Surprising problem with importing files in iTunes 8

iTunes has suddenly started acting a bit strange. Here's the situation:
I downloaded some albums from eMusic. I have been an eMusic subscriber since 2005 and have imported hundreds of albums into previous versions of iTunes with no problem.
Today, suddenly, iTunes refuses to import some albums, imports random individual tracks from other albums (but not the entire album), and imports some albums in their entirety with no problem.
I've dragged folders and individual files to iTunes and used the "Add to Library" command to select folders and individual files. I've restarted iTunes, restarted the MacBook, unmounted the external drive, and remounted the external drive. I repaired permissions. I verified the external drive (it appears to be healthy). The result is always the same.
For example:
iTunes will not import John Coltrane's "Lush Life" at all.
iTunes imports the last 4 tracks of "Thunder" by SMV, but not the first 8.
iTunes imports all of "Live" by Pharoah Sanders.
What's going on?
Some info: iTunes Library contains 25033 items, 78.5 days, 149.62 GB.
The external drive on which my iTunes Library resides has 283.76 GB available.
My internal hard drive (a 200 GB Hitachi) has 106.46 available.
I am running file vault: could that have something to do with it?
I'll appreciate any suggestions and or help. Thanks.

wow
I was just thinking about downloading 8 but not until I hear more about this.
I just joined emusic and downloading is a breeze with 7. It goes straight into iTunes without having to import separately.
I was going to check out the emusic forum but it was down.

Doublechecking, roy. After making the preferences change, are you leaving the General tab by clicking the OK button down the bottom-right-hand corner of the tab?

  • Problem with import files from windows media player into iTunes

When I have tried to import my .wav lossless files created under windows media player into iTunes I use File, add folder to library but when the action is completed I get all of the files under the heading 'unknown album' with 'unknown artist'.
Does anyone know that I need to do in order to include the artist and album ?
    Many thanks,
    John.

You'll first need to add the MP3s to your iTunes library since the iPod is not compatible with Windows Media Player. You can use, for example, the File > Add to Library menu to do this.

  • Problems with importing songs in iTunes

    Hi there
I have deleted my entire iTunes-library. Now, I want to import the songs again. I chose File -> Add folder to library... -> iTunes music (I have all my music in this folder).
The problem is that not everything gets imported, about 30% is missing in the library. I think those songs are missing which are in a second underfolder in the iTunes music. E.g. ...\iTunes music\Band A\Album B\Song C with e.g. ...\iTunes music\Album A\Song B it works.
And even if I want to import those folders manually, it doesn't work (even if it loads).
Does anybody know, what the reason for this is?
    Thank you in advance!
    Kind regards
    Dominic

    I'm having a similar problem.
Every now and then, a track from a ripped CD or from iTunes or from eMusic will "look" OK in iTunes (or on my iPod), but when the track plays, it gets partially through and it jumps to the next track in the playlist.
For example, if playback of track 1 pauses and jumps to track 2 at 1:30 into playback of track 1, & I click on 1:31 or later in track 1, the rest of track 1 will play fine. But if the playback of track 1 starts at the before the "skip point," the track will stop & iTunes (or iPod) goes on to the next track in the playlist. If I locate the file (on my external drive) and play it in the finder, there's always buzzing sound at the point where the iTunes jumps to the next track.
For ripped CD's this is not a huge deal, I just re-rip & usually all is well. With eMusic, I can download again, but with iTunes, I have to file a complaint & so far they've just credited my account, which is OK, but time consuming.
At first I thought the problem was with my optical drive, but then the problem started happening with downloads from iTunes and eMusic as well. NONE of these shenanigans happened before I upgraded to iTunes 7.6, so I'm wondering if that's where the problem is. One thing's for sure: I'm not going to "jump" at the next upgrade of iTunes!
I'm totally stumped & bummed. iTunes used to be a really good friend, now I find myself wondering if I should bother with putting my entire CD collection on iTunes if it's no longer as reliable as it used to be.

  • I have problems with importing music to iTunes, can somebody please help me?

I have all my music organized on an external hard disc in folders for each artist and album, but I can only import some of the folders. It’s like iTunes isn’t registering specific folders, and just skip these folders while the rest of the folders is added as normal. I have tried to add the missing folders manually but it doesn’t help.  I simply can’t add some music to iTunes, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

It's the file attributes. The files will add but when you try to add a folder it doesn't work. You can get a bulk attribute changer progeam like BulkFileChanger and get rid of the Hidden and archive attributes, This fixed my problem.

  • Problems with importing files from iPhoto to Aperture3?

I have just received my new iMac with Aperture3 pre-installed.
When I try to import the iPhoto Library (File - Import - iPhoto Library..) or try to import a single picture, the picture shows pixilated in Aperture3. When I try to import the iPhoto Library - Aperture shows one pixilated picture from the folder and then it works forever trying to get thumbnails for the rest.
    Nothing happens.
    What can I do?
The format for the pictures are jpg.

But this iPhoto Library came from somewhere else? Right? From another machine? So, how did those photos get into that iPhoto Library? Did you import one Library to another? I ask as this is one of the ways you could find yourself working with thumbnails and not the actual images.

  • Tempo problems with imported wav files

Hey everyone, sorry if there's a quick fix for this in the forums that I couldn't find, but I've been having some tempo problems with imported .wav files.
Long story short, my system couldn't handle playing all the tracks for a song while recording drums, so I bounced out an mp3 of the song and put it in a new Logic file so my drummer could just play along to that as I recorded him. Unfortunately, the original song is at 167 bpm, but I forgot to change the bpm in the new Logic file with the .mp3 file of the song to 167 bpm, so it was left at the default 120 bpm.
So, the drums were recorded at the correct 167 bpm, but Logic thinks that those new drum .wav files should be played at 120 bpm, so when I import my drum tracks back into the original file, they do not play correctly at all.
I could get record it all again, but I wanted to check if there was a way I could salvage what I already have, since my drummer lives about an hour away right now and can't just come over whenever he wants.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

    Hi,
First, do not use MP3 in Logic, the sound quality is less than AIFF, WAV or CAF, and Logic has to decode it for playback, making it a heavier burden on the CPU than an uncoded audiofile, such as AIFF, WAV or CAF.
Secondly, audio files are independent of Logic's tempo. If you bounce down an audio file in any format (other than Apple Loop), it will play back at the same speed, +regardless of Logics' tempo setting+, either at recording or playback. Logic doesn't 'think' anything. The BPM is only important to MIDI tracks, or to the spacing between audio files. The audio files themselves *are not affected* by the tempo setting. If you import an audio file of tempo 167 into a 120 BPM project, the file will still play at 167, only Logic will indicate the wrong bar positions.
    regards, Erik.

  • Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Importing problems with MP4 files.

A friend of mine wanted me to make a DVD  with some media files that they sent me (all with .mp4 extentions). I've just purchased CS6 Premuin Pro so I thought I'd try ENCORE to do it with (previously I've been using DVDStyler). However I had problems with importing the mp4 files they sent. Some of the files import OK, but with others I get this error:
Couldn't import file FILENAME, Quicktime and/or the appropriate codec do not appear to be installed.
Now I did have Quicktime Alternative, along with the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. Did a bit of searching and found advice to remove the K-Lite pack and Quicktime Alternative, and update with Quicktime and another set of Codecs (I've installed the Windows 7 codec pack v4.06, as I'm using Win7). However, I'm still getting the same error message when I try and import some of the files. I don't know their origin or what created them as such. However, I did download a copy of MediaInfo and got the following for each type of file.

Just what is the problem here? Why will the first type of file import OK, but the second not, and what can be done about that (do I need to load an extra codec, and if so what)?  The odd thing is that using a program like DVDStyler, I can load those files and actually build a DVD. And yes, I know that's an entirely different program, but it just seems odd to me that an open-source program seems to do something Encore can't (and I'd much rather use Encore to build DVDs). No doubt this is something obvious but I'm a novice with Encore and Premiere, so I'm missing it anyway.

Codec packs, even the "better" ones, do not typically provide codecs that Premiere and Encore can use.
The "problem" file is a flash format (whether it is an mp4 container or not).
"Consumer" type DVD authoring/burning applications, and even more so, all in one apps like windows movie maker etc, may be more "powerful" when you are trying to take a large range of formats and create a DVD with relatively few options. This is not Encore's strength.
Encore will reject almost anything that has flaws it isn't able to handle, but more importantly (once you get to this step), it will treat as noncompliant (and  re-transcode) anything that is not DVD compliant.
My guess is that you need to get  the flash into something that will work better for transcoding to DVD compliant.
I would first try to bring one of the problem files into Adobe Media Encore, and see if you can export an MPEG2-DVD file.
Not that, while there are some less known DVD resolutions, I assume you are going to end up with 720x576 PAL. I wonder what the quality will look like....
If you are just looking to get the files onto a DVD to play on a DVD player, just stick with DVDStyler.

  • Problems with import of static files/images

I have a series of static files (such as jquery/jquery ui libraries) that we have been storing in WORKSPACE_IMAGES. We had hoped to be able to export the static files and use our automated build process to import the files via sqlplus. However, I have run into problems with the files being "corrupted"...either they don't show up at all in firebug, or one file contains parts of another file, rendering it useless. If I delete these files and re-upload them separately through the builder, then I don't have any problems.
I can only assume there is some perhaps special character or some other issue that I'm not aware of either during the export process or the import process.
My first preference would be to store these files on the app server, but unfortunately that's not on the table at the moment.
Any ideas what would be causing the issues here?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeff

    Hello all,
This is an old thread, but it's an old problem that I'm concerned may still be continuing.
We're moving from 3.2 to 4.1. While copying our applications from 3.2 to a test 4.1 installation, we did a static file export for "All static files" from 3.2 and did an import to 4.1. We're seeing the same behavior that I and others have reported in the past - any static files that are javascript are corrupted when "all static files" was chosen. Exporting/importing each javascript static file individually appears to work fine.
If the bug was in 3.2 in that it was generating a corrupted export file when "all static files" is chosen, then I'm not concerned - we're moving from 3.2 anyway. But, if the issue is in the import then it must still exist in 4.1 and that would be a concern.
Does anyone know if this was a recognized bug in 3.2 and has since been corrected?
    Thanks!
    John
