Surface Pro 3 + Photoshop CS6 + Latest N-trig Driver = TOTAL FAILURE!!!...or is it just me???

I recently purchased a Surface Pro 3 (i7/256GB) for the main purpose of getting back into drawing.  I wanted to run Photoshop CS6 (I'm not buying into Adobe's CC subscription crap) with N-trig's latest 64bit driver that is supposed to add pen pressure support.  But, now I can't draw a single straight line because the new N-trig driver is causing the pen to jump at the beginning and end of each stroke.  The result is that every stroke I make ends up with an "L" shaped hook at both ends.  The issue does not occur in my trial version of Photoshop CC or any other drawing application... it only affects Photoshop CS6.  And, the problem occurs whether or not I've enabled the pressure sensitivity option.  Furthermore, the problem goes away if I uninstall the N-trig driver... but, then I lose the pen pressure feature.  Am I the only one having this issue?  This is super frustrating because my main reason for getting the Surface Pro 3 was to use Photoshop CS6.  And let me tell you... it's not easy for an Apple "Fanboy" like myself to admit the allure of the Surface Pro 3;)

I agree. I Fault Adobe and MS. Adobe wants you to pay a monthly fee for CC, so don't count on them updating their "not so old software" anytime soon. MS ... are just idiots. Always on the verge of greatness and they do something to mess it up. They are clueless that the vast majority of Surface Pro 3 users are artists.
However, until it is fixed I do have a work around for everyone. I've only purchased Sketchbook Pro 2015 (v7) and Corel Painter 2015 (both of which work fine with the Surface Pro 3 (SF3). For CS6 or older programs that strictly use the wintab (aka Wacom like devices) do the following....
Directions:
1. You must download the newest N-Trig driver (ntrig.com). There is a Wintab Driver 1.0.0.16 but there is also a 1.0.0.17 that works as well.
2. Install the driver. Photoshop and most other Wintab (or Wacom like use programs such as - Photoshop CS6/CS5, Corel Painter 12, SB Pro 5 or 6 ... and so forth) will now work on the SP3.
3. However .... other programs such as Onenote, Sketchbook Pro 2015 and their like will not work!!! Note: Corel Painter 2015 are the only "smart" Program Creators to have an option in the programs "preferences" to use n-trig or wacom (aka wintab) drivers. This wonderful program can switch back and forth. Such a simple solution ... hint, hint!!!
4. To get sketchbook Pro 2015 and other programs to work again ... uninstall the N-Trig Wintab driver in the Control Panel/Programs.
5. Yes, you must install and un-install the Wintab driver ... Annoying but it works for all your Art Programs and other Pen Pressure programs/apps.
Call MS and ask them to at least create an "on and off switch" for the wintab driver till this gets fixed, (this on off switch should be in the new Surface Pro 3 "Hub" Pen utility program)!!! However, as you can tell from Corel ... software makers can fix this issue as well, hint, hint again Adobe!!!
Until it is fixed: All we can do is call MS and ADOBE (and their greedy like,) tell them to fix their software and don't let up till they do. Secondly, I personally will not buy anything (software or hardware) until this is fixed. Thirdly, I will never "rent" my software Adobe.
JNK.
Not to be an annoying jerk, but a couple of points:
Autodesk are moving towards a subscription model. Yes, you can get SketchBook Pro 7 as a so-called "permanent" license but all you're getting is minor updates. (And upgrade pricing is going bye-bye in February, if I recall.) Something to keep in mind as you may have no choice in the future *but* to subscribe. You really don't own the software even in a permanent/purchased setup anyway. They just give a license to use it regardless of the situation.
While we're on the subject, Autodesk released their newer version of SketchBook Pro for mobile without letting users of the previous paid version of SketchBook Pro know what was going on. They just dropped it onto the Google Play and the App Store. Not very polite (or professional), in my opinion, and they ended up with a lot of angry users as a result.
Corel...maybe it's just me and how I used to use PaintShop Pro, but I could never wrap my head around that app's interface. It's mostly clunky; it's like they're trying to be Photoshop but can't be Photoshop for obvious reasons. I switched to Photoshop Elements 9 from PaintShop Pro X2. I actually considered PSP again before deciding on Photoshop CC. The kicker was trying to use layer masks in PSP. Just...bleh. Guess I was too used to how Photoshop Elements did it (which is very much like how full-on Photoshop does it, minus the fancy style and adjustment layers...which was also one of the reasons why I upgraded).
Calling a company like Adobe "greedy" is a bit unfair (not to mention the wrong way to communicate with a company). For $10 USD/month for the latest versions and any and all new features/updates for Photoshop and Lightroom via the Creative Cloud Photography Plan? I'm pretty sure we're the ones getting away with murder there. Adobe made a ton of cash from the CC Photography Plan, hence why they made it permanent. People found it to be the "sweet spot" for subscribing. They couldn't be more right. By the time a couple years pass by, we're still not approaching what people would pay outright just to use a copy of CS6 *minus* Lightroom. People pay more than that a month just to play a stupid MMORPG. Hell, people pay more for in-app purchases on mobile games.
Just my observations.

  • Cannot draw in Flash Pro CC on Surface Pro 3 with latest N-Trig drivers...Is there a current fix?

Cant draw in flash pro cc on surface pro 3 with latest n-trig wintab drivers. Many others online say they have this issue on surface pro 3 also...Is there not some type of current fix. Someone on the adobe forums said the problem was fixed internally in flash pro and that the fix will come with next adobe flash pro update, but when is that?
Flash updates don't exactly  come every month or even 2 months, and this issue needs some type of current fix because there are many ppl also having this issue, which basically makes Flash Pro useless, what good is an animation program if you cannot draw in it on a tablet that literally SPECIALIZES in pen/drawing usage. So anything out there ??

its very frustrating as I'm paying monthly for CC and can't use one the programs I need for my design job! Looking at other programs.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop CS6 recognizes its Twain Driver

I've downloaded the Twain driver for Photoshop CS6 from Adobe and copied the Twain.plugin file to the Photoshop Plugin directory in Applications. I'm using a Mac with 10.6.8. I then restarted CS6 but there isn't a mention of 'Twain' in the Import menu? So also not my scanner. Which is an Epson Stylus SX130. Why not?

    Is your scanner driver 64-bit?

  • Unable to run pse 13 dvd on surface pro while connecting through external dvd drive

Hello, I purchased pse13 DVD and a portable DVD drive to install this software on surface pro having windows 8.1 but this DVD is not detected on surface. Is there a way I can install this software on my surface?

You'll have to figure out why the surface isn't showing the DVD drive. For that you'll have to contact Microsoft or the DVD manufacturer to see if the drive is compatible with your Surface.

EDIT: I'll post the recording once I get its url.

No April Fool's joke.  When PECourtejoie posted the message, the webinar was in progress.  I missed the first 10 minutes of it.  By the way I had to log in as a guest, because the Adobe ID didn't work even while the webinar was going on. Since the webinar is over it's over, so people still seeing this post won't be able to join at all, hence the feeling that it may have been a joke.
I think Adobe said they would be archiving the webinar, so those who didn't join while it was going on will be able to view it later.  Unfortunately, I don't have a link to it.

  • Retina Macbook Pro, Photoshop CS6, canvas turns black on external display

I have a problem. The entire canvas turns black and cant be edited when I drag the app from the main display (hi-dpi retina Macbook Pro) to the external (normal dpi) display.
I have noticed that I can get around this by opening some psd-files and then deleting all their layers. But hey, I should be able to create a new document for editing on my external display right.
When I drag Photoshop back to the retina display, it turns white again, and is editable.

I am also experiencing this problem. Has anyone solved it yet?
    Thanks!

  • Mac Pro Photoshop CS6 problems.

    Hello All,
I have a new Mac Pro 3.2 Ghz quad core intel Xeon running 16GB of Ram (for now) on a Apple Display 30" When running very large files on PS CS6 the layers start breaking up into strange streaks and white blocks.  Sometimes if I quit PS it goes away other times the artifacts are still in the file.  Any ideas?
    Thanks Everyone!

I wanted to follow up on my oringal post.  I never did figure out the Problem after upgrading to 32GB of Ram and following many of the suggestions it did help a bit but on a rare occasion with huge files and layers open PS will stop working properly and lock.

  • How well does Photoshop Cs6 run on the 15" Macbook Pro with 2.6gHz?

I'm currently 'in the market' for a new computer. My desktop is fine, but no longer can handle all the tasks I can toss at it for work (i.e. graphic design). I have been carefully biding my time, getting as much use out of it and my essentially crummy Paint Shop Photo x2, and I believe now for it to be the time to invest in a Mac and the newest edition of Photoshop (CS6). My question is this: Which one of the two Macbook Pro 15" will work best with it, and yet still survive through the next few series of upgrades? My boyfriend says the higher one, the 2.6gHz guy, will do just fine for what I need, I'm just chewing my nails off at the price. And no, I'm not interested in the retina display model. Suggesting it is just pointless.
Basically, I'd like to know which Macbook Pro 15", the one with 2.3gHz or 2.6gHz, will suffice for the jobs I need to do, which include all areas of graphic design and artwork (hence Photoshop), along with heavy internet usage (7-9+ tabs open at any time), Word documents or the equivalent (Pages) and any extras (iTunes, Spotify). Bonus if it can gently tolerate things such as the Sims 3 and all its expansion packs.

The nice thing about the 2.6GHz model is that it comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory. The 2.3GHz model only has the NVIDEO GeForuce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory. And Photoshop will take advantage of that extra video RAM.
That said, I have an older (late 2011) 15" MBP with a 512MB video card and Photoshop CS6 (and the entire Adobe Design & Web Premium suite) works just fine. If I were you, I would buy the base 2.3GHz model with 4GB of RAM and upgrade the RAM, and possible the hard drive with a SSD, as you need it. You can upgrade your RAM yourself to 16GB and you will notice an appreciable difference in Photoshop speed. And I would recommend the RAM upgrade straightaway. You can then look at putting in a 512GB SSD for around $400 and you'll have one of the fastest machines around.
So go with the 2.3GHz and upgrade the RAM immediately. Good sources for RAM are Crucial, Corsair, etc. You'll get far more out of a RAM upgrade than you will the processor upgrade.

  • I found a solution to Photoshop CS6, Windows 8.1 HiDPI, Small UI problem

I found a solution and here it is - I have been struggling to find a solution to the small UI on Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 issue since May 2014 when I purchased a Dell XPS15 with high resolution.  Like many, I've spent countless hours searching for a solution and reading Adobe's weak answers and everyone's growing frustrations.  Finally a found a post that solved the issue for me.  The UI is now fine for both Photoshop and Illustrator.
Here is the link - it worked for me and was really very easy to do.
Hack makes Photoshop and Illustrator readable on Surface Pro — Surface Pro Artist

I have never fully understood Microsoft windows desktop scaling and usually just stay with Microsoft default settings.  I have played with it some,  I know if I scale fonts way up in size  the may not fit in in son applications UI areas and have also observed the some application seem to honor Microsoft scaling and others do not.  So I never set a custom scaling factor.  I stick with the few presets Microsoft set up. Normally stick with Microsoft default setting. The seems to be for the most machines 100%.  When  I set up my surface Pro 3 I notices that Microsoft default for the machine 150%.   Microsoft presets are 100%  2160x1440,  125%  1728x1152,  the 150% default 1440x960 and 200%  1080x720.     Applications like Web browsers saw the screen at the 150% size resolution  1440x960 Pixe's and display was very useable.   Application like Adobe Photoshop  saw the display 100% setting 2160x1440 and the UI was in the small useable you need to add a mouse.  If I use CC 2014 Preference 2x UI Photoshop would use the 200% setting  1080x720 and Photoshop UI was so large it did not fit on screen. the display was not 768 pixel high.  So I thought I would try the registry hack and the external Photoshop.exe.manifest file to see how 150% scale looked. 1440x960 meets Photoshop display size requirement.  The result is quite nice.  Here are three screen captures  one with PS UI and tool bat a second wit UI, Tool bar and some Pallets and a third in full screen mode without UI, Tool Bar and Palettes.  All have my touchkey UI.  It is like having a display with an 144 ppi resolution.  John thank you for posting what you found. Its looking good.

I believe the only issue is the dowload software that came with the monitor cannot be doewnloaded  on the Surface Pro as there is no CD Drive!!

  • FAQ: How do I uninstall the Photoshop CS6 beta?

It is recommended that you uninstall the Photoshop CS6 beta prior to installing the official release of Photoshop CS6.
Uninstallation is easy, and can be done in just a couple steps depending on your Operating System.
Important: Do not attempt to manually uninstall or remove Photoshop CS6 beta by dragging folders to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac OS). Doing so can cause problems with uninstallation, and installation in the future.
If you've already tried to manually uninstall the Photoshop Cs6 beta, see the instructions at the bottom of this post for using the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.
Instructions for uninstalling the Photoshop CS6 beta:

    Didn't Uninstall Correctly?
If you didn't uninstall properly, you can use the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to remove the Photoshop CS6 beta from your system: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

CS6 does not support high-DPI displays on Windows, only Retina on Mac. You have to live with it.
