Swapping SIMs within AT&T -

I have two AT&T accounts, both with data plans. Sometimes I need to swap the SIM cards. The sim in the iphone will work on the other phone (RAZR), but the IPHONE will not take the SIM from the other AT&T phone. Does the iPhone get "married" to the specific sim it was activated with?
There is not error message or wrong sim sign. Just no network.
Thank you

Not entirely true. The iPhone uses the LATEST sim from AT&T. I had a Treo 650 before the iPhone and took it in to get a new SIM card (free of charge). The SIM card will work in an iPhone. However, the problem you're going to run into is the iPhone is going to request to activate the phone on that account. If it's a business account you're out of luck (without a hack).

Has anyone else had issues with phone network being unavailable on iPhone 4 since updating to iOS 5.0.1? My iPhone 4 is continually searching for a network and does not find AT&T, my provider. I swapped SIM cards with another iPhone 4 running ios 4 and established this is a device problem, not a SIM card problem.

Does the device get any signal?
Sounds like the device may have had a hardware failure.  If it is out of warranty, the only option is the Out of Warranty replacement.
AppleCare is only an option if it is still under the original warranty.

  • 2 iphones, same account. Swap sims?

I have an account with two iphones on it.
My son has a 1st generation iphone that he dropped and is now barely working. My son is elegible for an upgrade. I have an iphone 3GS that I bought at launch. If I buy a new iphone 3GS to replace my son's original iphone, would it be possible to swap sim cards so that I would keep the "new" iphone 3GS and my son would get my few month old iphone 3GS? This is something my son wants me to do. Also, how would I go about transferring all of my data (pictures, mp3s, contacts etc...)from my iphone to the new one? Thanks.

Dude, you probably have this solved by now, but hey..if in the future, simply take both phones, and two separate computers (Mac or PC) do a FULL backup on both phones to to each computer via iTunes...(don't back up both phones to one computer, backup one iphone to one computer, and back up the other on another computer)... power off both phones, swap SIM cards and power them both back on....switch the phones to the computer that has the backup you want, after identifying the iphone in the list, ( it will still show the original name) then right click on the phone in the list and select "restore from backup".... do that on both computers (phones) and they will now be switched !!
I have done this, so I know it works.... Good Luck !!

  • Swap Characters within a font.

    Hello,
I am trying to swap characters within a Font.
The font is Nashville Number Pro2 available here: http://www.robhainesstudio.com/numchart/index.htm
The reason I want to swap the characters is that Nashville Number Pro2
(There are two fonts, Nashville Number Pro2 and Nashville Number Pro2, (Nashville Number Pro2 is not an upgrade)
is... the Font consists of a series of fractions. The Numerator represents the chords while the denominator represents the bass note.
The Matrix of these fractions is laid out VERY logically for Qwerty types. But.. the fractions seem randomly assigned when type using Dvorak keyboard layout.
And no, I don't want to go back to Qwerty just to type in the occasion fraction between lyrics, other stuff etc.
So.. Can you recommend an online font editor, or download able font editor where I can swap font charter assignments.
I don't want to pay to much, and I don't want to use FontForge if at all possible due to the complicated instal and use.
    Thank you.

Besides FontForge, the common font editors are FontLab, RoboFont, Type, and Glyphs.
It might be easier just to use a character palette app like Ultra Character Map.   (I don't think Apple's Character Viewer will be useful for a non-standard font like what you describe).

You don't actually swap the SIM card. For some reason, AT&T doesn't like you to do it that way.
    Go to:
    www.att.com/ipadlanding
edit payment information link...then update the following two fields:
    IMEI:
    ICCID:
You get this info from the iPad (1 or 2) select 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'...
The IMEI and ICCID info is on that screen. No need to swap the SIM cards. This process outlined above transfers service instantly and does NOT change the plan type, billing, user info, or days remaining. Basically anytime an ATT customer wants to move a data plan the ATT iPad web page is all you need. No phone call!
It took me about 3 minutes and worked perfectly.

  • Hi, I have the iPhone 4S (not due for upgrade) but hubby has iphone 5s. Can we swap sims over to either phone? Many thanks pauline

Hi, I have iPhone 4S (not due upgrade) my hubby has IPhone 5s can we swap sims in each our phones? Many thanks

Not a simple matter of just swapping sims. First, go to your carrier's store & get new sims for each phone...you a nano for the 5S, your husband a sim for his phone. Then:
On each phone, turn off FaceTime, iMessage, Find My Phone & delete the iCloud account.
Back up each phone, then: Settings>General>Reset Erase All Content & Settings. Once complete, turn both phones off & swap sims. Turn each phone on & restore from the backups you made. Follow this by syncing iTunes content back to each phone. Call your carrier & make sure they have the correct IMEI's for each account/phone.
That's it, that's all you have to do.

  • Can I swap SIM cards

I've been using a 16GB iPhone 4 for months now. Tonight I bought a 32GB iPhone for my wife. I would like to have the 32GB and give my 16GB to my wife.
If I back my 16GB up and transfer all purchases, etc. Can I simply swap SIM cards, and then restore my data to the new 32GB phone?

If you're using the same iTunes account again you can use the same backup to restore your data and settings. You'll only have to put in the passwords for network and mail again, due to security reasons.
You 32GB will be recognized as a new phone and you can set it up different from the 16GB, if you want to. Backups will be separate from that point on as well.

  • Can I swap sim cards from an old iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4?

My current iPhone 4 is pretty beat up. My dad's, however, is in phenomenal condition. He actually just upgraded to the 4S and asked me to sell his 4 for him. What I want to do is sell mine and keep his. Is this just a matter of swapping sim cards?

Yes and no. Yes you can switch but the IEMI number is associated with the sim card and you will have some problems. I did this when I had to buy a new phone for my son. He had the 3GS and we just swapped the sim cards. Well his data wasn't working but a call to AT&T fixed the problem quickly after they changed the IEMI number in their system.

I have no idea what you mean by that. This is what you need:

Also, is your iPhone 3 carrier locked? If so, only a sim from the carrier your phone is locked to will work.

  • Can I swap sim cards between 2 phones on the same account?

I have an iPhone 5 AT&T still in contract and a second phone iPhone 4 out of contract.  I want to upgrade the 4 to a 5s and then swap the SIM cards between them.  I know Verizon lets you move the phone upgrades bewteen phones within the same account.  Does ATT?

I have an iPhone 4 ATT out of contract and upgraded to an iPhone 5s ATT. The iPhone 4 is still on iOS 6 and I'm leaving it there for testing purposes. I have been taking the SIM out of my 5s and putting it into my 4 (using adapter purchased on amazon). This has been working perfectly so far.
Note that both phones were purchased under the same contract. When I say the iPhone was "out of contract" I mean it had been more than two years so I was month to month at the time I upgraded to the 5s -- at which point I went to a 2 year contract again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Swapping sim cards between iPhone and a Sony

I have an iPhone 5c and my son has a Xperia M4 Aqua, they both have nano sim cards and are on thr same contract (monthly). Unfortunately, he doesnt like his Sony so I have offered us to swap phones. Can I just swap the cards over myself and he can start using the iPhone, or do I need to go to O2 shop for them to lock the sim to the specific phone? Many thanks. Mark

    Not true,
It goes from refundable to exchange only.
I was told in detail about this a few times as I refresh to newer handsets.
As the "speed up" fee is included as a end contract charge, under normal circumstances there is no issue, but as the charge terminates your old connection contract, there is no way to refund it and pin back on the remaining 7, 8,9 months etc, all they can play with is the new current 24 month plan.
Now they can edit it's tariff and the handset but can't refund it as there's no way to revert back.
So they should point out its an exchange only return policy giving you chance to change to a different phone or tariff within the 14 day period.
Get it back and point out your rights, before that 14 day expires!

  • Question about swapping SIM cards on a Z10

Hi, everyone, I am a non-Blackberry user who works in IT support.  One of my clients uses a Blackberry and has often asked me very complicated questions about how to do various unusual things with his device.  At the present time, he is considering switching to a Z10, which would be set up using ActiveSync.  He wants to know if he could swap the SIM card without having to go through the setup process again.   My client travels a lot, and wants to use a local SIM card on an upcoming trip to a very remote area.
I've not been able to find an answer to this anywhere.
This is his exact question: "I just got it from a friend (ATT version) and I am trying to see if I like it enough to switch to it as my primary phone.  Blackberry z10 asks you to sign in with your blackberry world ID when you first set up the phone.  Question: Would you have to do it again if you put a different simm into it?  With iPhone, it makes no difference so long as the device is unlocked—you can then exchange simm cards as often as you want.  Would it be the same with an unlocked blackberry z10 (I know it's not possible with the bold 9900 as System 7 ties your ID to the simm card).  In short, in blackberry z10, could you exchange the US simm for another country's simm without having to wipe the phone,  etc.  "
If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I'd be very grateful.,  Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    The key issues are thus:
Ensuring that the device is truly carrier unlocked
Ensuring that the specific device model is compatible with the radio frequencies/technologies that the desired carrier uses. There are 4 different Z10 models:
    http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/03/03/4-types-blackberry-z10-models-fits-better/?utm_campaign=4-types-of-...
If both of those are OK (separate research of the desired carriers would of course be necessary), then it is indeed a simple matter to change carriers. For example, I changed from ATT to TMO by simply changing the SIM...no need to WIPE or anything, and my same BBID came along just fine. You should, however, always obtain a properly-sized SIM card from the carrier -- there are plenty of reports of folks trying to use "cut" SIM cards and experiencing errors.
With BB10, it's actually simpler than with legacy BBs. Legacy BBs used the BIS service, which required receipt onto the device (from the carrier data network) of Service Books so as to activate the various services that the user subscribed to. When changing carriers, it often could be that a latent Service Book from the prior carrier causes issues when shifting to a different carrier...and that's where WIPING and such came into play, so as to cleanse the device so that the new carrier could deliver all of the proper Service Books to the device. With BB10, there is no BIS, and there are no Service Books...so all of that complication is eliminated.
    But, as always, YMMV.
    Good luck!

  • Swap Sim between iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4

I am going to purchase an iPhone 4, but must do so under my wife's line due to contract dates. I currently have a 3GS, she has a "standard" phone. She will inherit the 3GS and go with the iPhone data plan. How would this work in regards to the SIM's since the 4 has the mini SIM.

I was told by an Apple Store Genius they would only do the transfer of IMEI and phone #s at the AT&T store. Apple store will not do it.
The preorder receipt is quite clear:
+"If you are swapping this device for use with a different wireless number, you must bring both this device and device assigned to the other wireless number to an AT&T Retail store to facilitate this change."+

  • Unlocked iPhone 4s swapping SIMs - iOS 5 worked, iOS 6 doesn't

    Situation:
    - Factory unlocked iPhone 4s
    - I swap between Rogers and StraightTalk SIM chips as I cross the US/Canada border twice a week
    - I install the StraightTalk APN profile when plugging in the StraightTalk SIM
    - I remove the StraightTalk APN profile when plugging in the Rogers SIM
This worked perfectly in iOS 5.1.1
Under iOS 6, this doesn't. Either direction. (Multiple attempts to confirm I wasn't going mad.)
Only Resetting Network Settings is successful. (And doing so also resets iMessage settings, bahh!)
Several things I've tried, all with no avail:
    - Turning it off and on again/rebooting
    - Actually installing a Roger APN profile
    - Airplane mode on/off
    Not fatal, but annoying.

6.0.1 seemed to fix the iMessage problem (it no longer reverted to sending from my phone #.)
But this problem still exists in 6.0.1. Swapping the SIM in a Factory Unlocked iOS 6 phone requires resetting of Network Settings to work.
    iOS 5 worked fine.
    Sigh.
    Any one with any ideas?
