Surround 5.1 problem

Hi there,
a year ago I created a stereo session to make a multisession mix in Audition 5.5. But now I want to use this mix to create a surround 5.1 mix. But I just cant do it. I changed the output from every track to Default Surround Output, used the track panner and then I exported the entire session as the multitrack mixdown, choosing the 5.1 mixdown option. But I just can't get it to work..... All I get is a wav with complete silence.
So then I thought: why not go back to version 3, with which I made surround-CDs in the past? The 5.1-output was 6 separate wav-files and I used other software to create the surroundfiles. So I tried to export my multitrack mix to separate wav-files by choosing File - Export - Multitrack mixdown - Entire session and there checking all the single tracks I want to export instead of choosing Master - Stereo or Master - 5.1. But what happens then is that I get all single wav-files (so far so good, because I can load these into version 3 and then make a surround), but half of the wav-files is 1 Kb. The rest is OK.
Then I tried to open the Audition 5.5 session in version 3, but that doesn't work either. Is there a way to export the session so I can open it in version 3? I tried with XML, but that doesn't seem to work......
Can anyone help me? Or tell me where I can find a very detailed (step-by-step) manual how to create a surround wavfile that Nero Burning ROM will accept to burn a surround CD? Or is this impossible, because I chose a stereo-session instead of a 5.1-session and do I have to create a new 5.1-session and do the mixing all over again?? Hope not....
Thank you in advance!
Ton

Thank you for your reply. Of course all the tracks are routed through the master. And it's always the same tracks that will show up being 1 Kb large. I compared every setting (as far as I know) of working tracks with non-working ones, but I can't see any differences, so to me it's a complete mystery as well why these tracks show up like this, while other tracks are just fine.
I opened a sesx file and saw that this is XML as well. Didn't think of checking that, so thanks for your help.  Now I'm going to try and change it manually to a surround session, like you did succesfully. It's worth a try. Better than spending 60 bucks on the Translator tool and not knowing it it'll do the job . Besides, it's for one mix only......
Is it possible that I'm not getting a correct surround wav file because I didn't choose a surround session? Is that why I get a wav file that's empty, complete silence?? If so, it's strange that one can add the output to a multitrack 5.1 mixdown..... why is that possibility not greyed out ?
Thanks again for your help! Appreciate it!

  • 5.1 surround panning angle problem

I'm having a problem getting Logic Pro to pan correctly in 5.1 surround, and the problem seems to be with the way Logic is programmed to handle the "Surround Angle" (i.e. the azimuth angle of the sound's virtual location) as it crosses the Y axis in front of the listener. I have created a soundpath (i.e., a continuously changing virtual location) for a track by moving the surround panner with the mouse and saving the automation. Here's what I'm experiencing. As the sound pans from right to left (somewhat to the front of center), the automation data for "Surround Angle" goes from, for example, 8 to 5 to 2 to 359 to 356 etc. (because the angle is going from the right of the center axis to the left of it); however, instead of the program being intelligent enough to interpolate from 2 down to 0 and then from 360 down to 359 (which would create a smooth fade across the center axis), it seems to be interpolating UP from 2 to 359, creating an obnoxious audible "swoop" as the sound very quickly pans hard to the right and makes a complete circle back to the front center. Is this just a hopeless flaw of the way the programmers have implemented the intensity panning based on angle data, or is there a known way to get the panning to act smoothly?

Thanks for the suggestion. When viewing the auitomation data (which by the way is not truly MIDI, it's numbers from 0 to 359 representing degrees from front center, numbers that I created by dragging on the surround panner with the mouse), it's clear that the angle is being represented as 0 degrees and upward as it moves clockwise from the front center, and 359 degrees and downward as it moves counter-clockwise from front center. The problem occurs when the sound's location moves ACROSS that front center axis (a perfectly normal and logical thing for it to do to create the illusion of left-right or right-left movement), because the automation data leaps from one extreme to another (such as from 2 to 359 in my example). Well, as Logic sets the intensity of each channel sample-by-sample as it pans, it naturally has to interpolate between angle values. But Logic is apparently programmed to do that interpolation directly EVEN WHEN the panning value goes from extremely low to extremely high or vice versa. So, instead of Logic "realizing" that a change of paning angle from 2 to 359 should be interpreted as a slight move across the front center axis, it apparently interpolates UPWARD from 2 to 359, creating a wild clockwise circular swoop. So, ...
I can't see how I can fool Logic into not doing that, and "smoothing" the transistion with additional data doesn't really solve the problem if it's occuring internally in Logic's samplewise interpolation scheme.

  • X-fi Surround 5,1 problem - audio dela

Hi all. Sorry for my English
So I have a problem with a 5, x-fi surround usb, sound is delaying -3 secunds, for example when I'm playing games, sounds effects are delaying, same problem with movies etc. this is horrible, especially in games. i don't know what to do. i phoned creative support in my country (Poland),but they told me they cant help me(f'cin dyletantte)
I've installed all creative software included in cd.
    My? specifications:
    Windows Vista Home Premium SP
    Dell studio 5,core2duo t5850,3gb ram,ati radeon 3400
maybe somebody knows what to do? thanks for helping me! bye?

It's a shame. I walked blindly into the X-fi-vs-nForce chipset debacle so I had to return the X-Fi Fatality card as it will never work?with my motherboard, so the Surround 5. seemed an ideal solution to my optical/5. requirements. DOH! I should have read this first!!
Return the units guys, there's clearly a design fault. The last two products I bought from Creative haven't worked and I'm not about to waste time and money on a third. The last comment from Creative regarding this issue was 5 weeks ago and no-one's heard anything since.
I've worked in a similar industry and it wouldn't surprise me if Creative withdraw the product. This was a BIG?issue for Quality Control/Testing to miss and allow the product onto the shelves. If the problem was easy to fix there would have been new drivers by now.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 problems with surround

    Hello,
I've problems connecting Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5. to my home theater Panasonic PT860 through?optic cable. All that I'm receiving is 2. sound.. BTW, OS is Windows 7. I've tried reinstalling OS, tried to change drivers and so on. Now I think that's is not possible to have 5. sound with my current configuration but maybe You can help me. Someone?
    BR,
    Donatas

    Hi.
You can only play stereo audio through optical output for uncompressed audio format. To be able to play more than stereo through optical, you need to be playing compressed audio (dolby/dts). You can read more about this in this thread. http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/Digital-Connections-SPDIF-and-Dolby-Digital-Info/td-p/45857

    Hey xnathanmeyerx,
Please select Line-In of Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1 as the default Input for the Mac computer. It can be configured at Sound under the Mac System Preferences. I hope this helps.
    All the Best!!

  • Surround Sound/ Reciever Problem

I have a pre wired house with two cords covered with a red covering and inside that has 4 wires (red, black, white and green); I then have two cords covered with a blue covering and inside that has multiple wires (gold, orange and white stripes, blue, and a few other colors). I am having troubles having the ceiling speakers inside and the ceiling outdoor speakers coming on through the Yahama reciever. Help?

the blue cord is most likely a data run and it is not used for speakers.
The red cord will be the for the speakers. I am assuming that both sets of speakers have wires running to there location. Go ahead and plug in the speakers to the wiring. Pair the colors as followed- Red(+) & Black(-) wire as a set for the right speaker and the White(+) & Green(-) wire as a set for the left speaker. If all 4 wires run to each speaker, cut off the remaining 2 wires as to not get in the way.
Next step is a 2 person job. One person will need to be by the speakers and the other where all of the pre-wiring of the house comes together. At the pre-wire location, find the cord with the red sheething. If there is more than one, that's ok. With a battery (AA will do) your are going to try and "pop" the speakers. Don't worry this won't harm the speaker. Locate the Red and Black wires in the red cord. Strip the wire to expose the copper if not already done. Place the Red wire on the (-) post of the battery and the Black wire on the (+) post of the battery. If this set of wire is attatched to a speaker the other person will hear the speaker make a "popping" noise. To reproduce the noise again, simply remove one wire from the battery and place it back on. (Sometimes you might have to flip the battery polls to try and get it to pop again also). Do this with every set of wire to try and locate each speaker. Don't forget to label them once you know what goes where.
Now as far as hooking it up the the reciever, I need to know what the model number is.

  • [ALSA] surround 5.1 not working on Acer Aspire 8943G

My laptop Acer 8943G has a ALC670 Realtek chip.
And it has built-in Dolby Home Theater 5.1 Cinematic Surround.
My problem is that I can't bring all the 5 speakers + subwoofer to work.
    I'm using gnome3 (gnome-shell). In pulseaudio I see only surround 4.0, so speaker-test -Dsurround40 -c4 is working great and -Dsurround51 -c4 too but not with -c6:
    [_artem_@linux-void ~]$ speaker-test -Dsurround40 -c4 -twav
    speaker-test 1.0.24.2
    Playback device is surround40
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 4 channels
    WAV file(s)

Period size range from 16 to 4096
    Using max buffer size 8192
    Periods = 4
    was set period_size = 2048
    was set buffer_size = 8192

    1 - Front Right
    3 - Rear Right
    2 - Rear Left
    Time per period = 5.717822
    0 - Front Left
    ^C
    [_artem_@linux-void ~]$ speaker-test -Dsurround51 -c6 -twav
    speaker-test 1.0.24.2
    Playback device is surround51
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
    WAV file(s)
Channels count (6) not available for playbacks: Invalid argument
Setting of hwparams failed: Invalid argument
    [_artem_@linux-void ~]$
as pulse audio has no 5.1 profile for my hardware I decided to remove it completely, so I did.
now I have just alsa: speaker-test -D default -c6 -twav gives sound only on front-left, front-right, but it gives no error on hwparams
Yesterday on pulseaudio I got speaker-test -c6 -twav to give sound on all the speakers including LFE (subwoofer).
But that worked only with speaker-test, sound settings of gnome still gave me 4.0 profile where I could test only 4 channels.
That's why I wanted to play all the sounds directly through alsa without pulseaudio.
    here is alsa-info

I read already almost all the manuals but can't get it working, I played with default.pa, daemon.conf (both with pulseaudio) + .asoundrc
now since I delited pulseaudio completely, I tried everything with .asound + /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf (setting default card, manual setting the model) but nothing works.
I hope you can help me, because I have no idea what to do next

here is how the uncommented model looks like in alsamixer:
so I now have CENTER and LFE that are missing in the default alsa config (screenshot in first post)...
    but speaker-test
    [_artem_@linux-void ~]$ speaker-test -Dsurround51 -c6 -twav
    speaker-test 1.0.24.2
    Playback device is surround51
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
    WAV file(s)

rear left and rear right are always silent on model=3stack-6ch-dig even if I pass to the speaker-test -c4, on another model=*** with -c4 I could here all 4 speakers, but on -c6 only front left and front right (weird because they work on -c4 but on -c6 they are silent...)
if I set in alsamixer Channel Mode to 2 instead of 6, the above command gives me hwparameter error, so it's correcter than before because it can't play 6 channel on a "set to 2 channels hardware".
but I don't still know how to get "center", "rear-*" and "lfe" to give sound.
Maybe you know another models (names) that I can try. I have googled on alc670 alsa models but can't find anything related... one thing (saw in a patch diff that it's quiet "equal" to alc622 and alc272 that's why I tried all the models from above. and some of them are at least visually correcter than the default alsa detection: I mean they give me the correct parts (lfe, center), default one gives only Front and Surround).
p.s. I recompiled kernel with alsa support other ways I wasn't able to compile alsa-driver manually and had no cards to try different model options, because there was no kernel module for snd-hda-intel...

  • Hooking all my components to surround sound

ok, i bought a sony home theater system with surround sound. the problem is i can only hook up 2 compnents to the system because there are only 2 inputs, the standard rca type audio input and an s-cable input. doesn't someone make a product to defeat this. in other words something that i can hook all my audio inputs into and then hook this into an input on the surround system and then choose whatever i need to input into the system. any feedback will be much appreciated. Terry

the home theater system is a Sony DAV-DZ175 which has the dvd player built into it, i have my Blueray player already hooked into it via the optic cable, (not an s-cable) but I have a dvd-vcr component and a gaming system (Wii) that i would like to try and hook into the sound system, occasionally i use my laptop on the tv and would like to get that hooked in also if possible.

  • Jerky preview and other problems!

Hi, I am making a movie using the "Lightbing effect" to create lightsabers. After rendering the playback is very jerky, and sometimes won't start at all, or it rushes through to the end playing only a few frames. Also, if I click "Pause" the movie won't stop. The other problem I have today, when I opened up my project to continue the "Lightnening" editing, when I click on a frame, the ability to move the "end points" of the lightnening disapears, I can get them to re-appear, but as soon as I move over the clip, the end point crosses disapear again.
After I save, and open up the project again, I have to re-render.
    My Specs:
    HP pavilion 7 - intel core i7 - Q720 @ 1.6ghz 4gb RAM
Movie shot with Sony HDR-SR7 (audio records in dolby 5.1 surround, this causes problems in my Avid Studio program, could this be the case with Premier Elememnts 11?)
I converted my movie to WMA Pro 720p HD, and changed audio to stereo before importing into Premier 11.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    John

Is this an AVCHD camcorder, and were you shooting in AVCHD mode? If so, and you used Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer, you should have no problem editing it in version 11. (I'm not sure what you mean by "I converted my movie to WMA Pro 720p HD" but converting it before bringing it into Premiere Elements is a very bad idea. Premiere Elements 11 edits AVCHD natively.)
That said, have you rendered your timeline (by pressing Enter)? You should render your video whenever you see yellow lines above your clips in Expert view.

  • How to plug a 5.1 surround system on a imac

    Hello,
    i have a mac 24' and a medion 5.1 surround system.
the problem is that exually i don't now how to plug in in my mac?!
i'v red about the Griffin Firewave (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave) but they say it doesn't work anymore with Snow Leopard.
Does anyone have a product to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any solutions!
(sorry for my bad English, I'm from the netherlands you know)

If your surround system has an optical input, you can just plug it into the audio out socket (you will need a converter lead which has a mini-TOSlink plug at the computer end) - the socket is dual function, giving analogue audio when a 3.5mm jack is plugged in and digital out when a mini-TOSlink jack is plugged in. You will only get stereo out unless you find a program - such as certain games - which can provide a Dolby Digital 5.1 output.
If your surround system has only analogue inputs you will need a converter, probably FireWire: a Google search should throw some up but you will need to check for compatibility before parting with any money.

  • Some INSPIRE P5800 Problems

    Hi, everyone, first time poster.
I have had Creative Inspire P5800 5.1 speakers for a couple of months now, which I run with Realtek AC'97 (onboard sound). However, there are two specific surround sound related problems that are bugging me.
    1. Windows XP sounds are only played in the two front speakers, but not in any of the rear speakers, center speaker, or subwoofer.
    2. This may not be the best place to ask this, but I use InterVideo WinDVD 6 Platinum to view DVDs. Since I want to configure it for surround sound, I change the player from a 2 channel configuration to the 6 channel configuration. However, the program is unable to detect my surround speakers, and therefore simply duplicates the front stereo for the rear speakers. The subwoofer doesn't seem to function.
My drivers are up to date and my Sounds and Audio Devices (Control Panel) is configured to my 5.1 system. Any ideas for why this is happening? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    NoradX,
Stereo are 2 channel only so it's normal that you obtain left and right output only. Depending on the features of the onboard audio, it may have upmixing feature to mix stereo to multiple output for a surround effect. Best to checkup with them the correct setting for the audio card.

  • What are the reasons for following Javascript error in Report Viewer

    Post Author: dhuka
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hello Everybody!
I am using Crystal Reports 10 in my web application. But unfortunately I am surrounded with strange problem related to it because of which I have been unable to deploy is on client-side. In my application the error given below is displayed as javascript error in Report Viewer and report is not displayed. But more frustrating part is that I am getting the same error due to different problem with reporting and I am stuck with it as I am unable to figure out what's causing the error now. Earlier this error appeared due to problem with parameter passing to stored procedure which I resolved it and error vanished but once again it has shown up. Moreover this error now appears less frequently and randomly therefore it is even difficult to trace the cause.
Problem with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly. In the future, you can display this message by double-clicking the warning icon displayed in the status bar.
    Line: 40Char: 12Error: Expected ')'Code: 0URL: http://myServer/myApp/myForms/myReports/ReportViewer.aspx
So can anybody tell me what factors might be causing this errors as the error text is very vague in nature and gives no idea about the actual error.
Guys, I hope for your kind co-operation.
    Regards,

    Thanks for you reply Krishna.
But this syntax error is the one that is creating problem for me as I cannot trace it. The form ReportViewer.aspx contains only a report viewer object which remains un-binded to any ReportDocument even at runtime.
At code behind ReportViewer.aspx I have code below that associates SQL Stored Procedure Parameter and Report Filter along with report name. Once all above is associated with ReportDocument, I export ReportDocument to PDF file format and display the report. Here I dont' even bind ReportDocument with my ReportViewer. Moreover, as I mentioned previously this error is encountered randomly (with no reasonable explanation so far) on client PC (while browsing through application).
I hope below code give you good idea of the way I am implementing my reporting.
Looking forward to you solution. Please note that I am only passing the ReportFileName and Parameter and Filter Criteria to this form while dataTable by itself using the connection information.

  • Compressor failing: "3x should not be auto-detect at this point"

I have something that I can't seem to fix. I'm trying to render to MPEG2 but the job keeps failing with "Status: Failed - 3x should not be auto-detect at this point" error message in the status window of Batch Monitor. The logs show:
    <mrk tms="273146978.300" tmt="08/28/2009 12:09:38.300" pid="278" kind="end" what="service-request" req-id="D1FA9E39-FD27-4C15-A038-A785D4C804B5:5" msg="Processing service request error: should not be auto-detect at this point"></mrk>
Weirdly enough I rendered a surround AC3 without problems earlier.
All Pro apps are completely updated but the OS is still on 10.5.8. I've trashed the Compressor preferences in my home folder and this problem occur with both rendering to (virtual) Cluster (which was trouble free up till now) and th This Computer.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Live trace, gradients and compounding paths

I have a complex shape, and I want to have a copy behind of it that is filled.. the shape itself is a combination of stokes and fills, so a straight-out fill doesn't look good at all.. I can get it all colored the same way using live paint groups to only fill in the areas that are completely surrounded.  The problem with that, though, is a gradient will apply separately to each object, but if I make a compound path it fills in some bits of the strokes the protrude as lines into the outside (it's a ironwork sort of pattern).
The only way i can think to do this automatically would be to color all the selections the same and then rasterize it and then live trace it so it's one object and then apply the gradient to that, but I feel there's probably a more straightforward way.  Not sure I explained that properly, if something's unclear I'll be happy to elaborate

"The problem with that, though, is a gradient will apply separately to each object..."
Once you get to this point, you can grab the gradient tool from the tool panel and drag across all of the filled shapes. This will make one uniform gradient seen through the many pieces of the selection.
Give that a try, let us know how it goes.

  • Static Pop Upon Playback of "What U Hear" SB X-Fi Titanium PCI-E

    Hi,
I've spent a great deal of time over the past couple of months trying to resolve this problem with no luck. If someone can provide a solution I would be most grateful.
    System
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCI-e with latest Creative drivers
    Windows XP Pro SP3
ASUS P5KC with Intel E8400 with latest BIOS and chipset
ATI Radeon HD6450 with latest drivers (HDMI Audio disabled)
Logitech Z-5300 5.1 Channel Surround Speaker System
    PROBLEM
When recording is made from any source using "What U Hear" source the original recording is flawless. However, when I playback the "What U Hear" file there are brief (.5 second) bursts of static that occur about every 2-5 seconds.
    FAILED EFFORTS
    1. Uninstalled and reinstalled all Creative drivers and programs.
    2. Disabled ATI Radeon HD6450 HDMI Audio.
    3. Installed latest Microsoft LifeCam VX5000 driver and turned it off in Audio devices.
    4. Uninstalled various other sound related software -- Toshiba Bluetooth, Anysoft Video Recorder.
    5. Disabled all optional background programs -- antivirus, PLEX, etc.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What U Hear recordings have worked on this system in the past.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Johnny,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have the X-Fi Titanium installed on a test system. I am not getting any of this crackling sound. Do you hear crackling noise during the recording process?
There could be other factors that may contribute to the crackling noise. If you have not already done so, it would be advisable to contact our Customer Support for further assistance.
