I am in North america. I have a Satellite A30 laptop model number PSA30C-00YS5
and i was wondering if i could swap the mother board for a UK origin computer. Model number PSA33E-87YX4-EN

Well, cant give you a proper answer because Im not 100% sure if the other mainboard has the same measures. I have found some informtions about this both units and it seems that there are a little bit different.

Usually you should always use the mainboard which is especially designed for your unit but if you want to have more detailed informations you should contact the ASP (service partner)

Hi Michael,
I changed the original CDRW in my A30-141 (a TEAC DW224E) for a Mat****a UJ825S with no problems at all. I just needed to swap the plastics from the old drive.
I don't think the UJ825 is still available now but the later versions should do just as well.
I have burned many a DVD on the Mat****a with no problems so I am very happy with it.
Try Googling for a suitable device, I found quite a range of prices when I searched for mine.

Question about CPU upgrade for Satellite A30-104?

Hello,
My Satellite A30-104 has recently come to the end of its warranty, and having had to open up the heatsink for cleaning and seeing that the CPU was accessible, I wonder if there is any (likely) scope for upgrading it.
The processor is a Celeron (Northwood) 2.6GHz. I'm not looking for more grunt, I'd prefer a lower-power chip, though the much larger L2 cache of a Pentium 4 is also desirable. I'd be very grateful if anyone could advise whether any upgrades are likely available, and if so which chips would be appropriate? If I can give any more useful spec information, please ask.

I appreciate that it's really a job for a technician, and I don't want to brick a perfectly good computer, but I think its EOL is not far off anyway so I'm prepared to be a little more invasive than before.
I know that I can get at the CPU, and I know the basic precautions for physically tampering with PC internals.
What I'm first of all concerned about is this: if I replace the CPU, and it doesn't function with the laptop, can this damage other parts of the system such that it'd no longer work by replacing the original?
The Celeron puts out a great deal of heat (all the time) but isn't it fair to assume that a P4-M will be less hot?

Can not find BIOS update for Satellite A30

Hi friends.
I'am not found Toshiba A30-203 a new BIOS update.
I want install the windows vista but this error sccren.
Error message:
"A computer has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is first time you2ve seen this Stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updates BIOS."

It seems the Satellite A30 series is a one of series which was delivered with the no Vista support BIOS.
I think it should be possible to install Vista after a the BIOS update.
But know you will ask for the new BIOS version. Am I right? ;)
Well, on the Toshiba BIOS page you should find different BIOS versions.
Its very important that you will check the more info option before you will start the BIOS update. There you should find information about the BIOS compatibility (not every version is compatible with every unit).
But as you know the Vista is not official on the market. As far as I can remember it should be possible to buy the OS in January 2007.
I think Toshiba will offer a new version of Vista BIOS in the next time. I hope so ;)

Need an old HP DV6324us or DV6000 Mother board for a Part.

I have a DV6000 HP that has a broken clip and connector that holds the key board cable to the mother board. I need to find an old mother board that I can use the clip and connector to resolder to my good board. The actual HP model number is a HP DV6324us. Thanks for any help.

Driver downloads for Satellite A30

I have a Satellite A30 using windows XP in device manager I have 4 question marks under other devices, they are
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatable)
Where are the drivers for these so that I can install them and remove the question marks, I have looked all over the Toshiba site but must be looking in wrong place or Toshiba site not very good?

I'm new to the forum so please be patient with me. I have a very similar problem with a Satellite A30-141. The laptop belongs to my nephew who tried to upgrade to windows XP and now has lost the following items: Multimedia Audio controller, PCI modem, SM bus controller and Video controller. These 4 devices are marked with yellow ? in the device manager. I have tried downloading the drivers from the toshiba website but I can not get windows to see them as drivers and If i install the applications nothing seems to happen.
My questions are 1. Which drivers do i need to cure these 4 issues? 2.How do I use the downloaded files? 3. Where can I get a copy of the installation disc's as my nephew has lost the originals? 4. Is there a simple solution to cure this problem as there seem to be a lot of posts about this issue? Any help much appreciated.

Fact is that you will need a drive with the right master /slave or c-sel settings.
Not compatible drives with wrong settings would be not recognized by BIOS.
You should also know that these settings cannot be changed like on the external drive by switching the jumpers.
Therefore I would really recommend asking the ASP in your country for compatible devices.

Since my 450 MHz video board died, I have parts I can use in other iMacs. I have one at work that the ethernet port was zapped.

Take a look back at your other topic. I suggested you try pressing the PMU reset button on the motherboard, before giving up...
Actually, I'll just copy/paste the info here:
One last thing to try before you take it apart.
Try resetting the PMU. It's like resetting the PRAM, but more extreme. Sometimes it works, if the problem is not the video board. I think it may not be the video board, because that problem usually starts with periodic shutdowns and the "snapping" sound before it gets to a point of not starting at all.
I found this web page with clear instructions. Pay attention to the part about not pressing it more than once.

Swapping circuit boards for an internal hard drive

My story may be a bit long and roundabout, so please try and bear with me as I explain.
My PowerMac G5 is 4.5 years old and over the past few months, the DVD and my secondary internal hard drive, both the originals that came with my computer, have been slowly dying. I finally replaced the DVD drive the other day and was little by little copying the data off my secondary internal drive before it completely failed. One thing that seemed to help the internal drive run more smooth was unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in. A worker at an Apple store's Genius Bar also suggested swapping each internal drive to the bay that the other was originally in, to see if that helped at all.
Anyways, in the end, the drive was giving me so much trouble and I had unplugged/plugged the power cable so many times that eventually the part of the circuit board that holds the pin connectors straight broke off, so now I had no way to get my data off the slowly failing drive. Another visit to the Genius Bar and I was told that the drive was as good as done, but not wanting to believe that the majority of my film projects were gone forever, I contacted a store across the street from my old NYU dorm called Digital Society. They told me that the circuit board on the drive needed to be replaced and that the new board had to be taken from an identical drive. I soon realized that the primary/system drive of my G5 was in fact identical. So, after running Time Machine, purchasing new primary and secondary internal drives, re-installing the OS and doing a Time Machine restore - which was flawless - I took my two drives back to Digital Society where they swapped the circuit boards rather quickly.
Now that I'm back home, I was easily able to recover all my data from my failing drive... only after having its circuit board replaced, the drive is showing no signs whatsoever of the read/write difficulties and failures that it had been showing prior to the circuit board swap, which leads me to a few questions
a) Was it really the drive that had a problem, or the circuit board itself? Is there anywhere I could buy just a circuit board without having to buy a new drive just to get a circuit board? The drives in question are 400 gig Hitachi Deskstar, model #HDS724040KLSA80. While I'm not entirely sure the once failing drive should be trusted again, my old system drive - which now has a busted circuit board on it - still works perfectly fine.
b) If I'm able to get a new circuit board, how easy is it to replace myself? The guy at Digital Society did it very quickly and for a price of $120. Are there any video tutorials?

Hard drives are not what they used to be, if your work is important I'd replace them every 3 years & have 2 backups in the meantime.
I doubt you can get the circuit boards separate without buying a while questionable drive.

I dont know from which country you are but you can find this AC-Adaptor on ebay. You can also buy this AC Adaptor at a Toshiba ASP.

Looking for compatible DVD/RW drive for Satellite A30

As the most people who have the A30-303 laptop model with Mat****a UJ-811 ODD the same with me I need to change this drive and I looking for compatible model with this one.
The only one I know is the connection type is atapi and we need the same dimension for the new drive to be compatible with the old one, and if someone knows something else about the compatibility of optical drives that would be very useful for me (and specific for this model)

I made a search in some computer shops in Athens, so first I found a NEC 7543A (55 euros) but I found some reading problems with the CDs so I change with LG T10N (65 euros) because until now I never had any problem with this firm, as about mat****a my opinion is after this failure device (UJ-811 I already changed during the warranty period ) it would be not good to take another mat****a.
So if someone with the same model looking for DVD/RW I thing the LG T10N is working fine in this model read write everything and very fast.

I just bought the home & business 2011 for macs & didn't realize it didn't have project on it.
It's not part of "Office" according to the link above, it's a standalone software.
I suggest you go with Windows 7 Home/Professional in a virtual machine program like VirtualBox (free, less options) or VMFusion or Parallels (paid, requires paid updates, easier to install, more options)
So your would be running OS X > Virtual machine software > Install Windows (its in a window on OS X) > Install MS Project into that, create a saved "snapshot" to restore with if you get malware.
BootCamp is really if you need full hardware performance, you have to reboot the machine each time you want to use Windows, which is a drag.
Another drag is if it gets malware, it can be complicated to fix. When a vm you just dump it and restore a snapshot in seconds.
