SVCHost.exe takes 100% cpu on random occasions

Ok so I have had a rather interesting problem and I don't know for sure if it is related to the sound blaster card in my computer or not.
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS. Once in a while, usually later at night an svchost.exe process starts taking up 00% of my cpu. If I kill it and run any programs after killing it that use sound, I get no sound until I restart my PC. Programs that are running while that process takes 00% of my cpu keep their sound even after I kill the process until I close and reopen those programs. These programs consist of things like World of Warcraft, Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player and the like.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what it might be, and possibly a solution.
Thanks
::edit:: renamed svchost.dll to correct name of svchost.exe. Was confused my bad!Message Edited by jziah86 on 05-4-200702:43 PM

Aware that svchost is not a driver. Aware that it manages the functions of any program that opens and is running on your system. Aware that Creative driver is loaded and problem with an instance of svc.host begins to display and that 00% of system resources are in use. Aware that when that instance of svc.host is ended that the problem is resolved and that the sound card will no longer function. Visitng other forums lead me to the investigate the Creative issue further. It is clear that there is a relationship between the loading of the Audigy sound card driver and the malfunction in the management of memory and system resources at a root level. The claim being made at present is that there is a conflict between the driver and something in a recent XP update from our friends and family at Microsoft. Since this is on one of my home systems, this weekend I will try to rollback to an older driver to see if it makes any difference. I will then try a different sound card to see if the problem persists. If so, I'll simply dump my Audigy card(s) and move onto something else. Hate to do it, but I don't have the time to fix their problem. Any other suggestions - especially from the Creative people who have advised that my card is beyond warranty and I can pay them to try to find a solution. Well, I'll pay for another sound card first! Don't expect them to fix my problems, but to fix their own. Like many buyers I do a lot of research BEFORE I purchase new components. Reviews and user comments mean a lot.

Is this a new application on this database?
Has it run well in the past?
I have had this happen before on a 32bit Windows server. Our problem was a poorly written procedure that kept pegging the cpu to 100%. You should be able to figure out what SQL is being used that is causing this problem, it will be the Top Working SQL most likely.
I also had this problem on a Logical Standby server which was trying to apply SQL to the SYS.AUD$ table. As soon as SQL Apply was started, the CPU went to 100%. Once I truncated that table, the cpu usage went back to normal. Not sure what you are using to monitor your database but if you can, try to find out what SQL is running when your CPU goes to 100%.

I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 on XP and now it and applemobiledeviceservice.exe use 100% CPU. How do I fix this?

When I called Apple Support to ask about the 100%  CPU usage, they wanted to charge me because my Ipod was out of warranty.  I insisted on talking to someone and finally got to talk to a software engineer for free.  He said that he had never heard of the problem in his three years at Apple.  Nonetheless, he sounded really interested and suggested that it might be a conflict with anti-virus software.   I deleted the antiviruse and that DID NOT HELP AT ALL.
It seems as if Apple could care less.    There is no official response.   Their primary response is to look at the Forum.   At least you find out that the problem isn't your fault, it really is Apple!!!!
So far the best solution is just to delete iTunes and use Mediamonkey to sync your pod.
    Apple, please fix this!!!!!

  • Java process take 100% cpu

    Hello,
I have a webapp running on Tomcat 5.0.28/RHEL 3.0. After some time (approximatively 1 hour), a java process take 100% cpu load and never stop, but the application do nothing.
Some detail on my configuration :
Distribution : Redhat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (updated)
    Kernel 2.4.21-37.0.1.ELsmp
    Glibc 2.3.2-95.37
JVM : JRockit 1.4.2.08 (the last one)
    Tomcat : 5.0.28
    Server : 2*Xeon 3GHz HT, 2Go RAM
    JVM param : -Xmx:256m -Xms:256m
    Thanks for your answers ...

Try taking thread dump (send a SIGQUIT to JRockit using "kill"). If you
get a thread dump, the VM is alive, and it's probably your java program
that's broken. In that case, make a JRA recording to see what's happening:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/docs142/usingJRA/jra.html
The methods pane is probably what you're looking for.
If you don't get any thread dump when sending a SIGQUIT to JRockit,
    come back here.

  • Zenity takes 100% CPU Time

When I run as root or normal User
    zenity --notification --text="test"
The zenity process takes 100% Cpu time
    System:
    Arch 32bit gnome 2.22
    Last edited by brickwedde.eu (2008-05-06 11:26:00)

    I GOT IT... I think.
zenity --notification actually calls libnotify! I was trying out a script and suddenly realized something, because by chance dbus decided to take a break. Take a look at these two code fragments.
    $ zenity --info --text "hello"
    $ _
    $ zenity --notification --text "hello"
libnotify-Message: Unable to get session bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-jmMdFXbznS: Connection refused
    <hang>
    <100% CPU usage>
I've figured out why: it's basic socket programming gone wrong. The notification part of zenity calls libnotify, tries to connect to libnotify's socket, and fails, using 100% CPU waiting for the connection to... end a stream that never started.
A possible solution is to just use notify-send.

  • Labview Loop Takes 100% cpu

    Hello,
I'm wondering the best way to send a serial command when a button is pressed.  Right now I have a while loop that checks if the button is pressed each time.  If is is, it sends the serial command and adds the response to a text box via a shift register.  If not, the original text box info is passed to the shift register.  However, this loop takes 100% cpu (ok, only one core at 100% so technically %50), and I think its because the text box is getting overwriten every cycle.  However, I'm not sure how else to do it.  Attached is a print screen, let me know if you would like the file.
    Thanks,
    Eric

An event structure is the best way.  The next best way is to simply put in a wait in the loop.

  • Windows Server 2012R2 - svchost.exe 60-100% load!

We are using RDS collection with two Windows Server 2012R2 session hosts. Both hosts are virtual servers (clean installation) and are used as session hosts (terminals) with 10 to 25 users each. RDS Connection Broker is also virtual machine with Windows
Server 2012 R2. Our users are using Windows 7 Embedded thin clients with MSTSC RDP 8.0.
There is problem with high cpu load on these servers. Sometimes Svchost.exe starts to cause 60-100% load. Our virtual machines have 10 virtual processor cores. Load is caused by LSM (Local Session Manager) Service from DCOM Launcher group. Svchost
creates many thread as you can see on picture attached. Sometimes this load disappears after 12-24 hours, sometimes it needs restarting whole server.
We still cannot find cause of this problem, although we managed to reproduce this issue one time by logging two admin accounts to server console and force disconnecting one of these accounts by third admin account connecting to server console by RDP
    mstsc.exe with -admin parameter.
Our users are very unsatisfied :-(
This is screenshot of Process Explorer - svchost.exe - Threads:

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Do you have any recent updates, might happens due to automatic updates which also can cause high cpu through svchost.exe. Please check as suggested by “Larry” by turning off Windows update service. In addition go through beneath articles for more information.

in addition you might want to trace the session to find out what it is waiting for. In 10g you can use the DBMS_MONITOR package to enable the tracing, and then use the "tkprof" utility as outlined in the article to get the trace file generated analyzed.
You can also use the V$SESSION view (BLOCKING_SESSION_STATUS, BLOCKING_SESSION, BLOCKING_INSTANCE) to find out if the session is blocked for any reason, although it shouldn't consume CPU in that case.

  • Reader 9.1 (Linux) takes 100% CPU

Initially when starting Adobe Reader and opening a document everything is fine. But after a few minutes Reader takes up to 100% CPU. This also happens when starting Adobe Reader without opening a document.
    It's Adobe Reader 9.1 (AdobeReader_enu-9.1.0-1.i486) on Fedora 10 (i386)

    Hello there,
I can reproduce the same issue. I just start acroread (without any options or files), wait some time and suddenly acroread starts to use one whole cpu. Here some information about the system:
    > cat /etc/issue
    CentOS release 5.2 (Final)
    > uname -a
    Linux wumc0310 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 #1 SMP Tue Dec 16 11:57:43 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    > acroread -v
    9.1.0
I also tried the trick with
    > ACRO_DISABLE_FONT_CONFIG=1 acroread
    but it didn't change anything.
Do you got some ideas how I can track down this problem? I tried to use
    > acroread -DEBUG
but here absolutely nothing happened, just with
    > acroread -DEBUG acroread
    the reader started and shows
    Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/Annots.api ... [dlopen success for Annots.api, handle = 0xbf32f68]
    Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/EScript.api ... [dlopen success for EScript.api, handle = 0xca14620]
after some minutes the next plugin info occured:
    Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/EFS.api ... [dlopen success for EFS.api, handle = 0xcc1fad0]
and some minutes later, the acroread process started to use the whole cpu...
If I start acroread and try to trace the programm, at first the output looks like:

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?

  • Crystalras.exe consuming 100% CPU usage

    Hi everyone,
When we try to open an instance of one of our Crystal reports from InfoView, the crystalras.exe process runs at 100% CPU usage and the report never shows up. After a few minutes, we get the following message:
The request timed out because there has been no reply from the server for 600,000 milliseconds.
Does anyone know where the problem could come from? Could this be because the report is retrieving too much data?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Dear Both,
I traced the RAS server as suggested by Tim and obtained a log that - I have to admit - is quite difficult for me to understand. Could I send it to one of you for examination? Thanks in advance.
Ted, please find below my answers to your questions:
Just to close out possible data source issues, are the reports going against Business Views or Universes?
The report is based on Business Views.
Do you have Processing Extensions specified for the reports?
Sorry but what are Processing Extensions?
Also, when you checked in the Crystal Reports Designer, was it Designer installed on the same machine where the page server and RAS server is running?
Yes, it is installed on the same machine.
Also, since it affects both Page Server and RAS, it may require CRPE traces to get to the bottom of this (CRPE - 'creepy' - is the CR engine used by both the Page and RAS server).
I will certainly open a case with SAP to have them help me on that.
Thank you both for your help. It is very appreciated.

  • Ifweb60.exe takes all CPU on webserver-Forms Prod. mgmt

I have 3 tier setup. Database 81741 on windows2000 SP3. Webserver on windows2000 SP2 using forms6i patch 11(6.0.8.20.1). Clients using IE5.05/IE6 to access database. Sometimes, a user hangs the process and kills his session from his PC, even reboots client. The process is still there on webserver and goes on taking more CPU and more memory till it cloggs the webserver. It has taken almost 100%CPU. How can we eliminate this process without rebooting the webserver.
I tried killing the session from the database end, it is still there on webserver. The user says he waited for 2 mins to respond the application and then killed using ctrl-alt-del. Is there a way to kill the session on the webserver. When we try killing using Task Manager, it says 'access denied' and wouldn't let us kill. Even, tried with FORMS60_TIMEOUT. IN normal situation, this worked but in this case where a application hanged & user killed, FORMS60_TIMEOUT even didn't kill the process ifweb60.exe.
Someone has a idea how to prevent from rebooting webserver again and again...other than to check all 100 forms for any infinite loops and fix that.
    Thanks a lot.

I believe this is a known bug.
As a work-around you could try to add FORMS60_CATCHTERM=0 to the registry.
This probably will cause Dr. Watson on the webserver box, but should kill the process.
    Slava.

  • Apdproxy.exe at 100% CPU

From time to time that program slows my computer to a crawl. I was able to get rid of it by editing the registry, but i am curious why it needs to take 100% of the CPU?

Just upgraded to the latest version of reader yesterday to open a new document. My computer has been running so slow today. I just had a look and apdproxy is sitting at 99%. Adobe needs to get their act together!

  • ESSSVR.exe utilizing 100% CPU

    Hello Everyone
I have just finished a fresh install of Essbase 11, migrated a few applications over, and for a time everything works as it should.
But leave the server running for a couple of days (with very little usage) and the essbase service utilizes 100% cpu, making the essbase unusable. The event reoccurs after service & server reboot
I'm fairly new to the Essbase world :) any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Essbase 11.1.1
    Windows Server 2003 SP2, 4way CPU 4GB ram

Have you looked at the Essbase.log and application logs?
Tried to see which application (a given app will be tied to a ESSSVR.EXE process, but the only way to know is to see what databases are actively loaded -- it is a pain) is running? Any automated actions that may cause it to fire off? Again, the application log will be your guide.
Or is it ESSBASE.EXE that's logging 100% of the CPU? It can't be CPUs as even in 11x the Essbase agent is still single threaded (I believe that to still be true).
I'll throw out that there may be some antivirus/backup software out there conflicting with Essbase, but the behavior you describe isn't typical -- usually it's a database that can't stop/unload/calculate/etc because .PAG/.IND in BSO and .DAT files in ASO are locked -- but I suppose it's still a possibility.
Obviously something is making Essbase throw restraint to the wind -- the logs can help you.
