Swatch Panel is NOT persistent

In CS3 I used to have my Pantone Solid Coated swatch panel permanently open (by selecting persistent). I've noticed in CS4 that everytime I restart Illustrator, I have to reopen the panel.

Okay, I found this message in another thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1253939;jsessionid=EF8AC0D238A2FE2A41FCFB72E95BA42A.node0# 1253939
and tried the suggested procedure - and so far - FINGERS CROSSED!!! - it is working! You might want to give it a try  :-)

  • Pantone Swatches Panel Not Persistent

Sorry if it seems like this has been covered, but I've searched through the forums and can't find a solution.
Bog-standard install of CS 5.5 Design Standard suite on a Mac, OS 10.7.3, everything is up to date.
No networking, all apps insatlled locally, Swatches reside in /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.1/Presets/en_US/Swatches/Color Books.
I'm logged in to an admin account.
I've tried saving workspaces with the Pantone Solid Coated swatch open and marked "persistent" and nothing seems to work.

    Drag this file
    into
Swatches flyout Menu >> Open Swatch Library >> USER DEFINED >> (choose the swatch library you dropped there)
Make this library persistent, save workspace (incase your prefs get reset in future), quit, restart illustrator. Viola.
Too bad the illustrator beta doesn't have better people, or problems like this would have been fixed a long time ago.

  • Why does my new saved swatch not appear in the Swatches panel when I open a new document?? Thanks :)

I can create a new swatch and save it. It appears in the Swatches panel. But when I close (or save and close) the document, then open a new one/existing old one, my new swatch is no longer in the Swatches panel!?
I have tried finding the answer on forums/Adobe books etc but to no avail - it is driving me mad!!!
    Thanks

That's because a new file defaults to the "default template". You can save a file as a custom template, then open your template to use the custom swatches.
I'm not saying I like this. It's just the way it is.
Any file can be opened as a "swatch library", as well. If you've created files with custom swatches and want access to them, go to: Swatch panel flyout menu>Open Swatch Library>Other Library, then find the file containing the swatches. It will open as a "Library" and you can click swatches to add them to the current Swatch panel. You can also set the Library to be "Persistant" by going to "Library Panel flyout menu>Persistant". Then that Library will open anytime you open Illustrator.

  • My Illustrator does not allow me to change colors using swatches panel. Help pleas.

Few days ago I started having strange problems with my Illustrator CS5 application. I am using MacBook Pro with Intel Processor.  After major update on the Mac OS  few days ago  I noticed I can not change colors in my drawings using swatches panel. The function on my Illustrator CS5 stopped working.  When I select object and try to change its fill or stroke color using fill and stroke from the options bar above work space,  none of the swatches would work.  The are there how ever nothing hapends when I select them, the color remains the same. The same thing happens if I try to use the swatch panel, I select the object then I try to select new color from swatch but the fill or stroke does not change. I can only change color on my drawings using the color panel but that is not useful for me since I need to get precise colors using approved color swatches ether from pantone library or approved by client.
The other strange thing is my selection tool does not deselect when I click outside on or of the artboard, the object remains selected until I reselect another object or use the keyboard short cut to deselect it.
I have tried various options to resolve the issue from deleting and reseting preference to completely uninstalling and  reinstalling Illustrator CS5. I even installed back my old CS4 version because I had to complete a project  and the same issue is happens there as well. I also reset the application using Time Machine from few months ago when it was working correctly. What happens when I reset or reinstall the app, it works for  about 10 min correctly as it should and and then it reverts to the same problem. I am out of options and do not know what else I could  do to fix this. Right now I am working on my old Mac tower G5 and CS4 where everything works as it is suppose to, but I really need to get this fixed. Can any one help or has solution for my problem? Please.

  • Pantone swatch palette not persistent

    Hello all,
I'm posting this in the hopes that someone else searching for the problem might find my post to lead them to the solution.
I recently installed Illus CS4 on my new mac (yay!)
I'm slowly working through all the new features - and new glitches.
One of those glitches was that my Pantone palette kept disappearing every time I quit Illus. And Yes... I had checked the little button that said "persistent".
Finally after searching the forums and new help center (to no avail), I started experimenting on my own.
I wish I could give you specific steps, but to be honest, I was trying several things at once and I just happened to notice that it 'magically' re-appeared.
    1. quit illus if you have it open now. Leave your pantone swatch pallet the way you like it, and make sure the persistent is clicked.
    2. reopen illus with no documents open. (the palette won't open).
    3. open a NEW and DIFFERENT pantone swatch palette. Click persistent again.
    4. quit illus.
    5. reopen illus yet again. Close the 'other' pallete - Your original palette should be open now.
In a nutshell, I had to use one palette to force the other one to stay persistent. Perhaps someone can have better luck than me in describing the exact steps here.
For what it's worth, I got this to work on our second machine here as well.
I'm not sure if this matters or not, but...
The palette that I was having problems with was the Pantone Solid Coated.
I opened the Pantone Matte pallet (i think).
Hope this vague description helps someone else.

    Hi Wade,
I appreciate your response but with respect, none of those issues make any sense to me.
Yes, I agree, it may not be happening on your system. I wasn't saying this glitch is across the board. My co-worker in Idaho doesn't have the problem either.
But, I have two Mac Pro's here at the office with the same problem.
It can't be a corrupt pref's since I am using the same prefs when the problem happened, and when the problem was fixed.
It can't be a corrupt font. Otherwise my discovered fix would still not work. ie: I didn't uninstall any fonts nor did I mess with any fonts to fix the problem.
It can't be a plug-in. For the same reason. I did not mess with any plugins when I fixed the problem.
It can't be a haxie, same reason.
It can't be a third party software, same reason.
If you can explain why opening up a second pantone swatch palette fixed the problem then I'm all ears :)
    >>>
    Totally unrelated...
I signed on today and did a search to see if anyone responded to my post. I searched for the word "persistent"... my post here did not show up.
This is where I searched: http://www.adobe.com/support/illustrator/
Did I search in the wrong place?

  • Can  not get any color swatches into Gradient Swatch panel.

I've tried dragging, clicking dragging and only get the circle/line-thru-it.  And there is no New Gradient Swatch option anywhere that I can see.
Listen:  I've now spent over 4 hours online -- today alone! -- reading instructions that simply do not work. After 4 years of InDesign work and design changes made because I can't get two colors to simply gradient, its time for this function to work for me.

You have at least two possibilites to add gradients to your swatches:
    1. Select an Object with a gradient applied. (Take care to have the gradient part selcted in the stroke/fill part in the tool panel.) Got to the Swatch Panel and in the menu of the panel select "New Gradient Swatch…"
    or
    2. In the swatch panel menu got to "New gradient Swatch…", edit the color stoppers, add some ore remove some and click on the add or ok button.

I would like to create the a swatch, add it to the library and import to the swatch panel.  The help pages available relate to earlier versions of Muse, which does not work with the 2014.2 release version that I have.  I have created a library folder, imported the colour swatch as just 4 colours as a mulib file.  I drag the four colours on to the muse page in design view but that is as far as I get.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

I don't know since I don't share anything. You'll have to peruse the help files and check the permissions and ACLs on the Shared folder. According to the permissions on the Shared folder everyone can R&W. If you want those to be inherited by everything dropped into the folder, add an ACL for
    everyone allow read, write
Details in the manpage for chmod. The actual steps are left as an exercise.

  • Custom Swatch Panel Closes on Launch CS5.1

I've been experiencing a frustrating, bizarre situation recently. I have a Persistent custom swatch library load for an instant upon startup, then within a second it closes itself. I have to open the Swatches panel manually, then my custom library loads again *but* also opens the Links panel. I have ensured that my custom library is saved in the correct location (/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1/Presets/en_us/Swatches), and confirmed that 'Persistent' is checked in that custom library. I even tried saving my workspace as a different name.
This is an annoyance more than anything else. I've tried deleting my preferences but I'm still getting no love.
Any ideas? Thank you for reading, and in advance for any assistance.

We don't have any way to extend the trial.  It is possible you may have other software installed which has interferred with the trial process.  Which operating system are you using btw?  Did you receive any error messages during the install process?

  • Cannot select stroke control or swatch panel

I created a line (stroke). I am following along with the Pluralist Brochrue creation video tutorial. I cannot click on the stroke weight options in the toolbar, I cannot select or make changes to the swatch panel options, even though the line is selected. Any ideas?

That's the sort of thing, if it happens in many files, that would indicate corrupt preferences. For that see Replace Your Preferences
If it's only this file, check to see if the object is locked (not likely if you are able to select it) and also see Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Illustrator collapses swatch panel?

    Hi guys,
I have an issue with Illustrator CS6, running on 10.6.8...
I'll have an object selected, and I'll be using my Swatches panel to edit the colour of the object's fill, let's say. Then I will want to edit the colour of the stroke – as soon as I hit the stroke square in my toolbox, the Swatches panel disappears and the Color panel jumps out instead. I have to close the Color panel, and then reopen the Swatches every single time.
    Workspace: "Essentials"
I don't have the Auto Collapse Iconic Panels on...
    Thanks!

Focus always switches back to colors. You owudl have to not use auto collapse, or minimize as example below.
(moved swatches and colors over to the left to snap as a 2nd column)

  • Chance swatch panel to match illustrators

Is there a way to chance the Swatches Panel in Photoshop so it looks and works like Illustrators?

As far as I can tell: No.
And due to the differences between vector and pixel oriented graphics/image editing it may not be sensible in several regards anyway.
But what exactly are you after?

  • CS3 swatch panel corrupted

So, my swatch panel is totally garbled.
Any new swatches come in as black. The Pantone selector appears in front of any sliders. It's basically impossible to modify or create swatches.
Have tried all the usual things I know how to do on a mac, permissions, reinstall, trashing preferences etc, to no avail.
Bit of a nightmare to be honest. Oh how I hate macs. Any ideas?

Not impolite atall, my fault for not reading your link properly and assuming that my quick prefs trash would do the job.
I'll definitely pass this on as a troubleshooting option to my colleagues, don't think any of them know about it either!
Thanks again, I was starting to get quite frustrated and very happy to find out it was so easy to fix.

  • Color swatch panel

  • Swatch panel colouring stroke

I cannot figure out why when I click on an object and attempt to change the fill colour in the swatch panel Illustrator colours the stroke and not the fill.

Because the stroke is in the foreground? What happens if you tap the x key then try a color?

  • Swatch panel empty

Recently all the swatches have disappeared from the swatch panel in InDesign CS3. We've been running it for months and all has been OK and then all of a sudden the panel is blank, added new swatches don't appear either.
Have tried dragging the preferences folder out of the library so that InDesign recreates it on startup, but to no avail. Any help much appreciated.

Resurrecting this post from the dead! I am having the same issue here, my swatch panel doesn't work at all. Nothing inside, nothing at the bottom of the panel. I tried all of the steps given above -- first cleared the plist =no change. Then I tried the key combination while restarting, nothing. Then I moved the folder and pressed the key combo while restarting, STILL no change. I could not get a dialogue box confirming deleting preferences to come up. ....? Any other suggestions? I need my swatches! Thanks!
