Surround sound with Astro A40 headset

%Surround sound with Astro A40 headset? I've been having problems getting surround sound to work with my A40 headset to work with my computer.
I have an X-Fi Titanium and I'm running Win 7, although I also had this issue on XP and Vista.
Originally when the A40 was connected by optical cable the audio was distorted and would crackle heavily. Installing the <a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SB-X-Fi-Series-Support-Pack-2-0-05-5-2009/m-p/527485]DanielK support pack fixed the distortion and crackle issues.
Next, someone suggested I get the <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativelabsstore/cgi-bin/pd.cgi?page=product_detail&category=Software&pid=F 2222DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD">DDL pack. I tried installing it but I get an errorhttp://i.imgur.com/qag0X.png
Any ideas?

for the DTS Connect Pack, try right clicking it and choosing properties and then choose compatibility and then Vista SP2 or XP (as a last result), and be sure to run it as administrator.

I have surround sound with my LCD TV.  Will my new iPad into HDML connection and Utube, iTunes etc. produce surround sound?

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

• Is it possible to bounce 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1?

Hi All,
Is it possible to create a song and bounce it in 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1.1 without extra software and hardware?

This will let you make a DVD-Audio disc in Mac. It's free. It is command line only, and not for non-savy computer users.
There are other commerical programs out there that make DVD-Audio discs. Search google for DVD-Audio OS X. These programs cost $100+

• SoundBlaster 5.1 no surround sound with the speaker test, but with movies

ISoundBlaster 5. no surround sound with the speaker test, but with moviesO Hello I have a new SoundBlaster XFi Surround 5. USB.
I installed the drivers on Vista 32.
I connected the Soundblaster with an optical cable with my home cinema system.
I checked the 5. speakers option in the Creative Console Starter.
When I will test the surround function by clicking the speakers in the surround test diagramm from the Console.
The front speakers are sending an testsignal, but the rear speakers and the center are silent.
I thought that are settings in the soundcontrol from vista but when I play an Movie with 5. sound, the rear speakers function.
Is ist the optical mode that only support the movie dts signal? Why the Console test from creative doesn't function?
I have further applications but they don't work. Only movies.
Thx

Hi,
S/PDIF?format can only transmit 2 channels of uncompressed audio, which is why you only hear the front channels. For movie dts, an encoded compressed stereo data is transmitted through the S/PDIF optical link to your home cinema system which then decode it into 5. audio.

Is this the latest version of iMovie?
Drag the app from the Applications folder to your Trash (don't empty yet). Also drag the .plist file to the trash by going to Finder > menu bar  > Go > hold down Option key > Library. Scroll down to Preferences and place these in the trash (if you only have one, that's fine):
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Than go to the app store and re-download your iMovie purchase. Install and check for any updates.

Hi mikefrompoland,
For more information about 5.1 Surround Sound in iTunes, you may find the following article helpful (it is primarily aimed at Mac users, but the settings in Windows should be similar):

• Surround sound not working on headset

I have the Corsair Vengeance 2000 wireless 7.1 headset for 3 years now.
In Windows I had some driver issues and in Linux I never really bothered and forgot about it.
So this headset supports surround sound, it's even in the product name, but Linux won't output it.
PulseAudio shows the following entries for the headset:
- Digital Output (S/PDIF) Vengeance 2000
- Analog Output Vengeance 2000
Both of these only show the "Balance" slider, and a greyed out/disabled "Fade" and "Subwoofer" channel. When testing, it only shows left and right channels to test.
Alsamixer only shows a "PCM" channel of which I can change volume, but nothing else. From what I understand it should show all 8 channels that come with 7.1 surround.
It also says the chip is "USB Mixer".
pamixer --list-sources
2 "alsa_input.usb-Corsair_Vengeance_2000-00-V2000.analog-mono" "Vengeance 2000 Analog Mono"
10 "alsa_output.usb-Corsair_Vengeance_2000-00-V2000.iec958-stereo.monitor" "Monitor of Vengeance 2000 Digital Stereo (IEC958)"
By some Googling I found this, but sadly it didn't help.
So it seems Alsa is not recognizing the headset as 7.1 surround capable. How can I fix this?

Most of those "surround" headsets only have two channels, and the "surround" sound is emulated by the driver, which I guess does not have a linux version.
This is probably the reason why you only see a stereo device - it's what it is on the the hardware level. What the linked "solution" does is, it tells pulseaudio to use 8 channels per default and  enables remixing both regular channels and LFE. This leads to pulseaudio downmixing the 8 channels to 2 to match the numbers of your speakers. Essentially, this is what the windows driver should be doing, so if it sounds different, it's probably a matter of different implementation/enhancements the dolby driver includes.
Bottom line: you can't have 8 channels on a device which only has 2 channels on the hardware level. This is why I went for a Roccat Kave back then - it has 6 physical speakers, 3 on each side.

• Cannot get 5.1 Surround Sound with optic fiber cable (Mini Toslink)

I have a Macbook Pro (Early 2011 Model) and after spending lot of time I figured out that the best way to get 5.1 surround sound output is to connect the MBP to the AV Receiver with the optic fiber cable (Via Mini Toslink Adapter). So after reading all the articles and forums on it, I went and purchased the cable and adapter and hooked up my MBP to my AVR 142 Harman / Kardon receiver.
But now I’m still not able to not get Digital 5.1 surround sound!! Additionally, in Audio MIDI Setup (under Utilities), I can only select Stereo from the drop down menu, as "5.1 Surround" and every other option, such as 7.1 surround are grayed out.
Is there anything that I have missed out in the setup? or do I have to try some other method to get the surround sound??
Please Help!!

• How to output surround sound with airport express N

is this possible? I am streaming successfully with airport express, sounds great with no audio dropouts. I have it hardwired to my router and the AX is connected optical to my surround receiver. Music is only played through my fronts. Is there a way to output surround sound? I can't even choose different audio options through my A/V receiver.

I Found out the problem. When I was hooking everything up, I kept the t.v. on so I can assign audio inputs with the onscreen display. If the T.V. is left on....only stereo outputted. When I turned the t.v. off and with the airport express plugged into AUX, I was able to switch between surround sound settings.
so the moral of the story is, turn off video devices when you just want sound, especially if they are hooked up to the AVR with HDMI.

• Help Connecting my laptop to my 5.1 surround sound with optical Ca

Hi
I have recently bought a new hp 9667ea Laptop which has a express card slot. So also decided to buy the creative blaster x-fi xtreme audio note book sound card. I?want to connect my laptop to my surround sound using a optical cable.
So after days of messing about I cound get the sound to come out the card using the headphones supplied but not through my optical cable also when rebooting my laptop with the sound card in it would freeze my laptop and was unable to get a internet connection.
I since found out this card only supports 2. throught the optical cable.
Now what I am after is a card that supports 5. and I am able to connect to my surround sound using a optical cable?
I know creative are bring one out that support 7. will this also be compatible with my 5..
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

I connect mine via XBox 360 using a program called uShare https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UShare and it works brilliantly. However, I don't suppose you have an XBox or PS3, so you do actually have an option which is a VGA to HDMI converter. This is just one link I found for one http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDfury-1080P-HD … B000SOPWS8
It's fairly reasonable price, £57.80, I suppose if it works okay. You could always buy one and if it doesn't do what you want just send it back and get a refund.

• 5.1 surround sound with X-Fi XtremeMusic c

I am trying to get my X-Fi XtremeMusic card set up correctly for surround sound and having a bit of trouble. I have a Logitech X-540 speaker set (5 channels + sub.) Perhaps I don't understand how to set this up correctly - I am using the CMSS-3D tab, with the Upmix Mode set to Stereo Surround, Upmix: set to Auto. The slider is set at the recommended 50% mark. When I click on the speakers in the bottom half of the display, the voice comes mostly from the front speakers for both the front and rear speaker on each side. If I move the slider to about 80%, the voice sounds to be coming from right beside me for both the front and rear speaker, so that would be balanced. However, shouldn't each sound come from only one speaker? "Front left" - just that speaker? "Rear left" - just from the rear speaker? What do I need to change to make sure things are set up correctly?

The sound card has surround capabilities, but it is the ASIO drivers that provide PPro with access to those facilities. I didn't see a mention of ASIO on the product page, but a shot in the dark would be to see if there are updated drivers on the Creative Labs Web site.
Cheers

• Suddenly, No DD5.1 Surround Sound with Motorola DCH3416, Only PCM

Greetings. As of yesterday, May 13, after several years of trouble-free service, and with absolutely no changes to my home entertainment system, my Motorola DCH3416 STB stopped recognizing (and passing along to my Sony tv) the DD5.1 signal; all I seem to be getting now on surround sound broadcasts is 2-channel PCM sound. To experiment, I swapped out the DCH3416 and replaced it with a non-dvr Pace RNG110 that was being used in another room. The RNG110 properly receives and passes along the DD5.1 signal. Swapping them back again, the DCH3416 failed once more to receive the DD5.1 audio, and provided only 2-channel PCM. I can only conclude that something recently has changed within the DCH3416 hardware, perhaps via a recently pushed firmware update (?). For now I will use the RNG110 as my main STB, but I would like dvr capability.  Any ideas about why the DCH3416 suddenly stopped acquiring/passing along surround sound audio? Time to upgrade my DCH3416 to a more recent STB that won't choke on a DD5.1 signal? Thanks for your advice.

Apologies. Below is something to try...
Access the User Settings Menu
1. To access the User Settings Menu, power On your TV and power Off the box.
2. Press the Menu button on either your remote or the box front panel to call up the on-screen menu. You may use either the front panel or remote to navigate the menu.
3. Press the up-down arrow buttons to select the setting you wish to change. Press the right-left arrow buttons to select an option for that setting. To exit the setting and move to another setting, use the up-down arrow buttons.
On this box type, there should be an option for Additional HDMI settings. Highlight that and Press OK. Arrow down to Audio Output and select Pass Through.

• HELP! How to monior 5.1 surround sound with STP 2.01?

Hi guys,
I'm sorry if somebody else has posted this question before, but it seems that i can't find any answers.
I'm a new user to mac (what a fool spending all those years on a pc!!) and i have an audio problem.
I'm using a PowerPC G5 Quad wih FCS 2 which includes STP 2.01.
I'm going o shoot a short film quite soon and i would like to edit it in 5.1 surround sound.
I can see how to do the mixing in STP, but i have no clue how to monitor the effects (ie right and left back). Do i need some specific hardware? If so, what do i need? Is there something not too expensive as i'm on a very tight budget.... What about the software itself? do i need to do anything special config?

• Can you use surround sound with the built-in optical out on dual 1.8 g5?

Ok here's the thing, I just got the new version of Final Cut Studio, and was wanting to set up my g5 to utilize the surround mixing capabilities of SoundTrack Pro 2.
I have verified that i'm getting 5.1 sound via Apple's DVD Player, but when i go to Applications-> Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup, I cannot configure the system for multiple channels. It only allows me to output stereo.
Is my assumption of being able to use the built-in optical out for 5.1 monitoring incorrect? Do I have to go buy a firewire/usb audio interface?
Info about my system:
I have a Bose Acoustimass 10 5.1 Speaker setup.
I have a Onkyo DR-C500 5.1 Receiver, which does dolby pro logic 2 and dts decoding.
The Onkyo Receiver is hooked up via the spdif optical output of my G5.
I have a Dual 1.8 G5 with this info about the Built In Sound Card:

NZane-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
The Mac puts out encoded 5.1. It is the function of the amplifier, receiver or decoder to take that signal and turn it into something useful. At minimum you will need a device that can accept that output and turn it into something useful.
Most studios that I am familiar with want to be able to use their own 5.1 decoder, amp and speakers. Juicier sound!
Luck-
