Swaping between white-on-black and black-on-white

I really like using the white-on-black setting in Universal Access, however if I want to watch a video or see a picture normally I have to switch back to black-on-white. Is there a way where I could quickly switch back and forth between the two settings without having to reopen system preferences and select which setting I want? I've seen that you can create scripts or use terminal to switch system preference settings, but I don't have very much experience with either of these.
It would be great if someone could hep me out with this. Thanks.

I have a situation where the PowerBook display and the 17" external Studio Display are inversely correlated.
(eg. one is black on white and the other is white on black).   Using the Universal Access keyboard shortcut of control/option/command/8 just toggles them back n forth switching the settings between displays.
How do I change just ONE of the displays so that they both have the same settings???
I've tried all permeations of UA settings, disconnect external display, detect displays with display disconnected, re-boot again, and no avail.

  • 20" imac won't start up-flashes between blank grey screen and black screen

    20" imac
    2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Was running system 10.5.8 just fine. Worked great.
But then I wanted to give the imac to a relative. And so, I tried to boot from the original grey mac install dvd to wipe the hardrive and set the imac back to factory specs.
But it wouldn't boot off the dvd. All It would do at restart was to flash slowly back and forth between blank grey screen and black screen. So, I tried the Leopard update dvd. Same results. So I zapped the pram and tried again. Same results.
If I just pushed the start button tho.. the imac would start right up and run fine. However, I didn't want to give it to someone else with all our information on it.
I finally restarted it and held the "T" key to turn it into a giant firewire drive, hooked it up to our other 20" imac, and used the disk utility from the second imac to erase the drive of the first imac. Then I inserted the grey install dvd into the second imac and selected the drive of the first imac and ran the install process.
Now, the first imac won't start up at all. Just a continual grey screen for a bit, than a couple of buzz sounds in the machine and then the black screen... than back again.
It ran great before I erased the drive and re-installed OS 10.5
What's wrong? How do I get the machine to either boot off the install cd?

So, I've figured out a little more on the first machine. It's a 20" 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.5.8.
It ran great. But, I wanted to erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS system before giving it to a relative.
I found that although the optical drive would read and write to normal cds and dvds, the machine would NOT boot from the grey start-up disks I had on hand. ( I have two imacs, and I tried both sets of dvds without success.)
I zapped the PRAM, and used disk utilities via firewire connection from my other 20" imac to check the hardrive and make repairs. Disk Utilities couldn't find any problems. So, using disk utilities from the other imac, I erased the first imac's harddrive and then used the install dvds on the second imac to install the original OS to the hard drive of the first imac.
(looking on the hard drive of the first imac, I can see all the contents)
However, the first machine will not start up. It just switches from grey....to black..... then grey..... and then black again.... over and over
Why won't it boot from the newly installed OS on it's own hard drive?
And Why won't it boot from the original install dvds?
How can I get it to start up again?

  • Premiere Elements 13 Eyedropper for white balance, gray, and black NOT WORKING. Help!

I'm using Premiere Elements 13.1 on an iMac, and trying to adjust the white balance on a clip with ZERO success.  The main reason for this is that I cannot utilize the "eyedropper" selector; I know what should appear white, gray, and black, but cannot select those items.
In the Three-Way Color Corrector there are Eyedroppers to use to specify areas of known color range. I have tried without success to select ANY of the eyedroppers...
I have clicked on it - NOTHING
I have held the left mouse on it and attempted to drag it onto the frame - NOTHING
    I have right-clicked it - NOTHING
The eyedroppers are not greyed out and they do respond when clicked. I have hit Reset button galore. I have restarted the program.
I have held my mouth funny - NOTHING :-)
When my cursor is hovering over the tool, it changes to an eyedropper. If I click, nothing happens when the cursor is moved - the cursor changes right back into its regular arrow shape. The cursor does nothing to the image if an item is clicked....there is no change to anything on the monitor.
I am a longtime Photoshop user but new to Premiere Elements. This dropper seems to work nothing like the PS ones. In fact, it doesn't work at all...so far.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to simply select the eyedropper and take it onto the image and select the white (or gray or black)??? Before I go bananas (may be too late)? THANK YOU!

Still not working. I think the root cause of the problem is the mechanics of using the tool itself; I hope this screen shot shows up below ...
Here I have APPLIED EFFECTS open, and have selected Midtones (Greys) to be expanded so that the eyedropper and other details appear:
Now, just below where it has a box and "Impacted frame area in white" (which I know is a checkbox allowing the area effected to be seen), there is a little color box and an eyedropper.
What EXACTLY do I do to select (activate) the eyedropper and subsequently tell the program what I feel should be grey in the selected clip?
As mentioned before, I can click it and the cursor briefly changes to the same shape as the eyedropper. But as soon as I move the cursor a fraction, it changes back to an arrow (normal cursor) shape. Even then, going to the area I need to select in the image, and then clicking it, does exactly nothing to the appearance of the image shown -- even if the colors start way off. No correction at all. It is as if the tool does nothing. The color wheels below all this DO work however - it's just the eyedropper that doesn't do anything. This just cannot be Adobe's intention. I am convinced there must be some flaw in how I am selecting the tool itself. And the user guide - needless to say - is worthless in explaining the mechanics.
So very frustrating. This appears to be the only thing wrong with the program - nothing else seems amiss.
NOTE: To add insult to injury, this promised white/gray/black balance feature and the three-way-color corrector is the SOLE REASON I purchased the software. Funny.

  • White background, blue and black text only

Had the same problem several weeks ago and it went away when I re-set the proxy setting. Problem now resurfaced.
First bit - 'untrusted site' keeps popping up. Got one for Google . / Firefox help. Can now only use Chrome to get to Firefox help (thus I'm unable to provide the 'troubleshooting info')
Then I get to a site - e.g. Mozilla Support and the background is white and the only text is black or blue hyperlinks.
I have: - Reset / reloaded Firefox, deleted the 'cert8.db' file. The clock is fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Looks that you are blocking CSS files.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • My bootup screen apple logo is black and background is white

I asked my friends most of them are normal which is apple logo is white and background is black.

It is OK. There are two kinds of restart that iOS 7 does. The white background/black logo is a quick form of restart. Some of the accessability features require a restart of the device and it appears that restart is a quick version compared to completely powering off and rebooting (Black background/white logo).

  • White background transparency and black box outline removal ?

    Hello,
I need to know how to do two things with Illustrator CS (yes, the old version).
First, I need to turn all white areas to transparent. I have two imported images which have white square backgrounds behind their pictures / designs. I need to over-lap a design over another, but the white area / square behind the image is interferring with the other. How do I make all white to be transparent ?
Second, when I remove / hide areas of an image with a white box it has a black outline. How do I remove this black outline?
    Thanks,
    Karl

    1. Better take Photoshop or any other comparable raster programme.
    2. You're probably talking about a black stroke. Read about strokes in the help files.

  • Printing in Black And White

I'm using iPhoto '08 7.1.5 and trying to print a color photo that I made black and white and it only prints the blackest blacks and the whitest whites, but nothing in between, giving me a partially printed picture. Is there some kind of setting that will allow me to print the entire picture in black and white? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Check the various printer setting panes from the menu in the print window for one that has a grayscale checkbox or setting. . For my Canon the grayscale box is located in the Quality and Media section. For my Epson printer it's in the Print Settings section under the Color menu. Select it and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Setting White, Mid and Black Points in Camera Raw 7

I am using Camera Raw 7 and can not seem to locate where can you set the white, mid, and black points in Camera Raw with the eyedropper tool. It seems you have to create a new psd file in Photoshop to do this, which does not make much sense since it is a basic levels adjustment. I am batch editing a bunch of CR2 files, and I just need to select the black, mid and white points on a grayscale that I've shot in the images - is there a way to do this in Camera Raw 7? Thanks!!

ACR doesn’t work that way.  There is an eyedropper for the overall white-balance that you can set by clicking on a relatively bright, neutral area, but there aren’t black and white-point eyedroppers.  But, what is clipped black or white is determined by the output colorspace you have set at the bottom and you can get some idea of what will be clipped black and white by turning on the clipping indicators and watching for the areas you’d be eye-droppering on (the black and white patches in your grayscale) to start showing the clipping color overlay for black and white, but any further toning adjustments will move data in and out of what is darker than black and lighter than white so what is clipped for output will change as you fiddle with the various toning sliders.
The reason things are different:  In PS, when you set a black-point and white-point in Levels and click Ok, the data below and above those is thrown away and that is the starting point for the next adjustment.  In ACR, things are non-destructive and all the adjustments occur simultaneously, rather than sequentially as in PS, and no clipping occurs until you create the output file.  This means that the pixels that are darker than your black-point and lighter than your white-point are still there, and can be moved into the black-to-white range if you do further toning adjustments.  Having more headroom of the pixels that are outside the black-to-white range is good because you won’t get the posterization or banding that occurs when colors and levels are clipped after each adjustment in PS.
Can you describe what you intend your overall workflow to be on an image:  how much adjusting will occur in ACR and how much, if any, might happen in PS, after the image is opened into PS from ACR, or opened from a file saved from ACR?  There might be other ways to approach what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • T61 LCD display flickering with big patches of black and going to dark (very low light) afterwards

I have a T61 which has Intel graphic card. It is seven years old and at times has a noisy fan.
Very recently it started to have problem with its LCD, it starts with slight flickering of light intensity from corners of screen, here and there, eventually covering the whole screen, goes away and comes back, happens for few seconds, the pattern repeats for few times, then big (screen-wide) patches of back starts to cover the lower 1/4th, one-half, 3/4th of screen, flickering between the screen content and black screen, till they cover the whole screen after 30-60 seconds. At that moment, the screen is very dark but with a close look, it is still possible (but very hard) to read it. Connecting it to external monitor (through its VGA), it is working very well. Showing same screen on both LCD and external monitor at the same time, the picture on external is solid, but picture on LCD can have this issue. At the moment of writing this message, the problem seems to not happening!! but it was happening during the past whole week including few minutes ago. I searched online and here in the forum and read few posts, and found about these issues:
    - some T61's have Nvidia GPU and thermal effects over the time and stress on the package or solder balls can make loose connections (this is probably not my case since the interface to graphic card is by Intel)
    - problem with LCD itself (it is working fine just right now)
    - problem with graphic card (it is working very well over the VGA to external monitor)
    - problem with the ribbon from mother-board to LCD (tilted the screen in different angles when the black patches and flickering are happening and didn't change the chaos much in any direction of making it better or worse)
    - problem with bulb inside the screen (maybe the cause, but somehow decided for the last few minutes to working fine)
    - problem with inverter (don't know yet what this part it)
    - problem with some sort of mechanical part(s) being loose, gently tapped on sides and back of the screen while the phenomena was happening and again didn't have much effect on it in any direction.
I appreciate your time and good gesture of help, many of you would know more scientific/engineering ways of approaching the problem and how to root cause it. My sincere thanks beforehand.

    >  the screen is very dark but with a close look, it is still possible (but very hard) to read it.
That sounds like a defective CCFL backlight or inverter.
    >- problem with bulb inside the screen (maybe the cause, but somehow decided for the last few minutes to working fine)
A CCFL is essentially a high intensity fluorescent bulb. One failure mode is flickering.
    >- problem with inverter (don't know yet what this part it)
The inverter is a power supply that converts the low voltage DC used in the rest of the ThinkPad to high voltage to drive the CCFL. I would expect that to fail catastrophically rather than cause flickering.
    What to do?
CCFLs backlights are relatively inexpensive ($10 to $15 on eBay) but they can be difficult to replace because they're delicate. You may prefer to replace the entire LCD panel assembly or even the entire top cover assembly (which also includes the inverter card.)
The Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T61 provides detailed instructions for doing this sort of stuff if you'd like to see what's involved and decide what you feel comfortable doing.
