintab driver and I now have pressure sensitivity in a variety of art programs, e.g. Photoshop CC & CC 2014, ArtRage, Sketchbook Pro, Manga Studio 5, and Painter 2015.
I understand that Microsoft has now released Surface Hub, an app that enables sensitivity adjustment and is available in the Microsoft store. My impression is that you would install this for newer apps and only if you have not already installed the Wintab driver. The Surface Hub seems to be getting mixed reviews.

  • Issues with the Surface Pro 3's pen in Photoshop CS6

I used photoshop CS6 with no problems on my old computer that was connected to a graphics tablet.
However, I recently bought a new windows computer called the Surface Pro 3. Everything works perfectly with the trackpad and touch, but I've had some issues with the Surface pen.
The pen can draw on the canvas, but whenever I click something on any of the windows with the pen, the entire application freezes and I would have to click the computer's taskbar at the bottom to unfreeze the application.
It's impossible to work like this. Is there any solution to fix this problem? It says that the version of photoshop I have is Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.1.2

If you have Photoshop CS6 version 13.1.2 which is the Subscription version of Photoshop,  You shoule  Isstall Photoshop CC 2014 on your surface Pro 3.  It will work without problems on the surface Pro 3 and you will also have the option have the option to use Photoshop CC 2014 preference 2x UI to scale Photoshop's UI up in size on your Surface Pro 3.
If you do not have a subscription the Perpetual version of windows CS6 should be version 13.0.1.3.  In that case the only way to scale Photoshop UI is to have windows do it. You would need to to update your windows 8.1 registry and add an external Photoshop manifest file in your Photoshop CS6 folder.  To get the Surface Pro 3 pen to work with Photoshop you would need to install NTig pen device drivers the support the wintab APIs.
You will not be able to use Photoshop without a keyboard popping up the windows onscreen keyboard is too cumbersome.  You can use a utility like Touchkey to create Overlay touch keys on Photoshop and use Photoshop without a keyboard.
The differece betweek Adobe 2XUI scaling an windows scaling ise windows scaling scalet the image areas as well as the Photoshops UI
A couple of touchkey overlat keyboards could look something like this

  • Can any tablets such as the surface pro 2 run full versions of CS6?

can the surface 2 run the full version of Flash CS6, dreamweaver, and photoshop from creative cloud?

i suspect your cpu and os will fail to meet specs: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-system-requirements.html
on the other hand there are mobile versions of a few cc apps (eg, photoshop touch) that will run on android and ios.  here's some info: http://www.adobe.com/products/touchapps.html

  • Surface Pro 3 + Photoshop CS6 + Latest N-trig Driver = TOTAL FAILURE!!!...or is it just me???

I recently purchased a Surface Pro 3 (i7/256GB) for the main purpose of getting back into drawing.  I wanted to run Photoshop CS6 (I'm not buying into Adobe's CC subscription crap) with N-trig's latest 64bit driver that is supposed to add pen pressure support.  But, now I can't draw a single straight line because the new N-trig driver is causing the pen to jump at the beginning and end of each stroke.  The result is that every stroke I make ends up with an "L" shaped hook at both ends.  The issue does not occur in my trial version of Photoshop CC or any other drawing application... it only affects Photoshop CS6.  And, the problem occurs whether or not I've enabled the pressure sensitivity option.  Furthermore, the problem goes away if I uninstall the N-trig driver... but, then I lose the pen pressure feature.  Am I the only one having this issue?  This is super frustrating because my main reason for getting the Surface Pro 3 was to use Photoshop CS6.  And let me tell you... it's not easy for an Apple "Fanboy" like myself to admit the allure of the Surface Pro 3;)

I agree. I Fault Adobe and MS. Adobe wants you to pay a monthly fee for CC, so don't count on them updating their "not so old software" anytime soon. MS ... are just idiots. Always on the verge of greatness and they do something to mess it up. They are clueless that the vast majority of Surface Pro 3 users are artists.
However, until it is fixed I do have a work around for everyone. I've only purchased Sketchbook Pro 2015 (v7) and Corel Painter 2015 (both of which work fine with the Surface Pro 3 (SF3). For CS6 or older programs that strictly use the wintab (aka Wacom like devices) do the following....
    Directions:
    1. You must download the newest N-Trig driver (ntrig.com). There is a Wintab Driver 1.0.0.16 but there is also a 1.0.0.17 that works as well.
    2. Install the driver. Photoshop and most other Wintab (or Wacom like use programs such as - Photoshop CS6/CS5, Corel Painter 12, SB Pro 5 or 6 ... and so forth) will now work on the SP3.
    3. However .... other programs such as Onenote, Sketchbook Pro 2015 and their like will not work!!! Note: Corel Painter 2015 are the only "smart" Program Creators to have an option in the programs "preferences" to use n-trig or wacom (aka wintab) drivers. This wonderful program can switch back and forth. Such a simple solution ... hint, hint!!!
    4. To get sketchbook Pro 2015 and other programs to work again ... uninstall the N-Trig Wintab driver in the Control Panel/Programs.
    5. Yes, you must install and un-install the Wintab driver ... Annoying but it works for all your Art Programs and other Pen Pressure programs/apps.
Call MS and ask them to at least create an "on and off switch" for the wintab driver till this gets fixed, (this on off switch should be in the new Surface Pro 3 "Hub" Pen utility program)!!! However, as you can tell from Corel ... software makers can fix this issue as well, hint, hint again Adobe!!!
Until it is fixed: All we can do is call MS and ADOBE (and their greedy like,) tell them to fix their software and don't let up till they do. Secondly, I personally will not buy anything (software or hardware) until this is fixed. Thirdly, I will never "rent" my software Adobe.
    JNK.
Not to be an annoying jerk, but a couple of points:
Autodesk are moving towards a subscription model. Yes, you can get SketchBook Pro 7 as a so-called "permanent" license but all you're getting is minor updates. (And upgrade pricing is going bye-bye in February, if I recall.) Something to keep in mind as you may have no choice in the future *but* to subscribe. You really don't own the software even in a permanent/purchased setup anyway. They just give a license to use it regardless of the situation.
While we're on the subject, Autodesk released their newer version of SketchBook Pro for mobile without letting users of the previous paid version of SketchBook Pro know what was going on. They just dropped it onto the Google Play and the App Store. Not very polite (or professional), in my opinion, and they ended up with a lot of angry users as a result.
Corel...maybe it's just me and how I used to use PaintShop Pro, but I could never wrap my head around that app's interface. It's mostly clunky; it's like they're trying to be Photoshop but can't be Photoshop for obvious reasons. I switched to Photoshop Elements 9 from PaintShop Pro X2. I actually considered PSP again before deciding on Photoshop CC. The kicker was trying to use layer masks in PSP. Just...bleh. Guess I was too used to how Photoshop Elements did it (which is very much like how full-on Photoshop does it, minus the fancy style and adjustment layers...which was also one of the reasons why I upgraded).
Calling a company like Adobe "greedy" is a bit unfair (not to mention the wrong way to communicate with a company). For $10 USD/month for the latest versions and any and all new features/updates for Photoshop and Lightroom via the Creative Cloud Photography Plan? I'm pretty sure we're the ones getting away with murder there. Adobe made a ton of cash from the CC Photography Plan, hence why they made it permanent. People found it to be the "sweet spot" for subscribing. They couldn't be more right. By the time a couple years pass by, we're still not approaching what people would pay outright just to use a copy of CS6 *minus* Lightroom. People pay more than that a month just to play a stupid MMORPG. Hell, people pay more for in-app purchases on mobile games.
    Just my observations.

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush pressure sensitivity not working on the Microsoft Surface Pro.

I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro in anticipation of running Photoshop on it.  I installed Photoshop and tried to do some sketches.  I created a new file and started sketching.  I Immediately felt like something was wrong.  I checked my brush settings and saw the pressure sensitivity was not available.  Everytine I tried to turn it on it was marked with an exclamation point.
Does anybody know if Adobe is supporting the new pressure sensitive pen from microsoft, or if there is some sort of setting that I am missing?  I have tried sketchbook pro 2011, and that works amazingly well with the pen.  I hope someone can help me along here, because if this tablet can truely run photoshop, it would be a Game Changer.

Just curious.... has any of you tried the shape dynamics in photoshop and turning on pen pressure?
and in illustrator to modify the size to pressure and variation to maximum? (and of course select that brush preset that you just modified and draw with it using SHIFT+B for blob brush or B for regular brush)
I am also interested in purchasing a Surface pro so please report if this helps.
what I recently discovered in other forums is that Sketchbook Pro works flawlessly in desktop mode. Sketchbook Express in the APP mode doesn't support pressure yet.
there is no official confirmation that the surface pro uses a wacom digitizer, however a few artist friends of mine have gone to the microsoft store... brought their own wacom pens (cintiq 15x pen - older models that works with general tabletpcs) and the pro recognized it. which means that it is a wacom digitizer. it wouldn't make sense if a wacom pen works with a different digitizer board like N-trig.
also read in another forum about adobe using wintab and windows 8 wintab drivers are not there yet.
anyway... I'd be glad to know if this works or not
    thanks!

  • Surface Pro pen pressure is not working in Photoshop

    I just bought Microsoft Photoshop.
But Adobe Photoshop doesn't provide pen pressure sensitivity.
I tested Microsoft OneNote, Fresh Paint, and Autodesk Sketchbook. They are working well.
Please provide the pen pressure function in Photoshop too.

On the Main photoshop forum, one of the Adobe staff is stating that the issue is with Microsoft and not Adobe. I can not see the code nor do I own a surface pro therefore I can not confirm nor deny it. In other words, I am a poor lonely user with the same access as every other user. LOL.

  • Pen Pressure in Photoshop on MS Surface Pro..

Did anyone get the new update today and did it fix the pen pressure issue for Photoshop use on the MS Surface  Pro Tablet???? I know this is an aging die hard issue but man do I need it bad,.....-Joe

    Hey there folks,
I figure I take some time to respond to the surface pro things,.....
@Alanomaly, yes pretty good so far, I can not complain about the pen pressure. MS had nothing to do with it except to communicatge with Adobe, and Wacom..as things go, all three needed to agree on working on this. The driver is through Wacom on their site under the Tablet PC select. Thats it. You load, restart PC an it works.
Now as far as comparing it to Intuos/Cintiq, well, its not a question really. The Surface Pro tablet functions like a PC but is smaller  than a 9x12 Intuos and Cintiq, with the exception of the smallest sizes of eother of those. But, I do not use the smaller sizes. I do have a Cintiq 24 HD, love it!!! When Im away, the road, at the shore,..or at work and want to doodle, sketch, concept draw, whatever, Im not using Surface Pro to do full fledged digital content, ..Ill take it home and finish or expand on it.....but I wont divulge my personal reasons for using it , but, that is why I think Surface Pro exists, so I can use it for what I want and be happy.  Now, if Wacom comes out w a tablet and its a tablet like Surface Pro, and a user wont need to hook up a Wacom type of tablet to a PC to work on it as a mobile device, then, I ll be rethinking my options....maybe.
Now, I have  a Xeon cpu in my machine and a second one when Im ready to use it, and I see the i5 and i7 cpus really taking advantage of the mixer brushes and interactive brushes better than my xeon cpus. I wish to make that better on my machine but thats another story.
    I hope tht helps.....

  • Surface Pro 3 with Illustrator CS6/CS3

    Hi there,
before I want to buy the Surface pro 3 I have a few questions. The main reason I want to use it for is to work with Adobe Illustrator.
    1) I've installed CS6 student edition on my desktop pc at the moment. Is it possible to use CS6 student also at the Surface by using the same license as on the pc.
    2) Can I use the pressure sensative of the brushes in Illustrator CS6 with the Surface 3 pen?
    3) If it's not possible to use CS6 on both devices, I have also the older Illustrator CS3 student edition. Has anyone tried to use this pressure option in the Illustrator CS3 on the Surface pro 3?
    4) Could you generally advise to use Illustrator on the Surface pro 3. I've read that the GUI symbols are very small. Has anyone experiences?
    Thank you so much,
    ktoffler

You shouldn't have much problems with the surface. The only thing I can think of is the issue of the higher resolution. Since illustrator is an older version is is lacking the features for higher resolution monitors. You may need to lower the resolution to make it easier to see and use. Other than that you should be fine.

  • CS2 Pressure Functionality on Surface Pro 3

    Hello all,
I just got a Surface Pro 3 and have been struggling to get pressure support with the Pro Pen.
I've read support topics that suggest downloading the wintab driver and the Wacom driver, although when I do that, I just get the error that there's no supported devices detected. My pen is paired and working fine.
I guess my main question is:
Has anyone been successful getting this to work? If so, can someone point me in the direction of an answer, or help me get it set up?
Thank you all. Every bit of feedback is helpful!

Just figured it out myself, but for anyone who's interested:
    Wintab - N-trig
You'll need the 32-bit driver installed, and pressure sensitivity will work.

  • Pen Pressure Greyed out CS6

When attempting to set the brush to "pen pressure" it is greyed out.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver with the latest driver.
    I have rebooted multiple times.
    Reconnected the tablet multiple times.
Cleared out the options cache on the tablet.
Cleared out the options cadche on Illustrator.
    None of these have worked.
I am running OSX 10.8.1 Mountain Lion with Illustrator CS6.
I'm running a 2008, Intel Macbook Pro with an Intuos 4 Tablet.

Have you looked at the tablets settings? Are Yiu sure that your drivers are updated for 10.8.1?
the latest is 6.3.3.3-3 from August 7 just makin certin it is the newest.
Did you try a new user account, did you try to reset Illustrators preferences or repair the permissions?

  • Type UI in CS6 in Surface Pro 3 is too small.  Adobe needs to isuue a fix for CS6.

I don't need to upgrade CS6 for any photography reason.  Adobe should make CS6 UI readable fro surface pro 3 users.  They have a fix for later versions.  Why not make it available in other earlier versions of photoshop.  This is not a question of adding new features, it is a question of making the UI readable.

However good software companies like Microsoft fixes bugs user report on their Current  Software.  Adobe should fix bugs on current marketed software  like CS6 Adobe chooses not to. Microsoft fixed XP till the middle of 2014 years after windows 7 and win 8 were current.   Bugs go unfixed in Photoshop release after release. Adobe Program support continues to be sub par year after year.
    Currently there are three CS6
    perpetual Mac version 13.0.6
    perpetual PC version 13.0.1.3

  • Surface Pro 3 Pen bindings, etc

I have a Photoshop trial and I'm currently holding out of purchasing it so I can use it on my Surface Pro 3, because I'm not going to have a keyboard with me.
I'm using the polygonal lasso tool and I need to move a line back, and since I don't have a keyboard I can't use the delete key to move .. well, a line back.
So my only option is to end the selection and re-do EVERYTHING.
Is there a solution to this? Any buttons I can hit? Any preferences I can change?
I tried finding programs like this but they dont work on the SP3.

I would suggest requesting and upgrade to your server to Connect 9 (I believe 9.2 or newer had the best resolution for the tablet input lag). The tablet/touch pen input was always an issue with older versions of Connect.
One of the longer discussions about it was had here: Wacom Bamboo strokes truncated

  • Surface Pro 3 Pen / stylus doesn't work well in Illustrator, works fine in Photoshop

    Good day,
I've had CC on a Surface Pro 3 for two months now and I've been trying to troubleshoot the erratic behavior of using the Surface Pen in Illustrator. I've checked the batteries (there's multiple batteries in the pen), making sure they're installed correctly. I've gone into the Win 8.1 settings and checked the pen to be sure it's operating properly. It works well in all other apps; draws well in Photoshop, Fresh Paint, One Note, etc.
When using the brush tool with the pen in Illustrator, I'm only able to draw every other line. Sometimes it's once every third or fourth line. I need to tremendously slow down in order for Illustrator to recognize I'd like to draw, and even then, I'm not guaranteed that a line will draw. This issue isn't isolated to the brush tool. Nearly any action with the pen on the canvas haphazardly occurs (selections, join tool, etc.). It's beyond frustrating!
Is anyone else experiencing poor Surface Pen performance in Illustrator?  If no, I suppose I have a hardware issue, but it's suspiciously an app problem, seeing how the pen works great throughout the rest of my apps.
    Thanks for reading,
    Brent

    Hi All,
Thanks to Monika Gause for the whole day extended support. Illustrator team really appreciate this.
Monika removed (un-installed) the N-trig Wintab x64 application/driver from the system and the issue got re-solved.
We would love to hear from all the people who are facing this issue that what happens when they follow the above step.
    With Best Regards,

Thanks for your help Jeff. When I put serial# in, it won't except it.... I think it wants to see a previous version in my pc because my serial is for an upgrade, but when it put in a serial# for version cs5 it still wont except. Do you think i have to install cs5 first (which is also an upgrade).. which will require that I put in version cs4 etc,.etc., etc.
Do you know how I can get into an chat with Adobe.Thats what i had to do last time I installed CS6 in my desktop PC.
