Swap space is reported to be Zero but it is not !

Hello
I am trying to deinstall OSB, from some reason when running the setup -deinstall under the D:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_service_bus\oui\bin directory I am getting a message that my swap space is equal zero but I have like 70GB free on my hard drive
What is going on ? any advice ?
I am an administrator on the machine for sure
Eyal

Hi Eyal,
Any other ideas ?If possible, try after restarting the machine. I hope you have referred this doc -
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15017/deinstall.htm#sthref38
do you know if there is a way to install OSB without the windows installer ? just using the command line ? OSB can be installed in two modes -
1. Graphical Mode
2. Silent Mode
But both of them would require the setup file (setup.exe) to be there. For information about installation/deinstallation of OSB, you may refer OSB installation guide-

  • MC.9 report: stock is zero but valuation is showing

    Hi,
    i have found this very peculiar scenario. we were running the std SAP report MC.9.
    we run this report for a plant for a given period.
    there are some materials for which the stock is zero and the valuation is zero very normal behavior.
    for some materials the stock exists and the valuation is as per the material master accounting view 1.
    for some materials the stock is zero but the valuation exists. it is found negative.
    we checked the stocks they are correct and the sum is zero.
    we checked the valuation changes there are some with cost estimate runs.
    the sum of the goods issued are not matching with the report value.
    we are working on 4.7 version.
    i tried to search the forum but none is explainning the cause. please throw some light in this regard.

    please check the OSS notes 120592 and run the program RMCBNEUB  in bckground so that it will update the s032 table .Generally these tables will not get updated sometimes.Running of the program will improve the efficiency of the report.
    Or approach SAP for a solutions.
    sometimes the statistical tables related to MC.9 will not get updated properly.

  • Upgrade to Windows Server 2008 installation fails (reports Services to uninstall but they are not installed)

    I am upgrading a Windows Server 2003 to 2008.
    When I run the install it completes the Compability check and reports that Sharepoint Services and WSUS are installed. They are not installed and are not running Services either. I have attempted to remove Registry keys for these but this does not resolve
    my issue.
    Control Panel, Add/Remove does not report these as installed either.
    How do I get the 2008 install to continue and ignore these OR how do I "truly" get these "uninstalled" if there is nothing I can do to find out what is reporting that they are installed?

    SBS 2003 does contain these feature by default. Is this a small business server OS?  If so I'd try them over here.

    I refered the metalink document id: [ID 761960.1]
    Database Instance Using Swap Space When There is Plenty of Free RAM metalink note [ID 761960.1]
    and tried the disabling the sga_max_size and memory_max_target and memory target with all different combination but no use.
    We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
    Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
    so What is the solution for this?
    With Regards,
    Boo

  • OUI complains about zero swap space? [solved]

    I am upgrading my OAS 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.2.0.
    When I start the OUI that is part of patch 4960210, it reports the following:
    Checking swap space: 0 MB available, 1535 MB required. Failed <<<<
    I cannot continue the installation.
    I am installing on Windows XP Professional (this is my personal development instance). My laptop has 4 disks, C:, D:, E:, G:. OAS is installed on E: and this is where I unzipped the OUI. The C:, D:, and E: drives each have a system managed paging file that have pagefile.sys files of 2,088,308 KB in size.
    Free space is: C: = 2.84 GB, D: = 3.73 GB, E: = 22.1 GB.
    How can I overcome this check?

    I manually set 1600 MB swap spaces on my C: and E: drives and the OUI passed this check.
    Apparently, the pagefile.sys remains after a reboot but is not an indication of the amount of swap space allocated. maybe Windows does not allocate swap space until it is needed when the virtual memory is system managed.
    Anyway, set the swap space manually to the amount needed by OUI. I will set it back to system managed after the install.

  • Reporting Swap Space Usage

    I own a piece of software that reports three Solaris swap space statistics:
    Available
    Used
    Total
    It uses the swapctl API to gather the data. One user reports that this is insufficient because Solaris uses a combination of disk space (reported by swapctl) and RAM. I've spent some time researching this and think I've found that the RAM swap space statistics are available in the kstat vminfo block. Questions:
    1. Is there a Solaris API that will give me total swap space statistics (disk + RAM)?
    2. If not, am I correct that the kstat vminfo fields report just the RAM swap space statistics and that I just therefore be able to add the values from swapctl and kstat to get the total statistics I require?
    3. The vminfo block has the following swap-related properties:
         swap_resv;     /* reserved swap in pages     */
         swap_alloc; /* allocated swap in pages     */
         swap_avail; /* unreserved swap in pages */
         swap_free;     /* unallocated swap in pages */
    From what I read, I think that "reserved" + "allocated" would map to what we call "used." What is the distinction between "unreserved" and "unallocated"? If I add all four of these values together, do I get the total amount of swap space allocated in RAM?
    4. I see that these vminfo values are raw counts and that to determine the real number, you have to sample the data over an interval, subtract the values and divide by the interval to get an average. Is there any other API that gives you the values at that point in time?

    For your questioin # 1, try using the `top` command. You can cownload this
    package from www.sunfreeware.com. It has bot the Binary file and source file.

    Hi
    Out of memory they can result from different causes:
    - The application is consuming too many resources inappropriately
    - The application is opening and not enough threads are closing, leaving no space for the JVM
    - You lose the connection with database, causing the connection pool is saturated, which makes the memory of the container is depleted and reaches its peak.
    - The container does not have sufficient resources or is not tuned to meet the load generated. But would recommend to discard the above before using this option, because when using this option could work around the problem but could not really be attacking the cause.
    bye

  • JVM Crash OutOfMemory Chunk::new Out Of swap Space

    Hi !
    We are currently experiencing a problem on both JRE-1.5.0_15 and JRE-1.6.0_7. We have a JEE application running with EJB2 on JBoss 423 that we have migrated to EJB3 on JBoss5. The server is Windows 2003 SP2 server running in 32 bits mode (with /3GB option in boot.ini) is set up with 4GB memory and 4GB paging.
    Before migration, this app runs perfectly on JBoss 423 compiled on JDK5 with runtime JRE5 and JRE6 (not at the same time though) up to 50 simulatneous users on a single JBoss instance.
    After migration to EJB3, we are experiencing this error as of 5 simultaneous users :
    # java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 2292728 bytes for Chunk::new. Out of swap space?
    Current thread (0x54092800):  JavaThread "CompilerThread0" daemon [_thread_in_native, id=4092, stack(0x54280000,0x542d0000)]

    jvm_args: -Dprogram.name=pdm.bat -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+DisableExplicitGCWe don't have this problem if we force JVM options so that it only runs in interpreted mode (-Xint). We also have created a file with the list of methods we want to keep out of the JIT. With this option, the server runs longer but it eventualy crashes.
    So we reckon this is a JIT issue on the App Server. I have posted a thread on JBoss forum but they recommended me to open one here.
    So I have modified the JVM options to increase the Perm size :

    I have reported the error to http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp but I haven't heard from it as yet ...
    Any recommendation to fix this issue ? Many thanks in advance for your help !

    I recently experienced a similar issue on HP-UX 11iv2 with WebLogic 9.1 and HP JDK 1.5, and we were also using the CMS (Concurrent Mark Sweep) GC. I was able to resolve the issue by forcing the size of the Survivor Area using the -XX:SurvivorRatio=n parameter. By setting this to a value lower than the default (I think 25) it forces the Survivor Area to be a larger percentage of the New Generation, and hence larger in size. I found that I needed at least 8MB, but we have a pretty large application, so you might get by with significantly less.
    As it stands, your New Gen will be 25% (default, I think) of you Xms, and I think the default SurvivorRatio is 25. The tricky part is the calculation using the SurvivorRatio. Since there are two Survivor Areas, if -XX:SurvivorRatio=25, then each Survivor Area will be 1/27 of New Gen. Anyhow, it's confusing, but you can easily verify these numbers online, and do the math yourself, but hopefully you get the point.
    Obviously, I can't guarantee anything, but you might want to give it a try since my symptoms were extremely similar.

    However, the PSPermGen section is included under "Heap". I always thought the MaxPermsize is in addition to the heap size. Also the total of PSPermGen is significantly lower than specified in MaxPermSize while at the same time the usage is at 99%.
    At the moment I can not really pinpoint what situation exactly is causing the problem since the scenario is rather complex, pushing a lot of data into the system, a lot of clients in parallel running queries and requesting the data etc. But with this particular scenario we can reproduce this error within a couple of hours.
    Would it help to increase the virtual address space of windows to 3GB? Would the jvm actually take advantage of it?
    Here is the complete log

    Hi,
    Would it help to increase the virtual address space of windows to 3GB? Would the jvm actually take advantage of it?Forgot to mention this in my last post ...
    No, it wouldn't help. The JDK (VM + library native code) isn't linked with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE option so windows won't give it a 3G address space. The JDK code has been tested in this mode and works, but the change was not made because it could break existing JNI code which is not expecting to addresses larger than 2G. See

  • Solaris: Increase the swap space

    Hi all,
    I am the developer, not the DBA, but actually should make some DBA-job.
    On our solaris server I should increase the swap space, but I don't know how to make this...
    From time to time I get the following error message in system log files:

    Many thanks!

    Check what is using the memory and if that is necessary.
    1. can you safely shrink the SGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes.
    2. can you safely shrink the PGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes)
    3. can you reduce the number of processes ? (are there lots of idle processes ?)
    4. can you tune sql to use less memory ?
    If you can't reduce allocated memory, check if you can add RAM to the server / container.
    If you still think you need to increase swap, you may need to add another disk (what is /dev/md/dsk/d60 ?). You can easily google for the Solaris commands to add swap, but if you are not familiar with this process I would not recommend you do it by yourself. Ask Oracle Support to provide the commands, and TEST them on a DEV box, followed by reboots etc to confirm it works.

  • Running out of swap space on db on aix

    We are currently doing some volume testing against a database which is on one of our aix boxes
    Os is (AIX 5L) with 2Gig memory
    Essentially, we are just processing a large amount of data, but I have noticed that our swap files are being used up.
    (My understanding is this is because theres not enough room in memory for the pga )
    I'm a little wary of creating another swap file until I have backed up all the database instances on the server.
    I increased the processes from 1000 to 1500 which appeared to have had some effect.
    I also found these parameters in the server parameter file
    SCMS.__db_cache_size=285212672
    SCMS.__java_pool_size=4194304
    SCMS.__large_pool_size=4194304
    SCMS.__shared_pool_size=423624704

    With only 2GB Ram, you have not a lot to use for Oracle an AIX box. I do not know your curernt settings but here are some hints:
    1. Check the memory occupied by other applications on the box. I will assume this is 500MB. Leaving you with 1.5GB to play with Oracle
    2. Make your swap space at least 4GB
    3. Set SGA_TARGET to about 1GB
    4 Set SGA_MAX_SIZE to about 1GB
    5. Ensure the following parameters are set to 0 (zero)
    DB_CACHE_SIZE = 0
    JAVA_POOL_SIZE = 0
    LARGE_POOL_SIZE= 0
    SHARED_POOL_SIZE= 0
    6. Ensure that WORKAREA_SIZE_POLICY is set to AUTO
    7. Set PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET up to 500M

  • Excess Swap Space....

    Hi all,
    Please I would like to find out if large swap space has any effect on the performance of a Server.
    Thanks

    No. Generally not a good idea.
    Oh, details? Sure.
    To begin with you do <u>not</u> want any active paging going on; it kills performance quickly. It is normal to see some memory pages being evicted to paging store; the kernel does some proactive evictions of stale memory pages just in case the room is needed sometime in the future.

    Swap:  8392696k total,    14496k used,  8378200k free,  1290552k cachedThe swap utilization reported by top(1) is misleading because it shows a static picture of how much swap space is being used. The problem is that you can't distinguish between the stale-memory evictions and the unwanted paging activity. Better to use the vmstat(1) tool for this:
    $ vmstat 1 3

It is OK for this to show some minor values, but should the count increase rapidly for some time you should regard this as a sign of swap activity and fix it.
    Lots of installation documentation suggests that the size of paging store be at least equal to the physical memory size or even larger. On anything much larger than an old desktop this is simply too much space: the system will become unusably slow long before this amount of space is utilized.
    Ancient history: at one time some UNIX ports used the swap space to temporarily store a memory image of a system oops. Every boot, the kernel checked the swap space for a special signature pattern to see if the swap space held such an image.
    Back to the present: having an excessively-large paging store simply wastes disk space. Sometimes the extra paging store can be useful to have because it can postpone a Linux out-of-memory (OOM) kill by the kernel if you have a run-away program leaking memory, but most likely this simply trades an OOM kill for really poor performance. Your mileage may vary, as they say.
