Svg gradient issue

Hi,
I have a large flex 3.2 application where I'm trying to embed some svg files from our artist.  I'm saving them from illustrator in svg 1.1 format.   Everything seems to work fine except the gradients don't show up.  Now if I change the transparency from 100% to 99% then the gradients do show up... but the edges of the object get fuzzy.
So then I figure well I'll just set the stroke on this path to a solid color so its border is crisp.  When I do that the border shows up offset from the rest of the object.  So that looks even worse
I don't have the option to upgrade to Flex 4 and .fxg, we have over a year of development work put into this program now.  Is there anything I can do, or do I have to scrap gradients all together?
Thank you,
Eric

Crop marks are proprietary custom data and since the crop marks effect does not exist and a lot of otehr things have changed, CS6 simply can't re-create it because it doesn't find the effect referenced in the custom data or whatever. It would probably come over if you used native AI files, but CS6 would expand the appearance, so they become normal objects.

  • The Brightness Gradient Issue DOES EXIST With The 24" iMacs.

Four years ago I bought a hefty G4 eMac and a few months later the G5 iMac was introduced.
I was impressed and vowed I would get one the following year, but as each new version was introduced I put it off, waiting for an even better model.
I spend most of my time on the FCE forum but regularly visited this one to read about the various problems people were experiencing.
The G5s were prone to overheating, dead or stuck pixels have always been around, and latterly with the aluminium iMacs we have had the gradient issues.
All my life I have gone for the cheapest item that would do the job, but with the introduction of this latest version I decided to get the "best".
I bought it last Wednesday and was duly impressed.
To my relief it appeared to run cool and the screen did not seem to have any of the problems I had read about ........... though I did not examine it minutely.
Suddenly, yesterday (Sunday) I noticed that the "wallpaper" photo on the screen looked distinctly brighter on the left.
I put a uniform grey card on and there was no doubt ! I altered backgrounds and even moved my head to view from numerous (unnatural!) angles but the left side was undoubtedly brighter.
Writing this letter, the difference is very obvious.
What is more I don't need to test the whole monitor. Viewing a photo that is less than half the screen's width shows a brighter left side.
This leaves me with 2 questions which now I can never definitely resolve :-
    1. Has the screen been like this for the past 4 days and has my vision suddenly become more discriminating ?
    OR
    2. Has the screen suddenly deteriorated (and will it continue to deteriorate) ?
I have a nasty feeling it could be number 2 as I had looked at identical pictures in two windows of FCP (side by side), a couple of days ago, and noted that they were of equal brightness! Not so now.
I mainly use FCE/FCP and Photoshop, but being an amateur, I am not too fussy about the exact shade of a colour. So long as what I am watching is bright and sharp, I am usually content.
However, I must say that my current emotion is one of disappointment.
    Ian.

    That's very comforting George.
As you can guess, I was expecting it but thought I had escaped !

  • Will gradient issue 24" iMacs end up as refurbs?!

I've just ordered a 24" 2.8ghz Extreme refurb here in the UK. Now having read various posts over the net regarding the gradient issues, I'm worried I'll be opening my new machine to find a dodgy screen.
What is the likelihood that all the returned iMacs with gradient problems are just being sent out again as Refurbs?! Has anyone had any experiences with this?
    Thanks in advance

I think it's inevitable that iMacs returned for screen problems such as gradients or other aberrations will end up recirculating as reburbs, and I would also think most people buying a refurb system will have some concerns about prior existing faults or reliability, just as you have. However, in general terms there's nothing to suggest refurbs are less reliable than new, and based on Apple's published refurbishment procedures, every reason to believe they may actually be less prone to flaws and failures. Of course, that's assuming Apple actually do follow the procedure they claim.
I must say though that from personal experience, I would have no hesitation in buying a refurb. Not only is it more likely to have undergone thorough testing than a unit shipped directly from China or that has been sitting in a warehouse after production, waiting to be bought, but it is covered by the same warranty as a brand new unit, so even if it escaped the stringent testing Apple claim it does on these systems, and ends up exhibiting faults, you get it repaired or replaced like any other system.
Although I'm typing this on brand new 24" iMac at work, when I go home I'll be working off a 24" refurb of my own. You can't tell the difference, except mine cost $300 less!

  • AppleTV 2G Color Gradient Issue

    Hey there.
I just bought an AppleTV hooked it up to my TV via HMDI (how else…) and I have a strange kind of issue. Gradients look like they were taken from a gif... or something running 8bit/16bit color depth.
I have a 2-3years old Grundig Lenaro 32. Tried both of its HDMI ports. Neither seems to work correctly. I yet have to check it on another TV-set, but I doubt that it is an issue with the AppleTV or the HDMI cable.
My AppleTV runs the latest Firmware... and I also checked about every setting my TV has to offer.
Has anyone ever had a similiar issue or seen something like this. Any suggestions as to what causes the problem? I mean, HDMI being digitial shouldn't have signal issues or something like that.
    Take a look yourself:

Thanks for your help and Merry X-Mas to everyone.

Televisions have become commodities and it is difficult to learn much about their details. The manufacturers deliberately make it hard to learn more than the basic specifications, which are often nothing more than a list of features and the number of inputs and outputs. I bought a new Sony when I bought the Apple TV, but even Sony says little about what happens inside the television after you connect the inputs:
    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=1055 1&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666076677
Grundig is doing the same as Sony so it is unlikely that any television manufacturer would do more.

  • MacBook Pro Color Gradient Issue?

    Hey there,
I have a new MBP 15-inch with the LED backlit screen. Some sunset photos (with large areas of fine gradients), look pixely. I've seen the photos on a really nice CRT and there's no pixellation in the photos. They're 8 megapixel RAW files from a Canon DSLR.
Is this simply due to the LED screen's lack of color depth, or is my computer having issues?

    Hi there,
I have the same problem here with my MBP (Mid-Summer 2007, 2,4 GHz, LED) and I pretty sure, that this started to appear recently and wasnt there from the beginning. I you look down from the top of your screen (in a very sharp angle) then the affected area where gradients look bad is looking blue colored. I attached a "screen shot" of the greek sunset and another picture and screen shots with the same issue.
    TIA and greetings!

  • Radial fill gradient issue in Illustrator CS5

Recently created an illustration with an element — a compound path comprised of hundreds of small squares — filled with a radial gradient.  The image displays properly, prints properly, and exports properly as a PDF.  However, if I close the file and reopen it later, the element is no longer filled (although the fill is retained in the SWATCHES palette.

I am having the exact same problem. Illustator CS5 file previews correctly, saves to pdf correctly. But, when you close and reopen the Illustrator file, my gradient blend that was on the compound path is gone and the path is black. Gradient fill is still in my pallette and still assigned to another path in the file. Seems to be an issue with the compound path and the gradient fill. Any thoughts?

  • Gradient issue driving me crazy

    Hi Everyone,
I am having a huge issue with Photoshop CS5.5. The gradients and colors are acting crazy. When I bring in a image with a gradient it gets black spots all in the dark areas. Even when I use the default gradient selection this is what happens. When I bring in a picture that should have a white background it turns to black. Now apparently, when I save it out as a JPEG saves correctly without the black line or messed up gradients. So it seems to only be an issue when I am working in Photoshop, the gradients appear messed up. Any idea of what is wrong with my display?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks
Better example of a before and after pic:

Looks like a known problem with some AMD/ATI video drivers where pixels with red==0 are displayed as black in Photoshop. If so, a solution is to use Catalyst 13.2 beta 7 or Catalyst 12.8.

  • Gradient issues

    hi all,
can someone please help me with some issues i am having
whilst taking my first real foray into flex 2.
    my skeleton site is
    here and the source is
    there as well.
There are a couple of issues that i would like to get some
    direction on how to fix.
The gradient is repainted all the time as the different
components are loaded into the application
I can't find a way to fade the gradient out so the
intro/outro is not as smooth as i would like it to be
my scrollbars have disappeared even when i explicitly set
them to on or auto, when set to on they appear but do not function
Is there an easy way to achieve the look i am after. I am
trying to achieve this with minimal code replication. i.e., i don't
want to have alot of states and use fade transitions on those
    states.
    thanks to all,
    Maurice

You didn't tell us what colours you are blending between, you just mentioned blue and gray (which I assume is unwanted). If you are in CMYK mode you often get gray middle values. Imagine a blend between red (0,100,100,0) and cyan (100,0,0,0). The middle value would be a muddy gray (50,50,50,0). If you're design is for web or screen, use RGB mode (File > Document Color Mode > RGB). If for print, play with an RGB file to see what colours Illustrator makes in the middle and recreate that colour in CMYK as a middle stop in you CMYK gradient.

  • Ai CS6: Gradient Issues

Hi, I am rebuilding a raster logo in Illustrator and I'm having trouble getting my Gradient how I'd like it.
I have a radial gradient applied to an object, but I cannot figure out how to move the center of the gradient.
The gradient's center is aligned to the object's center. Can I move the gradient's origin, or possibly the objects center? I attached a screenshot for referance.
If I cannot adjust any obj/gradient centers, can I just create my gradient in PS and create a Clipping Mask? I would appreciate any advice or workarounds, maybe someone else has experienced this issue...

Thanks Scott! I can get back to work now, I really appreciate it!

  • Gradient Issue

    Hi Group,
I am having trouble with a gradient ending smoothly. My goal is to have it blend seamlessly into the background but whatever I try, the gradient end sharply, creating a ring (and some banding) versus a nice blend.
I've tried different modes; w/ and w/o dither. No luck. Even tried to blend using my BG color as my end color and alternatively tried making it100% transparent. Still no luck.
The image size is to scale (150" x 90") at 120dpi.
Any ideas as to what my problem is?

10/4 on keeping the dither checked.
I'm still having a hard time getting the gradient to blend smooth into the black. See my examples.  One image is shown at 6.25% and the other is at 100%.
The banding looks to be minimal but still there. However, as you can see, the gradient still shows up as a ring versus a blend. There's just not a smooth transition into the black background.

  • SampleImage() in 4-color gradient issue

    hi there
I am trying a technique for logo/element removal that I saw in a post from a couple years back, where a tracked, solid "patch" is placed over the unwanted element, and a 4 color gradient effect is applied to the patch, which then uses the sampleImage() method to grab local colors around the element.
I've gotten it working fine with the below code, except for one problem: when I parent my null (acting as a "color picker" position) to the original tracking info, the color no longer samples properly. Unparenting the null makes the sampling work fine, but then, I have to hand key the null, which is a pain and doesn't produce great results.
    myPoint = thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position;
    target = thisComp.layer("myAwesomeFootage.avi")
    target.sampleImage(target.fromWorld(myPoint), radius = [1, 1], postEffect = true, t = time)
Any tips on getting around this parenting problem?
    thanks!
    ML

You need to add an extra toWorld() layer space transform to convert the layer coordinates to comp/ world coordinates.

  • Gradient Issue iMac

Since a couple of weeks I am experiencing problems with my iMac Display. From the bottom to the middle of my screen I am seeing a gradient. I have been searching this community and via Google but can't really find what the problem is and if it is easily reparable.

  • Gradient issues in CMYK art

I have a file with a background colour of 25C, 35M, 85Y. I have made a stripe across it which I want to appear to fade from the background colour to white then back to background colour.
I have made a gradient with both ends matching the background colour and white in the middle. Onscreen it looks fine but when printed it goes from the background colour, through a pinkish shade to a yellowish shade to white, then back via the same colours. Am I asking too much of the software or is there some way I can sort this? Thanks

Each of your process colour components is fading to 0%. For most printers, there is a point at which a colour component is so faint it is effectively white. Let's say that happens at 5%. Let's further say that the gradient width (from 100% colour to white) is 2.5 inches. While each of your colours fades to 5%, the fact that the cyan component is the smallest value means each band of 5% increments is wider. This means Cyan drops to 0% for the last 1/2 inch, while the magenta and yellow components are still printing.
Try adding an interim stop just before white on each side with 4% of each colour.
It would also help to know how you are printing this. Are you proofing before going to press or is this the result on press? If proofing, what is your printer?
