Surprise solution to error uploading a book

Just by chance I stumbled across the (my) solution to this mysterious problem concerning the upload of a book, which always stopped at 64 kb with an error message eventually:
First, I used Cocktail to repair permissions and do the routine system maintenance.
But, more importantly, I suddenly remembered this application by Allume Systems, "Internet Cleanup". This software contains a feature called "Net Blocking" and "Spy Alert", meant to help keeping out malicious net attacks. I turned these features off, and suddenly everything went smoothly.
Maybe this will only help those who have this software as well, but also I think after this I would encourage everybody with similar problems to investigate all possible net-blocking and firewall software.
Hope this is at least a bit useful...

Yes, you are absolutely right. I noticed there is a list of apps in the preferences that are allowed to send, for example iTunes is among them. You can configure this list, of course and add/remove what you like. But I didn't bother and will keep it deactivated. For that purpose I have been quite happy with "Little Snitch" (shareware) that does the job very efficiently and easy-to-use.

  • Upload to Blurb fails after exactly 30 minutes (There was an error uploading your book's pages...)

After exactly 30 minutes after the upload has started, I get this error:
There was an error uploading your book's pages.  Would you like to try again?  The choices given are "Retry Upload" and :"Cancel"
When I retry, the same thing happens - fails after exacly 30 minutes.  I am using a window 7 pc (with Service Pack 1) and using Lightroom 5.4.  I have turned off my firewall and antivirus programs, rebooted, and connected directly to my router (not wireless) and ensuring my pc does not go to sleep, but did nothing I try wil help.
Anyone else get this?  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hello,
I had this problem as well - the upload to Blurb would not work. Creation of a PDF and export as JPEG in the book module worked.
For me, the solution was to turn off the Windows Firewall while uploading. Now it works!

  • Error uploading photo book

I have a 50 page book I have ordered before using iphoto. It came out beautifully. I wanted to order another copy and now the book assembles fine, but I get an error during upload of the 50 meg book. The upload seems to work fine for about 7-10 meg, then stalls for about a minute, then zips up to 50 meg and there is an error message saying, there was an error uploading, please try again.
All this from the same computer I successfully ordered it from several weeks ago.
    Any thoughts?
Also, does anyone know who I should contact at Apple about this??
    Thanks,
    Paul

here is the link to Apple's ordering problem page - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/account_troubleshooting/
Also note that you can do an exact reorder without uploading within 40 days - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/ordering_options/ - maybe that will help you out
Can Apple reprocess a previous order?
Apple stores the image files of book, card, and calendar orders for 40 days, and print orders for 20 days, from the date of purchase. We will be unable to reprocess an order on your behalf once the files have been removed from our servers. To ask Apple to reprint a previous order, please email us using the form below.
Note: Reprocessed orders will ship to the same address and be charged to the same credit card listed on the original order.

  • Error uploading iphoto book

I am using iphoto 6.0.4. I keep getting an error while trying to upload pictures. It assembles the book okay then always gets stuck at "transferring 119k of 15.1 MB" for a while then an error message pops up saying there was an error with one of the files, try again? If I hit 'try again', it reads 15.1MB of 15.1MB but doesn't ever do anything. I would really like to order a few books but can't seem to get past the ordering page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi again Tracy,
Before going any further I would create a new user account on your computer and try to send a book from over there. This is help eliminate the possibility that there is something wrong with just your user account.
For instructions on creating a new account go here --> http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
    If that fails then continue:
I wonder if you have ever been able to order books in the past. It sounds like the upload speed on your internet connection might be too slow for the iphoto print server.
I'm not familiar with "Direcway". Is this cable, dsl, fiberoptic, or satellite?
If its Satellite we can probably stop right here. Satellite internet is NOTORIOUS for having poor upload speeds and intermittent connection quality.
If it is satellite read my following comments and give them a shot just to cover your bases.
If you are running your computer through a router or hub like an Airport Extreme, Linksys, etc. I would recommend plugging your computer directly into the internet (modem or whatever you have in your setup). By bypassing this extra devices you eliminate possible interference from those device and devote as much speed to your computer as possible.
Often ISPs will save cost by giving us high download speeds so we can us web sites with relative ease. But the upload speed (or ability to send data out) is fairly slow.
You have to have a good solid connection (not a lot of packet loss) that is running at a minimum speed of 152 kbps or twice that of a standard telephone modem running 56k.
To test your connection you can go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest this will check your upload and download speed.
Essentially if your upload speed is very low or it looses a lot of data in transit (packet loss) there isn't much you can do on the computer end. Its an issue with your ISP.
If all else fails you may want to use a friends computer to publish your book if they have access to a different connection type. You can also look to see if there is an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Reseller (not to mention an Apple Store, which would be perfect) in your area. http://www.apple.com/buy/
You can copy your iphoto library onto a CD/DVD and take it in. You can then publish from their computer.
    I hope that helps.
Please check back if you need further assistance.
    Cheers!

  • I made an error in the book I uploaded.

I made an error in the book I uploaded 12 hours ago. Can I correct the error in the uploaded copy or re-upload the book without buying it again?

No - you have 90 minutes to cancel an order - then it is moved into the production status and can not be modified
    in the future
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Cannot upload iphoto book - issues

This has been a recurring problem and to be honest it is very frustrating.  Here is a summary of my issues:
    1. Book upload (generally in most cases is a XLarge, 50+ pages) gets all the way to the end and - "An error occurred uploading your order".  I retry, an hour or two later same thing.  This has happened on my last 8 attempts on 2 different books.
I have tried the following fixes:
    - installing mavericks and new iphoto
    - using hard wired ethernet cable as opposed to wifi
    - doing all the suggested fixes from these forums, plists and all that.
    - my apple ID is fine - works for everyrhing else.
I had a run a little while back when using the ethernet cable that all my books worked, 6+ over a 6 week period Mar-Apr but recently (this last month) back to failure.
*** Apple? What is happening?  No one can find a solution.  Apple over the phone support cannot help, they dont have a fix.  The books are nice, I'd rather not have to go elsewhere, but seriously this is beyond a joke.
    Any suggestions welcome, please......

    Ok,
I solved my own problem and frankly i'm amazed.
I followed some suggested tips like booting in safe mode but I didnt upload the book in that.
I ran a speed test for my internet, my upload was 0.43mbps, fairly standard for ADSL2+ in Australia.  This probably explains why it was taking 2+ hours to upload.  During that time I guess anything can happen with my line, hence the failures if the internet drops out.
I used my iPhone to tether.  I found the place in my housed with the best 4G/LTE reception - 1 bar off full coverage. Began the book upload.  IT TOOK LESS THAN 2 MINUTES to upload an 80 page book.
I still cant believe it.  I'm thankful 4G coverage has recently come to my area.  This will be my method to upload books every time!!
    I'm quite happy.
So my suggestion is that if your books are slow to upload or fail during the process, check your upload speed and if you can tether from an iphone or 4G device, give it a try worked for me - amazingly well.

When making a photo book, my iPhoto freezes during uploading the book to the storey.  I have attempted this 4 times now and I don't know what to do! I know the file size is massive due quantity of large image files, but I don't want to reduce the image file size and compromise quality in the book. How can I get past this?
    My macbook air is os x 10.9, using iPhoto 11 9.5 (902.7).

Try Old Toad's solution here:   See   Re: iphoto : upload impossible to print a book
Try to boot into Safe Mode and order this way, or sign into a different user account and try to order as a different user.

  • InDesign CS5.5 crashes when uploading a book to blurb via the Blurb plugin

I am trying to upload a book from InDesgin CS5.5 to Blurb via the Blurb plugin. Whenever I do the preflight starts as it should and gets about 2/3 of the way through before InDesign closes and I get an error message coming up saying that InDesign has closes unexpectedly.
I spoke to Blurb and they suggested exporting the book as a pdf with their pdf export settings. This worked fine for the book cover but with the pages of the book the same thing happened as when trying to upload it directly to Blurb. When I try to export it as a pdf with my own export settings it works fine, its just the blurb preset that seems to be an issue.
When I mentioned this to blurb they said it must be a problem on Adobes end not theirs.
Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
My system is a Mac OS X 10.7.5 and the error message I get is attached below:

Thanks for the suggestion. I've done that but it still crashed at the same place with the same error message:

  • Why am I getting an "error uploading" message?

In the past I have had no problem uploading books for printing in iPhoto 6.0.4. I have tried several times today to upload a book I had printed previously. Keep getting an "error in uploading one of your files" message. My internet connection (cable) is working fine. Any ideas?
    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Add my name to this list...
Four tries last night to upload a 17.7 MB calendar, and it seemed to upload fine each time. As soon as the upload progress bar showed it had been completed, I got that same "Error in uploading one of your files" message.
In creating this calendar, I had run into an odd issue where one of the calendar dates (from iCal) would not display in the same font as the others. This occured after I changed the background color of a single calendar page, the one that contained that date.
Did anyone else run into something like this when creating their calendar? I ask wondering whether we all have some sort of file corruption that is causing the rejection of the file as soon as it is examined after uploading.

  • When I finally 'upload' a book from iphoto my computer freezes.  Can you help?

When I finally 'upload' a book from iphoto my computer freezes.  Can you help?

Boot into Safe Mode and try again.
    If that doesn't work:
Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Frequent "Error: Upload Failed" errors.

I've been getting reports from my faculty members that every time they try to upload media to their course, they get "Error: Upload Failed". I tested it this morning and I'm getting this error as well.
Is iTunes U having problems or is there a way to find out a cause for this error?
    Our site is ucf.edu.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hello Duncan,
Has a solution been found yet? We are having the same issue crop up for our internal iTunes U site (https://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/BrowsePrivately/su.edu).
Additional information: we've noticed that (prior to the "Error: Upload Failed" message) when the upload begins, it says "In Queue" but never changes to "1.0 of 20.0 mb," "3.4 of 20.0 mb," etc.
We've seen this issue when accessing the Upload and Manage Files page through Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.
We are looking at weather cancellations possible in the next few days and really need to be able to upload material to iTunes U to continue classes.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Error upload fotoboek

Hi. I am trying to order a photobook. However the upload is very slow and provides an error, which results in a cancellation of the order. I have tried several times now, but cannot find a solution. Does anybody know?

I did not change password. It is not password issue.
    According to Oracle support,
    1) the error "2010-02-04 14:11:50 Thread-352 ERROR upload: Error in uploadXMLFiles. Trying again in 60.00 seconds" can be ignored.
    2) The error: 2010-02-05 02:52:19 Thread-3864 ERROR util.files: nmeufile_remove D:/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/orsvp04.OCTAGONRESEARCH.COM_vp/sysman/recv\00000000365.lk: Error in lfidlb. Error = 0 (No error)
could be because I used "emctl start agent" , which are not allowed command for DBconsole. The correct one is "emctl start dbconsole"
    Thanks for your input!

  • Texts/fonts error while sending book to Blurb & exporting to PDF

On my new MacbookPro using Lightroom Creative Cloud just downloaded, I find I can't upload my book to Blurb or export it to PDF (Blurb's recommended workaround).  I both efforts, I get an error message that "an error occurred while adding texts & fonts to the book."  I'm using LR's supplied fonts in the same manner as prior books which successfully uploaded to Blurb (from my old PC).  A workaround using a flattened PS pdf file is beyond me.  Any suggestions?

I am having exactly the same issues. I get the same error message sending to Blurb or pdf. I tested all my fonts in another book, and that uploaded just fine, so it can't be the fonts on their own. I also tried this in LR5 prior to upgrading to LR6 CC, same problem.
I have noticed a few of these queries here in the discussions and none of the others have been responded to either. Someone, please help!
