Sustain pedal plays notes in logic express 9

HI
I am using a Yamaha Arius piano that has 3 pedals. I have the piano plugged in via midi to usb connection. Everytime i push down the sustain pedal in Logic express it plays a note. When i look to see what it comes up as it says E3 and then depending on the pressure i place on the pedal, the number changes...
Ive tried using transformers in the environment but this did not fix the issue...
I have checked all of the connections and everything seems to be in working order when playing the piano by itself.
Any thoughts?
Thanks so much

Hi, assign a new name to your new bouce, like "project1.aiff" instead that "project.aiff",
Then rename if you want to call it as the past bounce. cheers

  • Some organs don't play in new Logic Express files after JamPacks installed

After loading only the instruments from the Symphony Orchestra and World Music GarageBand Jam Packs, I lost the ability to hear most of the organs available in Logic Express and all of the organs available in GarageBand after inserting them into Logic Express tracks. These same organ sounds still play in any Logic Express file set up prior to the installation of the JamPacks and they continue to play in GarageBand. Can an uninstall/reinstall of Logic Express 7.2.3 be a fix for this or is there an easier way to return the lost instruments to Logic Express?
1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Midisport 4x4, iControl

The loss of instrument sounds in Logic Express had nothing to do with the installation of GarageBand JamPacks. The midi channel setting in the Inspector box of the Arrange window in Logic Express needed to be set to channel 1 to get midi data from other than channel 1 to play some of the inserted CoreAudio instruments. I don't understand what's going on but now I'm able to get the instruments that would not play.

  • Middle C (C4) sustaining after being depressed in Logic Express 8

My son is having this problem involving a key (C4) sustaining after being depressed in Logic Express 8 only. This problem has only emerged after upgrading from Logic 7. I have sent an email to M-Audio (shown below) and they have agreed to keep me updated. I thought I would post it in the forums in case any one else has observed a similar problem. I would be grateful for any feedback.
    +"Hi Richard,+
+I am writing to you, on behalf of my son Alexander, as a follow up to his email (sent online and answered by you) attached below.+
+First of all thank you for your reply to his online enquiry. I am responding for him since I believe I have isolated the problem. First of all, the KEYSTATION PRO 88 keyboard is OK. There seems to be a conflict between Logic Express 8 and the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile driver. The sustain problem with middle C (C4) only happens with the Audiophile connected. Alex is using it to route digital audio o/p from his Powerbook to Roland DS 30 A studio monitors. If we listen to the audio via the Powerbook's headphone socket, then the sustain problem is not there. Everything works fine. I have tried a KEYSTATION 49e keyboard and this acts in exactly the same way as the KEYSTATION PRO 88. Middle C (C4) sustains when depressed, when the Audiopile is connected. Both keyboards can't be faulty! I believe there could be a conflict between the Audiophile driver and Logic Express 8. He has updated the driver to the latest version, but the problem remains. Logic Express 7 works OK (it always has).+
+I called TJ on the number you provided and he has logged my call as a possible issue. Is it possible for you to replicate the problem in your lab? Perhaps you can advise a fix, otherwise Alex will have to go back to Logic Express 7. I have also advised Apple, but it is their policy not to give feedback. They would probably say that it was an M-Audio problem anyway. I would be interested to know if you have had any other enquiries regarding this.+
+I look forward to hearing from you+
    +Kind regards+

    +(on behalf of Alexander Lovat)"+

Alex uninstalled Logic Express 8, then re-installed it. The problem seems to have disappeared. I hope for good. I may have posted this too hastily, but if someone else has a similar problem, then maybe reading this thread will fix it.

  • Sustain pedal - fatar usb keyboard - logic gets not only 0 and 127

when pressing the sustain, logic records controller 64 (sustain) with several values (e.g. 0,34,127,64) - like a curve. i just need 0 and 127 (on and off). thank you!

    Use the Midi Event List....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13096
and look there for the Sustain events you recorded... and make sure your pedal is working correctly and not working in reverse... (On = Off and Off = On...)
Also make sure the sound you are trying to sustain can actually sustain as not all sound respond to the sustain pedal.... Try one of the Pianos to confirm...

  • Sustain-Pedal stopped working in Logic?

    Hi,
never had this and don't understand what's happening.
    I use a K2600X through a Novation RemoteSLcompact controller.
The sustain pedal activity doesn't show up, and doesn't record nothing=
only in Logic= when I try in Ableton live, Cubase or Reaper= works fine.
I deleted the actual controller setup, re-scanned,re-configuered quit Logic, restart, loaded different projects= still no incoming sustain.
This is driving me cray, I'm right in the middle of working on a project with a lot of piano/solo piano recorded with ArtVista VGP, and can't do without sustain.
I will continue search for this mistery, and in the meanwhile I appreciate all your help
    Thanks
    Biggnik

    Hi again,
re-installed the RemoteSLinstaller, re-built the controller setup from scratch and
    it works again!
Still don't know what happened, but maybe this'll be helpful to some of you

  • Sounds play at once on 1 note on logic express 9

When I play a sound I get different sounds coming from 1 note.  I'll play a drum sound, I'll hear pianos, cymbals, etc all at once.

I found this same problem, and still having problems. What is really astonishing to me still is that there has not been anyone that has created a template for all the basics.
Drum Pads should play drum sounds.
    Keyboard should play a keyboard.
The transport buttons should stop, play, pause, etc...
all of this at least by default
I've had my axiom for almost a year, and keep revisiting creating a template but always to no avail. I've come close to getting some of the knobs to control some of the features such as Freq cut off... but I can't seem to get my head around the exponential +/- issue.
I'm so frustrated with them. As it keyboard it's black and white and instantly works but as a controller, I feel despite being an electronic musician for over 20+ years - this is beyond my comprehension.
I swear if I ever get it figured out or find solid templates to build from I will post them for everyone everywhere... it shoud not be this difficult to have a basic functionality from a controller as simple as the Axiom.
the learn function only half works it seems

  • How to get your keyboard to play notes on Logic pro 9?

I'm brand new to Logic. I used to use Fruity Loops and with that I could play the notes by clicking on keyboard keys. In Logic, I can get the piano roll up, and can play the notes by clicking on piano keys with the mouse, but I can't figure out how to have the notes play by me clicking on my keyboard. How do I have the notes play through the keyboard(A-Z) keys, instead of the midi controller?

    Push the Caps Lock key.

  • Garageband software instruments not in Logic Express

    Hey
When I go into the Input popup menu of a tracks channel strip, none of the garageband software instruments are listed. It only shows the logic ones.
Why is this? Can you import them somehow?
    Thanks

    Yes. They are.
Check out Logic's sample player EXSP24, you'll find 'em there.
    Enjoy.

  • Sustain pedal in Logic 8

    Hello,
I am from Russia. Recently i upgraded my OS to Leopard and my sustain pedal in Logic 8 stopped working. Can anyone please help me with advice? What can i do about it?!
    Thank you.

I face the exact same issue: I am playing through a Korg SG-1D in Logic Pro 8 and have a MacBook Pro running Leapord, and the sustain pedal does not record sometimes. It is finnicky--sometimes it does record sustain information, sometimes it doesn't. The event shows up in the transport (i.e: it is receiving the command from the sustain pedal), but notes do not sustain. It doesn't sustain notes in any instrument--piano or anything else.
Sometimes if I quit logic for the night and fire it back up in the morning it will work then, but this is working less and less.
I have been inserting "sustain" events by manually post-recording, but this is a big pain. I have a film score I need to finish by the end of the week, so the sooner the help the better!!!
    thanks!

  • Sustain pedal not working in Mainstage only with Kontakt 4 plugin

I can't get Kontakt 4.0.2 to sustain notes when instantiated in Mainstage.
The sustain pedal works fine for Kontakt in stand alone mode, and for the same patch/channel strip in Logic 9, but not when in a channel strip in MainStage.
I have the pedal mapped properly (same channel, same keyboard selected, same channel selected on Kontakt plugin), since all other patches work fine with said sustain pedal in Mainstage... except for the Kontakt samples.
I have tried a different controller with a different sustain pedal (again, properly mapped and channel synchronized- same channel on controller, pedal and Kontakt interface), and the same thing occurs.
I have gone into the "wrench" area of the Kontakt plugin/instrument options/controller/MIDI controller #64(Sustain Pedal) acts as". I have set this to both Pedal + CC, and Pedal w/o CC and restated Mainstage on both occasions.
Neither setting works. Again, the same settings work fine within Logic (i.e. the sustain works). I have the pedal mapped to the right keyboard and to the same MIDI channel in Kontakt, and I can see it respond on the Mainstage interface; in fact, I can play the patch fine; it just doesn't sustain!
An interesting thing is that when I press the pedal, I can see a MIDI message on Mainstage but not in Kontakt.
Have you come across this issue before? Any ideas on what's going on and/or fixes?
    Thanks.

You shouldn't have to assign it in Kontakt -- it just works. I would delete that.
A key indicator is that when you press the pedal, the MIDI message does not appear in Kontakt. That tells me your problem is in MainStage -- for some reason MainStage is intercepting that MIDI data. Therefore, the problem's not inside Kontakt's edit mode. It's somewhere in MainStage.
Sorry I can't be of more help but at least that narrows it down.

    My reply:
By the way, if you want to instantiate a Kontakt 4 patch within Mainstage, you have to create a keyboard surface in Layout mode, then assign it and map it to the keyboard you want to play that channel strip with in edit mode. If you don't map a sustain pedal object, Mainstage doesn't receive its message; therefore I am confused when you write: "You shouldn't have to assign it in Kontakt -- it just works. I would delete that."
The keyboard is mapped correctly, since I can play the Kontakt patch fine. Both wheel controllers and the sustain pedal are not getting midi data into Kontakt. As I said, everything works fine in Logic with the same set-up; so I agree, it has to be something I am missing within Mainstage...I just don't know what it is!
Has no one else had this issue on this forum?

Personally I don't think that's a solution and may not change a thing. Logic probably recognized the Akai and tried to use a stock Controller Assignment.
It's easy enough to try this without deleting the file I mentioned.
With Logic running, go to the far left Logic Pro menu, go the Preferences>  entry down near the bottom is Control Surfaces. You can Bypass, Rebuild or check what is assigned there.
Believe me... this is not time and trouble... had someone more knowledgeable than me about this particular problem answered you, you would've been on your way.

  • Logic Express 9 and and  Boss RC-30 looping pedal--incompatible?

I recently purchased both Logic Express and a Roland Boss guitar looping pedal, hoping to use Logic Express to create/edit loops for the pedal. But when I tryto import them to the pedal (via USB), I get an error message of "unplayable file". The manual for the looping pedal states that the wav files must be in the format wav, 16-bit linear, stereo, with a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz. I am able to match all of those in the "Bounce" export dialog, except I don't see an option for linear--only "interleaved" or "split". And I'm not sure how to tell if I'm exporting a mono or a stereo track, but I think that since my signal goes on both sides of the line in the arranger window, that it is stereo. Has anyone been able to get this to work? I'm thinking the issue is that I need a linear rather than an interleaved file.

Have been really busy, but finally tried your suggestion. Logic Express seems to be able to export WAV files only as interleaved or split into two tracks. My Roland/Boss looping pedal says "unreadable file" for both flavors. After much experimenting, I did finally find something that will work. I have to first export my file as a 16 bit (interleaved) stereo WAV file from Logic Express. Then I have to open the file in Audacity, and re-export it as what Audacity calls a 16 bit Microsoft WAV file. Then my pedal reads the file just fine. I'm disappointed that Logic Express won't export a file that is readable by the pedal, but at least I found a work-around.

  • Can't open a garage band song in logic express trial

I've been thinking about getting logic express, but I wanted to try the trail version first. When I try to open any of my garageband songs in logic it says, "Damaged Song or not a logic express song! Damaged songs might create problems and crashes!" After that box it says, "Rad Error! This is not a Logic Express song!" I would appreciate any advice on how I might fix this problem.

I'm not using a different user account than previously, and haven't moved anything. That said, I was able to solve the problem. Here's what I did:
    1. Right-click and select GET INFO
    2. In the INFO window, open the SHARING & PERMISSIONS panel at the bottom
    3. In the lower right corner, click the LOCK to change it to UNLOCKED
    4. In the pop-up PASSWORD window, enter your MAC password. The LOCK changes to UNLOCKED.
    5. Click the PLUS SIGN lower left, choose the appropriate Person or User/Group (me) and click SELECT
    6. The name gets added to the bottom of the GET INFO window, but with “Read only” permission
    7. Click the “Read Only” selection and change to “Read & Write”
PARTIAL SUCCESS:  The PROHIBIT badge is gone from the file, and instead of showing ZERO bytes, it now shows XXMB — for example, 32MB.
HOWEVER, when I tried to open the file, I got the message, “Your file has no content”.
TOTAL SUCCESS:  I discovered that I had to go back a level, click on the FOLDER that contained my prohibited songs, and follow the same instructions 1-7 above. Now, at last, I can access my files in the new GarageBand!
Thanks to Hang Time and Leonie for responding so quickly to my plea for help!

  • How to record V-Drums in Logic Express?

I’m trying to record my V-Drums through the M-Audio 2626 interface into Logic Express. I’m able to trigger sounds in the Logic Express library when I conned the MIDI-out on the V-drums to the M-Audio.
But I’d like to record the Roland drum sounds through Logic. Has anyone had success with this?
I tried connecting the audio out from the V-drums into channel 1 on the M-Audio with a 1/4-inch instrument cable. I can hear the drum kit through the M-Audio via the headphone jack, but not through Logic Express.
If anyone has successfully recorded Roland V-drums in Logic, any information would be helpful.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
you're on the right way. You have to create an audio track in Logic (one for each output of the drums or simply a stereo track for the drum's stereo output - depending on your configuration).
    1. Select the appropriate channel of your M-Audio as the audio track's input
    2. Click the little red "R" to arm this track for recording or press the littel "I" to activate input monitoring for rehearsal.
    3. Start recording and there you are.
    4. Don't forget: Have fun!

  • Snowball USB Mic in Logic Express?

    Hi everyone.
I just got a Snowball USB mic, as I thought it would be a cheap, simple way to just record my rehearsals with just a laptop and one device.
However, Logic Express isn't recognizing it. And the nice folks at Blue Mic are telling me to speak to the fine folks at Mac about it.
Apparently, the Snowball is supposed to work in Logic Pro, but not necessarily Logic Express. This makes no sense to me though, because if you're using Logic Pro, aren't you less likely to be using a cheap USB mic? I don't get it.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to use this white, round wonder in Logic Express, you and I will be BFF for life...
    Many thanks,
    Mortimer Jones

It should work fine in Express - it's set up in the Audio/MIDI Setup in your utilities folder.
From the audio menu, open the Aggregate Device Editor.
Add your options by pressing the '+' sign. For example, add your Snowball, then add built-in audio.
Once you've completed this, close Audio/MIDI setup, and open Logic.
In Logic preferences go to Audio -> Drivers. In the driver popup menu, select the new Aggregate Device you just created.
I haven't used this mic, but I remember answering this before in this forum, and I believe this should work.
