SVG Plug-in detection
In a portion of our XSQL application, we display certain results as sets of numbers, and alternatively in bar-graph format using SVG.
We would like our XSL to be able to detect whether the user has the SVG plug-in installed, specifically for IE 5+, so that we can format the screen to display either the graph or a link to download the plug-in
null
You might check the Adove SVG site for tips on this http://www.adobe.com/svg
I'm not aware of any server-side detection techniques unfortunately.

I check my plug-is for updates once a week, yet as of today, despite the fact that my plug-ins are all still there in Tools, plug-ins, after I click on the find updates button, I get the usual screen that tells me Firefox is checking for updates to my plug-ins, but then I get the message saying 'No plug-ins detected.' This has never happened before and it means I can't check for updates to my plug-ins.
There is a fault with the plugin check service, Mozilla are looking into it.

SVG plug-in and MOzilla Firefox
Hi,
Has anyone installed SVG plug-in in firefox? I downloaded SVG but after i ran installation successfully, only IE has it, firefox seems know nothing about SVG plug-in. How about Netscape?
Any idea?
Thanks.I dare say, that SVG will be built in to Firefox version 1.1
I think it will be release well before the end of the year.
It should make live a lot easer for those who advocate Firefox, particular in the context of HTML DB apps that contain SVG graphical items. -
I just upgraded to 8.1 and now I keep getting this error, "Invalid Plug In Detected". What does this mean and is there any thing I can do to fix this?
You could just go to the plug-in folder and move plug ins, one at a time to another location so that Acrobat will not find them. You could also start be moving all plug ins to another location and doing the reverse of putting them back. I am not sure if plug ins are registered or not, that might be the only issue with my suggestion.
Actually, if you have a date after which you had problems start, you might just concentrate on the plug ins listed after that date. -
Adobe Reader Plug-in - Detect Events in Javascript?
Hello,
Does the plug-in provide events that Javascript can handle? I have code that will trigger the printing to starting showing the print dialog via javascript. I want to know when the user got rid of the dialogbox by either printing or canceling. I don't necessarily need to know which button they pressed but that would be ok too. If it's possible, can you give me a sample code of how I can do that?
I am using IE as the browser.
Thank you for time...
NathanThe default zoom for the plugin should be the same as for the standalone Reader. Is it not?

Problem Launching Java Applet with Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Hello out there:
I recently installed j2re-1.4.2_01 on my home computer but have been unable to access Web sites emmploying JAva applets. The following is an email exchange with Jeff Hall of Lowell Observatory, manager of an educational site hosted by Lowell, trying to resolve my problem. The messages are better understood if read in reverse order.
I'm hoping that someone will recognize the source of my problem and can recommmend a solution. I would appreciate any help offered.
Thanks,
Mike Coucke
Hi Jeff:
Well, I guess the problem lies with me somewhere. Here's my answer/status to your questions/suggestions:
1) I'm using MS Windows Me version 4.90.3000
2) I do have the directory C:\Windows\.jpi_cache\jar\, but the only thing in it is an empty folder labeled "1.0". The file LP.jar does not exist anywhere on my hard drive.
3) I tried several game sites that utilized Java applets and got the same results: the Java cup in the upper left corner followed a few seconds later by the red "X". So, evidently the problem is somewhere on my end.
I'm going to post our email exchanges in a Java Users Forum managed by Sun to see if anyone out there can solve my problem. However, if you have any more suggestions, I'll be glad to try them.
Thanks for the help.

Mike,
Rats! What version of Windows are you using? It's a little strange to
see the user directory set to C:\Windows; if you're using XP, I'd expect
it to be something like C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Coucke. In any
event, the output that is of concern is these two lines:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class
Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: proxy
It looks like your browser is not finding our server's IP when it comes
time to download the necessary Java code.
LPRemote.class is the fundamental code that runs LOPARC, and your
browser should be downloading it automatically when you click connect.
LPRemote.class is stored along with a bunch of other classes in a file
called "LP.jar" that you download from our server. So, if you go to C:
in Windows Explorer and do a file search for LP.jar, you should find it.
On my machine, it's stored in a directory called ".jpi_cache\jar\" in my
user home directory. Let me know if you have this file, or the
jpi-cache directory.
One other thing you might try is going to a different site that you know
uses Java applets -- I think some of the online game rooms at Yahoo use
Java. See if other sites that use Java load correctly. Then we'll know
if it's our server specifically, or a more general problem on your end.

Hello Jeff:
I still have the Java "blues". I followed your instructions, but am still unable to launch a LOPARC session. After an initial failure, I uninstalled all three Java versions I had (1.4.0, 1.4.1, 1.4.2), then reinstalled 1.4.2_01 from the Sun website.
Now, when I try to launch LOPARC, I initially get a blank window with the Java cup in the upper left corner. After about 20 seconds, the cup changes to a red "X". During those 20 seconds, the following appear in the IE message bar at the bottom of the window: "Applet LPRemote notinited" (their spelling) which changes to "Loading Java Applet Failed..." when the red "X" appears.
Following is a copy of the log from my Java Console during all of this:

Subject: RE: Registration with Lowell Education Online
Hi Mike,
Try it now. I think this problem has arisen because Sun just
released a new version of the Plug-in (1.4.2), and when we released the
public beta of LOPARC, only one relevant version (1.4.0) was available
and the LOPARC code was written to look for that by default. I have
just recoded the relevant routines so they should now cause your browser
to simply pick up the latest 1.4 version of the Plug-in you have
installed, whatever it is. I "broke" Java on my machine to replicate
your problem, and the code I inserted today did fix it. Hopefully it
will have the same effect for you. I am running IE 6 and plugin
1.4.2_01 (as accessed via Tools->Sun Java Console).
One broader problem: some (non-LOPARC-specific) users on the Sun
forums have reported the "JRE collision" you are seeing when multiple
versions of the Plug-in are installed on the same machine. So if the
fix I made to our code doesn't work, one option would be to uninstall
all Java components from your computer and do a fresh install of the
latest runtime environment.
Let me know how/if this works. Thanks for the feedback and for your
patience.
Best regards,
Jeff Hall

Hello Jeff:
So far, I have been unable to launch a LOPARC session. I repeatedly
get the following error message:
"Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class"
My browser is MS Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106 Initially I was
using Java Plug-In version 1.4.1 and received the error message. I went
to the Sun website and downloaded/installed Java Plug-In version 1.4.2
and still get the message.
Before I try to launch LOPARC, I can select Tools->Sun Java Console from
IE's pull down menu to check my Java Plug-In version. When I try to
launch LOPARC, I get the following message:
"Applet(s) in this HTML page requires a version of Java different from
the one the browser is currently using. In order to run the applet(s)
in this HTML page, a new browser session is required, press 'Yes' to
start a new browser session." If I select 'No', I get the following
message: "Java Plug-in detected JRE collission"
If I select 'Yes', a new browser window opens and then I get the first
message above.
Can you help?

Dear Michael Coucke:
Thank you for registering with Lowell Observatory's online education
site. We hope you enjoy using it and visit regularly as we continue to
expand its features and capabilities. This is a one-time welcoming
email.
For your records, your user ID is xxxxx, and your password is #########.
You'll need to supply these each time you log in.
This site gives you access to research-grade equipment including a 16"
telescope, CCD detector, and image processing software. Our online
archive of data is now available 24/7. The telescope will be opening to
our onsite users in May, and on select nights to the Internet at large
in June.
We have designed this site so you don't need a huge monitor or a
supercomputer to use it. All pages are viewable on screens running at
800x600 resolution or higher. To use LOPARC, you'll need a Java-enabled
browser with the Java 1.4 plug-in installed. If you don't have the
plug-in, you'll be prompted to download it the first time you attempt to
connect. This is an admittedly large (9 MB) but one-time-only download.
This site works correctly under Internet Explorer version 5 or higher.
If you use Netscape, you must be running version 6 or higher, and
display or applet behavior anomalies may occur.
If at any time you can't connect to our server, simply try again later.
We do experience several power outages each year, particularly during
Flagstaff's summer thunderstorm season. Our server is fully protected
and backed up, and can be quickly brought back on line, but any active
user sessions will be lost. Thanks for your patience during these
inevitable downtimes.
Your questions, comments, suggestions, and bug reports about this site
are always welcome. On behalf of the LOPARC development team, thanks
for signing up!

I see this in your logs:
Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Using JRE version 1.4.2_01 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\WINDOWS

I just helped my Dad set up his computer with a new
cable modem, and had the situation where we couldn't
access any secure Web sites. The cable folks had us
disable the proxy. It looks like the error message is
saying it can't find your proxy server, and the logs
you posted say that you've decided to configure your
proxy manually, rather than using the settings from
IE (which is how mine is set up in the plugin
control panel.)
Could that be the problem?

Next-generation plug-in 1.6 : ClassNotFoundException and not caching JARs
Hi,
Since the introduction of the next-generation plug-in in Java 1.6.0_10, the applet I have used and developed for many years don't load anymore.
The situation is this : the Jars of this applet are embedded in a Lotus Notes database as Java resources, in order to be used in a particular form in my application. Note that this application is accessed via a Web browser through a Domino server and that this application requires a user authentication. If I try to open the form containing the applet while using a plug-in 1.6.0_10 or newer, with default parameters (cache and next-generation plug-in activated), here is the exceptions I get (here with plug-in 1.6.0_20) :

... 7 more
Exception : java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: mycompany.tools.PlannerBy reading a lot forums I found that a lot (really a lot) of people were experiencing the exact same issue, regardless of the type of server they used to host their applet. And unfortunately, only few answers were relevant to help me understand why I got this error...
By looking deeper in the documentation, I have found this [Applet Developer's guide|http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/applet/applet_dev_guide.html]. Here, it is written that one of the enhancement of the next-generation plug-in is that : "+... The JVM running the applet is isolated from the web browser at the operating system level. If something should go wrong while running the applet, or if an uncooperative applet refuses to shut down, the new Java Plug-in detects and handles the error condition gracefully; the Web browser is unaffected+".
I am not quite sure of what it really means, but I have started to think that my problem could be that, by running in a separate process than the one of the Web browser, loading the Jars will require an authentication on my server. To verify this hypothesis, I have changed the codebase of my applet, so the Jars are downloaded from another server where no user authentication is required. The good news is that my applet can now find the Jars and run as expected. The bad news is that none of the Jars are placed in the cache, which means that the Jars have to be downloaded each time I start a new session to work with my applet.
I have also tried to disable the "Use the next-generation plug-in" option in the Java control panel. In this case, everything is fine, too, and even the Jars are stored in the cache. The interesting thing is that afterwards, by enabling the "Use the next-generation plug-in" option again, the applet will load and run like a charm... because the Jars are in the cache and the class loader can find them! (I suspect that this case has been experienced by several people, answering on forum posts that they cannot reproduce the issue.)
Anyway, even if there is some workarounds to ensure it is possible to work with the latest versions of the plug-in, having to change the default options is not always easy or possible, depending of the environment. This applet that I am talking about is used by a lot of our customers and all have their internal policies and requirements regarding the Java configuration. If for some of them it will be possible to use a workaround, for others it will not. And this is a major problem to me.
As I said, a lot of people have experienced this issue. I hope that someone having a better understanding on how this next-generation plug-in works, will have a solution, or at least, will be able to explain what is wrong in this approach and if my suggestion regarding an authentication issue for the class loader make sense.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
PhilippeHi,
I was wrong in my approach.
My applet was implemented using the "<object>" tag and it seems that it was not the best way to address compatibility issues across all versions of the plug-in and all browsers.
So, I have finally found what I was looking for in this "[Java Rich Internet Applications Development and Deployment|http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/index.html]" guide. In this guide, it is recommended to use the "[Deployment Toolkit|http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/deployment_advice.html#deplToolkit]", based on a Javascript library containing everything needed to deploy your application as an applet or a Java Web Start application.
My application, deployed as an applet, now works like a charm.
I hope pointing on this Deployment Toolkit will also help others...

Invalid Plug In causes Adobe to Close
I have used Adobe 7.* and prior for years. I down loaded the latest version of Adobe, I think 8.1.2, and am unable to open PDF files with it.
I get the following message:
"An invalid plug in was detected. Adobe Reader will close.. I hit OK. Then I get another message (no error number) which says:
"A0d.exe" seems to be the file menu which says:
"The instruction at 0x2d830cbc references memory at 0X00000008 The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate"
So I close it and am unable to read the PDF attachment.
Pleas advise.
JIMHI! You guy have solved the exact problem I'm having with Adobe Reader 8.1.2. I have installed and uninstalled 8.1 and 8.1.2 because of "Invalid plug-in detected" and then the same error message 00000008 click to terminate.
Now, HOW CAN I GET ADOBE READER 7.0.9 BACK AND REINSTALL IT.
Thanks for your help. Eileen -
The new google streetview (which does not use Flash) is unusable and renders very slow starting with pixelated images that progressively build. The slowness is not present in FF30.0 on Windows.
It seems to be an issue in Linux Mint as well: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=180542
It seems to be quite common on the google map forums: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/rWUCllpDDSE
There seems to be bug open already: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697443
But why does FF30.0 on windows work O.K but not FF31.2.0 on Linux?

External Speakers stopped working on Imac
External speakers stopped working. Verified speakers operating with Iphone. Checked that speakers plugged in correctly. Tried usual power cycling step. External speakers do not show up in sound preferences. Anyone with any advice?
Thanks,If you unplug the speakers to the internal speakers work OK? If not try resetting the system PRAM see Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If they still don't work or if the internal works OK then look into the speaker plug. Do you see a red light? There is a switch inside the plug that detects the presents of a jack and sometimes it gets stuck or breaks entirely.
You could try gently using a non-conductive device (a toothpick is good) probing inside the plug to see if you can free the switch. Of course this could be harmful if done incorrectly. If the system is still under warranty you might want to take it to have it looked at.

Passing MSI properties causes itunessetup to fail
Trying to install latest iTunes 11.0.2.26
Installing on Windows 7 x86 SP1 all updates applied.
Here is the behavior I've noticed.
If trying to run iTunesSetup.exe via command line and you pass any MSI PROPERTY arguments to the setup it will fail.
It always fails at the exact same spot which is the Apple Mobile Device Service. It will fail to start with error code 1920. This happens regardless if I am running as an Administrator account, or even logged in as the actual local administrator. I have confirmed the problem still happens even when trying to call the EXE from an elevated command prompt. UAC is also already disabled.
The following command will work if you do not pass PROPERTY elements to the installer.
iTunesSetup.exe /q
However if you attempt to use the following command the install will fail.
iTunesSetup.exe /qb DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS=0
Below is a result of running logging during the install using argument
/l*v! log.txt

i downloaded the beta 11.6 installer from the labs page since 11.5 won't work for me most if the time. i use mozzila and watch vids from e-mail in outlook. after the download i could watch vids until a pause happened from buffering and then the vid would freeze. i found also that flash player would not work some of the time. also the debuger would not load and gave me this (flashplayer11-6_debug_win_pi.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read) the beta standalone would only load 24%. i have been having flash player problems for months with 11.5. i have tryed the safe mode fix. deleting all flash from the registry and reloading. and when it does work it's gone again with a new boot. if there is something in the cpu that's missing i don't know what it is. any suggestions?
hi jeromie, i,m glad for your reply. i ran the uninstall from my download list; restarted, ran uninstall again; restarted; ran install plur from download list. opened outlook and clicked on hyper link Click Here to Watch Video. sorry, i thought this would copy the link in full.
anyway the video page opens and i get this: microsoft windows box stating (adobe flash player 11.6 r602 has stopped working). when i hit close program at the bottom of the box i get popup at the bottom stating (adobe flash player 11.6 r602 was closed) to help protect your computer, date execution prevention has closed adobe. while writing this up the video opened up so i played it. i opened another and the same thing happened. when the video was over i got a notice that (plugin container for firefox has stopped working). to answer some of your questions.
1. I am using free comodo firewall; free avg 2013; free superantispyware; microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes anti-malware.

Can anybody explain why a Line chart comprising of more than one Chart Series does not work when building the SQL constructed in PL/SQL ?
The second series is identical apart from the snapshot_ids.
I need to construct like this due to another problem with database links.
I''ve tried to trace this but nothing much is produced, maybe because of the SVG plug-in?
DECLARE q varchar2(1000);
BEGIN
q:='SELECT Snap_Time, Snap_TimeXX, Value
FROM (
SELECT TO_CHAR(S2.SNAP_TIME,''D'') Snap_Time,
TO_CHAR(S2.SNAP_TIME,''D'') Snap_TimeXX,
SUM(S.value) Value
FROM STATS$SYSSTAT S,
STATS$SNAPSHOT S2
WHERE S.SNAP_ID=S2.SNAP_ID
AND S.SNAP_ID between 832 and 859
AND S.INSTANCE_NUMBER=1
AND S.NAME=''execute count''
group by TO_CHAR(S2.SNAP_TIME,''D''))';
RETURN q;
END;Yes it was that problem, but I still have an issue:
How do I set the Flash Chart to use a PL/SQL function in the first place ?
When I try to enter:
"return package.function;" in the Create Region Wizard, I get the following error:
Failed to parse SQL query:
return EXPERT.getFullListSQLByNC
ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
