Swapimage in DW8 template (?)

Hi
I've built a website using DW8 templates--no problem. I
decided to try the 'swapimage' behaviour. I added a dozen images,
sized ready to display in a table (uneditable region) updated all
the pages, uploaded all pages onto server and my website
disappears.
Go into my template code, delete the javascipt, update pages,
reload, website re-appears.
Decided to make the table a (editable region) to host the
swapimage behaviour, repeat the process, upload all web pages onto
server and my website disappears. Its almost like a layer is
covering the entire page, all the pages.
Again I go into the code view, delete the javascript, upload
all onto server and website re-appears. Okay I'll download the
Kaosweaver extension 'Dynamic images' and my problems will be
over--same thing--the javascript is causing havoc with my template.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.\
Bob

Help would not be possible without seeing your pages. Can you
post a link
to one that works and one that doesn't, please?

  • DW8 Template/Form problems

    Hi
I have a problem I need help with. I've attached the code
from my DW8 template. I insert this small 'html' form and it messes
up my template view. The form is for viewers to subscribe to our
newsletter. Please have a look and try and see where I need to make
    my corrections.
ps: when I upload the page/website everything is fine, its
just the view in DW design--it's almost like when I put the form in
the table, the entire table collapses.
please be explicit with directions--I'm not a professional
    web designer.
    HELP!

the nested tables aren't easy to sight read in a few minutes.
What i think is the problem-
One- should have <form> and </form> around the
    JumpMenu select list.
Two- the other form, it is across several table cells.
Instead of the opening form tag being in the first TD with a
    form field in
it, the form tag should open before the <table> tag
    that contains the form
    fields, and close after </table>
In short- the tags are nested wrong.
    <table>

    <td>
    <form></td>
    <td></form></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <form><table>
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    </table></form>

  • SWF's in DW8 templates for IE7

I remember finding the answer to this problem ages ago, but I
can't remember what it was and I desperately need to know.
I am trying to use a flash movie in a template in DW8, but
when the template is applied to the page and previewed in IE7 the
flash movie appears as a white box. If memory serves me right this
problem reared it's ugly head at the same time as the boxes
appeared around flash files and flash buttons had to be clicked
twice to make 'em work. I think Adobe/macromedia did something in
the fix which cured that problem but buggered the flash from
working in the templates. I could be wrong but I vaguely remember
having to turn off one of the new workarounds.
    Any help would much appreciated.

  • DW8 Template

I am a neophyte, self taught DW8 user. Have template for the
87 pages in my site. When I edit template and update my pages, all
of the pages lose their titles.
    Thanks!
    jeepartsrus

This is the symptom of an improperly made template.
    Try this -
    1. Create a new page, and use FILE | Save As... > make the
    name *.dwt and
save it in the Templates folder.
    2. Create a new page, and use FILE | Save As Template... and
    let DW decide
    where to save it.
Look at the code on the two pages. Can you see the
    difference? Always use
the latter method to create your template files. That's how
    all well-formed
    templates should look.

  • Dw8 template breaks in cs3

First of let me state that I don't like nested
templates......... I have been using DW8 to do the template work...
it validates the css and the html in the w3c validator, ( i
also have to make it accessible) , i also validated it in cs 3
which it validates... it looks fine on the web, and in DW8, but not
in cs3.... is there a reason the divs are breaking and going all
over the place? is there any bugginess I need to be aware of? (i
    didn't find anything yet)
The reason we use nested templates is there are 8 or more
people working on the web, there web exp. is
greatly varying and I have enough trouble trying to keep up
with them not overwriting work (even with a message pooping up
saying it is checked out..) The problem is most of them don't do
code and they really can't make changes because of the way the divs
are all over the place.... when i detach the template however
everything is perfect... as far as I know it doesn't lose any code
when detached..... If I need to be more specific plz let me
    know...

    Let's see the page.

  • DW8 templates won't display in Live View

I have several sites that I've developed around templates
distributed with Dreamweaver 8. When I access these with
Dreamweaver CS4, everything works well in code and design view, but
java script and images don't seem to display correctly in Live
View. Live View seems to work fine with newly created pages in DW
CS4, but my existing sites will not display. Anybody run into this?
DW CS4 on a iMac (2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running under
    10.5.5.

    > I had to do one other thing besides
    > setting up a testing server, and that was to set "Links
    relative to site root"
    > in the "Local info" panel of the site definition dialog.
That will change future links, and template paths updated
    later- but it
    won't change existing paths.
    http://e7x.com/dw/
relativity extension. works in current versions of dw AFAIK.
Note- if you set up a local testing server and use site root
    relative paths,
you will need to set up a "virtual host name" in your
    server's config file
and possibly the Hosts file of your OS so that you can use a
    url of
    http://mysite.local
    instead of
    http://localhost/mysite/
because site root relative won't work when the
site is in a subfolder, the way dw will write them.

  • Help! Template problem?

    Dear Adobe Friends!
Help! I'm having major difficulty updating a client site with Dreamweaver 8. I created the site OK initially some months ago - and any updates to editable regions worked just fine - but then I passed it all onto a PHP developer who added some shopping cart functionality for me. Now, when I re-download the DW template he has worked on along with the associated .php and .html files, my updates/edits cause all manner of ugly problems, including what looks like duplication of the HEAD content and spurious unclosed <a> tags. Both he and I are mystified by this.
The source code of the template and one of the associated files is below, along with a screenshot of the problem. Any brilliant insights you all might into why this is happening most gratefully received!
    Kind regards

So you give your main template .dwt file minus any php code to your php developer and they then insert some php code into that template file and give it back to you?
You then create an index.php page from the template and that's when the trouble starts? Is this correct?
What I see is a duplicated <head> section from line 11 through to line 128 in the index.php file. Who put that there? I don't see any 'include' php code in the template file asking for it to be placed there so the question is where did it come from? It does not belong there.
Go back to the php developer and ask them where it could have come from. One possibility is from an 'include' php file but as I say I don't see any php code in the original template file that would be associated with it. The other possibility is it was placed their manually.

  • Trouble with using MX Templates in DW8

I had a question that I just cannot seem to figure out. My
company recently bought Macromedia's Studio 8 Upgrade for the
Design department. We used to use Dreamweaver MX. We did not have
any problems with MX, with images showing in the Design window.
However, in DW8 the images do not show up. There are place
holders, but I need to see the images so I can actually design the
page. When I program the sites into DW8 and then open a page it
seems like the website management is not right. I found out that I
had to re-attach the CSS sytle sheet using DW8's CSS window, once I
did that the page looked a lot better but the images still do not
show up (in the design screen).
This problem only seems to occur in Dreamweaver 8. When
viewed in a browser it seems to be fine. Does anyone know a setting
that I may be getting messed up? I copied all of our websites
directly from MX, so that cannot be the issue.
    Thanks again!

Show me such a page, please.

  • Problem inserting FLV into template based page DW8

Error when inserting an FLV into a template based page.
The error is: "Making this change would require changing code
that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be
    discarded."
I thought perhaps something was wrong with my code so I
created a new page in DW8, with one word of text. Saved the new
page as a template with the one word of text made into an editable
region. Created a page based on that template and attempted to
insert a FLV file into the editable region (using Insert > Media
    > Flash Video). I still get the error message. I've attached the
    code for this page.
I also get the error message when I go through the tutorial
    Presenting
Video with the Flash Video Component in Dreamweaver 8. Using
the files provided in the tutorial.
Is the only workaround for this the one I found here?:
    http://med.stanford.edu/irt/web/references/flash_video_installation.html.
Steps are under heading "Workaround for Locked Code insert error"
    near bottom of page.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Adding Old templates to a DW8 re-install

Hey there, XP was behaving badly and I reinstalled it. Lo and
behold, my templates (there are many of them) are on their template
folder in their respective sites, but they are not associated with
their sites in the File > New and the successive dialog boxes.
So I make changes and the template is saved but the pages are not
    updated, a total mess.
Can anybody point me to documentation, or advice, as to how
to get my templates back to their site.
    Thanks,
    Mario.

    Never mind, I got it...

  • DW8 changes to &gt; in templated page (Outside HTML)

    SOLVED:
One of the Code Rewriting preferences is 'Encode <,>,
&, and " in attribute values using &' which appears to be
    the reason for this.
I am trying to update a template whose children have code
before the HTML tag (on some pages) and when I do it changes the
greater than symbol (in a query) to &gt; which causes it to
crash. This is fairly trivial to find/replace but I'm wondering if
there's a way I can tell it not to do that, and if not what else is
it changing (is there a list/kb article about this I can read?) So
far I've found no mention of this anywhere.
    Great thanks for any help...

Have you read my reply to your post on the DW forum?

    Hi Murray,

  • Template & flash bug DW8?

I have just updated a site that had a small flash movie in a
    non editable
    region in templated pages.
DW offered to update the code and it wrapped the flash movie
    in the
    'AC_FL_RunContent' script tags.
    AC_FL_RunContent(
    'codebase','
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.
    cab#version=7,0,19,0','name','logo','width','176','height','133','id','logo'
    ,'onmouseover','MM_controlShockwave(\'logo\',\'\',\'Play\')','src','../flash
    /log11','quality','high','pluginspage','
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflas
    hplayer','swliveconnect','true','movie','../flash/log11' );
    //end AC code
The flash movie link inside these tags is now *fixed* to the
    link which in
    the template ( ../flash/log11 )
Any child page spawned from the template retains this link
    wherever it is
saved to in the site and only plays the movie if the
    ../flash/log11 link
    happens to be correct.
Detach the template and the link reverts to what it should be
    and the movie
    plays.
Once I worked out what was happening it was not too difficult
    to find a
workaround but appreciate it if anyone could shed some light.
    thanks
    lawrie

    thank you

  • DW8 says there's no margin, but the image is still 10 or so pixels off

Okay, so I'm new to DW and am using DW8 (what's the newest
    version anyway?)
Here's the background and my problem:
I'm working with a graphics designer in redesigning the site
for our non-profit organization, and she has a gradient along the
left side of the page. At the top of the gradient, she has a logo
blends with the gradient. The navigation bar then runs along the
top of the page with drop-down menus designed in Fireworks. It's a
beautiful design, but I'm having trouble getting things to work
properly when I'm importing them into DW.
Once again, I'm new to DW as well as FW, but I'm a quick
learner (i think). I brought these aspects (the gradient, logo,
site name, and nav bar) together in FW. I want these to form the
template for all the pages of the site so I brought them into DW to
do so. However, I need to make sure the background (the gradient)
repeats without the logo repeating. So I exported it separately and
set it as the page background using page properties. I thought that
would be simple enough. However, I can't export just the logo as a
.jpg (which it needs to be in order to look right) without it being
having a white background and no longer blending with the gradient.
So now I thought to myself, that I'd export the whole FW
image (with the gradient, logo, and nav bar) to DW and simply place
it over the gradient background, inserting it as an image, so that
these things show up at the top of the page but the gradient
continues beneath the image. It's been an amazingly frustrating
process, and I know that last idea probably sounds ridiculous to
those more experienced than myself. However, I think it may
actually work. The only problem, and a big one, is that when I
insert the image for the whole FW document (or even for just the
logo itself), even when it says the page has no margins or padding,
it still seems to set this image in and down about 10 pixesls,
making it offset with the gradient background and leaving the edge
of the logo visible (which is supposed to look like it runs off the
page). How can I fix this?
And once it's working, how do I set these two areas, the side
gradient with logo and the top nav bar with site name, to be the
template for the rest of the site with the big open area I have
left on the rest of the page as the editable region? It seems to me
like once I get this set as the template, the rest of the pages
will come together fairly quickly and easily.
Is there another way to do this that would be easier? I'm
very much open to suggestions. I don't yet have the site up on a
testing server to show anyone online, but if you would like to
    email me
    [email protected], I'd
welcome the correspondence and help in getting this working. I'd
also be willing to send the .html files to someone by email if they
could be helpful. Sorry for the long post, but I've spent all day
working on this problem, and am absolutely desperate. Please help,
and thank you for your time.

You need to set 0 margin and padding on the body tag. Copy
    the following
into the head of your document just before the closing head
    tag (/head>)
Preferably it should go into an external stylesheet, but by
    the sounds of
things you are not using this as yet.
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    body {
    padding: 0;
    margin: 0;
background-color: White; /*change to suit whatever your
    background image is
    -->
    </style>

Once you have added the above to your page, you need to save
    the page as a
Template. You will be asked to create an editable region
    (which is the area
that will be changed on each child page created from this
    template).
The DW help files do offer some information on how to create
    Template
pages - that may be the first stop for you :-)
