Sustain-Pedal stopped working in Logic?

Hi,
never had this and don't understand what's happening.
I use a K2600X through a Novation RemoteSLcompact controller.
The sustain pedal activity doesn't show up, and doesn't record nothing=
only in Logic= when I try in Ableton live, Cubase or Reaper= works fine.
I deleted the actual controller setup, re-scanned,re-configuered quit Logic, restart, loaded different projects= still no incoming sustain.
This is driving me cray, I'm right in the middle of working on a project with a lot of piano/solo piano recorded with ArtVista VGP, and can't do without sustain.
I will continue search for this mistery, and in the meanwhile I appreciate all your help
Thanks
Biggnik

Hi again,
re-installed the RemoteSLinstaller, re-built the controller setup from scratch and
it works again!
Still don't know what happened, but maybe this'll be helpful to some of you

  • Expression pedal not working in Logic after upgrading to Lion

I'm having a problem where Logic 9 isn't recognizing the expression pedal (CC#11) MIDI messages coming from my M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard after I upgraded to Lion.  I've reset the settings on the Axiom, made sure the pedal was set properly and plugged in to the correct port.  (Also, it's an m-audio expression pedal) The display on the Axiom says it's receiving the midi controller messages.  Logic is receiving the mod wheel and pitch bend messages, and sustain pedal messages.  On the midi activity monitor in the transport bar and in the environment clicks and ports window, it's the same.  Everything but the CC#11 messages are coming through.  Also the expression pedal DOES still work in Mainstage.
I've also tried creating a new Logic project, but it still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

Also, for the sake of experimenting, I assigned the Axiom to convert the expression pedal messages to CC#2.  When I did that, Logic DID receive it (as CC#2).  So then in the Environment clicks and ports layer, I made a transformer object to turn it back into CC#11.  So that's my work around for now.
Also, I tried, on the Axiom, assigning my Mod wheel to CC#11 (so that it's sending CC#11 to Logic when I move the mod wheel.)  And then Logic also DIDN'T receive it at all.
So it seems that Logic doesn't like paying attention to CC#11 messages right now.

  • Sustain pedal not working in Mainstage only with Kontakt 4 plugin

I can't get Kontakt 4.0.2 to sustain notes when instantiated in Mainstage.
The sustain pedal works fine for Kontakt in stand alone mode, and for the same patch/channel strip in Logic 9, but not when in a channel strip in MainStage.
I have the pedal mapped properly (same channel, same keyboard selected, same channel selected on Kontakt plugin), since all other patches work fine with said sustain pedal in Mainstage... except for the Kontakt samples.
I have tried a different controller with a different sustain pedal (again, properly mapped and channel synchronized- same channel on controller, pedal and Kontakt interface), and the same thing occurs.
I have gone into the "wrench" area of the Kontakt plugin/instrument options/controller/MIDI controller #64(Sustain Pedal) acts as". I have set this to both Pedal + CC, and Pedal w/o CC and restated Mainstage on both occasions.
Neither setting works. Again, the same settings work fine within Logic (i.e. the sustain works). I have the pedal mapped to the right keyboard and to the same MIDI channel in Kontakt, and I can see it respond on the Mainstage interface; in fact, I can play the patch fine; it just doesn't sustain!
An interesting thing is that when I press the pedal, I can see a MIDI message on Mainstage but not in Kontakt.
Have you come across this issue before? Any ideas on what's going on and/or fixes?
    Thanks.

You shouldn't have to assign it in Kontakt -- it just works. I would delete that.
A key indicator is that when you press the pedal, the MIDI message does not appear in Kontakt. That tells me your problem is in MainStage -- for some reason MainStage is intercepting that MIDI data. Therefore, the problem's not inside Kontakt's edit mode. It's somewhere in MainStage.
Sorry I can't be of more help but at least that narrows it down.

    My reply:
By the way, if you want to instantiate a Kontakt 4 patch within Mainstage, you have to create a keyboard surface in Layout mode, then assign it and map it to the keyboard you want to play that channel strip with in edit mode. If you don't map a sustain pedal object, Mainstage doesn't receive its message; therefore I am confused when you write: "You shouldn't have to assign it in Kontakt -- it just works. I would delete that."
The keyboard is mapped correctly, since I can play the Kontakt patch fine. Both wheel controllers and the sustain pedal are not getting midi data into Kontakt. As I said, everything works fine in Logic with the same set-up; so I agree, it has to be something I am missing within Mainstage...I just don't know what it is!
Has no one else had this issue on this forum?

Personally I don't think that's a solution and may not change a thing. Logic probably recognized the Akai and tried to use a stock Controller Assignment.
It's easy enough to try this without deleting the file I mentioned.
With Logic running, go to the far left Logic Pro menu, go the Preferences>  entry down near the bottom is Control Surfaces. You can Bypass, Rebuild or check what is assigned there.
Believe me... this is not time and trouble... had someone more knowledgeable than me about this particular problem answered you, you would've been on your way.

  • Sustain pedal not working with my MIDI setup

So, I'm using a Yamaha P-140 hooked up with my Macbook Pro using a Midi-USD cable. I'm mostly using it for Logic Pro X and Sibelius, and it works just fine. However when I use the sustain pedal, it's playing an E3 note and it's messing up all the sound adding a lot of reverb.
Now, this isn't a problem when I'm using the piano as it is. It's also not a problem with either Logic or Sibelius, cause when I'm testing it with the "Sound and MIDI Setup" app on Mac, the sustain pedal is recognized as one of the "hammers" on the keyboard.
I have no idea as how to fix this problem, and it's really annoying having to play super legato when I'm recording.
    Thanks in advance.
Note: The keyboard have an "AUX Pedal" input and a "Sustain pedal" input.
    USB MIDI Cable specs:
    (As written on the package)
    - Built-in driver
    - USB powered and Class Complaint for true plug & play. Just connect to a computer USB socket for automatic installation of the driver.
    - 1 in + 1 out MIDI interface; 16 MIDI input channels & 16 MIDI output channels
    - LED's indicate power on, MIDI in signal and MIDI out signal.
    - Supports Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X operating systems
    Aditional info:
Now, I've seen the event-recording in Logic for when I use the pedal, and it's picking up 2 different signals. The first one is a "Controller" (as it say under "status") with the info "Sustain", the next 2 have the status "Note" each one triggering an E3.
I looked it up and the pedal is a Yamaha FC3 half damper sustain pedal. I'm not an expert when it come to pedals, but I believe a half damper is a pedal with multiple trigger points? Giving you different amounts of sustain depending on how much you're "pressing it".
    (Position 2 1 1  19 = pedal release)

Try deleting Logic's preferences... sounds like a control surface issue.
Delete the Logic 10 preferences file AND the shared control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: Delete both files, they will be rebuilt the next time Logic runs.

  • Sustain pedal plays notes in logic express 9

    HI
I am using a Yamaha Arius piano that has 3 pedals. I have the piano plugged in via midi to usb connection. Everytime i push down the sustain pedal in Logic express it plays a note. When i look to see what it comes up as it says E3 and then depending on the pressure i place on the pedal, the number changes...
Ive tried using transformers in the environment but this did not fix the issue...
I have checked all of the connections and everything seems to be in working order when playing the piano by itself.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks so much

Hi, assign a new name to your new bouce, like "project1.aiff" instead that "project.aiff",
Then rename if you want to call it as the past bounce. cheers

  • Sustain pedal - fatar usb keyboard - logic gets not only 0 and 127

when pressing the sustain, logic records controller 64 (sustain) with several values (e.g. 0,34,127,64) - like a curve. i just need 0 and 127 (on and off). thank you!

    Use the Midi Event List....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13096
and look there for the Sustain events you recorded... and make sure your pedal is working correctly and not working in reverse... (On = Off and Off = On...)
Also make sure the sound you are trying to sustain can actually sustain as not all sound respond to the sustain pedal.... Try one of the Pianos to confirm...

  • Sustain Pedal not working when recording with software instrument piano

I have an M-Audio sp-2 sustain pedal going into an M-Audio Keystation 88es, which is connected by USB to my mac. When I'm recording and holding down the sustain pedal, the sustain is working properly. However, when I playback what I have recorded, the sustain is gone and it is just the regular piano key notes with no sustain. Does anyone know what the problem here is?

This appears to have been a bug. After restarting the computer the sustain recording is functioning normally now.

  • Nexus 1.4.1 stopped working with Logic Pro X

Hello Guys! I am currently using Logic Pro X on Mavericks 10.9.4. I have been using refx Nexus 1.4.1 with Logic Pro X with the help of another application called 32 lives that allows 32 bit apps to be used with 64 bit apps but all of sudden it stopped working and I get " validation result: couldn't be opened". I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to no avail. I'm attaching a screenshot. I hope this helps. What can I do to resolve this issue. Thanks.

Then... either you have a problem with your system... Permissions issue maybe...
or you are using an out of date version of 32Lives... (Update to v1.4)
or you are using the pirated version of Nexus 1 (Buy the legal version..as v1.4.1 cracked is known to have issues under the latest OS X versions..)
Because I just tested a legal Nexus v1.4.1 with 32Lives v1.4 (I had an old copy that I reinstalled on one of my testbed Macs here as i use Nexus 2 these days..) and with both Mavericks and LPX (10.9.4 and 10.0.7) it all works fine here without issue....

  • M-audio stops working with Logic Pro as soon as I hit play

I've not found a solution to this anywhere. I've got Logic Pro 9 and hooked up a M-Audio Oxygen 49. The computer and software see the Oxygen okay and I can play any sound I want through the software. Until I hit play - trying to add a track to a recorded song - and the led indicator makes some strange outputs and goes black and freezes. The only way to get it back on is to restart LP. Anyone else have this problem or know what could be causing it? Thanks.

    dbaile wrote:
How do I check if the tracks are sending MIDI to the Oxygen? I'm pretty sure that's what's going on but don't know how to stop it. Thanks much.
Have you first tried the test I suggested.
A test... go to the upper left MENU in Logic, select Preferences/Control Surfaces/Bypass All Control Surfaces
Quit Logic, turn the Oxygen Off ot unplug the USB cable, restart the Mac, let it settle a minute, power on the Oxygen, wait 30 seconds and then start Logic. If the Oxygen seems to be working ok then it's control surface related.
Using the Inspector on the right hand side you cab see where the track is sending it's output.  MIDI could only be sent to the Oxygen from an Internal MIDI track or an Environment Object with it's output set to the Oxygen IN.
Sounds like a control surface thing to me.
Go to that menu selection I described above and select  "Rebuild Defaults"
    Then Test
If No change select "Bypass All Control Surfaces"
    Test

  • Midi stops working in Logic 9.1

When using Logic 9.1 I have been having midi crashes that require me to restart Logic. All Audio files will still play but I cannot play any 3rd party or Logic softsynths. I am getting a midi signal from my keyboard to my MOTU Ultralite interface but for some reason Logic does not respond to any midi signal. It usually works after I force quit Logic and restart. Any ideas what might be going on?

I also have this happen sometimes. The best way I have found to get the Logic Control back online is to turn it off, then unplug my MIDI interface USB conection. OK through the two alerts that come up, reconnect the MIDI interface and power on the Logic Control. This can all be done while Logic is runnning.
By the way, I have an original Emagic Logic Control with the upgraded EPROM chip and version 2.1.2. I also had the same trouble when I had the original EPROM and with each software version since the first.

  • MIDI keyboard stops working with Logic Pro 9

Hi so I have an M-Audio keystation 49es for Logic pro 9 for a few months now and never had problems. now when im in logic and i press a few keys on the keyboard, i hear sound coming out for about 5 seconds and then all sound is gone or the note sustains and all signal from the midi keyboard is lost. And so i turn off the keyboard and turn it back on and the same thing happens over and over. I tried restarting the mac, restarting logic, switching usb ports, trying different projects, and i have the same problem. Any help??!

    Have you tried this button?

  • Yamaha DX7 slave sustain pedal won't work in LOGIC 7.

the sustain pedal definately works on the DX7, but it's midi message is not being recognized, I guess? When pressing both keys and the sustain pedal seperately I can see that the MIDI message is definately being sent through my MOTU Traveler interface as evidenced by the MIDI-IN light glowing. How can I sustain the notes that I am playing while recording? Which drop down menus shall I be looking at? How do I find controller number 64 to turn it on if that is infact what I need to do?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
Some old keyboards use a diferent polarity in the sustain. I'm not sure you can set a diferent sustain polarity at LP. If not, use another sustain pedal, (you'll see it won't work right in you DX7), but you can fix it changing the sustain pedal polarity at you DX7.
    Hope it helps you

  • When will MainStage get the EVB3 sustain pedal fix that's in Logic?

shouldn't there be a fix for this problem in a MainStage release?
right now the behavior is fixed in Logic, but not in MainStage...
that the fix doesn't come out simultaneously for both hosts... plausible, but not at all?
please don't hammer me for wanting a sustain pedal to work in a B3 emulator. It's for live work, and I layer pianos and organs quite effectively... :-)
    Weird...

  • USB AT2020 microphone, used to work in Logic, has stopped

I  have a USB AT2020 microphone. It works great in Garageband and it used to work in Logic. Recently, it has stopped working in logic, but continues to work in garageband. Sometimes when it is working my record option dissapears on my logic tracks. Any suggestions? I am fairly new to logic but have outgrown garageband. I use logic 8

I also have an AT2020 USB mic and it works fine in Logic. Do you actually need an aggregate device for some reason? If you also want to use a USB interface with analog mics, for example, then you would need to make an aggregate device. If you only want to use the AT2020 for input, you should not need an aggregate device.
Open the Audio MIDI Setup program (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and choose the Audio window. You should see a list of all available devices connected to your system and AT2020 USB should be one of them.If so, then it should also be available in Logic using the Input Devices dropdown menu under Preferences > Audio. You can just choose it there and you should be all set.
But if you need to use an aggregate device, I have found that sometimes following a reboot that they are messed up. Just quit Logic, delete the aggregate device in the Audio MIDI setup application and create a new one. Now start Logic again and you should be able to choose it from the Audio preferences.
If you want to adjust the level of the mic, use Audio MIDI setup again. Click on the AT2020 USB icon in the left pane of the window. You will see two sliders, one for each channel. Set them to whatever you like. You can even do this while Logic is running if you like.
You can do the same thing with an aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup. Click the little triangle next to the aggregate device in the left pane of the Audio Devices window, then click on AT2020 USB and you will again have volume sliders to adjust.
