Swapping audio channels in one movie

Hi,
I ripped the music video of The Streets, "Fit But you Know It" from the DVD of The Football Factory using Handbrake, and it turns out that the stereo channels are reversed: left is right and vice versa.  This is a source problem, and not one created by the encode process.  What's the simplest way of swapping the audio channels for this movie only?
I'd rather not re-encode the rip in the process, in order to avoid quality degradation.  Handbrake GUI, unfortunately, doesn't offer any options for swapping the channels during encode.  I tried using QuickTime 7,  and was able to re-assign the channels in the Properties window, and then save the file as a self-contained movie.  Unfortunately, QuickTime X ignores the change in the new file, even though QuickTime 7 recognizes it.
Suggestions?  The resultant file should be natively compatible with QuickTime 7, QuickTime X and iTunes.
S.

I would leave it mono in the timeline and export to stereo.
It wont be real stereo but you will have the same audio on both channels.

  • Help using multiple audio channels for one video

    Hi,
I have a video file with 3 audio files (stereo (.wav), 5.1 surround (.AC3), and commentary (.wav).
I have placed these on the time line of the video track, but now I need to have buttons to target each of them from a menu. However, when is choose a buttons target, is doesn't give me the option of which audio channel to play (A1/A2/A3 etc).
Is this possible with just one track, or do I need 3 (each with a different audio file as A1)?
    Hope you can help! cheers.
    Tim

    There is a tutorial on setting this up here;

BTW I would very strongly suggest to compress your WAV files to stereo AC3 files. It will reduce your overall bandwidth, and you will have a disc that will less problems in playing.

  • Premier Pro C.C.2014 combining separate AVCHD audio channels into one?

I am having an issue when it comes to working with AVCHD audio in P.P.C.C. 2014. I have gone through and done the proper importing of the video multiple times through the media browser.
But every time I put a clip into the timeline, it will put my channel 1 and channel 2 audio on the same audio channel. It's as though it isn't even reading the separate audio channels.
I spent two hours on chat with Adobe tech support to no avail. He said that Adobe did support AVCHD files, but that I should try to record my audio on a separate external device. That obviously is not going to happen nor is it correct, as the camera has two XLR audio inputs, so there are two different audio channels.
Has anyone had to deal with this issue and if so, are there any resolutions?

i haven't played with any footage like this to be sure the best way to do this... however the default sequence is set for stereo, as in two channels (left/right). if you have more than that, say 3 or 4 channels then you may need to create a sequence using multichanel in order to have global controls thru the mixer panel, to disable channels 1/2 and use only 3/4.  it may be possible to highlight all your clips in the timeline, right click and choose the "audio channels" option to switch them to channel 3/4.  if its two recordings into two channels, i think the "audio channels" will be the way to go. "audio channels" option is available in the project bin as well, under modify.

  • I only get one audio channel when i make a rough cut.

    Hey everyone,
when I'm making a rough cut with my subclips in Adobe Prelude, he combines my two audio channels into one track. Even when i export my subclips to Premiere Pro I also get one audio track with two audio channels in it. What am I doing wrong?
I'm working on Mac and Prelude CC 2014 and Premiere Pro CC v8.1.
    Can somebody help me?

    Hi Sven,
You are doing nothing wrong here. If you will expand the audio track in both Prelude and Premiere, you can see that both the audio channels are in place. Its just the difference in the way the channels are being represented in Prelude timeline and rought cut.
Please let me know if you are loosing any of your audio channel.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh.

  • How to link video and audio channels of multiple clips

Importing iMovie08 sequence via XML ends up with unlinked video and audio channel (only one of the stereo channels; see other post).
It is possible to link each clips audio and video track individualy.
Is there a way to do it in batch mode for all the clips in de timeline??

Your use of language is confusing me I'm afraid. You opened the AIFF file and set an IN then opened a QuickTime movie and set and IN and then with them both selected in the Browser (and the Browser the active window) that you cannot select Modify->Merge Clips... ?
I wasn't wondering anything about your audio, but now I'm wondering "What does 'the audio is on the HD' mean?"
    2. The other issue is that the starting point is silent, so the only I know how to find the actual beginning is by counting frames back from the first sound. Is that what I have to do? Is would seem to me that there must be a "marker" that's not and "in" or "out" that will allow me to merge the tracks. No?
If you set an IN point in two clips you can merge them using the Merge Clips... command with the in points option. The IN points you choose can be anywhere and for anything. They can be where the clapper hits and sounds, they can be where a drum stick hits a cymbal, they can be where someone is clapping, they can be where a body falls from a building onto the sidewalk... Anything that helps you sync the sound with picture.

  • Recording 2 audio channels

Let me get straight to the point.
I'm still amateur in video editing but got a request to record a piano lessons. What I would like to do is record directly to my MB, however need 2 (two) separate audio channels. One for piano, and the other for teacher's voice. My question is how can I do this with FCE? I thought about getting a small audio mixer (4-8 Channels), would this make any difference, or even possible? Can I connect a Mixer to MB over FireWire or USB?
Thank you for any help or advice.

If your camera has an external mic input you could get a Y-cable and plug 2 mics into it - one for the piano, the other for the teacher. You don't necessarily need a mixer. When you are filming with the camera you will get your 2 separate channels (actually, one of them will be the Left, the other the Right channel in a stereo pair). You can change the gain (volume) for each channel in FCE after you capture the video and audio.
You could also use a mixer for this setup. You would connect the mixer's line out to the camera's mic in. But regardless of the number of channels the mixer supports, you will only end up with 2 channels in the video - that is, a single stereo pair.
ps. You really have to have the audio going into your camera so it will be sync'd with your video. Trying to sync separate audio and video feeds after the fact is a very difficult process.

  • Premiere 7 - stereo sound exports without one audio channel

    Hi there.
I have a strange problem with Adobe Premiere 7.0.
Every time I export a wideo it looses one audio channel - the right one. I have no idea why.
I have a stereo audio file in my Timeline and it plays in stereo during editing.
I choose stereo sound for export, try different codecs and formats but nothing helps. After rendering the movie lacks the right audio channel.
I've double-checked the source audio file in GoldWave - it does have the sound in both channels.
Then I've double-checked the audio from the rendered movie - no right channel.
What might be the source of this problem?
    Thank you for you help.
    Best regards,
    Szymon.

Thank you for your answer A.T.
The screens were from the GoldWave program (similar to Audacity). I've checked the original and rendered versions in Adobre Premiere. The rendered one does not have audio channel.

  • New FIOS install-only one audio channel

FIOS TV is great except that now I only have one audio channel (L) from my old(er) 5.1 Sony Home Theater.   FIOS was installed today replacing an a Direct TV setup which was at least able to play left, center and right (L,C,R).   I have no idea why I only have one speaker playing since the installer used the same plug ins that I had connected to my Direct TV.   Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What kind of cable(s) are you using for the connection to the home theater? Is the cable(s) coming from the Verizon cable box or from the TV?
If you are using two RCA audio cables (red and white), then one may be defective or not fully plugged in. Left is white and right is red, so check the one going to the red connector. You could try swapping the red and white cables. If your setup now has only right channel, the problem is with the "red" cable.
If you are using digital coax or fiber optic cable, then I would suspect the device connected to the home theater (either TV or STB/DVR).

  • Missing one audio channel from MXF video

    Greetings,
I have a bunch of footage shot with a Canon XF300 camera. Two wireless lav mics were feeding into the camera. On the day, I was monitoring audio and am 100% certain that it was recorded correctly. I found a couple of unerased CF cards from the shoot and was able to verify that the audio is good when I pop the CF card into the camera.
However, when I transfer the footage to hard disk and attempt to play it out using either Premier Pro CS5, or VLC, I'm losing channel one of the audio. I've been attempting to troubleshoot, and have found a couple of references on the Web regarding missing audio channel 1 from MXF video files -- but nothing that is relevant to this situation.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and am running Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3. No video cards.
I've tried bringing the files in using: Finder, XF Utility and ShotPutPro. I'm copying the complete directory structure in all cases.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any troubleshooting thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

It turns out that the MXF files are coming in with 2 mono audio tracks, and for some reason, in the clip viewer, one of the audio tracks doesn't play, but if you move the clip to the timeline, both audio channels can be heard. Ran into the same issue with Cineform encoded material coming in with two mono audio tracks. So I'm going to file a bug report.
Ah, OK... now I understand. No need to file a bug report; maybe a feature request, but a bug report isn't necessary. Here's why:
When you bring in clips with mono channels, by default, you only hear the first mono channel when playing back in the Source Monitor. If you toggle over to Audio Waveform view (click the Output button), you can select which of the channels (called "Tracks" which is a little silly, frankly) you want to monitor. Here's what this looks like:
This applies to any format that has mono channels. If you interpret the footage to stereo (you must do this before you use it in a sequence), you can listen to both channels at once. Of course, then you have to deal with the audio as stereo, which is not always what you want. That's why I do a lot of my editing with MXF material (primarily P2) that has multiple mic sources in a sequence, where I can monitor more than one source channel.
In any event, that's why this isn't really a bug; it might be a poor design decision, but it's otherwise working correctly. I'd definitely suggest making a feature request for a "Mixed" or "Plus" audio source option in the Source Monitor. I'm going to do the same.
Anyway, I hope that helps explain the issue. Good luck!

  • How do I select just one audio channel in Final Cut Pro X?

I know this has been asked and answered somewehre... and I'm pretty sure the answer is simple. But I don't have hour's to search the net.
And the FCPX "Help" feature just ****** me off....
I recorded voice on channel 2 and shotgun nat.sound on channel 1.
I only want the voice track (channel 2) to playback in stereo.
I have already edited the video so I don't want to re-import the raw video to seperate out just the channel 2 voice track.
How do I select just one audio channel in the timeline, then pan it so it plays back in both the L and R channel?
Also, some of the audio was recorded with a air conditioner running in the background.  Any suggestions on best audio filers to remove or lessen it?
    Thanks, Barry

I think you want to select the clip in the Timeline, choose the Inspector and then Audio, dual mono.
You can even do this by selecting multiple clips.
In the Event Browser as well.

  • Why does compressor settings of aac audio, stereo, create 2 channel mono from 2 discrete audio channel movies?

Why does compressor settings of aac audio, stereo, create 2 channel mono from 2 discrete audio channel movies?

well depending on how your audio is brought into your system you can select it as two streams of mono or a stereo pair. In reality, unless it's mixed in stereo, that's just two streams of mono locked together. Other streams brought in via other means, can have a lot more audio channels, e.g. 8, 16, 24.
In your case, with what you're doing, two separate channels works best, so you can control the levels of two very different audio sources. If, for instance, you were taking the feed from the mixing board during a concert, you might want their stereo out. Otherwise you might be dealing with the 1.2 zillion channels that they're mixing live.
I like separating the tracks coming in. I work with people who prefer to lock them together. Locking means the tracks move together during editing. Ok, fine, but I'm usually dealing with different audio sources, like you are: a camera mic (safety on location) and a close mic (shotgun, lav). Or I have a shotgun source and a lav. I want to determine the best source audio for the shot. Sometimes it's a lav, sometimes a different feed from somewhere else, sometimes the shotgun, and sometimes a mix of two sources. But if they're locked together and pre-set to come out evenly from both speakers there no way for me to make a determination. The other guys like to cut and figure out the audio later.
To each his or her own. . .

  • How to add Audio Formats and Video Formats in one movie?

Now that FCP X will not allow different settings how would I change the Audio Format and the Video Format to one movie in Compressor 4?
When I change the Audio to ACC I have a sound file and when I change the Video Format to HD 720 I get the movie but with the original sound.
    Any help is always appreciated.

Sorry for this one also.  Just finally searched the Inspector windoe in Compressor 4.  It is already there.

  • Can one cut and paste an audio clip within a movie to use in another place?

can one copy and paste an audio clip within a movie to use in another place?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

If you are wanting to use the audio from clip A into clip B then try......
First check that Advanced tools are enabled: iMovie>Preferences>General>Show Advanced Tools.
Drag clip A from the Event UPON clip B in the Project. When you release the mouse you will get a pop up menue.
Select Audio Only. Note the other options for another day!!!!
You will get a green bar as Karsten mentions above ( move it , shorten it etc, etc.)
Show Audio Waveform by selecting Blue Waveform Box ,bottom right of Project Window.
You can adjust audio level from clip A and clip B to your requirements. You can set either to zero volume if you require.
This may not be what you meant by "to use in another place "
    If you want just the audio to use outside of iMovie, try;
With the required clip/clips only in the project> Share> Export Using Quicktime and in Export Select "Sound To AIFF. Save to desktop in the first instance so you can easily find it.

  • Audio Channels. Only one channel is playing

For some reason only one channel is playing a signal on a couple of clips. The other clips are fine.
All I did to the clips in question was increase the DB levels.
How can I adjust it so that I get signals on both audio channels?

  • Select just one audio channel to edit??

I feel stupid for asking suck such a (seeminly) simple questions.
I recorded the voice track on channel 2 and the shotgun microphone of "natural sound" on channel 1.
I ONLY want to edit with channel 2 (the voice track).  How do I select and edit just one channel (turn off the other channel)?
Also, is there a way to see both waveforms of both audio channels (one turned on and the other turned off?)
    Thanks,  Barry

Another dumb question... If I select Dual Mono how do I select the appropriate channel I want to use?
Right now I DON'T see any tracks or channels, just the drop down.
I do remember that the top option has a drop down with Stero Left/Right and then a Pan control pops up.  Do I select that then pan it to the far left or right?  Or is this a different control?
    Thanks, Barry
