Swap Playlists from one iPod to another

I had an iPod and just got a new one. I need to swap my playlists from my old iPod to my new one. Every time I try to click and drag or right click and copy, it won't allow me to drop the playlists into the new iPod.
I'm going from a 3G 30GB iPod to a new Color/Photo 60GB iPod.
Any helpful suggestions? I'd H8 to have to rebuild these playlists, they have thousands of songs in them!

did you manage to swap the playlists between each ipod in the end? if so, how?
ive just brought a colour ipod and i would like to transfer my playlist from my old black and white one to it.

It needs to go through iTunes.  But there is no way to transfer songs from iPod to iTunes library (except for music you purchased from iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to your iTunes library.  You can then sync your iPhone to the iTunes library.
Alternately, if you sign up for the iTunes Match service, your iTunes music library on your computer will become available from iCloud.  You can set your new iPhone (assuming you bought a "new" iPhone) to sync from iCloud, instead of from your computer's iTunes.  All of your music will be available wirelessly, wherever you have an Internet connection.

  • Move playlist from one iPod to another?

Is it possible to transfer a playlist from one iPod to another? I have an iPod on which I've developed some playlists for classes (I teach music) and I just got a new iPod, and I would like to transfer that playlist on the old iPod to the new iPod.
Let me be clear: I own all of the music on the playlist, and it is all still in my iTunes library; I just want to move the playlist I've developed over the last few years on my old iPod to my new one as a whole, rather than piece by piece and one file at a time.
    Is this possible?

No, unfortunately -- it's only on my old iPod. I just created playlists on the iPod and added things to that. There's about 80-100 things in each playlist.

how do i copy a playlist from my ipod 80gb to my new shuffle?

You do have the playlist in iTunes right? Do you manage music manually? If yes then you have to drag and drop (in iTunes) the playlist on to the shuffle when connected.
If you are syncing automatically, then all the playlists you selected for sync will transfer to the device.

  • How can I copy songs from one iPod to another?

I received a new iPod Classic (last generation) and I'm trying to transfer my songs from my old iPod Nano (also last generation).
My iTunes library is also split up between my two parent's houses and I only have half the songs on my Nano in this computer's library.
Is there a way to copy only the songs on the +iPod Nano+ (not the iTunes library) and drop them onto the new iPod?

You can't copy directly from one iPod to another, you have to copy the songs back to iTunes and update the new iPod from there. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • From one iPod to another

I have an iPod 3G and an iPod 4G. 3G has music on it, 4G doesnt. i dont have a sync playlist setup for my iPod, i manually moved it on there, all from the SAME library (so its not a mix). I want to know if theres anyway i can just have iTunes put the SAME music on the 4G as the 3G, like maybe make a playlist on the 3G and move to PC, then to the 4G.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
Edit: im not trying to move music from one iPod to another, just tell it what to copy from the iTunes library

    No.
You would have to select the same music and sync it top the new ipod.
This i the problem with manually managing music.
Had you set up a playlist instead, you could simply sync the same playlist to the new ipod.

Hello, I need help transferring music from one ipod to another? I got a new laptop and now my itunes library does not contain a lot of my music!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There is more than one way, but to get it all on all devices, connect the first device to iTunes and choose to transfer the music from the device from the file menu. Once everything is in iTunes connect the second device, select the device in the device list, navigate to the music tab and check the content you wish to sync, click apply/sync.

The geniusbar told me what to do, I understood but there is still a problem for me >:/ It's not showing up though. Like "device."  Nothing is happening, and I tried as soon as I got home. Then after half an hour, then an hour, then 3 hours. My problem is that it's not showing up! It's stuck in recovery mode! There's still like 25% battery. So I have no idea why.

how do i download music from one ipod to another ipod ?

It needs to go through your computer's iTunes library.  If all the songs on the iPods are already in your computer's iTunes library, just sync each iPod as desired from your iTunes library.
If the songs on your iPods are not in your iTunes library, the approach here is to first off-load the song files from the iPods to your computer's hard drive.  Then, add the song files to your iTunes library, so that it is "consolidated" with ALL of your music.
You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once you have ALL of your music in one iTunes library on your computer, sync your iPods as desired.

You cannot copy content directly from one iPod to another. If the music was purchased from the iTunes Store, you have the following options:
    - sync the iPod to your computer, transfer the content to iTunes, and then connect the other iPod and sync from iTunes
    - use iCloud (which requires iOS 5).
    - download the music from from the iTunes Store to the second iPod. See:
