We have an issue referring to that http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/ST-422 . It was raised in SMP, but its roots are in OSMF.
This issue appears on RTMP only, not in HDS.

Hello!
1) Given the string plugin is loaded from (file:///C:/alex/PlayerCDN/lib/PlugIN_junio.swf) application loads it from file system that "involves complex security" (our app can't load local files - we don't need it but nevertheless).
You may want to try directing your Flex builder run configuration to use http://localhost/yourappwrapper.html as a "URL or path to launch" parameter.
Try to set full path to plugin also (including host).
2) As I can see, you don't have
Security.allowDomain('*');
in your plugin constructor.
Although it is being loaded from the same host - do try to insert it

Better UI for Unit Tests

I've been doing a lot of unit tests lately. Right now I'm working on a code converter Air app and I'm constantly creating unit tests for bugs I'm finding and running them, and debugging them when they don't work. When I debug, it's easiest to isolate the runner to run only one test. I know I can do that by editing the source file and typing in the test name in the core.run call. However, I can't help by think a better UI is needed for doing this form for TestDriven Development.
Basically, what I think would be perfect, is to have the UI, not run the tests initially. It should provide you with a list of tests with checkboxes. Then give you the opportunity to select which ones you want to run, and then run them. It should also have the ability to re-run a test. I realize that for any code changes to take affect you would need to re-run the entire app, but a lot of times, I find myself running the same test over and over and stepping through the code with the debugger in order to figure out what's going on. Then I eventually change the code.
Also, the new UI should persist the last set of selected tests, and maybe have a way to store previous selections. That would make it perfect for how I use it.
Does anyone agree or disagree with this? Has someone done this already?
BTW, the reason I'm using the stand alone runner and not the one in Flash Builder 4 is because I've run into some bugs with the FlexUnit shipped with Flash Builder 4 and there doesn't seem to be a way to get the latest FlexUnit 4.1 to work properly with Flash Builder 4. There seems to be a way to do it with Flash Builder 4.5, but I don't have that version.

But DynamicStream.as is part of the code base and the does get executed.   Jody, which version of DynamicStream.as is more current?   The one that ships with FMS 3.5 or the one in tools?
Can anyone answer my original question (I think) which is: should I be able to switch source = http://dynamicStream1.smil -> source = http://dynamicStream2.smil and back and forth etc. It seems to work.    Are there any caveats? I am not switching back and forth between flv-s and smil-s
It turns out that there are a couple of lines of code in NCManger.as::bitrateMatch() which is concatenating the streamName and this results in 404 on the FMS side.   I'm not sure what this is supposed to do or if this is just a bug, but the upshot was that I could not specify source = http://dynamicStream.smil on a remote server. The uncanny part of this issue is if I serve the same smil locally, referencing remote remote smil and media, it works. Maybe this has something to do with the bit rate.    Bottom line is that this cost me 3 days, becuase I was under the incorrect impression that you could not reference *.smil directly and I blindly followed the handrail provided by the the FMS videoPlayer sample. Shame on me for trying to leverage working code shipped with a production version.

The answer is no. Stream reconnect is all about trying to reconnect in the event of a dropped network connection. For the IdleTimeOut scenario, listen for the MediaErrorEvent.MEDIA_ERROR event on the MediaPlayer and check for an error of MediaErrorCodes.NETCONNECTION_TIMEOUT. You can handle that however you wish in your player.

What will happen if I modify the reconnect Code in the OSMF Netloader Class as recommended and then load multiple third party OSMF plugins,
which may have included the origin OSMF version of the Netloader class.
Which one will be used at runtime?

For those who would have the same problem, here is how I could eventually fix it.
Since the Flex Test Drive is sometimes out of sync with flash builder 4, I recreated a project using other help pages on Adobe site :
Entry point :

As suggested, I used the New Project wizard to create a new project, with :
Application server type : J2EE
Check the radio button "Use remote object access service : BlazeDS"
Then, as indicated in following pages (section "Accessing BlazeDS")... :

...I selected the "Data / Connect to Data/Services..." menu option, which started the Data/service connection wizard.
There, I selected a BlazeDS (and not Web Services) service type, and everything went fine.
Suggestion to adobe staff : maybe it would be useful to update the Flex Test Drive to reflect Flash Builder 4 ?

Hi.
So far I have extended the VideoElement to support a extended NetStreamLoadTrait as you suggested.
My code is the following:

                    netStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
            else if (newState == LoadState.UNINITIALIZED)
                netStream = null;
        private function onNetStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void
            if (netStream.bytesTotal > 0)
                dispatchEvent
                    ( new LoadEvent
                        ( LoadEvent.BYTES_TOTAL_CHANGE
                        , false
                         , false
                        , null
                        , netStream.bytesTotal
                netStream.removeEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
But no matter what I change, always a new Extended VideoElement is created, the playhead backs to 0.
Can you explain more how you would modify the NetStreamLoadTrait or LoadTrait to work together with the seek?

What you are missing is the fact that you get the trait from the MediaElement you just created with your MediaFactory.
You should also be extending the DefaultMediaFactory since it has built in MediaFactoryItems.

var mediaElement:MediaElement = createMediaElement(videoResource: URLResource); //your resource
var dynamicStreamTrait:DynamicStreamTrait = mediaElement.getTrait(MediaTraitType.DYNAMIC_STREAM) as DynamicStreamTrait;
//work with the trait
dynamicStreamTrait.autoSwitch = false;
dynamicStreamTrait.switchTo(yourBitrateIndex);
