Surround sound bootcamp windows 7

Okay, so here is my issue, and I hope you can help me with it. I have a 17" iMac dual booted with windows 7. I have the audio out through a 3.5 mm to optical (Toslink) cable into my surround sound system. My issue is that the cirrus logic cs4206a driver does not have the option of anything more than 2 channel sound output. I have already tried a couple suggestions on the internet, even wasted 5 bucks on dolby digital live and dts connect pack. Nothing is working and I was told that I could get true 5.1 dolby digital surround sound out of my iMac. If there is anyway possible to do this and I am just missing it. please let me know.
P.S. yes i know that no matter what the iMac cannot send out 5.1 audio signal it is compressed and must be decoded live by my surround sound. And my surround sound system is fully capable of that.
Thank you
-Brian

I know this thread is a year old, but I thought I should post my solution in case others with this problem come across this as I did.
I was having tis problem on both my laptops which I have connected to my living room and bedroom tv.  Here are my equipment and connection profiles:
Asus G73jw with nVidia video card
Windows 8 consumer preview 64 bit
Onkyo tr-609 recevier
Samsung flat screen
Laptop connected to receiver via HDMI
Sony 2011 Z series
Docking station with an ATI video card that allows connection of multiple displays
Windows 7 pro 64 bit
Onkyo tr-509
Samsung flat screen
Laptop (not docking station) connected to receiver via HDMI
The solution turned out to be uninstalling all Realtek drivers and software, restarting the computer and letting Windows install it's own sound drivers.  That cleared the problem.  Somehow, whatever the realtek drivers pass through to the recever are not 5.1 surround or cannot be decoded.
If anyone wants more detail, post here and I will reply.

    Hi mikefrompoland,
For more information about 5.1 Surround Sound in iTunes, you may find the following article helpful (it is primarily aimed at Mac users, but the settings in Windows should be similar):

  • I can't get 5.1 Surround Sound running Windows 7, Mid-2010 Mac Pro

    Hello,
So I'm running bootcamp on my Mid-2010 Mac Pro and I can't get Dolby Surround Sound to run from the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Is there a way to produce true Dolby 5.1? I understand this may be more bootcamp related than to the actual hardware itself but I figured this is the best place to start troubleshooting this.
    Thanks

I can try-dunno how much help I'll be, though
go here for Realtek drivers for surround sound
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=37&Level=5&Co nn=4&ProdID=144
try this: go to Windows Sound, then playback devices, then click on speakers icon (should have realtek as default). Click on that, and click configure
if realtek has a sound manager, try clicking on that, and a config dialog might appear
sorry can't be much more help than that

  • 5.1 surround sound in Windows games?

    I'm about to invest in a current-generation (mid-2010) iMac.
If I Install Windows 7 in a Boot Camp partition, will Windows games be able to output 5.1 surround sound through the iMac's optical mini-TOSLINK output?
(I thought this would be a stupid/obvious question, but googling around I find plenty of conflicting information on the net!)

    ok.... strap your-self in Freddie
with a surround panner, bleed-over (on to other channels) can be ugly as i have found surround panners are anything BUT precise (perhaps accurate, as you say but NOT precise). Oh don't forget that sub channel. The bus trick really helps out here with limiting and compression..blahblahblah.. Automation with panning (on the main track) and bussing (i know this sounds goof-ball) making dup tracks for different panning functions (like sweeping aircraft sound spinning around the sweat-spot spectrum) leverages standard (old-skool) automation 'thinking' rather then the (new-skool) surround panner thinking... plus i'm still waiting for a low cost HUI style mixer with REAL tactical 3d surround panning joysticks so i can truly leave the stereo world. the mouse and a surround panner is the 'lame' some times.
But, yah, i do mix in both worlds..5.1 panners and my uber-hax0r bus panners. To tell the truth, when i'm in LP7 i still have use my bus trick in conjunction with 5.1 panners. Kinda too bad however that logic (Pro and Express) don't have the kewl mono/stereo into 5.1 effects of Digital Performer... oh well... good luck all you AC-3'ers out there!.. i'm going back to work...[beep]

  • Mac Pro and Surround Sound

I cannot get 5.1 channel sound out of my Mac Pro (or my PM G5 for that matter).
So what are my options for bringing out the surround content of Windows games to my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system?
I investigated the M-Audio Revolution 5.1. It's not compatible with the PCI-Express slots or with MacOSX 10.4.8.
Is the Mac Pro too new for any such products to be available for it yet?

Feeding my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system from the optical out, only gives me DPL2, (I think) from DVD movies. For games on the Mac, I needed to take a feed to the Logitechs from the headphone out as the optical feed didn't yield any audio from games. What does the optical out give us then? Nothing more than sound for DVDs and some MacOSX alert sounds.
Now I'm guesssing this but my intuition tells me that the optical path is a direct feed from the DVD player. Well, perhaps not really direct but certainly a different path to that of the integrated audio hardware.
Now we have one most serious problem here. Nearly all games ported to the Mac are encoded 2-channel only. Aspyr admitted this to me. I do not watch DVD movies on my Mac so the Logitechs are serving no purpose apart from providing stereo audio.
Aspyr says that since Apple only provides for 2-channel audio in hardware and software, game publishers never bother with surround information in their games. Aspyr says, if it did it could cause instability and crashes because the Mac is a 2-channel computer. Games with surround sound will be more common if Apple builds the feature into its computers.
Unless Apple changes it's policy we are stuck with 2-channel. And similarly, Windows on Intel Macs is hobbled because the same hardware is used by Windows.
Can a Firewire or USB decoder extract surround sound from Windows games? It certainly can on a PC. But what about an Intel Mac? I'm about to learn the answer when the Audigy2 NX arrives.

  • [Solved - kinda] Intel series 9 surround sound?

I just upgraded my system to 1150 with a new motherboard, Asus H97M-E.
In the manual it states that you can choose to map the line in and mic to the necessary channels for 5.1 surround sound in Windows.
Now my question, can this be done on Linux as well or should I just splash on a sound card? I did a bit of the Google but cannot seem to find anything that will help.

Well, my not so elegant fix:
    1.
    nano /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
    default-sample-channels = 6
    default-channel-map = front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe
    2.
    echo export KMIX_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE=1 > ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/kmix_disable_pulse.sh
    chmod +x ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/kmix_disable_pulse.sh
    3.
Test if all works after loggin out and back in again:
    speaker-test -c 6 -D surround51

The downside to this is that you cannot control you soundcard through the SystemSettings anymore, but you can still use kmix and alsamixer.

  • No sound in Bootcamp Windows 8.1

    Hi.
I recently installed Windows 8.1 on my Macbook Pro, late 2011 model and ran the Bootcamp software. Everything works great except there is no audio playing at all, I have an X mark on the volume control, troubleshooting results in a 'A recent hardware might have not been detected' I have no Sound, video and gaming controllers' in the Device Manager, there is 'High Definition Audio Controller' in the Device Settings, though has a warning sign on it, I checked it and tried to update the driver but it says that it's the latest one installed. I had tried to re-run the Bootcamp drivers software and downloaded the Realtek audio drivers from the internet, but it still not working, though a Realtek High Definition Audio driver is now detected in the Device Manager, but not working, it has an warning sign too, When I try to run the troubleshooter it says that Realtek High Definition Audio has a driver problem.
Please help me, this is so frustrating.

I was thinking about upgrading my entry level MBP 13" late 2011 to the top of the line rMBP 15 late 2013 for gaming, I thought I could install Windows and run any game just fine without losing the OS X experience. I had no issues before with Bootcamp with Windows 8 x64 back when I had Lion. Now I'll just buy a Razer Blade and ditch Apple.
Sadly, once I installed 8.1 x64 on my current MBP with Mavericks, I've had every single possible issue with a laptop that according to Apple supports Windows 8.1, first I couldn't create an install usb drive without first burning the .iso file to a DVD, which was possible before Mavericks. I don't have a DVD with Windows 8.1, since I received the OS through dreamspark, so I come to think, what if I buy the rMBP that lacks a DVD drive? I found a way to get the option to create the install drive from a .iso file, attempted to install, then had an issue with the partition created by Bootcamp, Windows wouldn't let me install in that partition, nor I could erease it then use it with the tools of the install setup. So I went to disk utility, deleted the partition, and left that as free space, booted back to the setup, and finally installed Windows by creating an NTFS partition at the free space. After I installed Windows, and installed the drivers provided by Apple, I had no sound, the driver was not working, and spent 3 days actively looking for a solution online, tried a lot, none work. Finally uninstalled Windows 8.1, I'm using VM Ware now, but gaming is not the same on a virtual machine.
I thought Bootcamp had real support, this is not the case. Razer Blade, here I come!

  • No Sound in Windows 7 Bootcamp

So whenever I run Windows 7 in Bootcamp, I don't get any sound. I did check the volumes and still nothing. Please help!

I am having the same problem, the internal speakers and the headphone jack both don't work.
In the control panel/properties it recognizes when I plug in external speakers to the jack and when I am using the internal speakers, but there is no sound.
It says the drivers are from Microsoft, when I tried installing the drivers from the CD Windows 7 told me that the current drivers were more up-to-date and refused to install the dirvers from the CD. Anybody have any thoughts on how to get sound in Windows 7?

  • No DVD Dolby Digital surround sound in media player or media center in Windows 7

I mirrored my working config from my Vista 32 bit install into my Windows 7 64 bit install and a Windows 7 32 bit install, but can't get the Dolby Digital SPDIF coax output to work (just get static) in my Windows 7 install when playing a DVD.
    Notes:
    - Both Vista and Windows 7 are on the same PC, but on different partitions of the same hard drive.
    - standard stereo output works fine in Windows 7
    - Dolby Digital and DTS do work in Windows 7, but only in the Sound config window, not in any program.
I have the latest Creative Audigy 2 ZS Soundblaster Windows 7 drivers installed (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series driver 2.18.0011).
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Dolby Digital / DTS output to work Windows 7 when playing a DVD?

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting.
Please try the following to check the S/PDIF device:
    1.    Go to “Control Panel\Hardware and Sound” and click “Sound”.
    2.    In the opened dialogue box, switch to the “Playback” tab, right-click on the box listing the current devices, select Show Disabled Devices and see if the item “Digital Audio (S/PDIF)” will appear. If it appears, please enable it and set it as Default Device and see if it works.
Considering the issue is related to the specific hardware, it is also recommended that you contact Creative and see if they have any constructive suggestions.

  • Surround Sounds Gaming Headsets on the Mac?

Any have any experience with or know of any surround sound headsets that work with the Mac? I've been hunting around for one (for Gaming/Skype) and most of the headsets that I found don't support the Mac. Or, when they, do, it's stereo only - no 5.1/7.1 surround.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?
    - Are there any Mac USB Surround Headsets?
    - Does Snow Leopard even support surround output over USB? (I know my Mac Pro works well connected via TOSLink to a surround system.)
    Thanks in advance!

if you run windows in bootcamp you are running the windows natively. that means the quality will be as good as your hardware can support. I only have a couple of games but they run excellent in bootcamp as near as I can tell. hard disk space is a different matter but you'll have to deal with that either way.

  • Surround sound support for new MB aluminum?

    Hello, so here's the deal:
I've been looking at a few pairs of headphones that will be plugged in through the USB port and there's a pair that supports 5.1 surround sound and a pair that supports 7.1 (both have 8 speakers built into the headphones).
Does anyone know what kind of surround sound support the new macbook aluminum has, if any?
The deal is that the headphones feature amps (it goes: usb -> amp -> control pod -> headphones), so technically it doesn't require drivers from the Mac into order to get it working, but I don't believe that it will work without the correct digital audio output from the Macbook itself.
Any help on this issue would make me grateful.
PS: if there is either more or less support on the Windows side (via bootcamp) I would love to know that too, because in my switch to Mac, I noticed that it really doesn't have any dedicated control of the sound drivers, whereas Windows XP does.
    Thanks in advance.

Ironically there's apparently a bug that forces all my flash videos to be remixed into 5.1 surround. VERY annoying because now even at hte lowest volume levels it's super loud...

  • Guide : Getting 5.1 surround sound. Audigy 2

    Hi all
I thought I would write up a really quick but effecti've and simple guide for owners of the Audigy2 ZS and seeing how its Xmas time, I can assume a few lucky boys and girls may have this awesome card under the tree.
Most of whats covered should work with all creative products.
(Sorry, but I WILL NOT cover any info regarding encoding media or the like that will conflict with copyright laws)
This guide is for setting up your Creative Audigy 2 ZS for surround sound 5. reproduction and information in regards to required Filters/Codecs. I have not included any advanced set up options or the like as the ZS with the set ups I have incluced here will cover it out of the box.
One of the most common issues people may have with 5. not fuctioning correctly while playing a DVD movie ( Mpeg ) or any multi channel media that is 5. encoded, has to do with Codecs/Filters.
Most media players will not decode all AC3filters/Mpeg, thus require extra filters/codecs/plugins to be installed.
Ok , the first thing to do is ensure your sound card and speakers are set up correctly.
Most common speaker sets have 3 plugs that go in the back of your card .
EG, Logitech X-530. Pink = Front Centre.Black = Rear left and right. Green = Front left and right.
Ensure they are in the correct place and are tightly fitted.Ensure your sound card is secure and tightly in place.Make sure your speaker cables are tidy and not a big tangled mess.
Ensure in device audio controls that SPDIF passthrough is NOT ticked as this is for optical output ( the ZS pro with rack fuction )
Update to the latest drivers an media source ap
    ps.
A few little things to set up first in Creative Mixer Control Panel to ensure cleaner sound:
Lower Master and Wav volume in Creative mixer to about 90% as to avoid any over dri've disstortion.Lower Master Bass Volume to about 90% to avoid over powering the bass.Ensure that your speaker settings Windows control panel and Creative speaker settings match your speaker set up..
Also run the THX Speaker Callibration test in basic mode.
YOU SHOULD DISSABLE CMSS IN EAX CP IN ORDER TO GET 5. TO FUCTION AS IT SHOULD.
CMSS is to be use only for a MONO or STEREO source/signal. It is for sending the stereo/mono signal ( left and right) to all speakers. This is not 5., mearly it is the same signal sent to all speakers to give you a more rich and vivid sound reproduction of an other wise flat source.
    Turn off any EAX FX.
Things you want to do to ensure stable use:
    SHUT DOWN CTHELPER:
A background task that is a plug-in manager for Creative drivers. A 3rd party manufacturer can use the CTHELPER plug-in interface to produce drivers, add-on features, and fixes that will integrate with a tighter fit with Creative?s sound drivers and utilities. Gi'ven its purpose CTHELPER would normally be classified as a "leave alone" background task. It also allows Creative speaker setup to be synchronized with Windows Control Panel speaker setting. Without it running that check box in Creative speaker setting is not functional (settings are not in sync). Unfortunately there are often problems with CTHELPER, most notably that it can use 00% of CPU time so it's best left disabled unless you REALLY need it .
Type in run "msconfig" and shut down all Creative Start up entries. Infact its proberly best to shut everything down.
NOTE: Any essentinal Software for the proper fuction of devices ,Eg: Razer mouse utils should be left on.
Simple Bios settings to help improve audio and stablity:
Dissable Pallette Snoop.ANY AND ALL shadows for devices, EG VGA BIOS and system bios should be dissabled. If you have the setting for PCI latency in your bios ( AGP boards only ) set it to 64, if its already at 64 try 32 .
Shut down ( remove, reconmended ) any 3rd party tweak apps that run in the background.
EG, Cache Man and any monitoring software.
Ok, now for Filters/Codecs and Plugins.
    A major required Filter is AC3. (ac3filter__0a_rc5)
AC3Filter - it is DirectShow filter for AC3 decoding to play AVI with AC3 audio tracks and MPEG2 (DVD). Required for WMP.
NOTE: If you have DVD software that should play encoded 5. then make sure you have any updates/patches for the player installed and go through the tools/options for the player and ensure its setup correctly to decode AC3filters in the applictions tools menu.
If you use Cyberlink Power DVD you may need to pay an extra fee to get the required AC3filter/MPEG2 decoders to fuction as all 5. sound settings may be greyed out on some dated versions.
InterVideo WIN DVD ( this software suit comes with most "Asus" if not all makes of Mainboards. This suit comes complete with the required codecs/filters so get full surrport for 5. - 6. - 7. out of the box. Note: you must set it up first under audio options as it defualts to 2..
If you use WMP0 you should download and install the AC3filter or get the latest XP codec/filters packs. With out these filters you may not get 5. sound and/or poor reproduction.
    Supported file types:
The following table lists the file types (formats) supported by Windows Media Player .(For files type played by Power DVD or WIN DVD please refer to the makers website or read me file for a detailed list).
File type (format) File name extension .
Music CD Playback (CD audio) .cda Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) .aif, .aifc, and .aiff Windows Media audio and video files .asf, .asx, .wax, .wm, .wma, .wmd, .wmp, .wmv, .wmx, .wpl, and .wvx Windows audio and video files .avi and .wav Windows Media Player skins .wmz Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) .mpeg, .mpg, .mv, .mp2, .mpa, .mpe, .mp2v*, and .mpv2 Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) .mid, .midi, and .rmi AU (UNIX) .au and .snd MP3 .mp3 and .m3u DVD video .vob Macromedia Flash .swf Microsoft Recorded TV Show .dvr-ms*
NOTE: WMP defualts to 2.. To enable 5. run WMP0. Click on tools then point to options. Navigate to DVD then open up the advanced window. In here is everything you need to set things up.
NOTE: If you mess things up simply return to defult settings and start over.
Some common errors you may encounter with WMP.
Error messages are identified by numerical IDs, such as C00D0BC2 and 800704CF. You can determine the ID of a specific error message by clicking the More Information or Web Help button on the error message when you encounter it. The resulting page will indicate the error ID.
    : Error's C00D6A and C00D9A while playing DVD's or MPEG-2 content.
This is directly related to either your current video card drivers or the MPEG-2/DVD decoder you have installed (EG: PowerDVD, Win DVD etc ). Reinstalling and/or uninstalling the MPEG-2/DVD decoder (PowerDVD, Win DVD ) and/or video drivers should fix the problem for you.
You should now be able to re-install you decoder ( Power DVD etc ) and continue its use.

    What are codecs Codecs/Filters.
Codec stands for Coder/Decoder. Basically it is a piece of software or a driver that adds a support for certain video/audio format for your operating system. With codec, your system recognizes the format the codec is built for and allows you to play the audio/video file (=decode) or in some cases, to change another audio/video file into that format (=(en)code).
For example, when you install Windows to your home computer, Windows installs automatically most commonly used codecs into the system, so you don't have to download them separately from their vendors. However there are some codecs that are widely used, but not installed by Windows. Most notably DivX , MPEG-2.
Get all the Codecs/Filters/Plugins you could ever need from:
    http://www.free-codecs.com/AC3_Filter_download.htm (ac3filter__0a_rc5)
    http://www.free-codecs.com/
NOTE: ( XviD-.0.3-2022004 for Divx ) Stand alone codec for playing Divx instead of the Divx full install.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx
Ok, you now should be all set.
However Codecs/Filters/Plugins are like any other kind of software installed and things can go wrong. If things are not working as they should try the following.
    Download and install "Gspot"
http://gspot.headbands.com/download.htmlBuild 0307 - 23 KB Run the programme and simply point to system and select "List Codecs and other Filters"
Its a no brainer really to know whats what here and how to use it to find out the source of the issue, if you have one. If its red, its bad so you then need to trace the Filter/Codec to its source and remove it.
Here is just one very simple excample you may encounter and how it was fixed.
If you have ffdshow file is missing error pop up while running a player application, first go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and search for ffdshow.en. Its proberly not here though. If it is just leave it be.
NOTE: ffdshow is used for AVI/Xvid enc/dec source.
To fix this "ffdshow Video Codec file is missing " error Simply uninstall your Xvid codec or your entire DivX programme, or any other Filter/Codec you have installed for playback of DivX files and AVI Video Files.
(Some times it seems a few Codecs/Filters dont get along so you must be aware of what you install).
Cheak "Gspot" again and Filter should be removed from the list.
Now you can reinstall the Xvid filter "XviD-.0.3-2022004" or your desired DivX programme.
Now go back toC:\WINDOWS\system32 and search for ffdshow.en. It should be there if it was not before. If the issue is back try a different version of required Filter.
So, thats just excample of a simple fix that got everything working again. Its not to hard to find out what the problem Codec/Filter is and then its just a case of uninstalling it. You can re-install the Codec/Filter but you should double cheak with "Gspot" and ensure the issue has not repeated itself .
If it has you can try and find out if the issue is related to another type filter causing a conflict or use an alternate Filter/Codec that will perform the same task .
Search for an updated version of required the Codec/Filter also.
Ok, thats pretty much the basics in getting correct and stable 5. sound working the way it should with your new Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
I hope this has been of help.
    Regards,xmn.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound back two and centre speakers suddently stopped working in VIS

    Hello,
In January I installed Windows Vista onto my pc. I didn't have any issues with the sound card at all. All of my speakers were working correctly.
The sound card I have is the Creative Soundblaster Li've 24bit internal. I installed the drivers for it which were out at that time and I had no problems with my speakers.
Yesterday though I noticed that my speakers were not sounding correct. I soon realised that no sound was coming from my back speakers and my centre speaker when I played music in Media Player. So I done the usual audio tweaking and checked my box on my speakers to see if anything was wrong, but it was all ok. So then I went to sound settings in vista. I then configured my settings and noticed everything seemed to be ok. When I done a sound check all the correct beeps came from the correct speakers. That told me that at least the speakers were not broken. Windows has noticed they are there. The 5. settings were correct also.
The CD that came with my sound card I seem to have lost. I know that has software where you can tweak the sound setup but I actually noticed that my speakers were louder and clearer then when the software was installed on xp. So I doubt that if I install that software again it will fix the problem.
I was really confused at this stage so I started to do some research on Google and noticed it's not just me who's having this problem. Quite a few other guys seem to be getting exactly the same as me.
The links for the posts are here:

Granted that the systems are using different soundcards then mine but it's a little bit of a coincidence don't you think?
Luckily for me I had quite a few restore points to go back to. I tried a couple of days ago, then a week and then a month before. Same thing though - no sound?
I then removed the drivers from my computer and then installed the new vista drivers. But guess what, nothing happened.
I doubt this is a soundcard problem and I think it's something to do with vista and the few bugs? she?s still got.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem?
Oh by the way, I?ve not installed any new software which could have caused this problem. Not in the past few days anyway. Like I said I restored my pc at multiple dates just to make sure.

Well I'm not using Vista I'm using XP SP2 and I have the same problem.
On the windows sound control panel there is a button called speaker volume. when you click on it you get a bunch of sliders with channels -8. Ive discovered that if I move the master sound control in any of the Creative Sound modes software Entertainment/Audio Creation or Gaming the channel sliders in the windows control panel numbered 3-7 all go to zero which stops the surround sound working. It leaves channels and 2 and 8 alone which can be changed with the sound control in the creative software.
Even checking move all the slides together option on the windows control panel is cancelled as soon as I twitch the main sound control. It's driving me nuts. I keep thinking I must be missing something really obvious here but alas I can't think what.
Ive tried lots of different solutions to no avail. Interestingly when I tried to use the autodriver update thing on the creative web site it said that i am using Vista and you'll have to download manually. Which I did and still didnt resolve my problem.
Sorry no solutions just more problems lets hope someone can help!
Edit - Just discovered - I have XFi Pro if I use the I/O Console volume dial it works fine, but if I use the software volume control it all goes wrong. Think I posted in the wrong thread as well as this is vista but it just seemed so relevant.

  • No More Surround Sound on Blu-ray player after Upgrade in MediaSmart

When I used the Blu-ray player in my home theatre I selected the "HDMI pass through" mode to get surround sound. I came across some new movies that would not play and after the update from HP the player would simply freeze up as soon as there was audio present. I had to go into the task manager to shut it down.
MediaSmart works fine on the laptop, but it only freezes up when I use the "HDMI pass through" setting.
I have tried "HDMI pcm" mode and that doesn't work either. The Denon receiver shows there are five channels working but I only get stereo sound out of the front left and right speakers. This would indicate that the Blu-ray player is not outputting in 5.1 surrond sound and that the laptop and the Denon receiver is working fine.
Hp supports' solution was to reinstall the old driver or try a system restore. I know a system restore isn't going to do anything. The problem is in the new software. The new software did not work on my HDX18 when it was in Vista, it didn't work when I upgraded to Windows 7 and it doesn't on my new dv8.
I tried contacting CyberLink to let them know that the upgrade is giving problems, but I think they are ignoring me.
Personally I think that either HP or Cyberlink just forgot to add the drivers for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.
If someone were to find a solution to this one I would be surprised. I am quite certain I covered every possibility, but you never know.
     Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.

OK, I found a solution. SORT OF. I use the laptop to watch region "B" Blu-ray movies that I buy out of England. Rather than set Media Smart to region "B" I purchased software from SlySoft.com. When the software is running it removes the region code and all that annoying copy protection. Fox is the worst, followed by Walt Disney. (Pixar Animation and Buena Vista) One specific movie that would not play on the old Media Smart software was "Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs. When I tried, a red window came up prompting me to go to Cyberlink for an update. Of course after that the movie would play, but I had no surround sound in my home theatre.
So now I use the old Media Smart  software and run SlySoft...no more red window...I have surround sound in my theatre through HDMI pass through.
The problem with this solution is that Slysoft costs around 114.00$ U.S. for a life time membership and free updates forever. HMMM.
