Surround sound support for new MB aluminum?

Hello, so here's the deal:
I've been looking at a few pairs of headphones that will be plugged in through the USB port and there's a pair that supports 5.1 surround sound and a pair that supports 7.1 (both have 8 speakers built into the headphones).
Does anyone know what kind of surround sound support the new macbook aluminum has, if any?
The deal is that the headphones feature amps (it goes: usb -> amp -> control pod -> headphones), so technically it doesn't require drivers from the Mac into order to get it working, but I don't believe that it will work without the correct digital audio output from the Macbook itself.
Any help on this issue would make me grateful.
PS: if there is either more or less support on the Windows side (via bootcamp) I would love to know that too, because in my switch to Mac, I noticed that it really doesn't have any dedicated control of the sound drivers, whereas Windows XP does.
Thanks in advance.

Ironically there's apparently a bug that forces all my flash videos to be remixed into 5.1 surround. VERY annoying because now even at hte lowest volume levels it's super loud...

  • Surround sound problems with new 15.11 software

Firstly I would like to give a big thankyou for getting the new IP recording software release out it is very welcome.
Unfortunately this has highlighted even more the surround sound issue for me. All my tests have been done over optical (if anyone could repeat the tests over HDMI it would be very much appreciated just to see if there is any difference).
Here are my findings so far with a small amount of testing.
    BT TV on Demand
HD 5.1 movies appear to switch correctly
SD and HD none multi surround movies appear to play in stereo from the start needing the menu/surround workaround applying to get surround sound as is the same for the tv box sets and kids on demand.
    IP Channels
HD sports channels i.e. BT Sports 1,2 and ESPN (I have hidden the SD versions so haven't tested them) appear to a switch to surround sound correctly
All other channels start in stereo and require the AD button on/off workaround to switch to surround sound.
    IP Channel Recordings
Here lies the real problem for me now. Any IP channel recordings (not tested sports channels yet) start in stereo and require the AD on/off button workaround to switch to surround sound BUT as soon as you apply a fast forward or rewind when it starts to play again it has switched back to the stereo feed which is a much higher volume. I hope you can appreciate how annoying this gets that everytime you fast forward/rewind a recorded IP channel to sound switches and starts playing at a higher volume until the workaround is applied (everytime).
Obviously the freeview channels all appear to switch and work fine.
I am sure there is more to find but I just felt it worthwhile getting the issue highlighted AGAIN now the recording ability increases the visibility of this bug.

Maybe slightly harse as with more testing I am not sure if this is a youview/humax issue and is a problem on the catchup player on youview retail also. I have added below to my first post slightly with a few more findings and some clarity.
When I say surround sound what I am talking about is the Dolby Digital track (this can be 5.1 or 2.0 but in 2.0 format my amp can encode that with pro logic 2 and make it sound like a reasonable surround sound track through my speakers).
After testing through HDMI sound I find that this is even worse and in most cases will not transmit the Dolby 2.0 track at all even using the workarounds.
The freeview HD channels work flawlessly as do the BT sports HD channels (all 3 inc ESPN) (non-HD freeview channels do not appear to carry anything but standard stereo so can't switch no matter what). If anyone has a surround setup check the difference in volume between channel 001 (BBC non HD) and channel 101 (BBC HD) this I believe is the difference between the standard stereo channel and the dolby 2.0 stereo channel.
All IP channels (except sports) fail to automatically select the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack unless forced, as do the catch up channels (tested during programme playback as no Dolby during the adverts) and if recorded switch back to standard stereo everytime a skip/rewind step is made.
Most on-demand content fail to switch automatically to the Dolby 2.0 track but can be forced with the exception of some HD movies with 5.1 soundtracks that appear to work without a workaround.

I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!

  • Support for new Nvidia Quadro gpu?

When support for new Nvidia Quadro gpu? For example Nvida Quadro K2200 and K4200
    Thk

What do you mean when you say "support"? All of After Effects OpenGL features already work on those cards.
The only thing that isn't supported on those cards is GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer, which is an obsolete and almost entirely irrelevant feature. No more GPUs will ever be added to the list of cards supported for that feature.

  • How to add support for new file type.

Using the ESDK, I would like to add support for new file type ( a new extension). this new extension will function like any other non visual code editor but will have specific syntax highlighting, code folding and explorer.
I am trying ot figure out if I need to create a new editor or use existing JDeveloper code editor and add support for new file type. Does anyone have a high level outline on how to do this using the ESDK that is specifically targeted at adding new file type support for a text based code editor?
I have looked at the Samples and keep going in multipe directions. It would be cool if there was an example that was how add syntax higlighting for new file type.
    Thank you

Brian, thank you. I looked at this extension and it answered a lot of questions for me. I was going in the right direction but needed a little help and bost of confidence, this is just what I needed. I created the LanguageSupport, LanguageModel, Addin, Node and TextDocument that are specific to the new file type. I was getting hung up on how to hook this into the JDevelpoer editor. I keep thinking I have to create a custom editor but it looks like I don't have to and it looks like I can associate this file support with the editor framwork, for version 10.1.3.2, with the following in the Addin Initilize() method.
    Recognizer.mapExtensionToClass(MY_EXTENSION, MyNode.class);
    CodeEditor.registerNodeType(MyNode.class, MY_EXTENSION);
    LanguageModule.registerModuleForFileType(new MyLanguageModule(), MY_EXTENSION);
I have done this but still not able to recognize the new file type.
At this point, I just want to be able to recognize the new file and display it's associated icon or display a messare to the message log. I put a System.out.println("test") in the Initilize() method of my addin. then I registered MyAddin in the extension.xml. JDeveloper sees this new extension and it is loaded but I have not been able to show the test message or display the new icon when I open the new file type.

  • MacBook Air 2012 5.1 surround sound support?

I'm thinking of buying one of the new MacBook Airs. I recently saw a video on youtube showing that MacBook Pros are able to transfer surround sound. Are the new 2012 MacBook Airs able to do this as well when using a cable like this one: http://store.apple.com/nl/product/H7124ZM/A/iwires-3-5mm-to-digital-optical-cabl e?fnode=51&p=1#tech-specs?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no configuration option for the S/PDIF interface. The following are the supported output formats:
    2.0 (Stereo L/R)
5.1 (Dolby Digital - DVD bitstream or AC3 encoded containers only via QuickTime or VLC)
5.1 (DTS - DVD bitstream only)
To configure for proper 5.1 use, you need to set DVD Player to use Digital Out (Optical), not the Digital Out (HDMI). To configure VLC you need to set it to use Digital Out also, though you may have to fiddle with it to figure out which digital output is which as VLC's advanced configuration options aren't the most user friendly out there.
Once again, for the S/PDIF interface there are no configuration options available other than Stereo. 5.1 tracks will not play properly unless the apps used to play them back are capable of sending encoded digital audio. Dolby Digital and DTS are bitstream formats (encoded), and as such require that the app can work with those tracks.
Audio MIDI Setup does have the option to manually select Encoded Digital Audio in the format menu, but you should not do so as that disables regular stereo playback. The aforementioned apps will automatically switch between Encoded Digital Audio and Stereo, usually reverting to Stereo when playback is concluded.

  • Surround Sound Support - 5.1 multi-channel stereo

Does FMLE support surround sound - such as 5.1 6 channel stereo? If not, will it ever?

FMLE supports only mono/stereo channel as of now. If we need this support in FMLE/Flash Player, log a feture request for the same.

  • No surround mixer support for Audigy 4

I have spent about 3 hours trying to find ways to get surrond mixer to work, and i dont have the cd. It looks like creative didnt even put any support on their downloads for managing speaker channels. Which makes the card useless for people who want SURROUND SOUND! Am I the only person have problems, i check all the downloads and there is no surround mixer to my knowledge, why is this so?

  • Final Cut Express 3.5 surround sound support

I upgraded to 3.5 from 3.0 with the hope that FCE 3.5 would finally support MPEG-2 with Dolby 5.1 as it says it supports surround sound. Any idea if this is in the plans as FCE for the video part blows away all of the PC stuff but I would really like to edit the Sony SM100 MPEG files with sound.
G5 Power PC   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 gig RAM Final Cut Express

There is no surround sound capability in Final Cut.

  • Best Surround Sound Setup for MBP

Hi, I recently bought the new MBP and am looking into getting some good speakers for it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which logitech speakers would sound the best on it, and what type of cords I would need in order to have surround sound? Also I am not trying to break the bank here, so the probably the best speakers for the money would be the best selection.
    Thanks

I've found the Logitech Z-5500 are a great bang for the buck. They're a bit pricey for computer speakers but they put out plenty of power and sound quite decent for a complete system with decoder, amp and speakers. The controller pod has an optical input that will take any standard optical S/PDIF signal, like that of the MBP (using the right cable; lots of TOSlink optical cables come with little TOSlink to 1/8" optical adapters and you need that for the MBP connection). It does Dolby Digital and DTS decoding in 5.1 format.

  • Optical audio and surround sound speakers for my Mac Pro

In the back of my Mac Pro there's an in and out for Optical Audio. What is this and are there any surround sound speaker systems out there that will plug into it? Most surround sound speakers seem to require a PC-style triple-input, with three jacks (Green to front, Orange to centre and Black to rear channels). Very few surround sound systems have the additional option for a single headphone socket-style jack, and I'm not sure if they will work terribly well with this single connection.
Can anyone recommend some speaker choices, particularly in the UK, that will give me good surround sound from the optical audio or single headphone jacks? Many thanks.

You might want to look at a device called the Griffin FireWave: [http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave]
It connects to your MacPro via firewire, and has the green/orange/black jacks out to a standard 5.1 speaker system.
It comes with a software application that lets you customize the sound, and also synthesize surround from mono, stereo, etc., sources.
It would definitely open up your choices for speaker systems. I'm using one with a Klipsch 5.1 Promedia set of speakers. Works and sounds great.

  • Why no firewire support for new iPods?

If firewire is so much better and faster why did the geniuses at Apple decide to discontinue support for it? It took me over 30 minutes to upload music & videos to my new iPod w/ USB, which would have taken 5-10 minutes with Firewire. I don't get it!

They did it because they obviously didn't see the need for it.
Either you have a usb 1.1 port, or have about 500mb of music. The speeds aren't that different between USB2.0 and FW. In fact, i think USB is faster. Stop complaining here, this is only a user-user support forum.

  • Is it possible to add support for new database type in Data Modeler?

    Hi,
I see that Data Modeler v.4 supports different versions of Oracle, DB2 and MS SQL. Is it possible to add support for a new database family,
PostgreSQL for example? I hoped that RDBMS Site editor can do it, but so far I don't see any possibility to add XML files with metadata for a new RDBMS.
I did it previously for PowerDesigner were it is possible to add and modify definitions for new relational databases.
    Thank you,
    Sergei
