Swatch palette extends off screen

This afternoon, I opened a Pantone swatch palette, and when I clicked the resize handle, a glitch in my Apple mouse made the cursor jump down off the bottom of the screen, taking the bounding box for the palette with it. I can't scroll, or reach the resize handle, which is now below the confines of the screen. The box will not move higher than the Apple task bar, and there seems no way to fix the box back to its original size.
Restarting the program did not work, and restarting the computer did not solve the problem either. The box remains "hyperextended."
Does anyone have tips or advice on restoring the palette size to its original settings?

Reset the AI preferences hold the command Option Shift key down while launching  Illustrator or
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

    Have you tried the resize button in the window corner upper right.  There are 3 buttons one closes the window one minimizes it without closes it and the other one toggles between full screen and a smaller screen.  Click the last one and see what happens.

  • Smart playlist long list of criteria extends off screen - help!

    I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and use several smart playlists to group and organize them. When creating criteria for the smart playlist, sometimes the list extends off the bottom of the screen, and unlike the usual Mac interface, no scroll bar appears on the window. This isn't really a problem (I'm able to keep adding to the playlist using the + button near the top of the window) but makes going back and editing or removing items that can't be seen on screen impossible.
    Can anyone suggest a solution to "scroll up" on these long lists of smart playlist criteria that disappear off screen?
    I thought it might help make sense of my ramblings if I included a link to a screenshot showing what I'm asking about:

    I have found the only solution right now is to create sub-smart playlists and then group those in the main playlist.
    For example, say for music you have...
    Any of the following:
    Band is Devo
    Band is B-52s
    . [more rules]
    Band is ELO
    Band is Heart
    . [more rules]
    Band is Bad Religion
    Band is NoFX
    . [more rules]
    that you can take groups of them and put them into their own Smart Playlists like New Wave, Classic Rock, and Punk then your HUGE playlist you can remove those bands and put in to include the New Wave, Classic Rock, and Punk playlists, then add what ever extra rules you have.

  • Function palette off screen

    My function palette was moved on to a secondary monitor. I no longer have that monitor and cannot see the functions palette. I've gone in to the labview.ini file (in the Program Files/National Instruments/Labview 2011 directory)  but cannot find an entry that sets the function palette position. I did see in another post  that there was supposed to be such an entry for the tool palette, but can't find that either) How can I get the function palette back on screen?

    Off-hand I'm not sure, but in the interim you can just right-click on the BD and pin the resulting palette.  I think the old one will still be off screen, but at least you'll have something to work with.

  • Swatches palette

    I'm running Photoshop CS3 Extended in 32 bit Vista. Whenever I need a layer filled with 50% Gray I have been accustomed to select it from the default swatches palette (last box on the right side of the first row). However, I have just discovered - perhaps belatedly - that the RGB values that this selection produces are NOT R 128, G 128, B 128 but can vary between 131 and 147 depending on the color profile of the document that I am using at the moment.
    I can verify that it is not 50% Gray by then changing the blending mode of the new layer to Overlay which, at least in theory as I understand it, should produce no color change to the underlying layer. However, I do observe changes.
    I have also confirmed with others that this behaviour is the same for CS3 running in XP on a different make of computer.
    Am I missing something fundamental?

    It sounds like you were running a second display in extended desktop mode.
    If the adapter and/or cable for the second monitor is still attached, it can fool the Mac into believing the second monitor is still present. Detaching that cable/adaptr and then restarting should fix it.
    You can also try going to System Preferences > Monitors and change the setup from extended mode to mirror mode.

  • InDesign CC swatch palette issues when creating a new color or updating a current color...

    InDesign CC has crashed on me three times in a row and still won't fix it's problem...EVEN AFTER my computer and all the programs were shut down overnight! I was in the swatch palette to create a new swatch. I had a current one selected to base the new one off of. I went under "create new swatch," the palette came up, my mouse auto-scrolled when I clicked and it landed on "DIC color." Now, the DIC fields won't disappear even when I'm in CMYK or RGB. And when I try to change it to CMYK or RGB or the color values, it crashes InDesign. When I load it back up, the problem still exists. How do I reset it???

    THANK YOU! It worked exactly for what I needed it to fix. I have been out of the Graphic Design game for a couple years and forgot a lot of quick fixes. I really appreciate it!

  • Mail composition window expands off screen

    If I reply to an email or create a new email and start to type the email address, the composition window extends about 75% off screen. Does anybody have an idea of what is causing this? I do not believe I have changed my settings and have not installed any new software.

    I take it you're talking about the dropdown panel in Rules panel in Mail > Preferences, when you click Edit?
    You must have a rule with a whole lot of conditions and/or actions.
    What is your screen resolution?
    I just experimented a bit, and suspect it's a bug, not "bad design". I notice as I add lines, and the panel approaches the bottom of the screen, the scroll bars appear, so the panel quits growing, as it should, but only 2 lines after they should. It looks to me like the height of the tool bar isn't being considered properly.
    If that's what you're seeing, report it that way in the +Mail and Address book+ forum. If others see the same behavior, one of the top posters there may be able to report it, or you can call AppleCare and they can tell you how.
    I doubt this is a condition many folks would see, so it probably hasn't come up often, if ever.
    If I misunderstand what's happening, please clarify.

  • Desktop extends off Right side of PB Display

    No matter which display setting I use it extends off of the screen on the right side. I installed the new fix from apple and I now have multiple screen settings and the brightness control is back, but now everything extends off to the right side.

    Hi RED,
    Don't know where the setting is supposed to be/how it's supposed to work in Tiger, but do know (if this isn't a bug in Tiger) that you must have it set to extended desktop instead of mirroring, which is what you want. Suggest looking through Help up in your menu bar and/or posting in the Tiger folder if no one here is able to offer more info.

  • I keep losing my pantone swatch palettes

    Now I think I may have lost them for good. I am using Illustrator 10, but have had the same problem with my office copy of CS3. At first I thought the palettes were just out of sight beyond the screen somehow, as result of changing screen resolution, but not sure about that now.
    I click on windows/swatches/Pantone uncoated (or whatever), get a little window flash on the screen right in the middle, and then nothing. I move everything around, but still no swatches.
    I've reinstalled several times, but no luck. Also, strangely enough, after reinstalling, the one swatch palette I don't want (Pantone pastels) always shows up in same place.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    AP

  • Saving an off screen Swing JPanel to a BufferedImage

    First, thanks for reading this. I have read through almost the whole forum and tried countless deviations of examples given here, but to no success.
    The situation is that from an Java 1.3 Applet, I am creating the ability for a user to create a simple graphic using standard Swing JTextArea components. This gives him/her the ability to place text arbitrarily on an JPanel. This works fine. The problem comes when the user wants to preview the image with the parametes replaced in the JTextAreas.
    We are generating GIF files after the user puts in the data. The problem occurs when we create an off screen JPanel with new JTextAreas with the parameters replaced with the test data filled in. We seem unable to create a BufferedImage from the un-shown JPanel.
    I have tried putting the JPanel in a JFrame and showing it before I call paint/print, etc. The only thing that seems to happen is that the JPanel background color is rendered to the GIF file, but not the JTextAreas on the JPanel. I have sucessfully written directly to the Graphics of the JPanel using drawString and generated a GIF, but that does not accomplish our goal.
    Any help would be appreciated. A test routine is included to give you the code. TIA.
    Kurt
    void test() {
    int height = 400;
    int width = 400;
    JFrame jf = new JFrame();
    jf.setBounds(0, 0, width, height);
    JPanel p = new JPanel();
    p.setBackground(Color.blue);
    p.setSize(width,height);
    JTextArea ta = new JTextArea();
    ta.setBackground(Color.black);
    ta.setForeground(Color.red);
    ta.setText("This is the text to set");
    ta.setColumns(10);
    ta.setRows(3);
    ta.setEditable(true);
    ta.setEnabled(true);
    ta.setVisible(true);
    p.add(ta);
    p.validate();
    jf.getContentPane().add(p);
    jf.validate();
    saveToFile(p);
    // This was taken and slightly modified for the AnimagedGifEncoder
    void saveToFile(JComponent source) {
    int w = source.getWidth();
    int h = source.getHeight();
    int type = BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB;
    BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(w, h, type);
    Graphics2D g2 = image.createGraphics();
    source.paint(g2);
    g2.dispose();
    AnimatedGifEncoder gif = new AnimatedGifEncoder();
    gif.start("D:/tmp/gifs/mygif.gif");
    gif.setDelay(1000);
    gif.addFrame(image);
    gif.finish();

    Your approach "putting the JPanel in a JFrame and showing it before I call paint/print" was ok, but it must be done in another thread, this sample is doing a similar job.
    You will see that when the print dialog is shown, the frame is fully visible with the button,

  • Aliases in swatches palette

    in cs2, i could put an alias of a file on a server being used as a color palette into my swatches folder and have illustrator make that palette "perpetual" because the alias was in the illustrator app folder. this does not seem to work in cs3 - it gives me an error message about the file being the wrong format. anyone have any help on this?
    thanks!

    OK, here's an intersting test. Closing the browser did't fix the swatch palette issue---completely. When I opened an exisiting document and clicked on the swatch palette - bam - it came right up. Granted it only had the "fill none" and "registration" swatches present. So, I loaded Pantone Solid Coated and same old story except that the swatch palette opened and closed normally. Then I started adding swatches from pantone and Illustrators default libraries to the swatch palette. And with each swatch I added the slower the palette performed. It's wierd - kind of incremental. Delete the swatches back down to the defualt and it works fine.
    I then started clicking on palettes and noticed significant delay problems with these palettes: color, appearance, and color guide. All the other palettes respond upon click.
    Another observation - when I switch back to illustrator from the browser there is significant delay in the redraw of the screen in illustrator. It's like a three step redraw: I toggle over and the artwork preview is there, with Firefox window header hanging around, followed by a brief pause, then replaced with the illustrator window header, visable blink and any open palettes are refreshed.
    Then I try this... in illustrator I type the tab key to hide all palettes, toggle to Firefox then back to Illustrator and - bam - no delays!!
    Because I can't work full time with the palettes closed I notice another thing. Typing tab to bring everyhting up – slow. Typing tab to close – normal.

  • Swatches Palette Kills Productivity

    Having issues with the “swatches” palette. Everything comes to a crawl and the spinning beach ball is getting really annoying. When that window is closed/collapsed/or returns to “basic” window view the app runs clean – no holdups. But click on the “swatch” icon to bring it up and we’re back to the spinning beach ball. If the palette is open and you hide tools the app runs clean. Unhide the tools and the app crawls. Swatches palette only.

    Suddenly, the text color palette displays off the top of the page until I click it, creating an constant unnecessary extra step when selecting color. After searching extensively, I cannot locate any way to change this. Any suggestions?
    This bug is driving me nuts. Anyone else having the same problem? Have you solved it?
    Thanks!

    Sorry, Peter. I cannot. When I click to capture the screen, the palette disappears. Perhaps I can better describe it: when I wish to select a text color, I used to get a drop down palette. Now the palette is "dropping up," so it disappears off the top of my screen. I have to click into it to get it to drop down so I can see it. So, every time I want to pick a text color, I now have this extra step to deal with.
    It started suddenly, seemingly out-of-the-blue.

  • Dialog boxes appear off screen

    Hi!
    I'm using Illustrator CC on a MacBook Pro. I use an external monitor as a second screen and usually move the application frame to the external monitor and work there. I started having the follwing problem: when I try to save or open a file, the dialogue box appears slightly off screen, so that I can't for instance type in a new file name, because I can't get to that part of the dialogue box.
    I have tried switching between different screen modes, but it doesn't help. Also I can't manually move the dialog box - which also seems strange.
    My external monitor is a NEC MultiSync EA273WM.
    Any idea what could be the problem or how to solve it? It's slowly driving me mad...
    Thanks in advance!
