Swatch Libraries Stuck on Pantone DS

When attempting to add a a new color swatch, I am unable to access any of the libraries except Pantone DS. It makes no difference whether I select Process or Spot, when I try to select the Color Mode I see the drop-down list of available libraries but no matter which one I select it only shows Pantone DS colors. Yikes! Something seems to have been corrupted. How do I repair the color library selctor?
Thanks!

  • Swatch libraries

I'm on ID CS3 and I can't get any of the swatch libraries to open for me. From the swatch palette I go to load swatches, then in the presets folder, I find swatch libraries, but everything is grayed out in the folder. Can't access them. Also tried loading swatches from Illustrator CS3 and also thru Bridge, Color books. In every case, I can see the files, but don't have access to open them. What's wrong with this picture??

If I understand correctly, the "Load Swatches" option allows you to import swatches from a separate InDesign file. The Swatch Libraries are already available when you're editting or creating a new swatch. The Color Mode menu lets you choose from RGB, CYMK, Pantone, Focoltone, etc.

  • Swatch Library Panel - Accessing Pantone colours

    Hi
I'm using CS3 Illustrtaor and want to access the Pantone library but it doesn't appear in the list of Swatch Libraries.  I have access to the Pantone library in CS3 Photoshop, In Design etc. so how do I access it from Illustrator?
    Thanks

    kir01lin,
When you have established where it hides, you may Vindow>Swatch Libraries>Other Library and browse.

  • Swatch libraries suddenly unavailable

Having the strangest problem. When I want to edit or create a new swatch, two strange things are happening:
    1) in the pull down list of swatch libraries, the list repeats several times ... so it looks as if there are dozens and dozens of libraries, when in fact it's the same standard ones scrolling by over and over.
    2) no matter which one I select, Trumatch pops up. So I can select Trumatch colors to my heart's content (something I've never wanted to do), but cannot select a pantone, or even a CMYK breakdown.
I've gone into Indesign's application folder and tried temporarily removing the Trumatch library, and then all the swatch libraries. Doesn't fix it. Neither does deleting prefs. I've restarted Indesign several times, restarted the computer, run all kinds of system maintenance routines. Nada.
    Any thoughts?
If the answer is "re-install indesign," is there a simple way I can preserve some of my preferences, like my palette layouts?
    Thanks so much.

You don't need to reinstall, just replace the prefs, but you do need to do it correctly. See Replace Your Preferences
If you do want to backup your workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, find/change queries, and a lot of other things, you'll find them in your user profile/library.

  • Saving color groups as ASE swatch libraries

Is there a way to save an llustrator color group as an ASE swatch library? When I try to do this, the entire library, including all the default swatches are saved, whe  all I want are the particular swatches I've added to a new colour group. I want to be able to save swatch libraries for various clients, then be able to access them in InDesign and Photoshop as well. Or alternatively, is there a way to remove unwanted swatches from a swatch library once it's been saved? Thanks! (Using CS6 on a Mac running 10.8.4)

Ask in the AI forum. Generally it works as it should, but there may some smart way or script to optimize your workflow.

  • Swatch Libraries Basic Graphics won't stay on.

I have Illustrator CS5 and I want the Basic Graphics (Dots, Lines, Textures) menu under Patterns in Swatch Libraries to stay on the dock whenever I start Illustrator. I save a new workspace with the libraries attached to the dock on the right hand side but when I restart Illustrator the button is not there and I have to open it manually each time. Please help.

    Many thanks.  And many apologies...
I had already followed all those steps, and double checked them, so I thought that there must be some form of hardware conflict that needed to be resolved.  As a last resort, I hooked up the problem monitor to another computer.  Lo and behold, the monitor had coincidentally chosen that moment to go on the fritz.
    Thanks again.

I have no adobe workspaces(like as Essintials) and no swatch libraries.

You have permissions issues on teh respective folders most likely. Since you have not provided any system information, nobody can advise specifically. Check your user folder permissions and that stuff...

  • Custom Swatch Libraries color shift

I created a custom swatch library for my client in Illustrator. RGB values.
I loaded the library in a new document (RGB Color Mode) and filled an element with one of these loaded swatch colors.
When I double-clicked the color in the fill box, the RGB color values had shifted slightly. Why is this?
When I double-clicked the same color in the Swatch panel, the color values remained accurate.

It's a collection of logo versions. Some for web, some for print.
Sounds like I'd need the following Libraries (this is getting complicated and confusing--am I too far in the weeds on this or right where I should be?):
    1. Pantones for Print.
Create a document with a Print Profile, set the document color mode to CMYK.
Open the Pantone+ Solid Coated Library, and bring in the given colors.
*Here's the thing though. Illustrator CC's Pantone values for RGB and CMYK don't match the RGB and CMYK values in Pantone+ Color Bridge Book exactly.
So what do I do? Also create a CMYK Library of CMYK equivalents that do match the Pantone+ Color Bridge Book? Because when Illustrator does the conversion, it's way off.
    2. Pantones for Web.
Create a document with a Web Profile, set the document color mode to RGB.
Open the Pantone+ Solid Coated Library, and bring in the given colors.
Then also create an RGB Library of RGB equivalents that do match the Pantone+ Color Bridge Book?
This would total 4 Libraries. Pantones for Print. CMYK. Pantones for Web. RGB.

  • Check-In of Brush, Symbol, Swatch Libraries from AI not working as expected

I am developing a custom connector for Adobe Drive. A large number of our users are Adobe Illustrator users.  From within AI, the user can save a Brush, Symbol, or Swatch library as a file to one of our Adobe Drive shared folders.  When this happens, the user sees the standard Check-In dialog prompting for the version comment.  After entering the comment and pressing "OK", the file is saved locally to the Adobe Drive folder, but my connector's CheckInHandler.execute() method is never getting called.  In other words, the user expectation is that the Swatch, Symbol, etc. library file has been checked into our system, but it never is.  To actually check in the file I have to open the Adobe Drive folder in Windows Explorer and check-in the file from the right-click menu.  This problem behavior only exists for the Library files.  I can save/check-in new and updated versions of the main AI file into our Adobe Drive folders as expected (e.g., using the File -> Check In menu command).
    So my questions are:
    1) Is this behavior reproducible by others and/or is it a known issue?  It's been reproduced consistently in-house.
    2) What is the intended behavior for saving Brush/Symbol/Swatch library files to Adobe Drive folders from within Adobe Illustrator?  It seems like it should either not prompt for a Version Comment, forcing the user to check-in from Explorer/Finder, or (ideally) would prompt for a comment and complete the check-in process like it does for the main AI file.  To show the Version Comment dialog but not actually have the file get checked in is confusing to the user.
    3) Any suggestions for solving or working around the issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

As a follow-up, I tested this scenario with the SDK's sample FTP connector and saw the same behavior: upon saving the Library file to the Adobe Drive folder from within AI, I am prompted for a Version Comment but the file is never checked in to the repository (i.e., the FTP server).

  • How to open swatch libraries on startup?

I'd like my company color palette to be present when I create a new document.
I've tried saving the a color group as .ase but when I try and open my user defined swatch library, it's not clickable. That's a workaround for what I want anyway.
It seems like there used to be an option called "persistent" in older versions but how do I get my colors to automatically appear when I'm using CC?

Doesn't your user defined swatch show here?
If not you may have not saved in the defualt location,  use other library and navigate to where you saved the .ase.

  • Swatch libraries to Illustrator

I am, regretfully, in the process of converting some 3000+
croquie drawings from Freehand (where they were created) to
Illustrator. I have found work-arounds and methods to pull most
elements in - however I have 1500 or so color swatches that I would

method for converting Freehand BCF files into Illustrator readable

    It goes like this.
    1. Create empty FreeHand document
    2. Import BCF colors into swatches
    3. Save the document and export as Illustrator 5 file (AI)
    (Version 7 don't work)
    4. The ai files is ready to be used as Illustrator library
file. Swatches > Open Swatch Library > Other Library ory copy
    to Illustrator's Presets/Swatches folder

  • Persistent swatch libraries not persistent in CS5

I love the Middle Ages swatch library.
But everytime I open Illustrator CS5 the library is nowhere to be seen, even though I repeatedly tell it to be "persistent".
Funny thing is, when I go through the steps to make it persistent again, the option is already checked.
    Is this a bug?

Hi, thanks. They are in Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator Cs5 > Presets > en_
    US
Should I move them into the swatches folder? Could try that.

  • Pantone Swatch values vs. Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated Book values

I'm working with a set of Pantone colors.
Why don't the Pantone's CMYK/RGB values in Illustrator CC match the values given in the Pantone Plus Color Bridge Book?

    J,
I understood from the other threads that the RGB value set was predetermined by the company, and not to be replaced by something from whomever (even Pantone).
Apart from that, when you have the colour of a Pantone ink and need to substitute it by a CMYK and/or RGB value set, it will always be off in some way or another. And if you need to combine multiple substitute colours, they may very well be off in different ways with the conversions provided by Pantone, which means that they be more inferior to the Pantone inks than they need. Something similar may apply to cases with combinations of substituted Pantone ink colours and original CMYK/RGB colours.
So at least in some cases there may be a better choice of CMYK/RGB values than a conversion provided by Pantone.
In other words: who says that you agree, or should agree, with the (latest) conversion(s) provided by Pantone in each and every case?
It may be worth noting that Pantone themselves have changed their mind about the best conversions more than once.

  • Pantone color changes modes from Illustrator to InDesign

I have a logo designed in Illustrator that uses Pantone color 5275 C. When I place it in InDesign, the color is dull and dark. In my Color palette, it says the spot color is based on the LAB mode instead of CMYK. I've never seen that happen before in earlier InDesign versions. How do I get the color mode to match what it is in Illustrator?

In Illustrator you get the Pantone libraries via Window>Swatch Libraries>Color Books>Pantone + Solid Coated. When you have the library open a selected swatch will show in the Color panel :
InDesign is different. You get a Pantone color via Swatches>New Color Swatch>Pantone + Solid Coated>choose a desired color swatch

  • ADOBE CYMK equivalent to Pantone chip does not match Pantone's numbers

Pantone assigns equivalent CMYK numbers to each of their spot color chips. And writes the CMYK numbers by their PMS spot color chip.
AI conversion within AI's dialogue box, not even close, when Adobe assigns the CMYK to a PMS.
Test it, so you see how far off this is:
    PMS book has CMYK at C:0.0, M:6.0, Y:15.0, K:6.0
plenty more where that came from...
Yet Adobe offers their conversion function as a reliable tool? What is the fix for this?

Thanks John, here's what I'm getting on PMS 5777C:
CS6, Swatch Libraries > Color Books > Pantone & Solid Coated with conversion in that dialog box to CMYK: 0C, 31.76M,  100Y, 0K
CS6, Swatch Libraries > Color Books > Pantone & Color Bridge Coated with conversion in that dialog box to CMYK: 26C, 9M, 56Y, 20K
    Your PMS book: Solid C ( 10C, 0M, 49Y, 28K
My PMS book, not a big deal off to your PMS book: Solid C 8.5C, 0.0M, 47.0Y, 27.5K
