Surreptitious recording of Skype calls

I was just on Skype with a friend who I communicate with often, however this was the first time from his new iPad.
At one point we got disconnected, not unusual as he's in Australia and I am in US, so I sent a IM saying call back etc.
When we got reconnected, his iPad displayed a message "Skype Recording" in RED colour across the top information line of his iPad (where it tells you signal strength etc.)
For the last 10 days when I re-boot my computer Windows Firewall tells me it is blocking "some features of Skype" so I tell it to unblock and then everything is OK, i.e.. Skype starts normally etc.
I use "SpyBot Search and Destroy" as well as "AVG" and "Sophos" as anti-virus and they have not found anything suspicious.
Could I be infected with something that is not discoverable by those anti-virus software ?
Any help / informed opinion would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paranoid in USA

afaik, that is a feature of the iPad and not of Skype.  as far as I remember, it is some sort of iPad notification indicating that the iPad's microphone is being used by another application, which in this case, the Skype App.  try browsing the iOS/iPad section of this forum for similar threads.

  • How do I record Skype calls using CS4 Soundbooth?

    Hello All,
I'd like to use CS4 Soundbooth to record my Skype calls for a podcast.  How do I do that?  If anybody can help me out, I would be very grateful.  Thanks!

Which model call phone are you using? If you are a Windows Mobile user, then it will become an easy job. The software ----wm sound recorder can help you to record calls and sms. Then you can record your calls easily.
Maybe you can have a look at :http://www.wmsoundrecorder.com/index.html

  • Skype recording messages and calls?

Salutations. So today I'm going to confront you with a hypothesis I've composed. Back before Skype had been bought from Microsoft, they had recorded calls and messages and stored them away. Those mentioned things would get run through their system. I've been suggested to use a proxy or an anonymizer. I don't know what either of these are, may I have an elaboration on them? But to return to the man topic and cease the digression, here are a few examples to support my theory.
    ( (flag:gb) Loving you. \u003cS )
And here is the second example:
    ( (flag:gb) already; )
This is it. It seems logical, but if you have another reasonably theory, or if you think I'm just wrong, why don't you post what you think and the reason for it. I'm always hoping for some help on understanding. Please and thank you.

first, i'm not sure what those examples are and why do you think that they may prove Skype are recording Skype messages and calls.
with regard to messages, or let us term them as chat histories, Skype may retain them in their database for a certain period of time for certain purposes.  I'm not a natural English speaker, but in my own opinion, there is a big difference between being retained and being recorded (at leas in terms of the purpose).
"12. HOW LONG IS YOUR PERSONAL DATA KEPT BY SKYPE?
Skype will retain your information for as long as is necessary to: (1) fulfill any of the Purposes (as defined in article 3 of this Privacy Policy) or (2) comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requests and relevant orders from competent courts.
Retention of Instant Messages (Skype internet communications software application only)
Your instant messaging (IM) communications content may be stored by Skype (a) to convey and synchronise your messages and (b) to enable you to retrieve your IM history where possible. IM history messages will be stored for a maximum of 30 days unless otherwise permitted or required by law. Skype will at all times take appropriate technical and security measures to protect your information. By using this product, you consent to the storage of your IM communications as described above."
On the other hand, there should be no reason for Skype to record your calls and video calls.  Basically, I think they have no use for it and will get nothing from it.  In addition, recording conversations will require additional resources, storage devices in particular in where the "recorded" calls will be saved.  For a messenger with around 10-20 million (or more users) at any given time, just imagine the amount of space it will require to save your Skype calls and video calls (and assuming that they will get nothing from it).
Moreover, there may be indeed ways to record calls and video calls, but it can be done by using third party software and can be done by Skype users to other Skype users only.

  • How to Record an Interview call through Skype in Audition CC

    Hi,
I would like to record a Skype Interview call using Adobe Audition CC.
I have seen posts about this topic, however, no one gives a step by step process to set it up if you are an absolute newbie to Audition.
I am able to get Track 1 to reconize my voice, but I can't figure out how to get Track 2 to pick up the other person's voice I am interviewing through the Skype call. I am using Skype's call recording as a back up, however, I hear the call quality is better if it goes straight into Adutiton.
Do I need a mixer for this to be possible?
I am sure it has something to do with the input and output, but just ahve no idea where to start.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!
    Thank you!!!!

    idopodcast wrote:
    Thank you!
Now you said it's best, however, if you don't have a mixer is it still possible?
It might be, but if you think that setting it up with a mixer might be difficult, I can assure you that without one it's going to be a whole load harder, especially if you have to use an internal sound device. And no I haven't tried - nor am I likely to.
Also, the PDF is great. If I get a mixer, Are there directions for after you set that up and you need help setting up the interface?
No, because I haven't rewritten it yet! (as mentioned on the other thread).
If you are serious about doing this, a small mixer is a very good idea anyway, and they really don't cost that much nowadays. I haven't tried it, but I think that it should be relatively easy to set this up with one of the mixers that also contains an audio interface (so you just have to connect it via a USB cable). I will look into that. The version in the .pdf works with any mixer, although it needs unimpeded line in/line connections on your computer. Most of them can just about manage this, but some manufacturers still make this difficult.

  • Importing a recorded Skype call into Premiere Pro & audio goes out of sync. PLEASE help!

Every time I try and import a clip it gets out of sync, but if I open the file in quicktime its perfect???

(Not sure why this response was originally rejected by the moderators, but am trying again.)
A solution that worked for us:
[EDIT] I do NOT work for any of the companies included in this solution, nor do I receive any kind of renumeration from them. I am recording the software and steps we used to overcome the problem of the original poster.[END EDIT]
The Skype Call Recorder (Ecamm) has 4 built-in converter/splitter apps (you have to look in the "Movie Files" folder to find them). We used the apps to split the recorded Skype video calls into 2 separate "conversations" and then used a free online converter (http://www.online-convert.com/) to convert the conversations into MP4s. Once the MP4s were imported into Adobe Premiere the audio lined up perfectly with the video.
    Hope this helps somebody.

    Hi
    What I'm saying is:
Make a new MONO audio track (use the + button). Assign it to input 1
Make a second new MONO track, assign it to input 2
Name both tracks, record-enable both tracks, and record.
You could, of course, make both tracks in one go via the new track dialog box, and hav ethem automatically assigned to ascending inputs.

  • Recording Skype Calls

    Hi,
I need to record the video & audio from a skype call from a conference I'm covering next week. Anybody recommend software I can use for this that's free/low cost and works properly!?
    Thanks

There is unfortunately not any built in feature/program to windows 8 that I am aware of.
I tend to use a program called Camtasia but there is one which I have not tried called Adobe Captivate 8 http://thankyou.adobe.com/en/au/products/CP/v4/1106_captivate.html?sdid=KHSMT&skwcid=AL!3085!3!45057...
Unfortunately most programs like these are costly and most come with a free trial

  • Recording 2 sides of a Skype call

I have seen this topic posted over the last 2 years.  Surely as popular as this is becoming someone at Adobe can weigh in and let us know if there is a work around or something coming??  I am on a new Mac and am beyond frustrated.

    CCBUCKLES wrote:
But I guess I expected more out of an Adobe product to have an internal mixer.  I understand the problem with skype calls coming through the headphones or speakers as an output...but surely there is a way internally around this.  Or hopefully one that is coming.
Audition already has all the internal mixer it can possibly cope with, and on its own it won't help you to do work with Skype. As ryclark suggests, virtual audio cable may help you get the remote signal into Audition, but it won't help you with monitoring very much, if at all - I reckon that trying to do this within software would be rather more limiting than the external mixer method would ever be.
Doing anything at all clever with Skype is essentially not an Audition problem, and there's also a good chance that attempting to do anything at all using an internal sound device and Windows 8, for instance, will give you a lot of trouble with accessing all the signals you need. Honestly, the external mixer approach is always going to be best for this, because you will have zero-latency monitoring available for both signals, which you absolutely won't get if the remote side goes via Audition to be monitored, which it would have to with any form of internal routing at all.
So I'm afraid that there won't be an internal solution, as it would be pretty pointless because of the monitoring issues, and therefore inferior to the external one. And also because Audition is generic; it works with all sound devices and any solution to this would be essentially limited to devices which weren't crippled by OS restrictions, etc.

  • While in a Skype call in Windows 8, the volume of other sounds lowers

    Hi everyone,
I am reposting an issue ride is experiencing when using Skype in Windows 8. Ride writes:
I am having a problem when using Skype as well.  While taking a Skype call, sounds on other programs are lowered in volume.  I have selected "do nothing" in the sound card communications settings section, but the problem still persists.  Is there any way to fix this?  I am using windows 8 with a Compaq CQ45 computer.
    Hi ride,
I've noticed that the Skype app on the Windows 8 Start screen does not do all the things that the desktop version of Skype for Windows 8 does. I heartily recommend installing the desktop version of Skype, as well as the Start screen app, and logging in to both. That way you'll still get updates in your live tile on the Start screen, and you will still be able to get voice messages on your desktop version of Skype. It's the best of both worlds.
I managed to listen to an online radio station full blast while making a Skype call. Here's what I did:
First, I installed both the Skype app and the desktop version of Skype for Windows 8 (get the directions in the Installing and setting up Skype for Windows 8 and the Installing and setting up Skype for Windows desktop sections of the Using Skype to Make Voice and Video Internet Calls (Windows 8) document.)
Then, like you, I selected the Do nothing radio button on the Communications tab of Sound menu (press the Windows + W keys; type Sound into the search field; and then click Sound in the search results.) I then restarted my computer.
I made a Skype call using the desktop version, and then made a new Skype call from the Start menu app. That's when I started noticing that the volume of the radio station was not reduced. Also, when a friend sent an instant message, I heard the little ping sound full blast.
I'm not entirely sure why that all worked, but it did, and I hope it works for you, too. Will you reply to this post to let me know if it helps you?

I mainly use my phone for Skype calls and I can see the history through my phone, but not through my Skype account on my computer, and I'm not sure of a way to best record it and transfer it to a separate file that can be printed off.  I've tried to enter SkypeLogView.exe into the Run bar but I get the response that Windows cannot find it.

  • Is there any way to record a whole call that is st...

My Skype recorder glitched and I lost the recording. The call is still going; is there a way to record the call from the beginning? Thanks.

Recording off Skype is like recording off the radio (if that's even done anymore), it's not like a DVR.  The best you can do is continue to record the current audio.  If you can resurrect whatever portion you saved earlier you may be able to splice the audio together.  If  your recorder didn't record it, then there isn't  anything to retrieve since Skype doesn't record your calls.

  • EMU 1616 with Shure58S/58SE for skype calls?

    Hello!
I've sent this question to Thomann.de support, but I didn't get anything useful in return..
Basically I want to buy this bundle - http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/LVL/_SET_-Shure-SM58SE-inkl.-Stativ-Kabel/art-PAH109
And I have a bit older version of this card (1616 instead of 1616M):

Will this microphone work on skype, for voice calls?...
Usual PC microphones don't work with 1616 card (as they are not active microphones). My work involves skype calls and I can't call when 1616 is connected. At least not with usual PC microphone.
So I'm using integrated sound card for quite a while...
Will this mic work for this? Please advise.
    Best wishes,
    Aleks

You and I had the good sense to see tremendous value in the E-Mu 1616 MicroDock audio interface.  Unfortunately, apparently few other people did, or maybe E-Mu would still be in business.
    Where to start.
Until recently, I used a headset under Windows XP with no problem. Not even sure how I had Patchmix set up, but I knew NOTHING of ASIO outputs in those days, so might not even have had a Send inserted somewhere.  I was able to use both a headset mic (see below), and/or a phantom-powered condenser with Skype audio-call sessions. I upgraded to Windows 7 in Jan 2013, and although I've used Skype rarely since then, my call record shows that I made a long call last summer, so it must have worked.  In the fall, I updated what may have been a very old version of Audacity, and suddenly could no longer get 1616 sound into Audacity. I've since learned that Audacity doesn't support ASIO, and apparently there's no other way to interface them. (Using properly matched ASIO "send" inserts, I can still use my mics with Pro Tools.)  I also use a product called Total Recorder, which I generally have set up to record from "software" (as opposed to a mic input), and used to regularly put me on one channel and the other person on the other channel.
Now I find that Skype doesn't hear the 1616. Total Recorder doesn't (although their earnest support dept has assured me it should, and should not depend on getting the sound via ASIO -- I have yet to check their report fully, but my first try was unsuccessful).  And the Skype situation is a total mystery -- it says my microphone is working properly, but neither the Call Quality record/play test, nor the test call will hear it, whatever I have tried. (And I swear I've tried and triple checked everything, even removing other recently added audio software and reverting to a week-old Restore Point. (I dare not go back months, if that is even possible.)
Skype does "hear" a USB headset that I plugged in just for testing.  Windows foudn and loaded drivers for it, and I made a successful test call.  Although of course in comparison, the headset's audio sucked.
So, although I have no hands-on experience with the SM58 my short answer is: Yes, it should work with any professional dynamic or condenser mic.  But in my case, it still does, but Skype suddenly does not work with it.
    Supposedly "correct" configuartion for Skype.
    http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=87610
To use an ordinary telephone headset with the MicroDock, you need an amplifier of sort between them. (Which was news to me until a guy deep in Plantronics nicely explained -- apparently headphones use an electret approach?)  With suitable mono/stereo adapters etc., an Andrea APS-100 Battery Box should do the trick.  I got mine from eMicrophones, but a search may turn up other current sources.  About $12 plus shipping.  It uses a AAA battery, and fidelity is okay for phone use.   I don't know if it would be the correct solution (or at all a solution) for a low-output (cheap tape recorder) dynamic mic.  That probably would call for a conventional pre-amp of some kind, although the mic I just tried seems to give signal enough.
By the way, I tried your link to the 1616m and succeeded in putting into a cart, where it says they have it "in stock."  Some nerve!  Okay, a bit of thanks to Creative Inc. for not doing away with the E-MU site entirely, but how does anyone have the chutzpah to sell the thing when there is no support, no "official" driver (just a 2010 beta and 2009 documentation), nobody there, no active forms or email, and their forum is virtually dormant?

  • Helix Skype Calls Have Poor Voice From Helix Mic

When on Skype calls, the person on the other side barely hears the voice of the person talking on the Helix. Using skype on any other device results in much  clearer voice to the recipient. Tried changing the microphone settings by increasing mic volume and switching between normal and group modes but the quality is always bad.
Also noticed that this is not a problem with Skype only but with voice recorder as well. The recording playback always has background noise (even though there is no background  noise when recording) which makes the recordings useless.
    Please help in resolving this.
