Surfacing Discussions w/in a legacy portal

We'd like to use Discussions in a legacy intranet web site. I'm assuming we could do that via an <iframe> wth a URL pointing back to a Discussions instance.
The discussions instance will continue be used when we move from the legacy web site to web center.
Does the following make sense:
- bring up webcenter spaces
- create a non-skinned page containing discussions
- configure the discussions instance
- put the url to the discussions page w/in the <iframe> on the existing web site
A caveat is that we'd want users to login, authenticated against A/D, when posting. Presumably thats handled by the spaces instance discussion is "running" in.
Some of the webcenter services docs refer to 10g from 2007. I'm assuming the newer tech is significantly different.
Any thoughts welcome. Thanks ...

Thanks George ...
This may be due to the confusion of dealing with webcenter but the Discussions you refer to is part of the Collab Suite which is/is not part of web center ? You're referring to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25553_01/collab.1012/b25492/discussions.htm , yes ?
If it is part of web center then we can place the discussions forum in the legacy web site before we move the legacy site to spaces. We also have user auth the same as web center. I'm assuming using Collab suite discussions means user auth is different than web center.
Also, we aren't licensed for Collab Suite.

  • Transport discussions and subscriptions to other portal.

    Hi all,
do you have any experience with transport discussions and subscriptions from one portal to another one? I think it could be possible to do it vie ICE transport.
Have you ever try it? Shall I expect any problems?
Thanks in advance for every reply!
    Bertuccio

    Hi Bertuccio,
ICE transport is used for transporting mainly KM content. There will not be any issue for doing ICE transport, but make sure that you will not select large amount of KM data to do the ICE transport.
Please refer below link which has all the required details for ICE transport,

  • Importing to Discussion Board Post from legacy source

    Hi All,
Im sure im not the first to wonder or ask this question but here it goes.
We have recently moved out intranet to SharePoint 2013. We have rebuilt from the ground up using many of the out of box solutions as well as some third party apps and web parts however these is one aspect that is stumping us.
On our old intranet we use a SQL based forum/discussion board package which has
about ten years worth of posts, surveys, Q&As etc. As it is SQL based it is very easy for use to query and pull this legacy data however
we cannot find a way to import into SharePoint. We do not expect to import it all but would like to import at leas the last 12 months of submitted
data with at least basic fields like Title, description/content, tags, post date and post user. We do not mind other metadata being striped out like voting etc.
We have dug deep into the SharePoint database files to see if we can directly insert but
it is very complex and almost certainly not supported. We was also hoping for a discussion board data list view so we could bulk cut and paste. This is not ideal but would at least be a better option than manually inserting each post.
Does anybody have an idea where to start if at all possible.
    Mark

    Won't keep me logged in,
This is a server problem. In other words, "don't adjust your dial!"
    spinning balls,
All this means is that the rendering is slowed down by something in the design of the website. If it is a thread with over 500 posts, you probably will have difficulty viewing it, unless you have a high speed internet connection with low latency, enough hard disk space to cache the files, and/or view threads in tree mode. To use Tree mode, go to My Settings, and select Tree View under Topic Page View in the General SEttings.
    Bad Request
Sometimes will happen if your internet service provider is behind a backbone with significant peering issues.
So how big is your hard drive?
How much free disk space is there?
Have you tried to empty the browser cache?
Does this issue happen with short threads as well as long ones?
Do you have any system modification software such as Speed Download, PthHelmet, or other browser enhancement software?
Are you sure all your software is known to be Snow Leopard compatible?

  • *Access to Portal Via Company Website*

Our company has a website running on oracle which I am addressing here as legacy portal. The employee data is maintainted in SAP and we have recently implemented ECM which is currently being performed through the SAP portal.
We want to introduce the SAP portal link in the legacy portal and avoid the scenario where the user is being challenged to login to the portal.
Our legacy portal is PGP ready and the team pertty much wants to use PGP using which the following will happen.
    1. User will login to the legacy portal and click on the link which will direct them to SAP portal
    2. We send the user ID and the PGP encrypted password to the SAP portal from the legacy portal
    3. Question: How and where do we have to implement the decryption functionality
    4. Question: How is the UID and decrypted PWD going to be used to automatically login to the SAP portal
Is there a better and, more importantly, simpler workaround to acheive this objective without PGP?
    Appreicate your responses.

Your approach has several security design weaknesses in it, particularly relying on the fact that the passwords are the same in different systems, and making them (remotely) decryptable.
How does the user authenticate against the legacy portal and is there a Single-Sign-On technology which both portals support? That is actually what you are looking for, ideally re-authenticating the client user based on a common identity provider service.
System trust-chains are not optimal either, but password-chains are by far the worst option...

  • Portal Integration of an existing Web Application

    Dear all,
we are preparing for the pbnw certification. Our way is to deploy our existing web application on the J2EE engine and make it accessible via the portal, i.e. where are taking the certification scenarios J2EE-DEP and BP-EP.
Up to now, my idea is to integrate the web surface of our application into the portal as far as this is possible without too much effort. Alternatively it would be possible to access our application via an URL-iView however to my feeling this is not a real integration. Did I get things right assuming that would meet the requirements for pbnw certification?
I read that it is necessary to follow the portal's look and feel by applying SAP's CSS. Does anyone know where to obtain these? And what is the easiest way to replace the currently used stylesheets by them?
    Millions of questions...
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Angela Grüner.

    Dear Angela
Please have a look at the following Weblog link which gives a detailed description of the method to create a URL iView using Application Integrator:
    /people/markus.pfeffer/blog/2005/12/14/integrating-your-web-front-ends-into-the-sap-enterprise-portal-using-the-application-integrator
If you adopt this method to create the URL iView, then it meets the requirement for EP-BP Certification.
The blog also includes an example of HTML code with applied SAP CSS. Please go through this section to implement EP look and feel.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can anyone recommend a Discussion forum that works with SSO?

    Hey,
For a medium sized customer we are in the process of trying to find a discussion forum that they can use.
I was wondering if anyone have any other discussion forums, free or not, that they have implemented and works good with SSO and access restrictions?
We need to implement access restriction based on oracle application server user groups, and have SSO sign you in both to the discussion forum, and to the portal in general.
    Grateful for any answers,

And welcome to apple discussions. LaCie is actually one of the better S-Drives for mac in terms of an external burner (at least from reading this forum). • Will Portal migrate to Tomcat?

I have a question regarding iAS and Portals use of Jserv.
    A few quotes from www.apache.org:
"Our most widely used project, JServ, will also be migrated, but as it has already been noted, JServ is in a bug fix only mode. No new features will be added and no new development will occur. As a replacement for JServ, we recommend that you please evaluate the Tomcat servlet engine for your needs as it implements the latest Servlet API specifications and that is where all active development is occuring."
"3 July 2000 Apache JServ has been chosen (along with Apache httpd) by Oracle for use in their Internet Application Server product. The Java Apache Project is proud to have our software commercially endorsed. Hopefully they will also migrate to the Jakarta Tomcat servlet engine which supports the latest Servlet API and JSP specifications out of the box."
My question is: will Oracle migrate to Tomcat, and if so: When?
    Best regards,
    Rune Lxvnfseth

I've passed your question on to the Application Server Product Managers. Look for a reply directly from them. This discussion is focused on Oracle9iAS Portal rather than the Application Server.

  • Help needed with Sun Java Studio Creator and EJB in a Portlet Project

    Hi
I have created an web-application with JSF in Sun Java Studio Creator 2. The web application uses a lot of EJB's which acts as the dataProviders. In a typical jsp page i have more that one data providers(the EJB's) getting used. When i run the project everything opens up properly in the browser and the application seems to be fine.
But when i create a JSP 168 Portlet project and do exactly the same thing for some reason the Apache Pluto(comes as the default Portlet Container with Studio Creator) conks off.
Then i started going ahead step by step:
    1. First i created a portletpage and added only one dataProvider(EJB) and ran the project...It gets deployed properly in Pluto and the browser comes up and everything shows up fine.
    2. Just to re-confirm i did the same thing with another dataProvider(EJB). So still we have just 1 EJB in the portlet page. As expected it also worked fiine.
    3. Then when I added more that one dataProviders(EJBs) in the porlet page the Apache Pluto conks off(saying that Pluto is not available)
I tried doing a lot of things but nothing works...Surprisingly the same thing works when u create a JSF web Application project but the same thing does not work when u create a JSR 168 JSF Portlet Project...
Did anybody face the same problem..Is it a bug in the Studio Creator...Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • How to connect a Desktop app to a middle teir server app?

Please tell me if i have posted this in the incorrect forum.
I currently have a Desktop app that connects directly to a mySQL database. The persistence abilities have been really helpful since our database is still evolving. I have been frustrated by the differences in the SE persistence implementation. I have had to do some hackish things to ensure that the app retrieves the current information. I don't like connecting directly to the database from the desktop app, even though security is not a worry. I have been thinking that the best solution is to have a JEE app running that the desktop app connects to. This also would act as a sort of api for accessing our data, so if and when i create other client desktop apps i don't have to recreate the wheel. From what i gather i will want to run an application server such as tomcat or glassfish. I'm not sure if i understand why though. Since i have control of the server, couldn't i directly open ports for communication to the clients?
Assuming that there are many ways to pass information between them, advice on the most effective would be nice. I'm guessing serializing objects for passing would be the fastest, but using something like XML, would be a lot easier to monitor.
Although i have done a lot of reading, i'm still baffled by the EE lingo.
EJB: kind of like a modular program that facilitates server to server communication?
JSF: package up stuff for viewing/ running an application through a browser?
Servlets: Mystifying, which leads me to think that they are what i'm looking for.
Any advice would be helpful. I'm hoping that there is not some type of restriction in regards to connecting a JSE6 app to a JEE6 app. I basically want to have the best of both worlds.
    Thank you,
    Chip

    Chipper wrote:
From what i gather i will want to run an application server such as tomcat or glassfish. I'm not sure if i understand why though. If you have a middle teir, you imply that you want frontend and a backend also, the function of the middle teir is to insolate and abstract the backend from the frontend. This is the significant difference from what you have now: client server--frontend and a backend.
The middle tier, as you have implied, is where you put your access to your backend. And, yes, you are creating an interface to your DB there, wherein you will develop an entire API for accessing your DB. This will give you added security by not letting your clients know anything about your backend.
Now, how do you access this middle tier? There are several options there, but a few options are:
1 - Running direct socket communication
2 - Web Services: code ran on the server to extend the functionality and open services on the middle tier.
3 - Applets: code ran in the browser on client side to access the server and it's services.
Assuming that there are many ways to pass information between them, advice on the most effective would be nice. I'm guessing serializing objects for passing would be the fastest, but using something like XML, would be a lot easier to monitor. At this point you are the only one that can answer that question: there are arguments for an against most method that could be picked. Let's take for instance an object that contains 1 usable byte of data. Is it better to serialize the object for that one byte? Send XML to a DB? Or, perhaps, just send the byte of info and synthesize appropriate key information? You have to look at what you are trying to achieve and your requirements.
Even a scratch of the surface discussion is not possible here, let alone, a howto on implementation for your enterprise. I suggest hitting the tutorials and finding a good book.
Do you have specific questions? Ones that can be answered in a paragraph or two.

  • How to make Webgate redirect to a specific resource based on AD Attributes?

My client has already purchased Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, which contains the OID 11g suite. They have an initiative to enable SSO based access to their business apps for both internal and external users. They have already implemented AD and also FMW 11g with OID integrated with AD.
We need to provide a path way for legacy portals to integrate into this environment. One the goals is to have a single URL (let's call it one.company.com) by which employees, customers & business partners access all business applications. The long term goal is to leverage WebCenter to be the portal framework, which provides access to all business app. However, the client has prioritized the SSO integration over the portal framework integration at this point.
So the interim solution needs to address the following use case:
    Internal User:
    1. Log into workstation via MS AD DC, get Kerberos token set on workstation.
    2. Open browser and navigate to https://one.company.com, browser either silently authenticates via Windows Native Authentication (IE for example) or presents user a challenge box asking for authen&author creds (FF for example).
    3. WebGate installed on OHS works with OAM (which works with OID) to authenticate the user, assume Auth OK
    4. <Some Component> works with OAM to obtain user's roles. If user has role 1 redirect to site 1 (assume this is the legacy portal, which has been modified to work with Oracle SSO), otherwise if user has role 2, then redirect to site 2 (assume this is web center)
The reference to <Some Component> in #4 is what we need help answering. We suspect it is WebGate, and from some reading I have done I know that there are apache directives that can be used to do conditional redirects. I'm just missing the link between getting the roles out of OAM and instructing the web server which resource to redirect to based on OID role.
We also have a very similar use case for external access (to the same site, https://one.company.com). It will be assumed that all users are AD enabled even external ones. For external access, all users will first land on a company wide common login page, which will ask for AD user name & pwd. After submitting credentials, the same scenario plays from above, starting at step 3. All applications will be programmed to read the obssoToken (via browser cookie or server headers) to understand user details.
Has anyone had to architect this kind of deployment before? If so, how did you deal with it? Was it as simple as the whole WebGate/Apache redirect setup I am thinking of?
    Thanks,
    FM

I choked on my mango lassi while reading this..but as our chinese brothers and sisters say, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

But let's say FF doesn't do Kerberos or let's say it's an external user. Have you tried implementing this mechanism with OAM 11g? I would start there. You may not get to your next steps.

  • Batch creation of users

    Hello,
I need to register 15.000 users in my Portal. Noway I'm going to do this by hand.
I followed some discussion about user creation but still have some problems.
    I create users using:
    -portal30_sso.wwsso_ls_private.get_default_user_config
    - portal30_sso.wwsso_ls_private.ls_create_user
    - wwsec_api.activate_portal_user
This works fine and I can login. But ..
when I try to add the Account Information with procedure wwsec_api.modify_portal_user this has no result. The PDK-documentation is not correct because I need to specify more parameters than in the example. Netherless when I do this I still cann't look up the data under Account Information when the user logs in.
My second question concerns the last login date/time of a user. Which function is available to deliver this handy info. I want to show changes in my site since the last login of a user.
My third question, oh boy, concerns notification. Although perhaps not an issue for this discussion group it looks like Portal has some kind of mail notification system but where and how to use isn't clear for my. Maybe you could give me a brief explanation for this feature.
    Thanks, DJ
