SVG Invisible Lines

I have a series of SVG files that I want to play with and then convert to tif. When I open them in illustrator CS2 the strokes are huge and the rest of the file is tiny. I have already dealt with this by developing a neat script to fix all the scaling issues. My problem is now that some of the lines appear to be invisible but they are still present. Is there some way to force them visible? I could easily set all strokes to a certain value so that the lines would appear but I would rather not do that as different lines have different strokes. For now I have to go through each file and assign them strokes by hand. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Bruce, I don't use SVG and there for know very little about it but this opens the file for me…
#target illustrator
var svgFile = new File('~/Desktop/Testing.svg');
var docRef = app.open(svgFile, DocumentColorSpace.RGB);
with (docRef) {
// do stuff here

  • Invisible Lines showing on Export

    Hello,
    I have done quite a bit of research before posting this however if I missed an article about it feel free to link me. I have designed artwork that uses lots of colors and lines. Everything was pretty much designed with lines and shapes and then I used live paint to paint in certain sections. The artwork looks perfect when exported as a GIF and it appears fine in Illustrator. The problem happens when I export the document as a PDF. When I export it as a PDF, tiny white lines show up where I have invisible lines in Illustrator. These invisible lines were put there in the first place so I could have set regions for the live paint without them showing. I'm not sure why they are showing up when I export.
    I have tried multiple PDF settings and also tried flattening the layers and attempting to use Transparency Flattener Presets and export it as a PDF 1.3 but it is still greyed out in the export options when I try.
    I've attached a screenshot of the PDF after it has been exported to see the lines. You will notice black lines and thicker white lines (like the one at the top), these are intentional. the ones that are undesired is the thin one near the bottom whre you can see theres a break point in color and then multiple ones going up. Deleting these with live paint selection, expanding the art, using direct selection tool to delete all ruin the art flow or do not work.

    How it looks in illustrator:
    Thanks!

    They appear at any zoom.
    The last one is how it appears in Illustrator.
    These are going to be printed for cover art and more material but as of now I need a nice PDF to send out so it can be zoomed in.
    Interesting enough, I just checked on another computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader, and to your point they do not show up. So it appears they are only showing up when I view the PDF on my Mac using Preview. I also viewed it in Safari and Chrome and they showed up there as well.

  • SVG connector lines missing when opened in Illustrator CS5

    It has taken a while to jiggle SVG files saved in Inkscape and get them to open in Illustrator CS5. The files are basically a flow chart with some text and connecting lines between the rectangular boxes.
    Now we are getting  text and rectangular boxes to show when the SVG file is opened in Illustrator.  However, the paths (or connector lines) that show the flow between boxes are not shown.
    The file we are opening has about 10 layers and initially, it looked like just a blank document.  We had to click the top layer in the layer group "on", to see all the layers.  I guess the default is having the top layer "off".
    When opened in a browser, the  connector lines are showing up fine (although the arrow heads are turned sideways).
    Suggestions for getting connector lines to show up in Illustrator?
    Thanks!

    I suppose Inkscapes equivalent of AI's Expand function would be advisable. I'd have to revisit inkscape one of these days, but I believe they are using styles to descripe the conenctors, not genuine objects, hence nothing shows up in programs that don't understand the Inkscape lingo...

  • Malformed svg with Line Chart and empty results on ApEx 3.0

    Hello everyone,
    I'm experiencing problems here at our local ApEx installation:
    If I add a line chart using a query that returns an empty result, for example,
    SELECT 1 link, 2 label, 3 value FROM dual WHERE 1=2;
    I get a malformed svg, and Firefox (2.0) does not display the chart but an error message.
    I traced the error and found that the "no data found"-text to be displayed has a syntactical error:
    <svg width="600" height="400" viewBox="-5 -5 600 400" preserveAspectRatio="none"> <text class="nodatafound" x="40" y="20">No data found.</text></g></svg>
    The <g>-tag is closed although never opened. So the SVG-engine in Firefox behaves right by throwing an error message. However, internet explorer with the Adobe-plugins seems to ignore the tag and displays the correct svg image.
    If using a different type of chart (i've tested with the vertical bars), the error does not occur, neither does it when the result is not empty. I've noticed though, that
    the line chart seems to have problems if only one row is returned, it then
    displays an empty graph.
    Has anyone had the same kind of problem or is able to reproduce it, so I could file a bug report to Oracle?
    Any help is appreciated,
    Marc
    PS: I use ApEx 3.0.0.00.20 on Oracle 9i

    How can i debug ? Is anything helpful reported in the iAS logfiles?

  • My iPad screen appears to be unresponsive in an invisible line noticeable when using various apps.

    My iPad seems to have an unresponsive lnvisible line down the centre so when playing various apps such as words with friends you can't move a letter tile across that line. Occasionally the screen goes crazy like a hundred buttons are being pushed at the one time and it flicks between different screens despite the screen not being touched.

    Hm... That's very strange. Are the apps made by the same developer? If so, it may have something to do with that. There may be a fault in the programming.

  • Invisible lines showing and Disappearing in InDesign when Printed

    This problem does not happen in Adobe CS4 products and I recently switched to Adobe CS6 indesign and photoshop. I keep running to many problems (well its more than when I worked with CS4 products).
    I'm asking this because clients keep sending me horrible 72 dpi rasterized files. How do I deal with it if the program deals with this differently?
    I know this has been asked before I think but what if the files are coming from the client's side?
    The left circle is the original pdf file the client has sent me. The right circle is when I placed the file in Indesign CS6.
    Except that the logo is rasterized. The rest is vector.
    The left is rasterized, exported from indesign using 100 dpi. Usually my customers send in files that are 72 dpi. And then I have to manually create bleeds on them. The right is an exported pdf.

    What are you expecting? The original files you're getting are not suitable for print.
    that said, how are you outputting these files?

  • Logical diagram's relation lines invisible

    In my logical diagram and its subviews, a few of the lines (maybe 10%) representing relations aren't appearing between the entities.  The relations exist and appear to be defined just as the ones that do appear.  In "Show/Hide Relationships", they're flagged as selected, and I've tried clicking them off and on but it doesn't help.  In Preferences=>DataModeler=>Diagram=>Format, I've tried messing with the line widths to see if the change would affect the invisible lines, but no.  When engineered to a relational model, the corresponding foreign key's lines do appear.  If I create a subview from the entities that have relations between them, the lines don't appear on the subview either.  If I change the logical diagram's background color to red, the relations do appear in white (or maybe yellow), though in the narrowest width.  (That is, if I change the line width to fat and blank in Preferences, the 90% of the lines that usually appear are there in fat black, but the usually invisible ones are thin and white/yellow.)
    How can I get the missing lines to appear?  (SQLD 3.3.0.747)

    I guess all I needed to do was report it here in order to figure it out!
    How I fixed them:  Set diagram color to red so that they'd be visible.  Right-click the now-visible line to bring up a submenu.  Under Format, "Use default" was clicked off.  Click it on.
    How they managed to become un-default, I don't know, but they're better now.  I'll mark this answered but leave this here in case someone else stumbles into the same problem.

  • Line Chart does not display grid lines for x-axis (apex 2.0 / 3.0)

    Hello,
    is there an option to display x-axis grid lines?
    I set up an SVG chart (Line) but only IE displays y-axis grid-lines. I set the "Show Grid Line" - value to "enable"
    Does any body has an idea how I told apex to display x-axis grid lines also.
    Btw: only MS Internet Explorer displays the grid lines, I use firefos 1.5.0.10 -> no grid lines are displayed.
    The table how I create the chart are as follows
    select null link, label, value
    from
    SELECT 1 Value , 1 label FROM dual
    UNION
    SELECT 3 Value , 2 label FROM dual
    UNION
    SELECT 5 Value , 3 label FROM dual

    I changed this and put usage of UTL_FILE into a dynamic PL/SQL. The package will
    compile and work unless you want to create debug information. If yes, then it will raise an
    error message. So, you don't need UTL_FILE execution priviledge from your DBA.
    I opened the package and you may modify it the way that you don't need any public
    synonyms and no UTL_FILE to run it.
    There are so many questions in this forum related to "What is my DBA going to say?" or
    "How is he going to react?". Even for some minor issues. I have myself also seen some
    of similar situations and the only thing I can sey is:
    You got to use that powerfull tool Oracle Database instead of hiding it away from your
    users and developers. Learn how to control it instead of prohibiting access to it! Otherwise,
    it's just a waste of money.

  • Formatting a combined dual chart - which svg commands necessary?

    Hello all,
    I have a combined dual chart (two columns and one line) as shown in the picture below. I'd like to format the following things:
    - color of columns (costs in one color and Incoming Order List in a different)
    - color of outer ticks of both y-axis
    - hiding the minor gridline of y-axis
    I changed both y-axis colors with this svg-css lines:
    .chart-style-1 g.v-m-yAxis g.viz-axis-body.v-body path.v-fixed-valueaxisline {stroke: #dbcbcb;}
    .chart-style-1 g.v-m-yAxis2 g.viz-axis-body.v-body path.v-fixed-valueaxisline {stroke: #dbcbcb;}
    For the outer tick lines I tried this - but it didn't work:
    .chart-style-1 g.v-m-yAxis g.viz-axis-body.v-body line.v-fixed-valueaxisline {stroke: #dbcbcb;}
    I also tried to hide the minor gridline with this command (also no impact):
    .chart-style-1 g.v-m-yAxis g.viz-axis-body.v-body line.v-gridline {stroke-width: 0;}
    The color configuration of a dual chart is very limited. You can only set colors for 2 series and Design Studio colors the y-axis as well. There is no color configuration for the individual measures anymore.
    Does anyone has an idea of how the SVG commands in CSS has to be for changing the colors of columns and outer ticks and hide the minor gridline?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,
    After using the following CSS:
    /* Y-AXIS: change color for the side Y-AXIS lines */
    .chart-style-1 g.v-m-yAxis g.viz-axis-body.v-body path.v-fixed-valueaxisline {stroke: pink;}

  • Magic wand tool that will select broken-line shapes?

    I'm an illustrator... working in both digital & real artwork.
    I work mostly in Photoshop CS, but I have been searching for a solution to a digital problem that I can't quite seem to find using either Photoshop or Illustrator.
    What I wish to do is scan a pencil drawing and then create selected shapes in a quick and easy method using a magic wand tool.
    But it needs to be a magic wand tool that will select an area drawn from a series of broken lines. Photoshop will only select shapes that are 100% intact, so I wind up having to spend lots of time searching to repair broken lines before Photoshop selects just that one area.
    I KNOW that such a program exists... because I recall there used to be such a program. It was a free dowloaded program that I got once, way back around 1998. I think it came from Australia... and it was a basic digital paint program of some sort. I can't recall the name.
    It allowed one to quickly click and select an area from within a shape drawn with broken line segments...
    Does anyone know of any program (hopefully for Mac) that allow this sort of selection?
    This would save me hours of frustration. I can't believe Adobe hasn't come up with something like this already.
    Thanks...

    I doubt that I will get to trying the proposed method on that sample image this weekend. I can make a few quick comments, however.
    Like numerous Photoshop tools, the success of Illustrator tools like Live Trace and Live Paint are very image dependent and some experience helps. Here are some comment on the three steps needed.
    First, the Live Trace step must be done well. There are a boat load of parameters for this process. For the subject image my guess would be to start with a preset and the one I would choose would be comic art.
    Secondly, once you make a live paint group you have to have automatic gap detection checked (turned on) and you choice of predefined or custom gap sizes specified. You will then see where the gaps are automatically found and fixed and the gap options dialog box will tell you how many have been found. If you like what you see you can just start painting. Usually, however it is an iterative process of painting some of the areas and then resetting the gap detection and painting again. At any point you can automatically close the paths (but you cannot go back), change the settings to auto detect even larger gaps and try again.
    Third is the manual phase. If lucky you will have none of this. On the subject image, however, I can see that some of this is required. To preserve the artistic content of the original one draws a line in the very big gaps having no stroke or fill (invisible line)and then you use the live paint bucket. While the above sounds like a lot of work, it can go very quickly with many drawings.
    JN
    >That's why I think Adobe ought to work on designing a 'smart magic wand tool'... that could select imperfectly closed shapes.
    The Live Paint tool in Illustrator does this. It automatically detects gaps and lets you paint as if they were not there.

  • Line on the left side of my screen

    Hi, i have a 2.4ghz macbook white, it fell from me recently but before that i noticed an almost invisible line on the left side of my screen, it wasnt broken or anything, after it fell the line became more visible, it turned into green and sometimes two lines, but now it is a thick white line that can cover 1 letter...
    i ran the hardware test and an error occurred 4SNS/1/40000000 TCOD-100.125
    Thanks for your help

    I had line(s) on my screen that would not go away and I only found one solution. Well, they would go away when I tried the Genius Bar (the only bar I hang out in these days). Anyhow, the lines were vertical 80%-90% of the time no matter what I was doing. Mostly one, sometimes 2, rarely 3. They even faded in and out when I was just sitting there! I took it to the apple store once and I couldn't show it to them. I took it home to see if it could get worse. Fearing it will eventually just fail as soona s my wrranty expires in teh end fo Feb, I took it in again. They are going to replace the logic board, but they have to order it then replace it; which takes a couple of weeks at least.
    So, the only solution was to replace the board. Oh, and if you can't prove it to them because the iMac seems to know the "doctor's office", just take a photo of the screen problem and take it in. That will be evidence enough.
    Applecare is great!

  • In List View, how can I move an item from within a subfolder up to the top level of the window's parent folder?

    Up 'til now, from System 7.1 to Tiger—I skipped Leopard—you simply dragged the item onto the folder window's titlebar (since that folder's icon was, naturally, not in its own window) and BINGO! there it was, at the top level. Nothing I can think to do in Snow Leopard seems to work.

    Thanks. Most definitely does, although when experimenting I found the left window edge was closer, and 'scrubbing' the item just out of the window and back in seemed to fit the underlying file and folder metaphor better to my mind than just dropping it any old where in the window.
    And 'any old where', at any old speed doesn't always bring up the oh-so-subtle blue border that says, "I get it, you wanna add something to this window, hit me." That's The Clue. There seems to be an invisible line you hafta cross, and some kind of deliberate pace you hafta hit. Too fast and SL doesn't seem to always take it seriously. But that left edge scrub can be quite fast.
    Sorry about the over hasty denial, I was checking my facts and editting to say you were right when the board was shut for some sort of maintenance, and my bad became permanent. Please forgive.

  • How do I insert a blank page if my group ends on an odd-numbered page

    I have a report that prints out information for 10 regions. We print this report double-sided and put it into a 3-ring binder with 10 divider tabs, one for each region. If the last page for a particular region is an even-numbered page, then everything is OK since the next region begins on an odd-numbered page (the right-hand side of the open 3-ring binder). However, if the last page is an odd-numbered page, this causes the next region to begin on what would be the left-hand side of the open 3-ring binder which is not acceptable. I have considered printing each of the 10 regions separately (a seemingly easy solution, but our pages are required to be numbered consecutively through the regions - and are also of the type Page &Page of &Total_Pages).
    How do I create a BLANK PAGE at the end of a region if it ends on an odd-numbered page?
    I am using reports version 6i with 9i as my backend database. It just occurred to me that occasionally in printed material, one sees "This page intentionally left blank", usually on the last page of a chapter to permit the following chapter to begin on the right-hand side. If anyone has created a solution to get this "..intentionally left blank" page to print, this seems to be a close fit to what I am trying to do.

    I am also trying to do this same thing.
    I have followed the text as it is stated in
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/faq9i.htm#43
    but it still does not work.
    My invisible line prints on every other page, however
    my repeating frame prints on every page with no page breaks.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vicki

  • What size should my background layer image be for web?

    I'm doing a logo design for someone I know and he wants it placed ontop of a steel texture background. I've sourced out a good quality image but despite my diligence in trying to understand how image size and resolution works, I can't seem to grasp what I need to do with it. I've watched countless videos, but it must be a problem with the ol' brain in the head I have.
    This is most likely (at least for now) just for web. My main focus is just getting this right so that it looks crisp and sharp on screen.
    The image I have is 1024 x 1384 pixels 72dpi. So 14.2 inches wide by 19.2 inches high.
    Do I need to change this at all? I will be cropping the image, but I'm worried that I will make it too small and therefore it will need to be enlarged and I might encounter some blurring.
    Should I enlarge it? I heard this isn't the most ideal thing.
    72dpi is as high as the resolution needs to be for screen images, but is there any advantage in bumping that up? Why couldn't I just make it 300dpi for the heck of it?
    Do I need to pay attention to inches, or is that just good guide for when you are printing something?
    I'm honestly just trying to get my head around it all so that in the future I don't have to spend so much time figuring out what I need to do. Everything I read and any help is greatly appreciated.

    Bayne86 wrote:
    Ok be prepared for a dumb question...
    If you're telling me to forget dpi/ppi when working with screens, how come you then say to think in terms of pixels for screens and to double the resolution for retina screens? I'm obviously a bit confused about the terminology here..
    With screen based design work, design with pixels in mind. So if you design for a website that is 1140px in width, then that is your base target width. With retina screens the screen resolution is effectively doubled up, but the relative size of elements show on such a screen is ideally the same as if you would be working on a screen with half the resolution.
    Example iPad:
    old iPad: 1024x768px.
    new iPad retina: twice that: 2048*1536.
    Your logo would be rendered at the same size on both screens. Let's say at 800X400 on the older screen. Because the retina screen behaves like a 1024x768 screen in rendering all elements, but effectively doubles the available resolution, you would have to provide an ipad developer with a 1600x800 version, which can be used for both screens, and makes sure that it looks razor sharp on the retina screen.
    No ppi. No dpi. Think in pixels only. With 4k screens around the corner this will become even more harrowing. That is why we are currently seeing the return of true vector graphics for screen and interface development. To complicate matters, since this is a relatively new development a lot of information on the web is completely outdated. I would not trust most info that is much older than two years, and double check even that. Check out Apple's icon and graphic creation guide for more ideas:
    http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/I consImages/IconsImages.html
    Now, things become even more confusing once you decide the graphics have to be prepared for a fluid and/or responsive designed web page or application. That background graphic you chose will not work well at all on a web page background, because it does not seamlessly repeat. That means it will be automatically scaled up and down to cover the entire browser window frame. Using an ultra-high resoluton background image just will not do: it eats up video memory for breakfast, is slow on certain devices, and may take ages to download. For these reasons, and many more, you need to be efficient and clever.
    So I would choose a seamless repeating metal background with enough detail that does not stand out too much (otherwise it would be noticed too much as to repeat). Another trick is to provide a lower resolution alpha transparent png mask to add a soft lighting effect to the metal background, and perhaps the logo. That png mask could then be scaled up because you would not notice the low resolution at all - better, the mask would become fuzzier, which does not matter for a soft lighting mask! Even a 512x512 mask or lower would work very well.
    That logo of yours (second image) will NOT render as a vector at all. It must be saved as a bitmap.
    The logo in the last image could work as an SVG, and become completely scalable on a web page or in an application (depending on the support for SVGs)
    Bottom line is that, for web page development and for app development, seperate layered versions will be required for the highest quality and most flexible result. A merged version will probably be quite useless. At least, it would be for me as a website/app developer and UX designer. Ideally I would like access to the Photoshop file, but I will settle for high resolution png files for each element. And if vector files can be send to me as SVG files: YES PLEASE!
    So the question remains: what are the client's output requirements? Is this for a website? What are the target platforms? And so on. Also remember that most people probably would not notice the difference between a "normal" 1024x768 image and a retina version for a background like yours, because the focus would be on the logo. So another approach is to provide a lower resolution (smaller file sized!) background image, and a higher resolution logo image that takes advantage of retina resolutions. Our brains cannot differentiate a lot of detail in darks. Take advantage of this.
    Hope this helps a bit!
