Surface Pro MDT Install

Have been struggling for a while to get a Surface Pro 3 to install using MDT, PXE boots OK but installation ends with an error relating to the unattend.xml file.  Looking at the setuperr log on the device the error is described thus:
2015-03-05 07:53:52, Error                        [setup.exe] SMI data results dump: Source = Name: Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup, Language:
neutral, ProcessorArchitecture: amd64, PublicKeyToken: 31bf3856ad364e35, VersionScope: nonSxS, /settings/ComputerName
2015-03-05 07:53:52, Error                        [setup.exe] SMI data results dump: Description = Value is invalid.
Eventually worked out that this is related to the length of the serial number on the Surface Pro 3, we use the serial number in MDT to create the Computername.  as this must be 15 characters or less the use of the Surface Pro 3 serial number breaks
this rule when we use our custom computername string WSERC%SerialNumber%, this had worked for ages as we've only installed Dell machines with a 6 digit service tag as the serial number.
Fixed this using the following string WSERC#right("%SerialNumber%",10)#
Surface Pro 3 now installs OK with MDT.

Hi,
Have you follow that guide to check key points?
When you add the driver under Out-Of-Box Drivers for Surface pro, note the last folder must be called “Surface Pro”. If it's for Surface pro 2. it should be the "Surface Pro 2" folder name.   If your Out-Of-Box drivers contain drivers
for other systems and you do not use one of the options in that guide. Then you cannot control what drivers get used during the deployment. This can lead to problems so we would recommend you use Selection Profiles or other methods to ensure only the drivers
designed for the Surface are used during the deployment.
For additional reading on this topic I encourage you to take a look at
this blog.
In addition, you also could consider to use a USB drive to update the firmware offline:

  • Itunes Video Lag on the microsoft surface Pro

    HI,
    I recently purchased a Microsoft surface pro and installed itunes on it to watch all of my store bought series, however i noticed that as soon as i started to watch my purchases the HD content especially would stutter, lag and de sync from the audio playing.
    i was wondering if anyone had similar problems or if anyone knows of a solution
    so far i have tried switching the audio from itunes properties, and it did not work.
    thanks

    Just curious.... has any of you tried the shape dynamics in photoshop and turning on pen pressure?
    and in illustrator to modify the size to pressure and variation to maximum? (and of course select that brush preset that you just modified and draw with it using SHIFT+B for blob brush or B for regular brush)
    I am also interested in purchasing a Surface pro so please report if this helps.
    what I recently discovered in other forums is that Sketchbook Pro works flawlessly in desktop mode. Sketchbook Express in the APP mode doesn't support pressure yet.
    there is no official confirmation that the surface pro uses a wacom digitizer, however a few artist friends of mine have gone to the microsoft store... brought their own wacom pens (cintiq 15x pen - older models that works with general tabletpcs) and the pro recognized it. which means that it is a wacom digitizer. it wouldn't make sense if a wacom pen works with a different digitizer board like N-trig.
    also read in another forum about adobe using wintab and windows 8 wintab drivers are not there yet.
    anyway... I'd be glad to know if this works or not
    thanks!

  • Sharepoint 2010 Surface Pro

    How to upload multiple pictures to a picture library.
    Running SharePoint 2010, Client is Surface Pro.
    Installed Picture Manager 2010.
    Using IE "APP" does not allow the link to upload multiple
    Using Desktop IE the upload multiple files link is there touching it then WebDAV connects and picture manager is launched but then there seems to be no way to select multiple images within the picture manager.

    In SharePoint 2010, the multiple upload requires a few ActiveX controls, so the IE Modern UI App will not work. With Desktop IE, make sure you have an Office 2010 32bit or 2013 32bit client installed with SharePoint Support enabled during the install,
    or SharePoint Designer 2010/2013 if you cannot otherwise get Office client.

  • Surface Pro 3: unable to reimage with MDT 2013

    MDT 2013, Windows 8.1 with all udpates in wim file.
    Download all drivers and firmware
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826 to out of box. Update the Surface Ethernet Adapter in winpe. when i am booting i am getting following error, seems like its looking for "VEN_11AB&DEV_2B38&SUBSYS_045E0001&REV_00"
    i search for hwdid, but didn't find anythings. Any help?
    orion

    Hi there,
    I am using MDT 2013 on a WDS 2008 R2 and everytime i tried to image the tablet via PXE boot through the Surface Pro 3 ethernet adapter, i get this error:
    Wizard Error:
    A connection to the deployment (my deployment share) could not be made.
    The following network device did not have a driver installed.
    PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_2B38&SUBSYS_045E0001&REV_00
    Retry: Try again to connect to the deployment share.
    Cancel: Give up, cancelling any in-progress task sequence.
    PLEASE HELP!
    YOu most likely need to add the microsoft networking adapter to the MDT console, and explicitly add it to the WinPE group. Don't forget to rebuild the deployment share so it regenerates the WinPE iamge.

  • How do I install itunes on a surface pro 2 tablet?

    My ipad won't update through the ipad so I need to do it through my computer but all I have is a surface pro 2 windows tablet and I cant install iTunes on it. Is there anyway to download it for my computer or other ways of updating ipads if it wont work on the ipad??

    iTunes should install on a Surface Pro 2 just like any other PC running Windows 8.1.  If you go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and click the Download iTunes button the next page should give you access to the appropriate installer.  Note, though, that the relatively limited storage, especially on the lower spec models, may limit the size of library you can have without using external storage.  iTunes itself requires 400Mb of free disc space to be installed.
    iTunes does not run on the original Surface and the Surface 2 that run Windows RT.  The new Surface 3 runs full Windows 8.1 and should support iTunes just like the Pro 2 and Pro 3.

  • Installing Creative Design Suite Standard on Microsoft Surface Pro 3

    I am trying to install the Creative Design Suite on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 from a DVD (I recently changed computers and need to transfer my programs to the new machine.  From my research assumed the Surface would work well for my needs and allow me to dabble in Illustrator and Photoshop as I learn the programs).  I am using an external optical drive however the single USB port on the Surface does not seem to get enough power to run the full installation.  I can get the installation started and go so far as to put my in my serial number and then it stops working.  At one point I was even given the notice that it appears my software is counterfeit - which it is not.  I legally purchased it and have used the same disk on another machine.  Is there a way to install the software that would allow me to bypass the usb port/optical drive situation?  One solution I read was to use the disk to transfer the program files to another machine, put them on a jump drive and then run installation on the surface through that - but I don't think I can do that with the serial number situation.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Ideas?
    -I know the smart thing to do would be to upgrade to the cloud, however at this time I am not proficient enough in the programs that I want to pay $20-30 a month for the programs I am trying to learn.  The disk software I currently own is for CS6 and was purchased just before Adobe started using the cloud feature for their programs.

    What issue do you have with downloading the installation files?

  • Is it possible to install and run Acrobat Standard or Pro on a Surface Pro 2 tablet?

    Does anyone know if is possible install and run Acrobat Standard or Professional on a Surface Pro 2?
    and, if is possible to use COM automation to fill AcroForms?
    Thanks and regards,
    Adolfo

    Does it run regular Windows 8 (allowing you to install the same apps as older versions of Windows in the desktop) or does it run Windows 8 RT, where only apps from the Windows Store are allowed? It looks like regular Windows 8, in which case you can try out the free trial of Acrobat Pro.
    If it works, the Acrobat SDK (separate download) has all developer information on Acrobat, and you need it (give up any idea you will find code ready for use on Google...)

  • Wifi on Surface Pro - installed with ndiswrapper but not working

    Hi there guys.
    I have installed Arch on a Surface Pro and most things work well.
    The biggest problem so far is wifi - it comes with a 88w8797 Marvell Avastar chipset. I managed to find the drivers and used ndiswrapper to install them.
    $ ndiswrapper -l
    mwlu97w8 : driver installed
    device (1286:2043) present (alternate driver: mwifiex_usb)
    The ndiswrapper help page says that one should get rid of alternate drivers before enabling ndiswrapper but I have no clue where to start - that seems to be a kernel loaded module (link) but it really doesn't do much apparently.
    I did 'modprobe ndiswrapper' but as you can see below, nothing seems to be really happening
    # iwconfig
    enp0s20u2u3 no wireless extensions.
    lo no wireless extensions.
    dmesg returns this on ndiswrapper
    $ dmesg | grep ndiswrapper
    [ 2.996565] ndiswrapper version 1.58 loaded (smp=yes, preempt=yes)
    [ 4.230024] usbcore: registered new interface driver ndiswrapper
    The gnome network manager, just like iwconfig, shows no able wireless.
    I'm at a loss on what to do, any help is greatly appreciatted

    The blacklisting was a good call as I had completely forgot to do so. Made a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf  with 'install mwifiex_usb /bin/false' -  nothing changed though, the wireless network still won't show.

  • Surface Pro Driver injection no longer working under MDT 2013

    Since upgrading to MDT 2013 we are experiencing an issue with deploying Windows 8.1 to our Surface Pros. The deployment seems to be ignoring driver group settings in CS.ini and it basically injects no drivers. We are following the guide Microsoft posed here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826
    So I'm confused as to where we are going wrong. Here is the section in question from CS.ini:
    [ByModel]
    Subsection=Model-%Model%
    [Model-Surface with Windows 8 Pro]
    OSDComputerName=TAB%SerialNumber%
    DriverGroup001="Windows 8.1 x64\Microsoft\Surface Pro"
    DriverSelectionProfile=Nothing
    XResolution=1920
    YResolution=1080
    Incidentally the computer name is getting set so i know this block is working. Any idea why the drivers would get skipped over?

    I've been deploying to Surface tablets just fine and deployed to a Surface 3 just a couple days ago without any issues, but I do follow Johan's "Total control" way of managing drivers. http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/112/MDT-2013-Lite-Touch-Driver-Management.aspx
    I'd recommend you go that way as well as you'll most likely have fewer issues. Depending on your situation you may also want to make use of the "ModelAliasExit" script and use Make variables or you can just follow the method above exactly as is.

  • Trying to download and install Photoshop Elements and Premium on Surface Pro 3 from the link and receiving an error - anyone know of a resolution?

    I have a Surface Pro 3 and just purchased the download link for Photoshop Elements (newest one) from Adobe. I've tried downloading several times and in 64 and 32 bit types, but have only made it as far as the install before receiving an error. Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?

    Hi Jeff -
    I tried chatting with someone earlier today, but they ended the session (I think accidentally?) before it was resolved. My error is below. Now chat seems to be closed - although I thought it was open 24/7, so I can't try that again. This is the most frustrating support experience I've ever had. I just want to access and start using the products I purchased Friday. I would be so happy if someone would just help fix this. I am not computer inept, but cannot figure out why the download is failing.
    The guy on chat that was helping me before getting cut off had me run a SCANNOW system scan, but that's where the session unexpectedly ended.
    Exit Code: 7
    Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example,  ERROR:

  • Bitlocker TPM + PIN on MS Surface Pro 3 using MDT

    We are new to MDT 2012 and are trying to create a task sequence for Surface Pro 3 Tablets. Everything is going OK apart from Bitlocker. We are required to enable TPM + PIN (yes I've read the articles saying PIN isn't necessary on tablets, but security
    have decided they still want it). To get TPM + PIN working there are a couple of GP settings required - enabling TPM + PIN and enabling pre-boot keyboards on slates.
    To apply these settings we would normally have to join the domain and put the tablet in the correct OU for that Policy, which requires a restart. However once Policy is applying the restart now forces the corporate data warning message and so doesn't continue
    with the sequence. the only solution I can see is to insert the registry settings for these policy settings into the Task Sequence and not do the restart until the end of the sequence. However this seems very messy and could potentially cause maintenance issues
    further down the line if anything needs changing.
    Does anyone have any solutions to this?

    What we had to do was create a deployment OU that blocked pretty much all the domain GP.  Then at the end of the TS we would move machine to its proper OU.

  • MDT 2013 Fails to Format or Partition disk on Surface Pro 3

    I have been trying to image a Surface Pro 3 using MDT 2013 and have been unable to get past the Format and Partition portion of the deployment.  At first I would get an error that it was unable to format or partition the drive and then after that it
    just reboots after trying for so long.  I am able to image any other device with the same task sequence and have no issue just having an issue with the Surface Pro 3.  Any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance.
    I am getting the error FAILURE (5210)
    ZTI Error - Unhandled error returned by ZTIDISKPART: Object required (424)

    I think our problem is also hardware failure although without re-imaging a working surface pro 3 I can't be sure.
    I tried what imfusio suggested in this thread.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d31384bc-4e96-4a5b-a400-637bd6006d81/failure-5456-unable-to-determine-destination-disk-partition-and-or-drive-surface-pro-3?forum=mdt
    Unfortunately the deployment failed with the same ZTI Error - Unhandled error returned by ZTIDISKPART:
    Object required (424)
    I then rebooted into WinPE and ran diskpart, I could see the two volumes (EFI and OSDisk). I then tried to format the OS disk volume using diskpart. I got a paramater is incorrect error and the disk was no longer visible with a 'list disk' command. So it's
    like the format is putting the disk offline. I'm going to try restore one of these surfaces, apply all firmware updates then re-image. If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

  • How to install Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on a Surface Pro 3?

    I have downloaded it many times, but upon trying to install I receive notification that it cannot run on this device. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

    Hey matthewe16314199,
    You might need to tell me whether you are running Windows 8 RT or Windows 8 pro on your Surface pro.
    If it is a Microsoft Surface RT running Windows 8 RT - then you cannot install Acrobat
    http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/surface-with-windows-rt/specifications
    Or if Microsoft Surface Pro running Windows 8 Pro (full version) - then only you can install.
    http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/surface-with-windows-8-pro/specifications
    Please check and then let me know.

    I'm glad your page mentioned the Hyper-V alternative but wish it would elaborate on the potential deficiencies or necessary workarounds.  E.g. regarding mouse pointer or Pen, I have W10TP installed as a Hyper-V guest in my Surface Pro 2 and a silly
    thing with it is I need to use Mouse Sonar (e.g. press a Ctrl- key) to find out where the pointer is before clicking.  After that it works fine.  Heh.  Right now I'm not having that problem symptom but I can't get on fully to test this recollection
    because I have forgotten its password.   ; }
