Hi Skywurd,
When did the issue start to occur ?Will the issue persist ?
Have you checked the services included in the svchost.exe from the task manager ?
The only suspect process is the NvStreamNetworkService.exe,it is a process belonged to Nividia .We can try to update the Nividia driver or reinstall the driver to have a check .

  • AE only using 25 percent of my CPU

I would like to get faster renders.  I have noticed that after effects is only using 25 percent of my cpu.  Is there any way to crank that all the way up to 100 percent like Premier does automatically?

First of all do you  work for Adobe?
I do not work for Adobe. I'm a user like you. People on forums helped me out a lot when I was first learning AE over a decade ago and I like giving back to the communities that helped me so much.
    CARLOSA345 wrote:
All 3d applications which are doing more intense calculations than AE dont require fine tuning to work properly.
This is a very valid frustration. It certainly seems as if it should behave differently.
However, your statement also demonstrates the core of the reason for the RAM/CPU behavior you've described. 3d software is doing more intense calculations. That's why it maxes the processors out, but look at the RAM use. For many of the 3d renders I do, the RAM isn't even halfway used yet all the cores are cranking away on my computer (plus all the cores on all the other computers I've wrangled into the render farm). After Effects is doing a lot of things that 3d software doesn't do, and so it uses system resources differently. It needs more RAM (for some compositions) and thus you're waiting on RAM while the processors seem to sit idle.
I've seen some folks with very footage-heavy compositions where their RAM and processors are sitting pretty idle because the bottleneck is their hard drive. If you're pulling 45 1080P clips at once for a shot, it's gonna take a bit for a normal hard drive to serve that up (luckily for me at my full-time job, I don't use normal hard drives).
But this is the crux of the problem. AE is such a versatile toolbox. It does things like DOF, 3d lights, soft shadows, particles, etc. but it also does keying, rotoscoping, stabilization and many other tasks. Some may rely on system resources other than the processors. That's why Adobe has made AE as tweakable as it is - they serve such a wide variety of uses.
Although, speaking of tweaking, have you seen how much tweaking you can do on C4D? It has a LOT more things in it to tweak than AE does. It doesn't usually crash though, but then, neither does my AE (which is why I suggested we could help figure out your issues).
And speaking of things sitting there idle, I would love for C4D to implement some form of GPU rendering natively as an option. I have very powerful GPUs in my computers at work (because my boss didn't listen to my technical request) and so it just sits there while C4D pounds on the processors. We haven't had time to do research into all the various GPU rendering plugins for C4D in order to make a choice and it frustrates the heck out of me to have all that horsepower just sitting there, idle.

Also you tell me that the team is working on the problem so what good would it do to start a thread on it you can find threads on this subject by the bunches and its never really resolved.
The reason I suggested starting a thread was that I hoped the folks here in the forum could help you get your systems running without crashing on you. While I may have over a decade of experience, if you put the experience of the other folks on the forum together we have many centuries of experience. The veterans on these forums don't have the crashing issues you seem to be describing. Thus, I thought we might be able to help resolve your problems and remove the frustration you're experiencing.
Other threads from other people are running different systems than you are. Different OS, different hardware, different third-party plugins... If the majority of AE users had the crashing problems you're describing, AE wouldn't be the powerhouse in the industry that it is. That is what sparked my hope that there may be something fixable for you. RAM filling up while the processors sit at 25% might not be fixable by troubleshooting, but crashing probably can be.
And yes, the AE team says they're working on making it better, but it takes a while to rewrite software that is as complicated as AE is. This is not the kind of change that comes in a month or two. So, in the meantime, I thought we could help you work within the parameters of your current toolset until it improves.
I'm sure you've already been through these resources, but if you don't want to get help from the folks on the forums, it wouldn't hurt to take another look:

  • System Slow/Freezes on startup - svchost.exe uses 8GB+ RAM

    Hi,
At each boot, my computer is low. In task manager i see
svchost.exe -k LocalService will max out around at around 8GB of 16Gb RAM and the process disappear after 4 and 5 minutes and my computer works normally after that.
I have no idea what is going on but I suspect 4 files of 2 Go in C:\Windows\System32\NetworkList\Icons

    Hi,
For this problem, in my opinion, it would be better to make troubleshooting with Windows startup diagnosis tool, you can refer to the contents of the link below for more details:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/10128.tools-for-troubleshooting-slow-boots-and-slow-logons-sbsl.aspx
Since you said it work fine in Safe Mode, you can also check is there any program start up with system, then try to disable them for test if Windows works fine.

  • Service Host (svchost.exe) Using 99% CPU

    Hey guys-
I know this question has been asked for other Windows OS's, but none of their fixes apply on Windows 8.
When I log in, everything is fine, everything is very smooth and even faster than when I used Windows 7, but after a few minutes my CPU becomes locked at ~99%, mostly because of svchost.
As it appears on Task Manager, the process is Service Host (No Impersonation). The sub-processes are Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Recovery, Time Broker, and UPnP Device Host. I tried several fixes that worked in XP or 7, but they either
can't be used in 8 or detect nothing is wrong.
This is the only thing that makes me dislike 8 so far, a fix would be fantastic.

Make a xperf trace to see the cause. Install the WPT (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt-en-us.aspx),
open a CMD prompt with admin rights and type this:
xperf -on latency -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 512 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d highCPUUsage.etl
after you captured 30s of the cpu usage, go back to CMD prompt and press a key to stop the logging. Now compress the highCPUUsage.etl as 7z (LZMA2, ULTRA) to reduce the size. Upload this file to your SkyDrive or Dropbox and post a link
    here.
If you have upgraded from Windows 8.1 and you have a high CPU usage that you can't detect in Process Explorer like shown here:
you have an issue with a scheduled task. Look at the green "sdclt.exe". This means the sdclt.exe is started very often. This causes the CPU usage.
You can see this best in ProcessMonitor:
The solution is to disable this task in the task scheduler:
Also phone the Support and open a case so that MS can fix this issue.

Hi, in two systems one is windows 2008 32bit and 64bit we are facing issue that svchost.exe is utilizing proc more than 50%. Both systems are updated with the windows updates.
    Please help.

    Hi,
The SVCHOST can registered many service if necessary, any of this service may cause the svchost service high CPU, therefore the quick method is uninstall the recently installed
new software, if it not work you can refer the following example article for the further troubleshooting.

  • Svchost.exe taking up almost all of my cpu after the computer has been running for a number of hours

My computer is almost a year old and it is a custom build gaming rig with the following specs
    Intel Core i5-3570k CPU @ 3.40GHz
    8.0GB of Ram
    AMD Radeon HD 6870
    running windows 8.1
The issue is that after a few hours my computer starts to drastically drop in performance. This is due to two reasons. Firstly explore.exe starts to use up my cpu. I can easily stop this by using process explorer to close the offending thread (only 1 thread
i causing the issue, the rest are using minimal cpu) killing this thread reduces the cpu and appears to have no concequence in terms of functionality of my pc.
After this on average ten minutes later what happen is that svchost.exe starts using from 40%-60% of my cpu at which point if I do not quit any game I am playing my computer will crash. using process explorer to find the offending threads lead me to a thread
with a TID of 1836. If I kill this process I lose internet connection. Yet before this happens there is no sign of this thread. It appears to not be present until the issue appears and when it does appear this process is essential to my internet connection.
    Please can someone help me

  • 100% CPU Utilization by svchost.exe evidently due to Acrobat reader & Adobe players

I have been working on a PC that was rendered inoperable because svchost.exe pegged the CPU @ 100%. After working on it for a couple of hours, I reformatted the HD & restored the OS. In the process of re-installing programs, when I got to the Adobe products (Flash, Shockwave, Air & Acrobat reader) again svchost.exe was pegging the CPU @ 100%. So I removed the 4 above mentioned & restored the PC to just before the installation, and the PC was back to normal. Next I re-installed Acrobat reader, and svchost.exe pegged the processor again at 100%. After removing Acrobat reader & going back to the restore point, everything was normal again. The next time I tried just the Flash & Shockwave players, and pegged again. Would draw the same conclusion as me that there is a problem with the Adobe downloads? I have another PC on my bench that seems to have the same problem. If there is anyone from Adobe that would like to address this issue please contact me. [email protected]

This is a user-to-user forum, and it is very unlikely that someone "from Adobe" will contact you. It is not recommended that you post your email address in a public forum, as it will only attract spambots.
The fact that svchost is using high CPU resources (without any of the Adobe products actually running) indicates to me that you have something in your startup items that triggers svchost usage. Examine your startup list and eliminate anything that could doing that.

  • Z500. Runtimebroker.exe using 25% of CPU. Just upgraded to win10.

I noticed my laptop was running hot which usually only does when I'm playing CPU intensive work like playing games or rendering something. I checked on task manager to find the culprit to be runtime broker using up 25% of my CPU nonstop. From what I've learned googling the subject, runtime errors come up due to faulty programs causing memory leaks. I've never had that problem before in windows 8 and technically I haven't installed a new program in windows 10. Anybody knows what might be causing this? Context: z500, Newly upgraded windows 10, using spotify and bluetooth speakers. Other program used were only MS edge, Google Chrome, Adobe Reader DC, and MS OneNote. Laptop was turned on for hours but I restart from time to time. Errors encountered was the annoying Graphics Card has crashed and successfully recovered error when coming back from sleep (to which I have found no solutions since Windows 8)
tl;drAre there any known issues that might cause memory leaks and increase CPU activity of runtimebroker.exe to 25%.?

  • 100% CPU utilization on svchost.exe or Automatic Updates service

We have upgraded from WSUS 2.0 to 3.0 SP1 and now have few Windows XP SP2 PCs that are extremely slow because the CPU is at 100% utilization running a process called "svchost.exe."  If I go into services and stop and disable the "Automatic Updates" service the CPU drop to normal almost instantly.  I tried forcing a reinstall of the Windows Update Agent.  After I enable the "Automatic Updates" service the machine works fine for a day, than after a reboot it goes back to 100% CPU utilization.  We need this fixed so we can get these computers updates.

    Hi Ryan / Folks,
NO CA Products here - but I have had the same issues with Microsoft updates!
Here's the install path I used during my experience :
Cold install of XP with SP1 on the PC (Full factory system restore/rebuild).
    Acer - Semperon 1.8GHz + 1GB RAM - 8Mb ADSL connection to Internet
    XP SP2
Windows updates OK - used to install IE7
Reason - I found IE is compromised if you go straight to XP SP3
    XP SP3
    Next Office 2003 Pro
Switch to Microsoft updates - Custom Updates - SVCHost issue - Still checking for updates after 15 minutes
Switch back to Windows updates - Custom Updates - NO SVCHost Issue - Checking complete after 2 minutes
Tried both Microsoft fixes mentioned above
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891
Same report back - i.e. SP3 newer etc.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 - Method 2
    Seems to install ok
    Reboot PC
Swich back to manual Microsoft Updates and all is not really rosey as the initial "checking updates" scan can take at least 5 minutes with SVCHost at better than 90% CPU usage. So I believe the issue is not fixed, but it is just about useable.
Interestingly, no issues on my work LAN where I am the systems manager - 20 PCs and 8 servers using WSUS. All units are up to date and no SVCHost issues.
So.... No fix yet here, however my solution is as follows:
On the problematic PC I decided to switch back to Automatic Windows Updates. This keeps the PC up to date with all Operating System patches. Performance is not affected. I have decided that I will manually switch to the Microsoft update system once every couple of weeks or so to catch the updates for Office etc. I'll just have to set the updates scan running over a quiet period I suppose.
Plan B = Manual Office Updates http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloads/default.aspx - Left Pane - Office Updates.
    Hope this sheds some light.
    Regards,
    Knaphie

  • Svchost.exe causing CPU usage to go up and down

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum but I rarely ever post here.  However I have run into an issue that I am unable to find assistance on.  On all of our domain controllers (3) running Server 2008 x64 we see the CPU spiking up and down.  The
CPU will start out next to nothing then jumps to 100% for a second, then returns to next to nothing for a second, then jumps to 100% for a second.... and so on.  Using Process Explorer we found out it is an svchost process that runs DHCP Client,
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, and Windows Event Log services.  If we kill the process we can start all the services back up without any issues except for the Windows Event Log service.  As soon as we start the Windows Event Log service the CPU starts spiking
up and down again.  There do not seem to be an unusual # of events being logged and we don't have any auditing turned on so I am not sure what is going on.  I was able to gather a procdump that I have posted below.  I will continue to investigate
but was just wondering if someone could offer any insight?

    Hi,
SVCHOST.EXE is a generic host process for services. There can be multiple SVCHOST.EXE running on a system and each SVCHOST.EXE can also hold multiple
    services.
The first step is to identify the Process ID (PID) of the SVCHOST.EXE that is pegging the CPU.
This can be done through Task Manager->Processes tab. If the PID column is not present, you can add it by selecting View->Select Columns and check the PID checkbox.
Once the PID is identified, the next step is to determine which services are running under the PID. From a Command Prompt, type:
    TASKLIST.EXE /SVC
TASKLIST.EXE will list all the processes and PID’s running on the system. Look for the PID in question and check the Services column. This will give
you a list of Services to start investigating.

  • SVCHost.exe takes 100% cpu on random occasions

Ok so I have had a rather interesting problem and I don't know for sure if it is related to the sound blaster card in my computer or not.
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS. Once in a while, usually later at night an svchost.exe process starts taking up 00% of my cpu. If I kill it and run any programs after killing it that use sound, I get no sound until I restart my PC. Programs that are running while that process takes 00% of my cpu keep their sound even after I kill the process until I close and reopen those programs. These programs consist of things like World of Warcraft, Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player and the like.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what it might be, and possibly a solution.
    Thanks
::edit:: renamed svchost.dll to correct name of svchost.exe. Was confused my bad!Message Edited by jziah86 on 05-4-200702:43 PM

Aware that svchost is not a driver. Aware that it manages the functions of any program that opens and is running on your system. Aware that Creative driver is loaded and problem with an instance of svc.host begins to display and that 00% of system resources are in use. Aware that when that instance of svc.host is ended that the problem is resolved and that the sound card will no longer function. Visitng other forums lead me to the investigate the Creative issue further. It is clear that there is a relationship between the loading of the Audigy sound card driver and the malfunction in the management of memory and system resources at a root level. The claim being made at present is that there is a conflict between the driver and something in a recent XP update from our friends and family at Microsoft. Since this is on one of my home systems, this weekend I will try to rollback to an older driver to see if it makes any difference. I will then try a different sound card to see if the problem persists. If so, I'll simply dump my Audigy card(s) and move onto something else. Hate to do it, but I don't have the time to fix their problem. Any other suggestions - especially from the Creative people who have advised that my card is beyond warranty and I can pay them to try to find a solution. Well, I'll pay for another sound card first! Don't expect them to fix my problems, but to fix their own. Like many buyers I do a lot of research BEFORE I purchase new components. Reviews and user comments mean a lot.

  • Explorer.exe uses too much CPU cycles (roughly 50%)... How can I fix this?

    Hi everyone,
In the last two days I have noticed a serious loss in system performance.  The first thing I do when I come accross a performance issue is to make sure that I don't have any scheduled automatic scans running in the background, such as my antivirus.  If they aren't, I then open the task manager and check to see what process(es) is(are) causing the performance issue based on CPU usage.  I discovered that explorer.exe is now regularly using approximately 50% of my CPU power AT ALL TIMES (with fluctuations ranging from as low as 35% to as high as 99%, but 45%-55% is the most common range).
Now I thought this might have been some sort of fluke, so I rebooted several times, and in all cases I find explorer.exe continues to use this hefty amount of CPU power.  This persists even if I leave the system alone (running, but not being used) for 15 minutes or more.
This is causing major performance issues with trying to run any/all other applications on the system, and even worse performance issues if I try to use explorer for something such as directory navigation, file searching, or file access.
I recently made an update to Windows (about a day before this problem arose), so I thought that might be the cause of this, so I ran a system restore to the restore point made before the install.  That didn't fix the problem.  Since the problem has only started in the last two days, I restored to a point three days ago.  That didn't fix it either.  I have since tried to restore to points 5 and 7 days old, and neither of those worked to fix this problem either.
I can use the task manager to end-task explorer.exe, and then restart it using "new task" from the file menu, and this seems to correct the problem.  After doing such a "restart" of explorer.exe, the process no longer uses 50% of my CPU power, and instead uses only 0%-20% depending on what I'm doing.  This, however, is not a viable long-term solution for a couple of reasons:  1) it screws up my tray icons, causing many to disappear even though their parent programs/processes are still running, and causing others to appear even though they shouldn't be there; and 2) subsequent instances of explorer.exe such as for directory navigation still have some performance problems and are prone to crashes.
I need to know how to repair or replace explorer.exe without having to format my hard drive and re-install (either from scratch or using a system recovery disc).  I can try using some sort of shell replacement such as Aston, Emerge, or GeoShell, but I shouldn't have to do that.
It may be that one of my other startup applications is causing some sort of compatibility issue, but that seems unlikely since I haven't made any changes to the system, nor installed any new software other than standard windows updates.
I need help, advice, suggestions, etc., or really anything at all that I can try that might fix this problem.  In the meantime, I am going to boot into safe mode to see if explorer.exe has problems even then (which would solidly indicate a corruption of explorer.exe rather than a compatibility issue or anything else).
Please help if you can.  For reference, I am using an HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC, running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit with Service Pack 1.  I have an Intel Core2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz CPU and 3GB of RAM.  My explorer.exe file gives the following information from the Details tab of its Properties window:  file version is 6.0.6001.18000; product version is 6.0.6000.16386; file size is 2.79MB; and modification date is 1/20/2008 at 6:24pm.  As far as I know, that is all correct information and does not indicate that the program file has been replaced by any sort of malicious software.  I also ran a complete scan with AVG Antivirus and found no viruses or other malicious software anywhere on the system (unless you count tracking cookies).
Thank you in advance for any help

     Edward Lin wrote:
I have exactly the same problem!!!  And I concluded that the “AUTO CONNECT” function is the main reason of causing the CPU usage.  If I uncheck the “AUTO CONNECT” from the saved wi-fi connection, then the CPU would remain claim.
But.. Still, it’s very annoying.  So I formatted the hard drive and restore to the original factory condition.  Initially, it was working ok.  But after WINDOW UPDATES, the same problem happens again!!!!!!  May this be the bug from Microsoft??
Any thought??  Any Fix?  Please help!!!!
Yes, I did notice that the problem started after I did a Windows Update.  I can't remember which update it was, but the strange thing about it was that I couldn't fix the problem by restoring the system to a restore point that was made BEFORE the update.  Since I hadn't made any other changes to the system between when it worked and when it stopped working, I can only assume that the update caused the problem, and as such I believe it IS Microsoft's fault.
As to the Auto-Connect feature, I hadn't even thought of that, but since I use my internet ALL THE TIME, it would be really annoying to have to manually connect every boot up.
Which brings me back to the workaround.  If you have Auto-Connect enabled, and you disable WLAN AutoConfig and set it to Manual in your Services interface, then reboot the system, does it solve the CPU issues?  If the answer is yes, then you can do what I'm doing:
    1.  Go to Start, then in the search box type "task" and you should see the Task Scheduler come up as an option.
    2.  Open the Task Scheduler and click on "Create Task..." (by default this should be on the right-hand side of the window in the Actions pane).
    3.  In the General tab, give the task a name and (optionally) a description, and put a check mark in the box at the lower left that says "Run with highest privileges".
    4.  In the Triggers tab, add a trigger.  In the new window, choose "At log on" from the dropdown box at the top, set it to run for "Any user", and then head to the advanced settings section of the window.  Put a check mark in the box for "Delay task for:" and set the delay for one minute.  Make sure that there is a check mark in the box for "Enabled".  Then click OK.
    5.  In the Actions tab, add an action.  In the new window, make sure that "Start a program" is selected in the drop down box at the top (should be the default choice).  In the field where you specify the program to run, type in "SC".  In the "Add arguments (optional):" field, type in "Start wlansvc".  Then click OK.
    6.  Go through the other tabs to make sure you're happy with all of the other settings.  The default values should be just fine, but feel free to change them if you want to.  Then click OK.
    7.  Make sure that WLAN AutoConfig is still set to Manual.
    8.  Re-enable your Auto-Connect feature.
    9.  Reboot the system.
About 60 seconds after you log into your user account you should see a black command window flash onto the screen and then disappear again.  That is your automatic task running and starting up the WLAN AutoConfig servicve.  Another 30-60 seconds later and you should have access to your wireless network and the internet, and you don't have to interact with it or manually start anything.  You can also try setting the task delay to 30 seconds rather than 1 minute, but on my system that wasn't a long enough delay to prevent the CPU usage issues, whereas 1 minute was sufficient.  On my system, it enables the wireless before the system even finishes loading up my normal startup applications like my antivirus, so Idon't even notice a slowdown on the bootup process, let alone any wait time before I can use my internet.
This isn't a fix, and what we really need is for Microsoft to figure out what they did wrong, and fix it, but in the meantime, this works.
    Good luck
On a side note:  Unless Microsoft gets busy on fixing Vista so that it's backwards compatible with my old games, I'm still going to downgrade to XP (like a LOT of people have been doing for various reasons)... assuming I can find XP compatible hardware drivers anyway.  Right now I can get more of my games to run under Linux than I can under Vista, despite the fact that they were programmed to run in a DirectX Windows environment only... that's simply unacceptable.

  • Plugin-container.exe using 40% of cpu

    == Issue
    ==
Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
    == Description
    ==
    FYI, (thanks to all developers)
I rarely go to porn sites but the popunder-windows they generate caused the plugin-container.exe to use 40% of cpus (2 cpu). This is after I had closed all tabs and left my computer unattended. This popunder-window might have very-very-unusually slipped my attention due to my errand.
    Thanks again

Every time I start Firefox 8.0 the following programs runs continuously, i.e. Why does C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\IAM\Bin\asghost.exe run continually at almost 50% CPU use whenever Firefox is started?

Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode. Then start Firefox. Try '''Safe''' web sites.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Svchost constantly using 25% of CPU

Hello, I have an issue that I've spent hours troubleshooting and just can't figure it out. My CPU is constantly running at 25-30% and destroying my laptops battery life. According to Process Explorer it is svchost.exe eating up the CPU and points to ProfSVC
with wbemcore.dll as the start address.  I've tried to dig in and figure what process is behind this but haven't had any luck. I've made an xperf capture but I don't know how to analyze it to figure out what might be causing the problem. I can't link
it yet because apparently my account isn't verified. Once it is I'll upload that but in the meantime, if someone can point me in some possible areas to look, I would appreciate it.

    Hi IT789,
Regarding svchost.exe, here are some information I would like to share:
    What is svchost.exe?
For the account, you may select the link and press Ctrl + Shift + K to remove Hyperlink, which looks like this:
