Surface Pro 3 PXE Boot Error

Hi there,
I am using MDT 2013 on a WDS 2008 R2 and everytime i tried to image the tablet via PXE boot through the Surface Pro 3 ethernet adapter, i get this error:
Wizard Error:
A connection to the deployment (my deployment share) could not be made.
The following network device did not have a driver installed.
PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_2B38&SUBSYS_045E0001&REV_00
Retry: Try again to connect to the deployment share.
Cancel: Give up, cancelling any in-progress task sequence.
PLEASE HELP!

I bought a Belkin USB2.0 adapter and connected to my Pro 3 while the Pro 3 ethernet adapter is connected as well. So 2 network cables are needed. I pxed boot using the Pro 3 ethernet adapter and deploy the image using the Belkin2.0 adapter. Error didnt
come back and deployment was successful. I mean this is a workaround but it works in my environment. The Belkin2.0 drivers are in WinPE and MDT.

No matter what, Surface Pro 3 boots to the BitLocker Recovery screen every time. I've tried to do a clean Windows 8.1 installation and it still goes to the BitLocker Recovery screen.
If I press Esc, it goes to this screen:
    Any suggestion is much appreciated.

    Hi Charlie,
Here is a link for reference of getting into the scenarios ,the hyperlink in it may be more comprehensive :

“I've tried to do a clean Windows 8.1 installation and it still goes to the BitLocker Recovery screen.”
Do you mean the recovery screen will occur even after we have made a clean installation ? How did you made a clean installation ?Have the drive been formatted ?
Usually the bitlocker is used to protect the data in the drive ,it should be usable after we formatted it by doing a clean installation. After all it is meaningless after we have formatted the drive .According to the link
Please check your symptom according to the link ,it is recommended to unplug all the external device when you performed a clean installation .
    Best regards

This is only happening with one of many Surface Pro's
I am unsure what would cause this, booting from USB in a hub with USB Network Adapter.

I've seen this on a few of the Surface Pro 3's we got in recently. It is because you need to update the date/time in the OS. The easiest way to do this is to
    (1) Make sure you have command support enabled in your boot image.
    (2) Before you start your image process from the boot image, press (Fn + F8)
    (3) At the command prompt, check your date/time.
    (4.a) Type cd x:\windows\system32
(4.b) Type date the current date is displayed, it's most likely off. It will prompt you to change the date using the mm-dd-yy format, change to the current date there, press enter
(4.c) Type the Time the current time is displayed (24 hour time), key in the current time press enter
    (5) Start your imaging process, all should be well
Excellent advice!!! For me, even though I had already booted the OS on my SP3, fully updated the firmware and restarted about 6 different times, I still would get a failure when the Boot image started to load. I followed these instructions and I was good to
good. I'm just floored to see that my date and time were off by 3 days and 11 hrs, even though my OS was correct. I'm flabbergasted that this was the case. Thanks for the post! Helped me a lot!

  • Yoga 2 Pro PXE boot?

Looking to PXE boot a Yoga 2 Pro so I can create/restore images with Microsoft WDS.  Since Yoga 2 Pro does not have a built-in Ethernet jack, does anyone know if it's possible to do this with a USB Ethernet adapter?
Would it have to be a Lenovo-branded apdater, or can any brand Belkin, TP-Link, etc) work?

How did you get this to work sir?? I have been trying for a solid week and it never see the Lenovo ethernet dongle as a boot option no matter what I choose in the BIOS. I have the X1 Carbon and it works as you would expect it to. But it NEVER works on the YOGA 2 PRO. CAn anyone help me?? The BIOS clearly has an option to boot the dongle thats made by LENOVO but the dongle never ever shows any lights no matter what port its in or regardless of the settings vchanged in the very small bios. I have wasted atleast 60 hrs + trying to figure out how to boot with it and it doesnt work at all. I had to end up making a bootable discover USB to help it find my wds server. Altough now when ever I attempt to drop an image to it it fails right at FINISHING up and finishes with a "corrupt installation file" error message. To make things more confusing is I can drop this same "Corrupt" image to our X1 carbons without a problem. Can anyone guess why??

  • Surface Pro 3 boot failure loop

We have a Surface Pro 3 tablet deployed on our network in the office. Since yesterday, when it boots up, we see "Preparing bitlocker recovery" and then a blue screen comes up saying
    "There was a problem
Restart your PC to try again
It looks like something didnt load correctly. Restarting might fix the problem. If this happens more than once, you might also be able to find help by searching online for the specific error code
    Error code: 8007139f"
I have tried holding the volume down button and pressing the power button to get to BIOS in order to boot from the network and reimage it, no luck. I have tried booting up on a USB drive no luck, blue screen keeps coming.
Please note, our GPO as of right now, disable all bitlocker policies. I am not sure how to pass this.
    Thanks,

  • Lenovo X1 Carbon PXe boot errors with SCCM 2007

I know there are many posts on this and I've gone through them all, but I am still having issues PXe booting a X1.  I have a USB ethernet dongle (the new type with the rounded edge). the part number is 0b67708. It's branded Lenovo but when I pxe it recognises it as ASIX AX88772b. So far so good. It picks up an IP from DHCP ok, recognises the hardware as x64 and then tries to download the \smsboot\boot.sdi file from the SCCM 2007 server. It waits for 20 seconds then falls over with the following:
Status: 0xc0000001 - Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
Now, I have the the following drivers in the boot.wim file:
    x86 -
    1. Lenovo USB2.0 Ethernet Adapter 5.12.7.0
    2. PCI bus
    3. Intel ICHR/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller
    4. Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub
    5. Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
    x64 -
    1. Lenovo USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter 5.14.4.0
    2. PCI Bus
    3. Intel ICHR/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller - 2821
    4. Intel USB 3.0 Root Hub
    5. Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller
I have tried using the ASIX drivers, all previous driver version, adding in the mass storage drivers, adding in the USB 3.0 drivers, praying to the PXe gods but nothing works.
All other hardware works fine. Any suggestions greatly welcomed.
    Cheers - Mark.

Make a USB recovery drive before reinstalling.Thats the only option with a preload. With a retail serial number, you can download an iso with the upgrade assistant.
Also, how much ram do you have. If yopu have more than 4GB, you will need 64 bit XP, or the performance will take a hit. I tried XP on my W530, but I had to change several settings in the BIOS/UEFI.
    W530(2436-CTO): i7-3720QM, nVidia Quadro K2000M,16GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive, 128GB mSATA SSD, Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome, Centrino Ultimate-N 6300.
    Yoga 3 Pro: Intel Core-M 5Y70, Intel HD 5300, 8GB RAM, 128GB eMMC, Windows 8.1, Broadcom Wireless 802.11ac.

  • UEFI PXE BOOT ERROR

    Hi,
I've a problem with the UEFI PXE in SCCM 2012R2.
    My DHCP configuration:
    Option 66 : myserveripaddress
    Option 67 : SMSBoot\x64\wdsmgfw.efi
    Option 60 : support
When I try to boot the machine (Hp Pro x2 612) the PXE starts but I receive the error:
Windows Deployment Services encountered an error:
    Error Code: 0x102
    Any Help is appreciated :)

It depends on what devices you are configuring. See here for configuring IP Helper on Cisco IOS
    http://www.gerryhampsoncm.blogspot.ie/2013/02/sccm-2012-sp1-step-by-step-guide-part_9487.html
Here is an example from a Cisco switch:
    interface Vlan10
       ip address 172.16.112.254 255.255.255.0
       ip helper-address 172.16.1.1
    End
This allows clients booting in 172.16.112.0/24 subnet to find the ConfigMgr or MDT server (172.16.1.1).
It's very straightforward. Your networking chaps will have no issue.

  • Can't PXE boot a Surface Pro 3 after already successfully imaging it

hey guys. To try to eliminate a lot of the initial question that come up with this issue, I figure I will start with established info.  Our SCCM environment is healthy, and all images, drivers and apps are distributed to all of our DP's. We can image
PC's and laptops with no issue at all. We use network PXE booting.  Using a 64 bit boot image. Needed drivers are injected into the boot image. Firmware on the Surface was updated.  Using the Surface NIC dongle. THis dongle was only used to image
this Surface Pro 3 tablet one time. There is no record of the MAC of the dongle in SCCM since I deleted the Surface out, to make it an unknown again.
So, with a lot of trial and error, I was finally able to get this tab to PXE boot, and then successfully image. Was testing out the new windows 8.1 image I had built.
Since it ewas successful I wanted to add all of our apps to the TS and test them out in imaging. Well, I can no longer get this thing to PXE boot. It shows trying to Start PXE over IPv4, then just skips to IPv6, then boots up into windows.
I have delted the secure keys form ther BIOS, then reloaded them.  I have tried hte full shut down method (Holding Volume Up and Power for 15 seconds, then waiting for 10 seconds or longer, then trying to PXE boot. I am getting a valid connection fro
    mthe dongle.
Nothinhg I try works. Its tries to PXE boot over IPv4, but never gets there.  But I can PXE boot any of our PC's or Laptops,m so its just an issue with this damn Surface Pro 3.
    ANy advice?

So I finally got our server guy to enable the logging and get that smspxe.log file to be accessible. So here is the info from the log, when I attempt to PXE boot the Surface. I see the last 2 lines where it ignores the request, I just don't know why its
    ignoring it.

  • Having issues with Surface Pro 3 downloading boot image over PXE

    Hi,
We've recently started to buy the new Surface Pro 3 with the new USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter and we have some issues deploying them through SCCM. Basically, with the Pro 2 and Fast Ethernet adapter we have no issue at all, of course the deployment is
a bit longer than on any other computer, but it is still quite faster than the latest Surface.
We have the new 8.13.414.2014 driver injected in the Win 8.1 boot image for the USB 3.0 Gigabit adapter and all the drivers assigned to the new Surface in SCCM.
The problem occurs when we try to load the boot image after choosing PXE, it takes more than an hour to load it when it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
I tried rolling back to the old driver (8.6.128.2013) and use the Fast Ethernet adapter, use the Fast Ethernet adapter with the new driver and use the new adapter with the old driver, but it's still slow in any case, so
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the new Surface and not the Ethernet adapter.
Anyone have an idea what could be the problem here? Anyone having issues with Surface Pro 3 and SCCM 2012?

I would imagine you have upgraded to R2, have you also applied KB2905002.
This hasn't got anything to do with the TFTP loading phase of the boot image.
Similar thread to this can be found here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a6d80714-dc26-43db-a071-93eaee267122/surface-pro-2-surface-ethernet-adapter-super-slow-pxe?forum=configmanagergeneral
I already asked in that thread the same question, but how about normal PCs that are connected to the same network segment as the Surface devices, do they boot slow also?

  • Image down to a Surface Pro with Windows 8.1 Enterprise use PXE fails at Driver Pack Install

I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 running on windows server 2008 R2 deploying to windows Surface Pro, I am deploying Windows 8.1 Enterprise using PXE.
It gets the pxe response, formats the HD, deploys the image, downloads the driver package, but when it installs the driver package I get a (0xC0000135) error. When it finishes it boots to windows 8.1 but is missing it's drivers. Here is the dism.log

  • OSD to Surface fails to PXE Boot and returns PXEGetPXEData Failed with 0x80004005

Scenario: When trying to Image Windows 8.1 to a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 I have downloaded the latest Surface Firmware and Drivers (August 18th 2014 I believe), the NIC's are in the x64 PXE Boot Image. I have verified that no DHCP Option
67 is set, and that SpanningTree PortFast is enabled. All other Images function correctly, Windows 7 Sp1 works. We use the Microsoft USB NIC, and we PXE boot and download the PXE Image fine, then it comes into windows and goes to detect the NIC, at which point
    it fails and reboots.
The Surface has had Firmware update on it to the latest.
It appears the NIC just stops working, which makes me think that the latest Driver pack for Surface does not contain the PXE boot versions for their NIC.
Trying the Docking Station (which utilizes NIC ASIX AX888772) exhibits the same problem.
The NIC stays active until the OSD Screen comes up, it fails trying to load the Surface NIC though (or the NICs in the Driver pack they just released do not include a PXE Boot Driver...the Drivers once imported do not show any as being Boot Critical...which
make me think this is the case even more so.
Doing a USB PXE Boot also fails to load the NIC.
Going to F8 and doing IPCONFIG /RENEW verifies the NIC is not active.
I see tons of postings on the Surface being a nightmare to image.
    Errors:
Failed to Download pxe variable file. Code (0x0000001)
    PXEGetPXEData Failed with 0x80004005
Anybody having any other experiences out there, or have anything else they could think to try?
    David Baur

(or the NICs in the Driver pack they just released do not include a PXE Boot Driver...the Drivers once imported do not show any as being Boot Critical...which make me think this is the case even more so.
There are no "PXE boot versions" of drivers at all. What you described just indicates that there is no driver in winpe that matches the hardware. WinPe is based on the respective version of the full os so you have to add Win8.x drivers to the boot image.
The architecture also has to match. Have you added NIC drivers to the boot image at all?
NIC drivers are never boot critical if I am not mistaken.

  • Surface Pro 2 freezes briefly - storachi and disk error

    Hello tech net
I am running a surface pro 2 with windows 8.1 (updates current as of 3 days ago), 4 GB RAM, 64GB HD.  For the last several months the device will freeze up for about 5-10 secs multiple times per hour, and then resolve on it's own.  During that
time task manager shows the disk is at 100% and event viewer will display 2 Warnings: an storachi (129) and a disk (153) error.  This is in addition to a service control error (7000) that happens multiple times per second but doesn't seem to
affect performance.  These freezes happen when plugged in, on battery, SDXC card installed or not, wi-fi or not, and no particular program running. It even happens when I'm not using the device if I go back thru event viewer.  The 100% on disk is
not associated with any increase in process or app activity.  Most of the time there are a couple 0.1MB/s demands like outlook, explorer or service host running but nothing that looks unusual when it spikes and freezes.
I am not a tech person and my online search for help has yielded a wide variety of solutions to this problem that didn't seem to be reliable fixes and sounded a little beyond my usual capabilities.  Anyone know if this is fixable or do I need to send
    the device back?
    Thanks!

Not much information here to go on. Can you supply the bdd.log file. Copy to a public share like OneDrive, and share the link.
Typically any problems with format and partition have to do with the storage driver. Are you using the latest ADK from Microsoft? As Surface Pro 2 only supports Windows 8.x, you should *only* be using uEFI mode and GPT.
THe default MDT Task Sequence will do the right thing, *however*, if you change the settings in the "FOrmat and Partition Disk" step, you are then responsible for the settings from then on.

  • Trying to download and install Photoshop Elements and Premium on Surface Pro 3 from the link and receiving an error - anyone know of a resolution?

I have a Surface Pro 3 and just purchased the download link for Photoshop Elements (newest one) from Adobe. I've tried downloading several times and in 64 and 32 bit types, but have only made it as far as the install before receiving an error. Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?

    Hi Jeff -
I tried chatting with someone earlier today, but they ended the session (I think accidentally?) before it was resolved. My error is below. Now chat seems to be closed - although I thought it was open 24/7, so I can't try that again. This is the most frustrating support experience I've ever had. I just want to access and start using the products I purchased Friday. I would be so happy if someone would just help fix this. I am not computer inept, but cannot figure out why the download is failing.
The guy on chat that was helping me before getting cut off had me run a SCANNOW system scan, but that's where the session unexpectedly ended.
    Exit Code: 7
Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example,  ERROR:

  • 8620 prints, but then gives error message on Surface Pro 3

This error message has been bothering me for some time. From day one when I print from my Surface Pro 3, I get an error message that my document (doesn't matter what it is) did not print. About 95% of the time, it actually DID print but I get the error message. So whenever I print, I don't actually know if the error message is bogus or not.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the drivers and apps on my surface, but to no avail. Can anyone help me keep my sanity? Here is an example of the error message from just a little bit ago. Notice the error message in the upper right hand corner. And this "test print" did actually print.
