Svrmgrl segmentation fault!

Hi everyone.
I installed Oracle 8.0.5.1 Enterprise Edition on a RedHat 6.0 box
with 2 Pentium III processors. The installation went smoothly but
when I ran the svrmgrl the familiar message "segmentation fault
(core dumped)" appears. The funny thing is that I have installed
the same product on a SuSE 6.1 with a Pentium II 233Mhz and it
runs OK.
Any suggestions?

I also experienced the same problem with RedHat 6.0 but I also
noticed that I have untarred everything under /home/oracle in
which there is a bin directory under which svrmgrl works and I
can start and shutdown, run sql plus etc... It seems to be a
problem with the re-linking.

    Hi,
    Suese 6.1 uses glibc 2.07, not glibc2.1 !!!
That does not work - go and order Suse 6.2 which is out August
9th. This will probably solve your segfaults.
It is really a mess with those (g) libc issues on Linux - reminds
    me of using NT...

  • Svrmgrl gives segmentation fault

I recently upgraded from redhat 5.2 to redhat 6.0. A default
intall of oracle errored out when it started creating the
database objects. I did I a reinstall with out creating db
objects and now when ever I try sqlplus or server manager I get
a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error. I had oracle
running on my old box. Does this have to do with the 2.2.5
    kernel?

Not with kernel but with glibc 2.1 - see thread "Oracle8 and
    Redhat 6.0"

  • Segmentation fault in SQL*Plus

Late yesterday afternoon, I tried to query a table in my
database and received a segmentation fault(core dumped). I
receive the segmentation fault only when trying to query 4
tables (out of a total of about 20) and only in SQL*Plus. If I
query from svrmgrl or through an ODBC connection, I have no
problems. I tried reinstallng SQL*Plus, but that did not help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Segmentation Fault... Glibc 2.0 libs

I have a problem when I execute the glibcpatch on my linux box, it takes a few file and replace it with others but the problem is that it doesn't work properly, the file are not replace, they are still in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory... With the .pre_glibc_patch extension, after executing the patch, nothing works, the sqlplus, svrmgrl, sqlldr, etc... the command are not even in the bin directory the names are not correct so I can't call them, and even if I do, they are segment faulting! The patch is giving me a lot of error message... Any ideas?

There are many reasons why segmentation fault can occur with RMAN. Please open a SR with Oracle if the below solution does not fix your problem
    1. Ensure ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH (ORACLE_HOME/lib) are set.
    2. Backup your Oracle home s/w
    3. Relink rman
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
    make -f ins_rdbms.mk irman
    thanks

  • Limitation on number of roles in oracle menu or segmentation fault in menu

    Hi All,
Is there any limitation on the number of roles we can have in oracle menu? We are having around 300 roles created in our menu and after that if we try to add new role we are not able to compile the menu file. In the windows the form builder closes abruptly and in Linux it gives us segmentation fault error. Did anyone face the problem? Also if there is any solution then please provide the same.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!
    Ashish

I just wonder how many forms do you have that you needed to create 300 roles. We normally create a role for one set of users. It means you've 300 different set of users for your application !!.

You actually need to run it with "check -access"; memuse and leaks won't help with the crash, which happens because of illegal memory access. Hopefully, "check -access" will help you to locate the bad guy, but that's not panacea either.
    To be precise:
    - start dbx
    $ dbx <your app>
    - issue
    (dbx) check -access
    (dbx) run
and wait for dbx to stop and report suspicious memory access.

Hi anyone got any idea how to resolve the following error during execution of root.sh on second node of a RAC installation. I see there is a failure when clscfg -localadd is run - perhaps this is the start of the issue. I have no idea what this command is doing

ntpd was NOT running - I ignored this during the pre-reqs at the end of the runInstaller - perhaps this is the issue and i need to start fresh and make sure its running before running root.sh ?

Evidently one of the add-ons was preventing firefox from opening, not sure which one though. I hope this will help someone else. Firefox is working now.

I dont know witch pages I was looking at when midori chrashed.
I found this, but I'm not sure if I have the same problem. Are this three are all the same problem, and if so, is it something with flash?

Are you using KDE? Did you just did an upgrade of KDE?
I had a similar problem and it seems to be related to ~/.kde4 where it seems settings do not get updated. I even have a thread about the Pager Settings not updating.
Anyway ... if this is your case deleting ~/.kde4 and logging out and in again solved the problem for me, for both: Chromium and Firefox. Of course you loose your personal settings but it's faster to re-set your settings than it is to find what file is failing to update in ~/.kde4
    Hope this helps.

So I cannot update any softwares since it won't work at all. I even tried to run softwareupdate on command line and it gave me

  • Redhat 6.0 Webdb 2.2 Server 8.1.5 sqlplus core dump segmentation fault solution

If anyone else is struggling with this installation, heres a workaround that
    Got things going for me.
    Redhat 6.0
    Oracle 8.1.5
    Webdb 2.2
The database was up and working fine. Not as many problems as earlier versions but there was still much grief getting it to work. Save yourself some time, dont charge ahead like I did, read the installation notes.
The installation of Webdb didnt go so well though. Sqlplus would core dump with segmentation fault when a connection to the local instance was attempted. I tried many things, install webdb to 8.1.5 , apply glibc patch, apply 8.0.5 patches to webdb install none of this worked. The workaround I finally found was to use the 8.1.5 listener and the old formatting of a listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file. (i.e. like 7.3.x). Sqlplus would then connect via tcp. Installation still had another problem I could never get past the sys password confirmation. I could connect from the command line with sqlplus s /nolog @passwd.sql sys/mypass@mytnsname but the installer just wouldnt work. An edit of the installation_dir ->webdb-2.2/owa40/owa40.vrf file did the trick. Hard code a location to a dummy pass.sys file.
After many frustrating hours 160 or so - I think I finally have a working database and a working webdb web site. Hope this info might help others.

o Did you end up with 8.1.5 and WebDB2.2 in different Oracle_homes?
    Yes - product/8.1.5
    - product/8.0.5
o What do you mean that you used the 8.1.5 listener? My database is 8.1.5 so the tnslistener I'm using is from the 8.1.5 install - not the 8.0.5 version.
o Can you send a sample of the tnsnames.ora file that you used?
Sure - make sure you set TNS_ADMIN

  • SQL Server Driver for Linux causes Segmentation Fault

    Hello,
I'm using the SQL Server Driver 11.0.1790 on Linux with mod_perl and Apache. While running fine with all my CLI Perl apps I occasionally get Segmentation Faults when using it from within mod_perl applications. Sometimes every other connect to the database
segfaults. I've created a core dump and did a stack backtrace:
    Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/../lib64/libxml2.so.2
Core was generated by `/usr/sbin/httpd2 -X'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

Calling something at NULL obviously doesn't look right…
Can onebody help fixing this issue?
    Best regards,
    Stephan

    Hi Stephan,
This is a bug in the unixODBC Driver Manager 2.3.0.  Essentially, you can only have one HDBC per HENV.  The mod_perl must be creating the connections upon the same HENV.
The bug appears to be fixed in version 2.3.1 but we have not yet certified that out driver can work with 2.3.1.  See the 2.3.1 release notes at
http://www.unixodbc.org/ where the last item says:
"Driver version was not being held when a second connection was made to the driver"
The Driver Manager would "forget" that we are an ODBC V3 driver and try intereacting with us as an ODBC V2 driver for the second connection (which fails).
The workaround is to create a new HENV for each connection but I'm not sure if this is possible in mod_perl.

  • GNU compiled app crashes with signal 11: Segmentation Fault

    Hi Community,
I know this is not a GNU oriented forum, but maybe this is a common issue.
We have a C++ multi-threaded application running properly in Solaris 9 Sparc. Due to some issues mostly related to the NICs we needed to have the application running in Solaris 10 x86. The problem is that the compilation is ok (always with GNU) but during run time, we have the application crashing in different instructions because of a signal 11.
It always crashes in a malloc call within the libstdc++.so.6
It was compiled with the option -mt and -lthread. Is this a known problem? Do you recommend any direction to start seeking for a solution?
Pls, find attached the gdb outcomes after the crash.
    Thanks in advance, Pablo

A crash in malloc in multi-threaded code could be a bug in the system malloc or a failure to use a thread-safe malloc. The default Solaris malloc in /usr/lib/libc.so.* is thread-safe.
A crash in malloc can also be caused by a heap corruption. Probably the most common causes of heap corruption are
    - writing beyond the bounds of a buffer or variable (off by one, for example)
    - deleting the same object more than once
    - using an invalid pointer:
    --- uninitialized
--- pointing to a deleted object
--- pointing to an out-of-scope object
    - failure to guard a critical region
    - failing to declare shared objects as volatile
